Sarah Kerrigan and Jim Raynor love. A Hero's Tale: Sarah Kerrigan (Starcraft series)

The StarCraft 2 space opera continues. In the second part of the trilogy, the Zerg race comes to the fore. The main character of Heart of the Swarm is Sarah Kerrigan, one of the key characters in the universe. Not everyone is well acquainted with this lady, since the first one was a long time ago, little time was devoted to her, so it’s time to catch up.

This material contains facts about Kerrigan’s biography not only from games, but also from other works based on StarCraft, since Blizzard is meticulous about its universes and competently develops them in all directions.

Sarah Louise Kerrigan began her life's journey in 2473 on the planet TarCossia, which was under the control of the Terran Confederacy. Almost immediately after birth, she exhibited extraordinary psionic abilities. When Sarah was just a child, she accidentally killed her mother (essentially blowing up her brain) and inflicted severe mental trauma on her father.

The girl was noticed by Confederate agents. Already at the age of eight, she became part of the secret Ghost program. Sarah demonstrated outstanding results. But she was forced to use her talents with maximum efficiency. She refused, citing the fact that this could lead to dire consequences. However, the pressure on her only intensified. Tensions came to a head when Kerrigan received threats to kill her father. Then she declared that she would kill herself and her father, but would not allow her power to be used. Scientists had no choice but to use a neuro-adjuster - a device that weakened Sarah’s abilities, but made her a loyal fighter. (Micky Neilson - "StarCraft: Uprising", Micky Neilson - "StarCraft: Hybrid")

Having completed her training, Carrigan received the status of “Ghost” with serial number 24601 (or simply “Ghost No. 24”). As an agent of the Confederacy, Sarah destroyed many enemies and participated in experiments using mind control. Years of torture caused irreparable damage to the girl - she turned into a withdrawn and antisocial person. At the same time, she remained a faithful performer. (Micky Neilson - "StarCraft: Uprising")

One day, the base where Kerrigan was located was attacked by soldiers of the Sons of Korhal group (a military organization created after the destruction of the world of Korhal). They manage to capture Sarah. Waking up on board a spaceship, Sarah meets the leaders of the organization. She is informed that she is a full guest and not an enemy. Also, some implants are removed from the girl’s body.

Soon it becomes known about an incident in one of the systems. Traces of aliens were found there. But the confederation tried to hide this and used weapons of mass destruction. Kerrigan gradually warmed to her new acquaintances and helped spread rumors about the appearance of aliens. In one of her many battles, she kills another "Ghost".

Kerrigan took part in a reckless but successful attack on Ghost Academy. She managed to deal with her main tormentor. Upon returning to the ship, it turns out that the head of the Sons of Korhal, Arcturus Mengsk, was driven by revenge. Kerrigan was on his list - as a "ghost", she killed Arcturus' father. But Sarah proved by her actions her loyalty to the ideals of the organization, and she was spared. (Micky Neilson - "StarCraft: Uprising")

By December 2499, the existence of the zerg was no longer a secret. Moreover, humanity encountered another race of advanced beings, later known as the Protoss. During this period, Kerrigan continues his rebel activities, in particular, providing assistance to the disgraced journalist. (Jeff Grubb - "StarCraft: Liberty's Crusade")

Then Sarah finds herself on the planet Antiga Prime. Local colonists rebelled, but Confederate troops managed to blockade the planet. In the process of completing the task, Kerrigan meets Jim Raynor, a newcomer to the Sons of Korhal. Despite the fact that their first meeting was not entirely friendly, Sarah and Jim managed to find a common language and they became a great team. Soon the zerg also entered the battle, significantly complicating life for both sides of the conflict. (StarCraft, Aaron Rosenberg - "StarCraft: The Queen of Blades")

The campaign on Antiga was also filled with the fact that a psi emitter was used against the forces of the confederation - a device that lured zerg from different parts of the galaxy. Kerrigan installed this death machine on the Confederate base, which predetermined the outcome of the conflict. Sarah doubted the correctness of such an act and demanded that Mengsk never use such “dirty” tactics again, but he only limited himself to lengthy phrases. (StarCraft, Jeff Grubb - “StarCraft: Liberty's Crusade”)

Sarah and Jim performed a couple more successful operations. Their relationship developed rapidly, and the heroes allowed their feelings to get the better of them. Although Raynor strongly doubted Mengsk's good intentions, Sarah believed the leader and advised Jim not to interfere in the affairs of his superiors. (Christie Golden - "StarCraft 2: Flashpoint")

Ten days after the events on Antiga Prime, the forces of the Sons of Korhal reached the capital of the Confederation, the planet Tarsonis. Everything went well, but Mengsk, without the knowledge of Sarah and Jim, resorted to the help of psi emitters. Billions of zerg literally crushed the Confederate defenses. The protoss intervened in the battle, trying to stop the spread of creatures throughout the universe. Kerrigan was ordered to protect the zerg hive while the monsters committed genocide. Sarah completes the assignment, but is betrayed and left to be torn to pieces by the brats.

Raynor, immediately after this order from Mengsk, leaves the Sons of Korhal and, together with a group of like-minded people, makes a desperate (alas, unsuccessful) attempt to save his beloved. (StarCraft, Jeff Grubb - “StarCraft: Liberty's Crusade”)

The Overmind (Overmind - the supreme being who controlled the zerg) sensed Kerrigan's power, and the zerg did not kill her. Moreover, the girl is infected with an unknown virus, placed in a cocoon and transported to the planet Char. Her psionic powers allowed her to contact Mengsk and Raynor, both of whom responded to the signal. (StarCraft, Aaron Rosenberg - "StarCraft: The Queen of Blades")

Upon arrival on Char, Jim witnesses a completely new Kerrigan emerge from the cocoon, who now calls herself the Queen of Blades. She easily dispatches the human soldiers, but allows Raynor to retreat.

In the future, Kerrigan continues to improve his skills. She becomes a ruthless, but still inexperienced warrior who acts rashly and overly self-confident. After lengthy hostilities, the Protoss kill the Overmind, who tried to destroy their home planet Aiur. (StarCraft).

At the time of the death of the Overmind, Sarah was on the planet Char and was creating her own clan. She sensed powerful energy from an ancient building located in the world of Bhekar Ro. There she entered into battle with the Protoss. No one could have foreseen what happened next. The building turned out to be a trap, the activation of which required the DNA of the Protoss and Zerg. As a result, powerful creatures were released and destroyed the Kerrigan clan. The Queen of Blades herself is once again presumed (and again wrongly) dead. (Gabriel Mesta - "StarCraft: Shadow of Xel'Naga")

The Zerg were not going to give up, and their best individuals managed to create a new Overmind. At that time, Kerrigan had already subjugated half of the Zerg Swarm, and her desire for absolute power only intensified. (StarCfaft: Brood War, Aaron Rosenberg - "StarCraft: The Queen of Blades")

Sarah comes into contact with the protoss and reports that with the death of Superrahum, she got rid of his protection. But the new Overmind will soon take control of it. Persuasion was in vain, and the Protoss refused to attack the revived zerg ruler. After assisting her former enemies in the search for relics, a series of intrigues and another destruction of the zerg on the planet Shakuras, Kerrigan is forced to retreat. (StarCraft: Brood War)

The next chapter of the war unfolded in the Koprulu Sector, where the forces of the United Earth Directorate (UED for short) invaded. They captured the capital of the Terran Dominion and nearly captured Mengsk. The former dictator fell into the hands of Raynor and Fenix (an elite Protoss warrior), who tried to take him to Aiur. The “earthlings” rushed after him. The zerg and other allies of Kerrigan came to Jim's aid. Subsequently, the Queen of Blades formed an Alliance with Raynor and Phoenix.

UED Admiral Gerard DuGall captures the new Overmind on the planet Char. Kerrigan, during a meeting with the admiral, declares that she now controls all the zerg.

By that time, the Queen of Blades had become a prudent and cold-blooded warrior who did not hesitate to use any means to achieve her goal. She unites the forces of Raynor, the Protoss, and Mengsk under her command. The allies help Kerrigan in a number of forays. But, seizing the moment, Kerrigan’s troops betray everyone and carry out a real massacre. Mengsk and Raynor manage to escape. Raynor vows to take revenge on Sarah.

Through deception and blackmail, Sarah finally convinces one of the most influential protoss, Zeratul, to assist her in attacking the new Overmind. Zeratul understood that this would make Kerrigan much stronger, but he had no choice. The Supermind was defeated. Then the Queen of Blades dealt with all his minions and became the sole ruler of the Zerg Swarm. Zeratul nevertheless escaped from the clutches of the intriguer. (StarCraft: Brood War)

In the decisive battle, Kerrigan confronted the troops of the United Earth Directorate, the mercenaries of Mengsk and the protoss. The Zerg under the command of the Queen of Blades manage to defeat the superior enemy forces. Realizing the hopelessness of the situation, Admiral DuGall writes a farewell letter to his family and shoots himself in the forehead. Sarah destroys the remnants of the Earth's fleet, but does not touch the protoss and Raynor, although Jim continued to throw threats at her. (StarCraft: Brood War)

After the conflict in the Koprulu sector ended, the Queen of Blades continued to develop her race and create new species. The zerg fell silent, and their motives, like those of their leader, were shrouded in darkness.

Then Kerrigan took part in attacks on the buildings of ancient races (“StarCraft: Frontline: Volume 1”). Encountered humans and protoss. The outcome of such meetings invariably led to bloodshed. But it never came to a global confrontation. (Christie Golden - StarCraft: The Dark Templar Saga: Shadow Hunters, StarCraft: The Dark Templar Saga: Twilight)

Although the zerg became an increasingly fearsome force under her leadership, Kerrigan became pessimistic. She knew that a new, perfect form of life was about to come to the galaxy.

Following one of the protoss, Kerrigan found herself on the planet Ulaan, where, according to rumors, an ancient prophecy was to be revealed. There she met her old friend Zeratul. The exchange of pleasantries ended with Kerrigan placing him in a psionic prison, but he escaped from captivity. The Protoss found all the fragments of the prophecy and were about to leave the planet when Kerrigan appeared on their way. Both sides suffered heavy casualties, but Zeratul escaped with the prophecy.

Zeratul did not really like the truth that was revealed. It turned out that Kerrigan is the key to saving civilizations from a race of hybrids (mutants that combine the capabilities of the protoss and zerg). Zeratul transfers this data to Raynor and asks him to protect Kerrigan. ("StarCraft 2: The Wings of Liberty")

The lull ended four years after the end of Brood War. Kerrigan once again led the zerg armies into battle. But the destruction of bases and research centers was only a cover for the search for parts of a device constructed by the long-vanished Xel’Naga race, creators of the Protoss and Zerg. By coincidence, Raynor was hunting for the same relics as Sarah. Jim and his companions turn out to be more agile and take possession of the relics. After which the onslaught of the zerg weakens, and the Queen of Blades returns to Char.

The true purpose of the device came as a surprise to Raynor. It turns out that it can be used to turn the Queen of Blades back into a human. To complete the task, Raynor went to Char. Despite the desperate resistance of the zerg and extremely difficult conditions, Jim carries out the assignment. As a result of using the artifact, Kerrigan began to look more like a human than a zerg. One of Raynor's associates tries to kill Sarah, but Jim saves his former lover and carries her out of the hive. ("StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty").

A weakened Kerrigan is taken to a Dominion ship commanded by Valerian Mengsk, the son of Arcturus Mengsk. To avoid meeting him, the former Queen of Blades is transported to the remote planet Dead Man’s Rock. Sarah's condition, both moral and physical, is noticeably deteriorating. She even tries to independently remove some of her body parts remaining from her zerg form. But over time, psionic abilities return, and Kerrigan warns Raynor of the impending attack.

The rebels and Sarah move to the Prometheus research station, where they planned to conduct a series of tests on her. But soon Mengsk also arrives there. He contacts the station and reports that he knows about Kerrigan's transformation. Hearing his voice, Sarah literally breaks loose and kills many soldiers. But a group of rebels, together with Kerrigan, escapes an unenviable fate.

Sarah's next location is the secret space station Umoja. There, Kerrigan declares that he wants to revive the Zerg Swarm and take revenge on Mengsk for everything. At the same time, she feels guilty for the events of past years. In it, two personalities fight - the ruthless Queen of Blades and Sarah Kerrigan, who is trying to find herself. In addition, she cannot forgive Mengsk for leaving her to be devoured by the zerg on Tartonis. (Christie Golden - "StarCraft 2: Flashpoint")

Sarah Kerrigan combines burning hatred for her enemies, cunning, cruelty, ambition and a modicum of compassion. She admits her crimes, but motivates them by the fact that the end justifies the means. It’s hard not to sympathize with her, because Sarah has repeatedly been deceived by her own comrades. And for the same reason, it is difficult not to share her rage. Kerrigan is rightfully considered one of the most striking video game heroines. I would like to believe that her story will not end with Heart of the Swarm, and that the zerg under her leadership will shake the galaxy more than once.

Sarah Louise Kerrigan was born on the planet TarCossia in the Terran Confederacy, an outer planet in the domain of the largest Terran force in the Koprulu sector. Sarah lived a normal life, but everything changed when, due to a surge of emotions at the age of eight, she developed psionic abilities. Then Kerrigan accidentally caused a kinetic wave, breaking through her mother's head and traumatizing her father's psyche. This outbreak was noticed by the Confederate "ghost" training program. Because of this, Sarah Kerrigan was captured and turned into a killer.

Kerrigan proved to be the most powerful psionicist the Confederates had ever encountered, but at the same time, she refused to use her abilities because she was afraid that the same thing would happen to her parents. One of the instructors, Lieutenant Ramm, tried to force Sarah to use her abilities by pressing hard on her. One day, he injected cancer cells into the kitten's body and offered Kerrigan a deal: she could use psionic abilities and destroy the tumors, or let the creature die. However, Sarah refused to use her powers. In the end, Ramm brought her father to Sarah and threatened her with the same thing that he did to the kitten. This time, Kerrigan said that she would rather kill herself with her own psionic abilities than work for the Confederacy. Before Sarah could do anything, she was immediately put to sleep. After this, Ramm reluctantly agreed to the use of a neuroregulator and a memory erasing procedure in order to make Kerrigan an obedient ghost. It limited her abilities, but it made her loyal.

Kerrigan became one of the Confederacy's best assassins, although her "treatment" made her antisocial and withdrawn. She was sent to such operations and assassinations as the fight against domestic terrorism, eliminating an election rival in the Umojan Protectorate (he had become too dangerous for the Confederation). When anti-Confederate sentiment began to grow on the planet Korhal, a team of ghosts led by Kerrigan was sent to kill the instigator of the unrest - Senator Angus Mengsk. Sarah killed his wife and daughter, and beheaded Angus. This led to the complete rebellion of Korhal, followed by the nuclear bombing of the planet by the Confederacy. This prompted Angus's son, Arcturus Mengsk, to continue his father's work and found the Sons of Korhal rebel group.

Soon the Confederation discovered aliens, namely the zerg. The authorities began to secretly capture potential scouts of these creatures and test the psionic abilities of the Terrans on them. Kerrigan also participated in these experiments at a base called the Fujita Facility. Through experiments it was found that zerg react to psionic signals. All the ghosts who participated in the experiments, except Kerrigan, died. Help arrived only when the Sons of Korhal captured the base and rescued Sara.

Kerrigan underwent surgery to remove the neural inhibitor. Some parts of the “modifications” were left in so that Sarah would not go crazy. After this, she was met by Arcturus Mengsk and Somo Hang (her savior). Soon, when Sara's memory returned, Mengsk agreed for her to remain with the rebels. With her memory back, Kerrigan began to realize the full extent of Confederate atrocities and offered her help. She also helped defend the Hyperion from a surprise attack by Colonel Edmund Duke. In the same battle, Sarah stole the equipment of the ghost she killed.

She soon began dating Hang, although this created some tension with the other rebels. Later, Sarah participated in the attack on the Ghost Academy on Tarsonis. It was practically suicide. Kerrigan and a small team had to infiltrate the facility and kidnap the ghost that Mengsk needed. There, Sara met Ramm, the instructor who was bullying her, and killed him with a psionic burst. Kerrigan eventually escaped, but Hang was killed during her escape. After this, she returned with the captive ghost to Mengsk. Arcturus personally killed him and revealed that this man was involved in the murder of his family, like Sarah (Due to numerous memory erases, Kerrigan did not remember this). However, Mengsk forgave her, because Sarah was much more useful to him as an ally. Kerrigan continued to assist him in battles and became second in command of the Sons of Korhal.

The Great War and the Great Betrayal

Meanwhile, the state of affairs in the Confederation changed when a huge swarm of zerg arrived in the sector. Another race of aliens, called the Protoss, cleared the Chau Sara colony with their arrival, causing panic among the Confederates. The sons of Korhal immediately moved out of Chau Sara, so Kerrigan ended up on the nearby world of Mar Sara in order to find out about the state of affairs there. They found out that the Confederation was hiding the existence of the zerg. Sarah went to UNN correspondent Michael Liberty, who was investigating the situation, and led him to a base that had been attacked by aliens. She introduced him to Mengsk, after which he joined their revolution. Arcturus quickly enlisted the help of the colony's magistrate and evacuated the survivors, then was joined by Sheriff Jim Raynor. Despite the fact that the planet was overrun by zerg a short time later, the Sons of Korhal took with them as much data on Confederate weapons as they could and left the dying world. Afterwards, Executor Tassadar arrived on Mar Sara and cleansed the planet.

Leaving Mar Sara behind, Mengsk headed towards the planet Antiga Prime, which was poised to rebel against the Confederacy. Kerrigan worked side by side with Raynor (and also read the risqué thoughts he had when they first met, calling him a pig), and together they were able to convince the people of Antiga Prime to join their rebellion and fight against the forces of General Edmund Duke and his Alpha Squadron. However, the planet was overrun by zerg, who attacked Duke's cruiser. Mengsk ordered Raynor to rescue the general, despite Kerrigan's protests. They succeeded and rescued the Confederate warlord, after which he too joined the Sons of Korhal.

Since the operation on Antiga Prime, Raynor and Kerrigan have taken part in many operations throughout the sector, becoming close comrades and later lovers after Raynor learned of her past. However, relations became very strained when Jim began to have doubts about Mengsk and his plans, while Kerrigan stood firmly on Arcturus's side. But even she began to question Mengsk when the Confederacy moved its forces to Antiga and laid siege to the planet. Mengsk then learned that the weapon he had taken from Mar Sara was being used by the Confederates to lure zerg to planets on the brink of rebellion, and the weapon was called a psi emitter. Arcturus subsequently used Kerrigan to direct the signal from the device (which was enhanced by her psionic abilities) to the Confederate forces, although she expressed doubts about their actions. The Zerg overran the planet and fought their way through the Confederate ranks, allowing the Sons of Korhal to escape just before Tassadar arrived to cleanse the world.

Finally, after months of planning and several missions, the Sons of Korhal prepared their final attack on Tarsonis. General Duke captured the orbital platforms around the planet, while Raynor, Kerrigan and Michael Liberty hit several targets on the ground. However, it turned out that Duke installed psi emitters in orbit on Mengsk's orders. Raynor and Kerrigan were both shocked and infuriated by the fact that Arcturus was going to use the zerg to destroy the planet, but the leader of the Sons of Korhal insisted that this was the only right decision. Billions of zerg overran Tarsonis, destroying its defenders and killing innocent inhabitants. Tassadar and his Protoss fleet arrived to stop the Zerg, but instead of fighting them, they sent in their ground forces to give the Terrans time to evacuate. Mengsk saw this as an opportunity for the Confederacy to escape and sent Kerrigan to stop them. Raynor was furious, but Sarah agreed. She and her forces pushed back the Protoss forces, but their positions were soon overrun by zerg.Kerrigan requested evacuation, but Mengsk ordered the fleet to retreat, leaving her to her fate.. Sarah and her forces were overwhelmed by the bloodthirsty aliens.

Enraged that Mengsk had sacrificed the lives of billions of citizens and left Kerrigan to die, Raynor and Michael Liberty left the ranks of the Sons of Korhal, and Jim himself began his own rebellion against the new regime, creating the Raydors of Raynor. He made an attempt to save Sarah, but could not find her. Meanwhile, Mengsk united the disparate Terran worlds into a new nation, the Terran Dominion, declaring himself Emperor. However, they did not yet know that Kerrigan was not killed by the zerg.

Roy Agent

The Overmind, leader of the Zerg Swarm, had long sensed the power of the Terran psionics and sought a way to assimilate one of them in order to use it as a weapon against the Protoss and against its creator, the fallen xel'naga Amon. He found what he was looking for in Kerrigan, after which he imprisoned her in a chrysalis, creating a cerebral (part of the general mind of the zerg with its own personality) so that it would look after her. With the help of fellow Cerebrates, Zashzh and Daggoth, the newcomer ended Confederate resistance and fought his way through the remnants of the Protoss fleet in orbit, bringing Kerrigan to the zerg's main forward base, the volcanic world of Char. There, the swarm evolution master Abathur worked on Sara, mixing Terran DNA with ancient Zerg DNA (and, according to the semi-canonical Retribution supplement, it is possible that he used the Xel'Naga artifact Argus Stone during this work), creating a creature with unique psychic abilities. When her body was rebuilt, she mentally contacted Raynor and Mengsk, sending them dreams of Chara. The Emperor sent General Duke and Alpha Squadron to explore the planet, but his forces were driven back by the zerg.

Cerebral moved Kerrigan to a new location, but was soon surrounded by Raynor's unexpected forces. As they attacked, Kerrigan appeared before them, now reborn as the Queen of Blades, half Terran, half Zerg. She killed Jim's people, but when he asked if she would kill him too, Sarah replied:“I could... But you are not my rival, Jim. Be a good girl. Disappear and never cross the path of the zerg again."

After this, Raynor left Char. Kerrigan went to a Dominion research vessel in orbit in order to remove all restrictions on her psychic abilities that the Confederacy had awarded her. She took part of Daggoth's pack, killed the Terrans within, and used the information she found to gain the full range of her psychic powers. However, Kerrigan's rebirth attracted the attention of not only the Terrans, but also Tassadar, who arrived on Char along with his protoss. Despite Zazhsh's warnings, she recklessly rushed at his troops, only later realizing that it was a ruse. While she was away, the Dark Prelate of the Nerazim (exiled from Tassadar's race), Zeratul, used his Void energy to kill Zashj. Since it was the same energy that the Overmind used, the dark prelate killed Cerebral and paralyzed the Overmind, forcing Daggoth and Cerebral Kerrigan to destroy the remnants of Zashzh's feral pack. Kerrigan rushed after the Nerazim, trying to stop Zeratul. But soon the Overmind woke up, who told them that he was able to see in the mind of the Dark Prelate the location of the home world of the Protoss - Aiur. Taking the bulk of the swarm with him, the zerg lord left Kerrigan on Char, where she was supposed to put an end to the remnants of the protoss forces on the planet.

However, Raynor, Tassadar and Zeratul teamed up to fight against her and her zerg. They distracted Sara, allowing Tassadar, who had been trained by Zeratul to use Void energy, to kill the Cerebral who had been helping her since her birth. Zeratul soon abandoned Raynor and Tassadar, and Kerrigan continued to pursue him, driving the Terrans into the Dominion base and surrounding him with swarm forces. However, the intervention of Tassadar, Raynor and the new Executor Artanis (who was sent to arrest Tassadar, but decided to go over to the teacher's side) saved Zeratul, after which the four heroes went to Aiur.

On Aiur, the battle did not go according to the zerg's plans, and Tassadar sacrificed himself to kill the Overmind. The swarm was split, many packs went wild, and the cerebrals tried to maintain power over the remaining ones. But on Char, Kerrigan freed herself from the control of the Overmind and had a presentiment that the hour of her triumph was near.

Zerg War

Kerrigan temporarily maintained control of Char and its packs, taking on as her assistant an infected Terran named Samir Duran, who led the Confederate Resistance Force (the surviving Confederate forces that fought against the Dominion). However, the Cerebrates under the command of Daggoth fought her and forced her to flee Chara. They understood that they needed a new Overmind to survive, since they could not exist without it, and if it became more mature, it would again take control of Kerrigan. Daggoth combined a group of cerebrals to create a young Overmind whose control over the swarm was limited. To further complicate the situation, Earth's forces, the United Earth Directorate (UED), arrived with a fleet, wanting to subjugate all forces in the sector. The Zerg War has begun.

On Aiur, the Cerebrates sent their packs to finish off the weakened Protoss, but Zeratul, Artanis and Judge Aldaris led the survivors to the world of the Nerazim - Shakuras, but they were followed by the zerg of Daggoth. However, Kerrigan struck first, subduing the Nerazim Matriarch Raszhagal, thereby taking control of the ancient Protoss. When the survivors met with Raszagal and reclaimed the xel'naga temple to cleanse the planet of zerg, Kerrigan appeared and offered her help in obtaining two crystals capable of activating the structure: Uraj and Khalis. With them, the Protoss could destroy their enemy. But despite the fact that the Protoss did not trust the Queen of Blades, Raszagal convinced them to accept her help.

The team traveled to the planet Braxis to obtain Uraj. Kerrigan personally led the Protoss against the Dominion garrison, taking the crystal after the victory. But the planet soon found itself surrounded by UED forces under the command of Admiral Gerard Dugall and Vice Admiral Alexei Stukov. Artanis fought his way through their fleet, and the group traveled to Char to mine Khalis. Kerrigan took control of the local pack and helped the Protoss defeat the zerg guarding the crystal. Having received two crystals, the allies went to Shakuras.

However, there they discovered that Aldaris had rebelled against Raszagal when he learned that Kerrigan was controlling the Matriarch. Artanis and Zeratul fought against his allies, but during the interrogation of the judge himself, Kerrigan appeared and killed him. Zeratul angrily kicked her out of Shakuras, to which she replied that she already got what she wanted. The Protoss used the power of two crystals on the temple, clearing Shakuras of Daggoth's forces.

With one part of her plan finished, Kerrigan arrived on Aiur and contacted Raynor and the protoss hero Phoenix, who were trapped on a planet overrun by zerg. There she told them about the new Overmind and the UED. The heroes agreed to help her stop the new threat, but doubted her intentions. Kerrigan gave Duran a task: to infiltrate the ranks of the UED, so that through manipulation he would force the earthlings to destroy a weapon called the psi-canceller (which was capable of destroying the psychic connection of the minds of the zerg). When Durant convinced Dugall of this, Stukov defied direct orders regarding the destruction of the weapon by reassembling it on Braxis. The UED attacked the capital planet of the Dominion - Korhal, driving Mengsk into a corner, but at the last minute he was saved by Raynor and Phoenix at the direction of Kerrigan, who moved him to Aiur. The UED began pursuing them and soon attacked Raynor and Fenix's forces, but at the last second Duran released a wave of zerg, allowing the trio to escape. Stukov, convinced that Duran was working with the zerg, launched a psi-canceller, but he, having convinced Dugall that Stukov had betrayed him, killed the vice admiral. However, DuGalle was able to see through the deception, after which he retained the psionic canceller and used it to attack Char. There he used advanced UED technology to control the young Overmind and Daggoth's powers. After this, DuGalle met with Kerrigan, who said that she would knock the Earth forces out of the sector and show him what the zerg were capable of.

However, this turned out to be not so simple, as the psi-nullifier caused the zerg, who were not under the control of the Overmind, to run wild and attack everyone indiscriminately, including most of Kerrigan's forces. She then persuaded Raynor, Phoenix and Mengsk to attack the device, making a deal with Arcturus in which she would help him retake Korhal. Together they destroyed the machine and Phoenix helped them obtain resources from the planet Moira so that they would have enough funds to attack Korhal. Having received resources, the alliance attacked the capital of the Dominion. While Kerrigan fought her way through the UED defenses and the enslaved zerg, Raynor and Fenix attacked the outlying posts. When the dust settled, the UED abandoned Korhal and Kerrigan returned Mengsk to his planet. But now, with all the zerg forces, Kerrigan no longer saw the need for her allies. She turned the zerg on the forces of Mengsk and Phoenix, killing the Protoss hero and General Duke. Raynor swore that he would finish her off for her betrayal and left the planet. After the murder of Duke, an enraged Mengsk contacted her:

Kerrigan: “I beg you, Arcturus, did you really think that I would allow you to seize power again? Didn't you abandon me to the zerg on Tarsonis? Wasn't it because of you that I went through all this hell? And you believed that you could get away with all this?”

Mengsk: “But you said that victory over the UED is more important to you than revenge!”

Kerrigan: “I lied. I liberated this planet because it was the main base of the Directorate, and not because of any obligations to you. I used you to destroy the psionic canceller. And now that the packs have returned under my wing, I no longer need you. You know what, Arcturus? I will leave you here, on the ruins of your precious Dominion, and spare your life. See how the era of my reign begins, and do not forget for a second that it was you who made me who I am.”

Kerrigan then retreated to the destroyed planet Tarsonis. But the UED sent their enslaved zerg to attack her. They outnumbered her until Durant noticed that their attacks were being coordinated by a group of scientists, and that the UED could not completely control the Overmind. Kerrigan attacked the scientists, ending their control over the packs. After this, she developed a new plan: she sent Duran and several packs to attack Shakuras in order to overload the network of pylons in their capital Talematros. Taking advantage of the resulting chaos, the zerg kidnapped Raszhagal, who was already subordinate to them. In response to this, Zeratul began to pursue them, demanding to know why they stole the Matriarch. Kerrigan offered him a deal: he would help her kill the young Overmind, and she would return Raszagal to him. At first, Zeratul doubted that she would keep her end of the deal, but the Matriarch convinced him that the Overmind must be destroyed. Kerrigan and Zeratul launched a massive attack on Char, and in perhaps the most difficult mission in Starcraft I, Zeratul killed the Overmind, thereby driving the UED forces from Char. When Kerrigan released the Matriarch, she told Zeratul that Raszagal had been her servant all along, and that she wanted to stay with her. Zeratul penetrated her defenses and teleported his leader back to his base, attempting to escape, but Kerrigan was able to catch him before he could teleport. Wanting to free the Matriarch from Sara's control, Zeratul killed Raszagal. Kerrigan was shocked and allowed Zeratul to leave, as feeling remorse for killing her leader would be the Queen of Blades' best act of revenge against the Dark Prelate.

However, things didn't turn out so well. Duran left the swarm after the death of Raszagal, and Char found himself surrounded by three fleets, the leaders of which wanted revenge. These were the Dominion fleet under the command of Arcturus Mengsk, the Protoss fleet under the command of Artanis, and the UED fleet under the command of Gerard Dugall. They all attacked her and her loyal cerebral on Char, but after a fierce battle the zergs managed to push back the attackers.Kerrigan now stood victorious on the bones of her enemies and gained complete control over the zerg., after which she sent her forces to destroy all that was left of the UED fleet, preventing any ships from returning home. However, after she gained unparalleled power in the sector, Kerrigan became quiet. There was peace in the Koprulu Sector, but Sara sensed the imminent arrival of something dark, knowing that the greatest battle was yet to come.

Queen's reign

While Kerrigan was not organizing attacks, she did not sit idly by and continued to improve the Swarm. Using her evolutionary master Abathur, she sent scouting forces throughout the cosmos to discover new species that could be assimilated into the Swarm, weeding out weak species and improving those she had. She continued to research the infected Terrans, and even created from an infected person or adjutant (unknown exactly) Izsha, a creature that would store her thoughts and memories.

However, time passed, and the few cerebrals that remained were either killed or died themselves, since there was no longer a Supermind that would support life in them. To replace them, Kerrigan changed the queens, who were previously support creatures that protected the swarm. Kerrigan combined the DNA of Terrans, possibly Protoss, and part of her own genes in them in order to turn them into full-fledged leaders of the Swarm - Mothers of the Packs. Zagara was the first of them, and she was given a goal: to continue fighting and become stronger even after she fell.

Kerrigan took part in various side events, which included an attempt to obtain the Memory Keeper Tassadar, who was trapped in the mind of a man named Jacob Ramsey. She infected a man named Ethan Stewart in order to capture him, but her scheme ultimately failed. She also led several attacks to obtain xel'naga relics and their temples. During this time, Raynor tried to fulfill his promise to kill her, but all his attacks failed, and he abandoned this idea, focusing on Mengsk.

Kerrigan did not forget the betrayal of Samir Duran, who turned out to be a xel’naga (the race that created the zerg and protoss) capable of changing his appearance. He served the fallen Amun, who tried to destroy all the creations of his brothers in order to end all conflicts. From the Void, Amon sent visions to her, trying to make her believe that there was no way to stop him. Despite the fact that information about how much influence the Fallen Xel'Naga had on her varies from source to source, Kerrigan prepared to attempt to kill the Fallen. She personally led an attack on the temple in Ulan in order to discover the xel'naga prophecy there, but there she met Zeratul. She tried to kill him, but he escaped with the prophecy. As it turned out, the prophecies were manipulations of the xel’naga Uros, who tried to save Kerrigan’s life in order to later turn her into a representative of his species to defeat Amun.

Kerrigan soon learned that Duran was hiding in the Dominion under the name of Doctor Emil Narud, who was creating protoss-zerg hybrids to serve in Amon's army. She learned that he was going to use a xel'naga artifact called the Key to resurrect the Fallen (though she did not know how) and attempted to steal it before Duran could piece the artifact together. Four years into the Zerg Wars, she sent her forces against the Terran Dominion, overrunning world after world to find pieces of the Key. However, Mengsk worked in concert with Duran, and both of them manipulated Raynor into fighting the Tal'darim (Alarak's faction) who were guarding part of the artifact. Kerrigan attempted to stop Duran by attacking the base of his scientific organization, the Mobius Foundation, on the planet Tirador VIII, but Raynor destroyed the Mobius databases before she could glean any information about the location of the artifact pieces there. Raynor soon collected the Key.

Arcturus' son Valerian contacted Jim, telling him that the artifact could cleanse Kerrigan of the infection (not knowing that this was Duran's plan all along). If Raynor had helped cure Kerrigan, he could have regained his love. Jim still loved Sarah and had not yet thought that there was still a way to save her (he was also warned by Zeratul that Kerrigan was the only one who could stop Amon). Jim agreed, to the dismay of his men. Valerian's forces and Raynor's Raiders attacked Char, surviving the hard landing and destroying the Nydus Worm tunnel network. After this, they began activating the Key, destroying a huge number of zerg on Char at the end and saving Kerrigan from infection. Sarah was now defenseless, she had become human except for her hair, which remained from her Zerg appearance, and she herself had lost all memories of being the Queen of Blades. Tychus Finley, who worked with Raynor and connected him with the Mobius Foundation, turned out to be working for Mengsk all this time, and if he killed Kerrigan, he would have been freed. Raynor shot his old friend and carried his beloved away.

Revival and revenge

Kerrigan was taken from Char, but Arcturus Mengsk sent his fleet after her in order to finish her off, coming into conflict with Raynor and Valerian when they fled to Doctor Narud (Duran) for safety. Meanwhile, Kerrigan was devastated and depressed, unsure of who she was. She only remembered fragments of memories of her time as the Queen of Blades. When they met Duran, Kerrigan felt something familiar about him, and after he took the Key, it was revealed that he was working for Arcturus, after which he released the hybrids on them. Raynor, Kerrigan and Valerian were able to escape, but not before Kerrigan accidentally killed one of Jim's soldiers using her powers. Unsure if she could be trusted, Valerian and Raynor took her to the Umojan Protectorate while escaping Arcturus' forces.

There, Valerian conducted tests on her in order to check how much zerg gene remained in Kerrigan, while Sarah tried every time to prevent them from being carried out. After Raynor told the prince that they had enough, he and Kerrigan prepared to fly away together to start a new life, but were soon discovered by the Dominion, who sent a strike force under the command of Nova to Valerian's base. Kerrigan and Raynor tried to escape, but were cut off from each other, after which Kerrigan destroyed the Archangel (the boss of the Braxis Carnage) in order to escape from the base. At the same time, Raynor was captured by Nova. When Kerrigan met with Valerian on Hyperion, the latter stated that he had lost contact with Raynor, after which Kerrigan attacked him, thinking that he had abandoned Jim the same way Arcturus had abandoned her. However, after the intervention of Raynor's first mate, Matt Horner, Kerrigan left Valerian alone and took the ship to their appointed meeting place with Raynor. But there she found only Dominion forces. Kerrigan then took control of a nearby pack of zerg and defeated Mengsk's men. But Jim was nowhere to be seen. Later, on the news on the ship, she saw a message from Mengsk that he had executed Raynor. Enraged, Kerrigan decided to regain power over the Swarm in order to take revenge on Mengsk.

Kerrigan returned to Char, which at that time was under the control of Dominion General Horace Warfield, who at one time helped Raynor and Valerian cure Kerrigan. She returned to her leviathan (a huge living zerg ship) and regained control of Izsha and Abathur. On the planet itself, she fought with Zagara, who subjugated many packs, not wanting to recognize Kerrigan as the Queen of Blades, but Sarah managed to defeat her and subjugate her to her will. Together they attacked General Warfield's forces, attacking his base. During the battle, Warfield was pierced by a piece of metal, after which he, when meeting with Kerrigan, stated that she should let his people retreat, but after she only remained silent, he stated:“You are a creature. There is nothing human left in you. You betrayed us all, and for what? Your pathetic revenge? How many innocents have you killed already? How many more are waiting to die? Raynor should see you now."

After these words, Kerrigan killed him, but allowed the Dominion forces to fly off the planet. Char was once again under the control of the zerg. After these events, on her leviathan, Kerrigan met with Zeratul, with whom she initially entered into battle, but the dark prelate told her about the home world of the zerg Zerus, where the ancient zerg were once converted into the Swarm. Zeratul wanted her to become the original zerg so that the xel'naga Uros' prophecy would be fulfilled. There, Kerrigan fought with the local inhabitants, wanting to awaken an ancient primordial named Zurvan. He told her about the birthplace of the zerg, where she could change herself. She entered a mysterious pool, where she began her rebirth, while Zagara protected her from the advancing original ones. Soon, Kerrigan emerged from the pool, becoming a much stronger creature than before (although she looks like an ordinary Queen of Blades, only purple). When she returned to Leviathan, she was met by a primordial zerg named Dehaka, who sensed her power and offered to help her. As long as he follows her and receives the essence (genetic material), he will be faithful. She agreed and then set off to subjugate the rest of the originals, killing the last pack leaders and collecting their essence. When that was done, Zurvan betrayed her and tried to consume the queen, but Kerrigan killed him too, taking his essence. Zerus and the original zerg were now under her control, and she herself became stronger than ever.

Returning to the sector, she went to the frozen moon of Kaldir in order to subjugate the Mother of the pack, Nafash, who was there. However, there she learned that the Protoss had killed Nafash and were now planning to contact Shakuras in order to summon a fleet against Kerrigan. Realizing that the Protoss posed a real threat to her, she destroyed the psionic beacons that allowed the aliens to use the Khala over long distances. She then destroyed their shuttles that they were about to send through the portal. When they attempted to escape on a colony ship, Kerrigan implanted a larva into a Protoss captive named Lassara, allowing her friends to transport her to the ship. Soon the larva was released from her, after which she began to consume the species of animals on board the ship, and then she evolved into a Pack Mother named Niadra. She destroyed the ship and killed the Protoss, losing contact with Kerrigan in the process. Niadra vowed to continue fighting against the Protoss.

After the incident, Kerrigan contacted Mengsk, who told her that Raynor was alive, and if she cared about his life, she would not dare attack the Dominion. Sarah contacted Matt Horner and Valerian Mengsk and asked them to find Raynor. She soon learned that Raynor was being held on the prison ship Morros. Kerrigan attacked him and found Jim, buthe was shocked that she became a zerg again, telling her that she was still the same killer who once killed Phoenix. He left, telling her that everything was over between them.

Depressed, Kerrigan knew she needed to continue her fight against Mengsk. Unexpectedly, Stukov came into contact with her, who was resurrected after infection and led her to Duran’s laboratory, who tried to turn him into a hybrid. The two attacked the laboratory, battling Dominion forces, hybrids, and Tal'darim loyal to Duran, but Kerrigan overpowered them all and finally cornered the xel'naga werewolf. During a fierce battle, Kerrigan killed him, sending him back to the Void, but he managed to tell her that the energy absorbed by the Key had already resurrected Amon, and that they would see each other soon. Kerrigan vowed that after she killed Mengsk, she would fight the fallen xel'naga.

Kerrigan then unleashed her full power on Korhal, telling Valerian that he would have to take over as leader after his father's death. Valerian forced her to agree to attack outside the city while he evacuated the people, thereby letting Raynor know that she was no longer the mindless killer she once was. Kerrigan destroyed Korhal's orbital defense system and, with Dehaka's help, destroyed Mengsk's anti-zerg superweapon, the psionic destroyer. Kerrigan then attacked Mengsk in his palace and, with the help of Raynor and her zerg allies, was able to drive back Mengsk's elite guard, cornering the emperor himself.Kerrigan met with Mengsk, but it turned out that the latter had the Key, with which he tried to kill her. However, he was stopped by Raynor, who destroyed the artifact's control device, allowing Kerrigan to deal the final blow to Mengsk. She sent psychic energy through his body, after which he exploded. Finally, Kerrigan had her revenge, but now she had to fight Amon.

The cycle continues

Kerrigan directed her Swarm to destroy the remaining Mobius Foundation laboratories that were producing hybrids in the service of Amun. During one of the attacks, she again met with Zeratul, who was trying to save the captured Protoss in the laboratory. Kerrigan refused to pause her attack. Zeratul still managed to save his comrades, after which Sara destroyed the base. But as expected, Amun returned, controlling an army of Tal'darim, the hybrids who controlled the wild zerg, the Mobius Foundation troops and all the protoss associated with the Khala. The last war has begun.

Kerrigan went to the hidden xel'naga temple on Ulnar, where the race of creators slumbered. She wanted to enlist their support against Amun. But even here she encountered the forces of Amon, and she had to fight the hybrids and servants of the fallen xel'naga for several days. She subsequently met with Artanis, who was leading the protoss who had not fallen under the control of Amon, who also arrived on Ulnar to find the xel'naga. Inside, they learned that the rise of the protoss and zerg race was caused by Amon, and not the rest of the xel'naga. When they reached the final chamber, it was revealed that Amon had killed all the xel'naga inside and set a trap there, opening a portal to the Void, which released destructive energy from there. Only the help of Alarak, who led his troops to Artanis, helped the two heroes escape alive. Kerrigan's zerg took the brunt of the void energy, while Artanis got rid of the crystals powering the portal. Her Swarm was significantly weakened and it took her some time to recover. She told Artanis that he needed to gather allies to fight Amun.

However, Kerrigan did not end her fight. In non-canonical co-op missions, Kerrigan personally led an attack against elite zerg, fighting her way through Amun's forces using her psychic powers.

Artanis succeeded in driving Amun out of the Khala, sending him back to the Void and ending his campaign to destroy life in the universe. However, two years later, Kerrigan heard a voice in the Void calling to her, saying that Amon was still alive and that the heroes would have to go into the Void to kill him. Kerrigan called Artanis and Raynor, who sent their last forces to end the war.

They entered the void, finding that they were called by the ghost of Tassadar, who had been imprisoned by Duran, who had assumed his true form. The three factions fought him (with the final blow being dealt by Stukov) and freed Tassadar's spirit, which turned out to be an illusion used by the xel'naga Uros. He told Kerrigan that she combines purity of form and essence (being the original zerg and psionic human), and now she can become a xel'naga. Raynor was against this idea, but Kerrigan saw that this was the only way she could repay for the billions of lives lost. Raynor, Artanis and Zagara protected her while Uros channeled his energy into her, which Amon tried to prevent. However, the heroes succeeded, and Kerrigan became a xel'naga, taking the form of a flaming angel (this is explained by the fact that xel'naga take any form they wish or see as divine). With her rebirth, Kerrigan gave control of the Swarm to Zagara. Finally, Sara cornered Amun and, with the help of the Terrans and Protoss, destroyed the shield surrounding him. Before finally killing him, she said:“You don’t know anything about me! And I don't care about the Xel'Naga Eternal Cycle or your vile lies. I choose freedom. Freedom for all of us." After that, she dealt the final blow to Amun, ending him once and for all.

Kerrigan, now a xel'naga, transported her allies back to the material universe. Before she left, she left Zagara two gifts, one was the "gift of choice" (perhaps giving the Mother of the Pack more free will), and the second was a limited amount of xel'naga essence with which they could create life. Zagara, seeing the world as the only way the zerg can survive, uses these gifts to heal the scars of conflict.

A spark of life flashed across the sector, the cause of which was unknown (whether it was the xel'naga hybrids Zagara or Kerrigan). Sara subsequently appeared to Jim Raynor on Mar Sara, now fully human, and asked him if he was ready to leave. He replied, “Damn, it’s about time,” and walked out of the bar. No one saw him again.

In part two of our series, Brian Kindregan, co-lead writer for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and lead writer for Heart of the Swarm, answers questions about the game's story that are of most interest to our community.

Question: Before meeting Kerrigan, Jim Raynor already had a family, a wife and a son. How does it happen that Sarah Kerrigan is “the only and beloved” for him?

Answer: We didn’t talk about the fact that she is Jim’s only one.

For several years, Jim was doing just fine, but he lost everything. A new stage began in his life (or rather, everything returned to normal), and he again took up arms. The life of a soldier is full of difficulties, and the intensity of passions is simply frantic. Jim had strong feelings for Sarah, even loved her, but this did not change his attitude towards his family. People mourn loss, but life goes on...eventually.

Question: At the end of Wings of Liberty, Arcturus Mengsk's empire was on the verge of collapse. The Zerg absorbed most of the outlying worlds and systematically approached the key planets. Raynor revealed to the citizens of the Dominion the truth that it was Mengsk who committed genocide on Tarsonis. Riots and uprisings began to flare up, people took to the streets of all major cities, including Augustgrad. The son of Arcturus then commandeered half the entire space fleet, desperately hoping to put an end to the Queen of Blades. How did Mengsk manage to maintain control of the Terran Dominion despite endless hostilities?

Answer: Mengsk maintained his power through fiendishly intricate intrigue, cruelty, and good old-fashioned cunning. The threat to his empire had not passed by the time of Heart of the Swarm, but he was not short of ingenuity, and he still had many ways to retain power. If the Swarm had started a full-scale war with the Terrans or the Kelmorian Syndicate had been able to muster enough forces to attack, the Dominion would not have survived. Note that the Swarm attacked planets only in order to search for an artifact, and after the disappearance of the Queen of Blades, its unity was disrupted. As for the Kelmorians, they had a very hard time at that time.

Question: How did it happen that Jim Raynor was indifferent to the events of StarCraft and Brood War? Why doesn't he want to kill Kerrigan (after all, he knows about the atrocities she committed)? Did Jim fall in love with her?

Answer: First of all, you need to understand Jim's attitude towards Kerrigan. Of course, Horner, Tychus and the entire Hyperion crew saw her only as a terrible monster and wanted revenge for the crimes she had committed. For them there was no difference between Kerrigan and the Queen of Blades, and for quite a long time Jim did not see this difference either. But as soon as Valerian told him that Sarah could be saved, Jim began to have doubts. Maybe in the heart of the ruthless alien queen, who destroyed entire worlds, there is still something left of the “old” Sarah, who destroyed her opponents in cold blood, but did not enjoy killing? Is it possible? Jim didn't know for sure. He had already seen the Queen of Blades betray her allies more than once, and he did not rely entirely on Valerian’s idea. So Jim, as always, had to rely on his instincts. He had a choice to make: give in to his hatred of Mengsk and the Queen of Blades, or grasp hope and try to change everything. His instinct did not let him down, and he chose the latter.

Jim has lost too much in his life, much more than anyone else. That's why he was so attracted to the opportunity to save Kerrigan. He lost his family, friends, ideals, could not prevent the death of doomed worlds and thought that Kerrigan was also irrevocably lost to him. But then Jim learned that there was a chance to save her. For the first time he had the opportunity to make up for the loss, for the first time he could fix something, and not just try to do everything possible so as not to make it worse.

Question: How are units like the Mutalisk and Banshee able to move in a vacuum?

Answer: Another great question that we discussed among ourselves. The discussion was usually accompanied by fights using furniture. In general, mutalisks produce a specific gas that allows them to use jet propulsion while discarding part of their own mass. Thus, mutalisks can move even in a vacuum due to the thrust created by the gas exhaust. Although they cannot perform complex maneuvers, mutalisks are capable of changing the direction of movement.

In the atmosphere of planets, mutalisks simply use their wings, and the gas is intended exclusively for flight in space. Are you wondering why they keep flapping their wings even when there is no air? It's all about instincts. In the same way, a dog twitches its hind legs when you scratch its belly.

As for Terran and Protoss units, the answer is even simpler. Their equipment is additionally equipped with standard rocket engines designed exclusively for flights in airless space.

The first time we learn about Kerrigan is in the mission “Call to Revolt”, in the company of the Terrans in the game Starcraft. In it, Arcturus Mengsk sends her and Raynor to Antiga I in order to free the colonists and demonstrate good intentions to the Antigans. Kerrigan distracts General Duke's army, and Jim frees the colonists. Mission completed, the men of Antig I support the Sons of Korhal's rebellion against the Confederacy. The Confederacy appears to be in a state of panic over the Antigan Rebellion. The adjutant intercepted a distress signal in which General Edmond Duke, after a ship crash, was surrounded by zerg and asked for help. Having destroyed the zerg and freed the general from encirclement, a group of revolutionaries learns that their position has been discovered and they are surrounded by Confederate troops. Arcturus Mengsk asks to tell Sarah that the Confederation is conducting a program for psychically gifted people, training them to become ghosts. Scientists have discovered that the zerg are attracted to the psionic radiation of ghosts. The Confederacy conducted a lot of secret research related to the zerg and ghosts. We managed to find out that the base contains information about the creation of a psionic emitter that can propagate waves over gigantic distances.

The Confederacy must pay for its crimes against Mar Sara. Mengx suggests using the psionic emitter and setting the zerg against the Confederacy. Kerrigan was against this, but an order is an order. Using weapons that lure the zerg, they leave the ring of the Federation army. The next steps they take are to Tarsonis. Using Duke's knowledge of the weaknesses of city defenses, they easily pass through the defenses. Taking the amplifiers and again using the psionic emitter, Mengsk is going to set the zerg on the entire planet. Kerrigan tries to dissuade him, but to no avail. Like a beacon, the combined power of the psi emitters penetrated every corner of the sector, drawing billions of zerg towards Tarsonis. Having swept away the superior Confederate defenses in their path, the zerg began to lay waste to the main cities of Tarsonis and industrial centers. Suddenly, the Protoss arrive on Tarsonis and fight the Zerg. Fearing that the Confederacy will slip away, Mengsk sends an armada led by Kerrigan to destroy the Protoss and prevent the Confederate forces from escaping. Sarah agrees and goes to carry out the order. Raynor tries to dissuade her, but she justifies her actions by saying that the Protoss want to destroy the planet along with the people. Having destroyed the Protoss bases, Kerrigan's camp is attacked by a huge army of Zerg. She requests evacuation, but Mengsk refuses to help her and leaves her for dead.

The zerg didn't kill Kerrigan. By order of the Overmind, she was taken to Abathur's evolutionary compartment and together they created the Queen of Blades.

The Overmind, the entity that controls the zerg, sensed Kerrigan's outstanding psionic abilities and wished to turn the girl into the Swarm's new weapon. Directing all his efforts to mutate the genome of a ghost unique in nature. The Overmind transformed Kerrigan into a creature combining psionic power and biological immortality. Thus the Queen of Blades was born. Kerrigan, the new and most powerful executor of the will of the Overmind, has risen from her embryonic chrysalid. The Overmind did not want to suppress Kerrigan's intelligence and strategic thinking, so he partially left her free will so that Sarah would be different from the Cerebrates. This is what allowed Sarah's ambitions to grow. On the planet Char, Raynor attacked the zerg and saw the Queen of Blades awaken. He recognized her as Sarah, but could not believe his eyes. When they meet, Kerrigan explains that she is now a zerg and she likes this fate. The Queen of Blades attacks Raynor's base and infects it. A conversation takes place in which Sarah says that Jim is not a hindrance for her, and he can leave. With no other choice, Raynor leaves Char. However, its enormous potential has not yet been fully realized. To do this, Kerrigan needs to remove the block on the Ghost project, which limits her power. Only then will she be able to lead the Overmind packs into battle against the unsuspecting Protoss. To gain full access to her capabilities, Sarah decides to infiltrate a Terran scientific ship and get to the secrets of the Ghost program. Zsasz (one of the Overmind's servants) tries to stop her. But the Overmind says that Kerrigan can do and do as he wants. She is like, and all zerg are connected to him. Arriving with the zerg on the ship, Sarah kills the guards and downloads the information. After some time, the protoss flew to Char and Kerrigan let a Templar named Tassadar know that her strength was odd compared to his. Kerrigan also noticed that Tassadar was weak for some reason. After threatening him, she prepares to attack. After deceiving the Queen of Blades, Tassadar kills Zsasz. The Garm pack has gone wild, Kerrigan asks the Thinker to take care of the rampaging pack that was causing destruction in the ranks of the zerg. Sarah decided to deal with the protoss. After calming the Garm pack, Sarah Kerrigan kills most of the Dark Templars and Protoss on Char. Tassadar and the dark templar Zeratul managed to survive the furious attacks, the number of their troops being greatly reduced. Kerrigan remained on Char to hunt down and destroy the remaining Protoss. And now he prowls the burning wastelands of the planet in search of his elusive prey.

Meanwhile, most of the Zerg Swarm flies on leviathans to begin the long-awaited invasion of the capital of the hated Protoss - Aiur.

The Overmind invaded Aiur, settling among the ruins of the Xel'Naga temple, the scale of the invasion took the Protoss by surprise. While their armies were regrouping after the first unsuccessful battles, more and more swarms of zerg overran the planet.

Soon, all of Aiur was embroiled in a full-scale race war. Meanwhile, Tassadar and Zeratul barely escaped after the destruction of their main camp on Char. After their forces were completely destroyed, they wandered the planet, trying to survive and avoid Kerrigan's traps - forced to rely only on themselves. She led the packs on Char in an attempt to destroy the remnants of the Protoss expeditionary force. Having let Raynor go in peace, she had no intention of doing the same to the protoss.

StarCraft: Brood War

Having learned that the Overmind is dead, Kerrigan plans to take control of the Swarm, but the Thinkers prevent her from doing so. Sarah decides to go to Shakuras and use the protoss to kill the creatures controlling the pack. Using her psionic powers, she takes control of the Dark Templar Matriarch and uses Zeratul to deceive her. After some time, she learns that a new Overmind was born on the planet Char, over which the troops of the United Earth Derrictories (UED) took control. Going to Shakuras, in her citadel she called upon Raynor and Phoenix, who, thanks to her help, were able to survive and escape from Aiur. Sarah says that the new Overmind is under the control of the UED and they control most of the zerg. So Kerrigan asks for their help. Duran (Kerrigan's devoted servant) intervenes in the conversation and says that he needs to report something important to the queen. She ends the negotiations and listens to Duran. He reports that the UED are using a psi-canceller, the waves of which have reached the planet and are disrupting the unity of the pack. Kerrigan has no choice but to kill the zerg troops who were under the control of the UED. Having defeated the uprising, Kerrigan asks Raynor to deliver Mengsk. Upon Arcturus's arrival, she offers him a deal. If he helps her, she will make him ruler of Korhal again. Mengsk agrees and sends several emitters, which he used to control the zerg. To begin with, Kerrigan, Raynor, Mengsk and Phoenix decide to destroy the power supply of the psi-nullifier. By destroying the power supply, Kerrigan regains control of the zerg army. To increase Kerrigan's hives, she needs resources that are located on the planet Moria.

Having taken control of part of the army, Phoenix sets off to get them.

The army is strong and it's time to attack Korhal. The UED army was destroyed, Mengsk again became the ruler of the planet. On the outskirts of Augustgrad. Kerrigan's only choice is to deal with the UED forces on Char, but her former allies could pose a serious problem. She orders Duran to kill Raynor, Phoenix and General Duke, without whom Mengsk is unable to do anything. Kill everyone in the name of the queen! General Duke and Phoenix fell in battle, only Jim Raynor managed to escape.

Kerrigan travels to Tarsonis to plan his next actions. Arriving on Tarsonis, they are attacked by packs of zerg, which were sent by the UED from Char. Having killed the zerg, she is going to kidnap the Matriarch of the Dark Templars. Having stolen it, she came up with a plan in which Zeratul would help her. By killing the new Overmind and the UED troops, she will become the sole ruler of the Swarm. It will take a lot of troops to attack. Zeratul learns that Kerrigan is holding the Matriarch captive and she will release her if Zeratul helps her. In the Dialogue, the Matriarch herself, who was under Kerrigan's control, asks Zeratul to destroy the Overmind. The Dark Templar agrees. Having broken through the defenses, Zeratul kills the Overmind and demands the release of the Matriarch. Kerrigan tells how she took control of it and used it to eliminate the rebellious zerg, and also used Zeratul to kill the Overmind. Zeratul then grabs the Matriarch and teleports away. The remnants of the UED army fled, Zeratul and the Matriarch teleported to the nearest Protoss camp on Char. Kerrigan orders Duran to mobilize the entire army and destroy the Protoss, and deliver Zeratul and the Matriarch alive. The army surrounded Zeratul. After he personally killed the Matriarch, Kerrigan unexpectedly leaves him alive. Zeratul swore that she would regret it and flew away. Kerrigan became the sole ruler of the zerg.

A couple of days later, Duran disappears, and 3 fleets appear in Char’s orbit: the Dominion of Arcturus of Mengsk, the Protoss with Artanis, and the UED fleet under the command of Admiral De Gaulle. Kerrigan took advantage: the planet Char was zerg, all the zerg in the sector were approaching to help their queen. Every zerg, every organism, every creature on the planet Char began to attack and destroy the aggressor and enemy of the zerg without any pity. Shortly after De Gaulle's defeat, the surviving UED ships were attacked by Kerrigan's forces and completely destroyed. None of them ever reached Earth to report what happened. De Gaulle himself could not stand the defeat and his betrayal and shot himself on his cruiser. With the pitiful, battered remains of his fleet, Arcturus Mengsk slipped away to Korhal, licking his wounds and making new plans to revive his Terran Dominion. Artanis and the surviving Protoss returned to Shakuras to begin rebuilding their once great civilization. After the battle, Sarah Kerrigan. And again I stand in front of the corpses of my enemies... Triumphant, although not without scars. The Directory that came from Earth is broken, and the Overmind rests dead, trampled into the ashes of Chara. As for my former worthless allies, I think that they can be given a “respite.” In the meantime, I will look for their strengths and weaknesses. In the end, they will all fall into my hands, for I am the Queen of Blades! From now on, no one will ever encroach on my power! On a dark platform hanging above the scorched planet of Char, Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, sat alone, commanding her ferocious packs. Unable to get rid of the feeling of a mortal threat gathering over the horizon, she only silently peered into the darkness of endless space. Or perhaps she saw traces of her white victories and the trials that she had to go through.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Kerrigan traveled to the planet Ulaan to read an ancient prophecy and met Zeratul there.

Who was able, due to the self-sacrifice of Karassu and his brothers, to escape, taking with him an ancient prophecy. 4 years have passed. The Queen of Blades already has a huge army and is setting out to destroy the Terran sectors. Kerrigan wasted no time and created a virus that turned the Terrans into creatures that could only be stopped with weapons. Also, for better management and increasing the army, she created a special type of zerg - Pack Mothers.

During the destruction of Terran residents and cities, Kerrigan learns about the artifact that Jim Raynor is looking for and tries in every possible way to stop him. After some time, she feels the presence of Duran, who reincarnated and took a new name for himself - Narud. It was located on Tirador VIII, and there was information about other parts of the artifact. Jim Raynor manages to mix all the cards. He took Narud and destroyed all archives with information. Kerrigan returns to Char. Raynor and his friends and Valerian's fighters used the artifact, Kerrigan again received a human form.

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm

Waking up, Kerrigan finds himself at Valerian Mengsk's research base.

Before letting her go, Valerian asks her to undergo several tests. During one of them, Kerrigan proves that you shouldn’t joke with the zerg. After leaving the protective chamber, Raynor meets her and says that everything is over and she can fly away.

But that would be too easy an ending for the Queen of Blades. Suddenly the base is attacked by Dominion troops, Kerrigan and Raynor go to the port. Having reached the port they separate. Jim is captured. Kerrigan destroys the Archangel (one of the Dominion's new weapons), takes Jim's ship and flies off to Hyperion. Jim didn't show up for the meeting. To break through and save him, you need to destroy the cannon on the planet. Near the Terran camp, Kerrigan takes control of the Zerg camp. Having gathered a huge army, she destroyed the weapons. Entering her ship, she learns on the news that Jim was shot.

Sarah goes to Zerus. Upon arrival, she talks to the protoss and he flies away.

Kerrigan's first goal is to awaken the Ancient One named Zurvan.

Waking him up from his sleep, he tells about Amun and how he came to Zerus and changed and enslaved the original zerg. But some were able to hide and develop by absorbing the essence. Returning to the leviathan, Kerrigan visits Abathur, who complains that he does not like how the original zerg accept the development of the zerg. Afterwards Zurvan began to talk about the whirlpool of birth. The place where the first creature was born, which absorbed another and began to develop. The first zergs appeared there. If Kerrigan passes the test and survives being in the chrysalid, she will receive the power of Zerus and become even more powerful than before. Arriving at the pool, Kerrigan asks Izsha to protect her while she is reborn. Kerrigan's Fury was able to help her survive the transformation and the new and powerful Queen of Blades was reborn.

Vengeance is coming on Arcturus Mengsk. After being reborn, Kerrigan meets Dehaka on the leviathan, who plans to join her.

His goal is to constantly absorb more and more new essence. To take control of the zerg of Zerus, Zurvan says that it is necessary to defeat the leaders of the packs: Yagdra, Crait, Zilvan. Having killed them and taken their essence, Kerrigan returns to the leviathan, along the way Zurvan appears and says that the meaning of survival and strength of the zerg is the absorption of essence and attacks Kerrigan. The Queen of Blades defeats him, takes the Essence, unites and takes part of the Primordial Zerg army. In the evolution chamber, Abathur admires the power of the Queen of Blades. Sarah Kerrigan goes to Char, saves the life of Zagara's pack mother, and increases the army. To completely take control of Char, you need to defeat the troops of General Warfield. With the help of cunning he defeats him.

Kerrigan hears a call for help and goes to its source. Arriving, former Terran Alexey Stukov gets on her ship.

He tells how he survived and became a zerg thanks to the experiments of Doctor Narud. Asks to destroy the Dominion laboratory for creating hybrids. Having defeated the Terran warriors, going down to the bottom of the laboratory, Kerrigan meets Doctor Narud. He says that Amun himself created it. In the battle, the Queen of Blades defeats him, but almost meets death herself.

Zagara, Stukov and Izsha managed to take her to the pool for healing.

After leaving this planet, Issha finds a transmitter in orbit and gives it to Kerrigan. Arcturus Mengsk delivers a message that Raynor is alive and the zerg should stay away from the Dominion. Having passed this on to Hornet and Valerian, they find the coordinates of the prison ship and pass them on to Kerrigan. The Queen of Blades kills the guards and frees Jim, who was not beside himself about the fact that Kerriga had become a zerg.

Having gathered all the zerg, Kerrigan goes to Korhal to overthrow and kill Mengsk. Having landed troops and destroyed the pulse shield with the help of Dehaka, she prepares for the siege of Augustgrad. Valerian asks not to kill civilians.

Raynor arrives and together with Kerrigan they attack Augustgrad.

Having killed Mengsk, Kerrigan sets off to stop an even more powerful evil in the person of Amun.

Heroes of the Storm

Strong, aggressive, cunning, merciless in Nexus battles. The Queen of Blades can only play the role of a killer, instilling fear and panic in the ranks of the enemy team. Zergs do not go alone; with the correct use of Kerrigan, your team will always have numerical superiority. The psionic abilities that Sarah possesses give her superiority over other heroes. A team that includes the Queen of the Swarm herself is simply doomed to win.

James Eugene Raynor was born on August 20, 2470 on the planet Shiloh into a farmer's family. As a child, his grandfather taught him to hunt and shoot - these skills served him well as a sheriff. Until he was eighteen, he did not leave his home, working on the farm. In his youth, Raynor was not only a good student, but also quickly mastered riding almost all mechanical vehicles, including Vultures.

In 2488, the Terran Confederacy was embroiled in guild wars. Resources were depleted, taxes were rising, and the army began to aggressively recruit fighters. Young James became one of them. Shortly after training, James was assigned to the 321st Ranger Battalion, "Sky Devils". It was there that he met Tychus Findlay, who had just completed a three-month prison sentence for assaulting a superior officer.

During a mission on the planet Turaxis 2, Raynor and Finley were made scapegoats to cover up the mistakes of their superiors and were declared war criminals. Realizing the hopelessness of their situation, Raynor and Findlay deserted. In order to somehow earn a living, they had to engage in robbery. Unfortunately, like most criminals, Findlay was captured, but in doing so he gave Raynor the opportunity to escape. Tychus was sentenced to life in prison, while Raynor headed to Mar Sara to accept his old acquaintance's offer to become the local sheriff.

Here he started a family and was already thinking about a peaceful life, but soon his son was taken to the ghost academy, having discovered psionic abilities in the boy. A few months later, James received a letter sadly informing him that his son had died in an accident. Jim's wife could not bear the grief and soon died. Then the great war began.

In StarCraft, Raynor first appears as the sheriff of a colonial militia. While escorting refugees, Jim receives a distress call from an outpost. Without waiting for reinforcements, Raynor clears the outpost of zerg and destroys the infected command center. As thanks, James is thrown into prison for destroying Confederate property. It is unknown how long he would have spent in prison if he had not been freed by the Sons of Korhal rebels under the leadership of Arcturus Mengsk. For many reasons, Jame very quickly goes over to the side of the rebels and, together with them, fights against the zerg. Here he meets Sarah Kerrigan, Mengsk’s assistant, and mutual sympathy quickly arises between them.

However, Mengsk, obsessed with the idea of destroying the Confederacy, uses psi emitters to set the zerg against its capital, the planet Tarsonis. To prevent the arriving Protoss from disabling the emitter, he sends Kerrigan with a detachment of troops. After Sarah successfully completes the task, Arcturus leaves her to die under the onslaught of hordes of zerg. Jim tries to dissuade Mengsk from this madness, but he remains adamant. Raynor, unable to save Sarah, realizes that he has brought another tyrant to power and, having seized the cruiser Hyperion, renounces Mengsk and the Dominion.

However, Sarah did not die - the Zerg Overmind decided to make her part of the Swarm, turning her into a hybrid of a zerg and a human - the Queen of Blades. Raynor tries to stop her, but the Queen of Blades easily destroys his troops and, generously, leaves Raynor alive, not seeing him as a threat.

In the third campaign of StarCraft, Raynor manages to join forces with the Protoss to jointly destroy the Zerg Overmind. Unfortunately, the destruction of the command center could not save the Protoss home planet from being captured by the zerg. After this, as fate would have it, Raynor has to collaborate with Kerrigan and Mengsk to stop the invasion of the forces of the United Earth Directorate. However, after the Queen of Blades achieves her personal goals, she treacherously betrays the alliance and kills many of Jim's comrades. Raynor vows to destroy Kerrigan, but, not having such an opportunity, is forced to retreat.

During the time between the events of the first and second parts of the StarCraft game, Raynor continues to fight against Mengsk, but the rebel forces are dwindling every year. Sometimes Raynor must engage in outright robbery in order to somehow finance the slowly dying rebellion. James' soul is also slowly dying - he spends more and more time with a bottle in his hand, indulging in memories.

In the game StarCraft 2, James Raynor is brought back to life by Tychus Findlay, who finds him on Mar Sara and offers to earn some money by collecting ancient artifacts for the scientific foundation. Jim, of course, accepts his old friend's offer. Soon, the Dominion planets are again attacked by the zerg under the leadership of Kerrigan. As it turns out, she is also hunting for artifacts that are part of an ancient prophecy. At the same time, on Hyperion, Zeratul contacts Jim and, with the help of a memory crystal, tells him that the Universe is doomed and only Kerrigan can stop the destruction of all life. The pieces of Raynor's puzzle begin to come together after he learns that the artifacts he has been searching for are part of an ancient Xel'Naga relic. With his help, he can return Sarah to her human form. For this, Raynor is ready to do anything - even a suicidal plan - to penetrate Char - the main planet of the zerg and activate the artifact near the main Hive. At the cost of the lives of many soldiers, Raynor manages to carry out his plans. The artifact worked: the cruel, inhuman, and emotionless Queen of Blades became human again. As soon as Raynor approached her, Tychus tried to kill Kerrigan, following Mengsk's orders. Jim had to make a choice between an old friend and the love of his life, a bullet fired into Tychus's forehead was the answer to this question.

Sarah and James spend the next few months in a secret laboratory on Umoja. Scientists are trying to determine what remains of the former Queen of Blades in Sarah. Unfortunately, according to the plot of StarCraft 2, Raynor and Kerrigan are not destined to enjoy each other's company: the laboratory is attacked by Dominion forces, Sarah manages to escape, and Jim is captured.

Soon, Dominion channels announce that the rebel leader, Jim Raynor, has been executed. Sarah has nothing more to lose and she again becomes the Queen of Blades on the home planet of the zerg - Zerus. The initial pool of rebirth gives her more strength than ever. But soon after the transformation, Kerrigan learns that Jame is alive and imprisoned on a prison ship. To save him, she has to make a lot of efforts. But Raynor, seeing that Kerrigan has become a zerg again, is disappointed in her. All efforts, hundreds and thousands of deaths of his fighters were in vain. Kerrigan puts a gun in his hand and points it to his forehead, but James leaves, not having the strength to kill the creature into which his beloved has turned.

Embittered and driven to despair, Kerrigan attacks Tarsonis, the capital of the Dominion, and, turning the planet’s defenses to dust, breaks into the palace of Arcturus Mengsk, where she almost dies from the very artifact that returned her to her human form. At the last second, as Mengsk is about to kill the helpless Kerrigan, Raynor appears and disarms Mengsk. Together, after so many years, they destroy the true culprit of millions of deaths and billions of destroyed destinies. At the end of the second part of StarCtaft 2, Raynor confirms that he loves Kerrigan and will always love her.

We are confident that James Raynor will play one of the key roles in the finale of StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void: which one depends solely on Blizzard.
