Summer Season
We count six seasons in India. Summer is one of them. It is the hot season. It rules over May and June.

The earth moves round the sun. The part of it, which comes nearer the sun, gets the summer season. Because here the sun"s rays are straight and direct.

In summer, everything is neat and clean. The earth is dry. Hence, there is no mud or marsh. Ways and paths are open to very place. Mangoes ripe in summer. We get plenty of mangoes. we get jack-fruits and pineapples. The shady groves of mango and palm trees are cool and beautiful. The cuckoo has not yet ceased to sing her music. The grass-hoppers make their merry dance on the cool blades of grass.

In Summer, the days are long. Hence we get more times to work. Even in summer comes last. So, the school-children got more times to play. The Summer flowers bloom in the evening. All the night they speared their sweet smell. The summer sky is clear and blue. Hence, the moon beams bright. Summer causes the rainy seasons. Because it evaporated water and stores the vapors in the atmosphere. These vapors turn into clouds and fall as rain.

At mid-day in summer, people suffer from a terrible heat. The weak and the old man die of sun-strokes. People feel tired and thirsty. There bodies perspire. Sweat comes out and flows down their bodies. They feel restless. Summer-boils trouble the children. Water tanks and wells go dry; so also river and canals. People do not get water to drink. Dogs pant with their tongues flowing. Trees go bald and creepers fade away. grasses dry off. So, cows do not get the pasture. All suffer from scarcity of water. Mid-day is very hot. The dumb cattle lie in groves. The silent birds hide in their nests. They weary travelers are parched by the scorching rays of the sun. They rest under the wayside trees.

Summer is the first in order of the seasons. It gives rise to four months of rain. Hence, we cannot blame it. Let us pay our due homage to summer.

My name is Misha. I’m 14 years old. My favourite season is summer. My holidays began and it’s not necessary to wake up early and go to school. We were taught how to condition us to the cold. We had a shower bath every morning. When my father saw me he said that I’d grown up. In July I spent time with my grandmother and grandfather in their village.

My grandfather went fishing and to the forest to gather mushrooms and berries with me. He taught me how to recognize edible mushrooms and orientate in the forest. I helped my grandmother with housekeeping every day. In the evenings I read books or went for a walk with my friends. In August my parents took a month’s holiday and we went to have a rest to the South together. Every day we sunbathed and swam in the sea. The weather was wonderful. We went to watch waterfalls and we were at lake in mountains. I spent my summer well and I was full of impressions.

My summer holidays — “Мои летние каникулы”

I strongly believe that summer is the greatest season of the year. It is very warm, nature is beautiful around, and we have an excellent opportunity to relax. Summer is time of holidays and vacations. We can go anywhere we want to. It’s wonderful to spend time near lake, splashing in warm water or to rest in the shade of trees. You can go to the mountains, ride a bicycle or play all sorts of games.

I want to share my impressions of the most memorable moment in the last summer holidays. In July, my family and I went to the forest for barbecue. We made campfire, prepared meat, and put up a tent. While my parents were making dinner, I went to the forest to work up an appetite.

The day was magnificent! There was an aroma of flowers, honey and strawberries in the air. All around was green, only the trunks of the trees stood out with bright spots on a dark green background. The birds were chirping, the woodpecker was banging.

Suddenly, I heard strange noise… It seemed to me that someone hissed next to me. I turned around and saw … a curling snake! It immediately took my breath away. I didn’t even remember how it looked like, because I was very frightened. I began to retreat slowly, and then rushed to our camp. I decided not to talk about everything that happened to my Mom. I did not want to worry her. Later, we had lunch and plenty of fun. In the evening we packed up our bags and drove home.

Yes… Time flies very quickly. It is a pity that it is impossible to repeat those moments and sensations that I experienced during the holidays. But I believe that next summer will also be unforgettable!

I think summer is the best season of all because it is warm, the nature is beautiful and we have great opportunities for rest. Summer is a time of holidays. We can go anywhere, spend our time near a river or a lake on fresh, green grass, swim in warm water, or climb mountains, play different games, ride a bicycle and so on.

I spend my summer holidays at my granny’s. There are many things there to do. What I did most of the time — I swam in the sea and sunbathed. Sometimes I made a fire with my friends at the seaside and cooked potatoes there. It was wonderful. We told anecdotes to each other, and did everything we wanted. I also got used to walk alone in the forest.

When August was coming to its end, I went on a small voyage by ship. The ship name was “Sevastopol”.

But this summer wasn’t for me only sugar and honey. I have passed through the graduating exams after school and entering exams in the university. So the bigger part of my summer vacations I spent sitting with the books. Of course, it was not interesting, but I’m glad that I did it because now I’m a student of the best university in our country.

How I spent the summer

In summer I usually visit my grandma, who lives in a village, go to the mountains with my uncle, or spend a week or two by the sea with my parents. But this summer was really different, as at the end of July my parents, my uncle and I went to the Republic of Karelia.

First we arrived in Petrozavodsk where we spent two days. We walked around the city, visited parks, museums and churches, took photos and bought souvenirs for our friends and relatives. Then we went to Kizhi – an island in the center of the Lake Onega. There we saw old wooden churches which were really amazing.

But we spent most of the time in Karelian woods. We collected mushrooms and my uncle caught some fish in the lake.

The water in lakes was too cold to swim in it, but my father and I went sailing several times. We walked through pine woods and swamps where we collected a lot of different berries: cranberries, cowberries, blueberries, bilberries and cloudberries.

On the way home we also visited Valaam monastery on Ladoga Lake. It was founded about a thousand years ago. We watched a service in the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour and saw the famous miracle-working Valaam Icon of the Mother of God.

I liked my summer holidays very much. The nature of Karelia is wonderful: pure lakes, waterfalls, rocks covered with pine wood. I tasted different northern berries, and I saw an elk for the first time in my life. We all really enjoyed our trip and decided to go to Lake Baikal next summer.

Мне очень понравились мои летние каникулы. В Карелии чудесная природа: чистые озера, водопады, скалы, покрытые сосновым лесом. Я попробовал разные северные ягоды, и в первый раз в моей жизни увидел лося. Всем нам понравилась поездка, и мы решили, что следующим летом поедем на озеро Байкал.

How I spent summer holidays

Summer is my favorite season. Summer holidays give the longest rest from studying of the year that"s why I like them so much.

In June I stayed at home and my parents were at work. But I was glad because at last I had time for myself. I read books, listened to music, watched films and visited my friend. I spend most days outdoors and got a nice sun tan.

Then I spent two weeks in the summer camp on the seaside. It was a real fun. I met a lot of new friends. Every day we enjoyed something special — games, carnivals, competitions, performances. We went to the seaside twice a day. There we swam, bathed in the sun, played volleyball on the beach, made sculptures of sand. We had discos every night, but not too long. I guess, those were the most exciting weeks of the summer. It gave me bright impressions, lots of funny photos and some new friends.

Then my parents were on vacation and so they took me to my parent"s place in the village. It"s a very picturesque place with a forest and a river nearby. I was happy to see my grandmother and grandfather. I spent hot days on the riverbank. Once we went hiking with my parents, made fire, gathered some berries. The summer forest is very beautiful. In the evening I usually helped in the garden.

Last month of the summer I was at home again, having rest from such an intensive rest! I did usual things and prepared for school. I like my summer holidays!
