Фразовый глагол do - один из самых популярных в английском языке. Его, конечно, не так активно используют в устной речи, как, например, get или take. Но все же ни один англоговорящий человек не может позволить себе его не знать. И сегодня я хочу максимально подробно его с вами разобрать. Нас ждут самые используемые фразы, их перевод, а также предложения с примерами.

Многие из вас настолько привыкли, что глагол do означает «делать», что представить его в других формах становится невероятно сложно. Но ничего, мы это исправим. Давайте разберем варианты употребления глагола с примерами.

• Do up - ремонтировать, застегивать (одежду)

Mary, can you help your sister to do up? I cannot do it by myself. - Мэри, можешь помочь своей сестре застегнуться? Я сама не могу этого сделать.

Глаголы состоят из глагола и частицы :
глагол + наречие или глагол +предлог или глагол + наречие + предлог .
Значение фразовых глаголов обычно сильно отличается от значения исходных глаголов и предлогов/наречий.

Фразовые глаголы употребляются в основном в устной и неформальной речи. Изучение фразовых глаголов всегда вызывает массу трудностей, ведь в образовании фразовых глаголов нет определенных правил, к тому же многие фразовые глаголы кроме прямого имеют и метафорическое значение.

Часть фразовых глаголов является переходными (transitive) . Это означает, что они используются только вместе с объектом речи, другие можно использовать отдельно от объекта. Это непереходные фразовые глаголы (intransitive verbs) .

Также фразовые глаголы делятся на разделяемые (separable) , если между глаголом и частицей можно вставить объект, и неразделяемые (inseparable) .
Separable verb:
Правильно: Put on your coat.
Правильно: Put your coat on.
Inseparable verb:
Правильно: Get on a bus
Неправильно: Get a bus on

Английские фразовые глаголы с UP, их значения и примеры

Предлог UP в английском языке противоположен по значению предлогу .

Самый простой вариант использования предлога UP - указание направления движения (движение вверх, движение снизу вверх).

Come up - Подняться. Come up and enjoy the view from the tallest rooftop in the county.
Get up - Встать. She got up from the chair and walked to the door.
Go up - Повышаться/Подниматься. It is best to go up the mountain in the early morning.
Jack up - Поднять машину на подъемнике. Now I have to jack the car up, so I can change th e tyre.

Вы заметили, что во втором предложении появился предлог up. Тем, кто плохо знаком с фразовыми глаголами, наверняка почует неладное: при чем здесь up ? Как можно есть «вверх»? Да, действительно очень запутанная схема. Однако все становится на свои места, когда мы узнаем такое понятие как «фразовый глагол».

В первом предложении все понятно, оно переводится как «Ешь свой суп!». Второе же — «Доедай свой суп». Наречие up, входящее в состав фразового глагола, зачастую указывает на завершение действия. Еще один пример фразового глагола с предлогом up — «Button up your coat!». Эту фразу обычно говорят мамочки своим деткам, чтобы те застегивали свои куртки до конца — на все пуговицы.

Теперь еще один пример:

1. Helen has invited us to dinner but says we shouldn’t bother to dress up .
2. Helen has invited us to dinner but says we shouldn’t bother to dress .

В первом предложении говорится о том, что Хелен, пригласив их на обед, предупредила, что они могут особо не наряжаться, то есть прийти в повседневной одежде. Второе предложение может показаться ну очень странным, так как означает, что Хелен призывает гостей прийти к ней на ужин в чем мать родила. Вот видите, как всего 2 буквы могут кардинально изменить смысл предложения?

Посмотрим следующие примеры:

1. Andy went
2. Andy went up to his friend to tell him the news.

Опять же разница в этих двух предложениях визуально незначительная. Однако смысл при этом существенно отличается. В первом предложении Энди пошел к своему другу, чтобы рассказать ему новость. А во втором случае Энди не пришлось далеко идти, так как друг находился рядом. Он просто подошел к нему, чтобы сообщить ему новость.

Последний пример на сегодня:

1. I didn’t expect you to wait for me.
2. I didn’t expect you to wait up for me.

Эти предложения близки, но их перевод различается. Первое предложение означает: «Я не думал, что ты будешь дожидаться меня», а второе — «Я не ожидал, что ты не станешь ложиться спать в ожидании моего прихода». Аналогично переводится фразовый глагол sit up — не ложиться спать, засиживаться до поздней ночи, бодрствовать. Например: Mother, please, don’t sit up for me . — Мама, пожалуйста, не жди, пока я вернусь. Ложись спать.
