Among the many small tributaries of the Beggar, there is a small stream with an almost imperceptible flow of water, enclosed in a pipe with a diameter of just over a meter. It could be mistaken for a drainage or outlet for a street drain, but some old maps show that some kind of stream once flowed in that area. There would be nothing interesting in this fact if the stream did not cross the railroad. Of course, the intersection with the railway also did not say anything, but at least it gave hope that some old culvert tunnel had been preserved under the tracks. However, I did not experience any special illusions, hoping at best for an unusually shaped shell, but the place was still included in the "must be checked" list. Of course, I was not going to crawl along a narrow pipe from the very mouth to the railway, but I planned to look for hatches at the point of the proposed intersection. The first time we mitia_baban we arrived there last winter, but looking for a hatch under the snow, not knowing exactly where it is and whether it exists at all, was very inefficient :) Moreover, several found hatches froze and categorically refused to open - pulling them to no avail, we left with nothing. Next time we hatever remembered this place at the beginning of summer, riding around Moscow at night. Having approached the railway, we saw, not far from the place where the hatch was unsuccessfully opened in winter, the Mosvodostok emergency vehicle and a group of fitters performing "dances with a tambourine" near another hatch, which we had not previously noticed under the snow. The fitters obviously did not plan to complete their activities in the near future, therefore, after standing a little and looking, we went to the next location. The second attempt, although unsuccessful, was still not entirely in vain - the fitters involuntarily burned the hatch we needed, at least I was sure that they simply could not check anything else there.

"Tried twice, but God loves a trinity, okay, we'll have to play along with him" - is sung in a famous song, and finally we mitia_baban made a third attempt to reveal the secret of the stream and see what is there after all under the railway. Arriving at the place and opening the hatch burnt by fitters, we went down into a small modern cell. Aside from the railway, a concrete pipe with a diameter of no more than a meter with a meager flow of water went, and in the direction of the tracks there was a partition with a concrete ring at the bottom, into which it was quite possible to climb. Behind the partition, the old culvert tunnel continued, with a white stone base and a full-length brick vault. It turned out to be a very unexpected and pleasant find - of course, I was hoping for some kind of story, but I did not expect that in the upper reaches of such a small stream there would be a full-fledged high tunnel about a hundred meters long. The roof of the tunnel is plastered, but in some places the plaster has fallen off, and the brickwork can be seen very well. In general, the tunnel resembles, reduced by one and a half times, and at the end there are even sediments in the form of "beaches", the same as those in Neglinka, only in miniature.

By the way, this is not the only such tributary of the Beggar - there is another similar one, the mouth of which looks like a small storm drain, and behind it a collector of full diameter continues, with a section under the railway. Once I had high hopes for it, but the area under the tracks turned out to be concrete and uninteresting. I didn’t even shoot anything there, but someday, when there is nothing to do, maybe I will fill this gap.

The construction of a tunnel under the railway has begun, which is the main element of the second stage of the Western Bypass, the press service of the Sergiev Posad region reports.

As Oleg Alekseev, project manager of the contractor company, reported, now the workers are engaged in the creation of a subgrade and storm communications, they are starting to build a retaining wall and protective screens of the future overpass.

“All communications located along the railway have been moved, and today nothing prevents us from building a tunnel. It will be built under traffic, the trains on the site will slow down. Neither builders nor trains will interfere with each other,” said Oleg Alekseev.

The width of the tunnel will be more than 30 meters, the length - more than 50 meters. The roadway has two lanes in each direction. The length of the entire second stage of the "Western bypass" will be almost two kilometers. It will end with a roundabout at the intersection with Zagorskogo Street. Construction is expected to be completed by next fall.

In this article, we will share the experience of building tunnels under the railway, using special equipment.

What is the sequence of tunnel construction

  1. Excavation of land under the railway
  2. Strengthening slopes with Larsen sheet piles
  3. Assembling a metal bridge
  4. Dismantling sleepers and rails.
  5. Installation of the assembled metal bridge
  6. Installation of sleepers and rails.

For excavation of the earth we use special equipment - a mini excavator

Strengthening of the slopes will be carried out using the installation of the Larsen sheet pile. There are many different ways to make a sheet piling, it all depends on the soil and on the surrounding buildings. In our case, vibration pressing will be used, for these purposes we rent an excavator with attachments - a hydraulic vibratory driver.

The assembly of the railway bridge is carried out on site - the bridge consists of various metal sectors that are manufactured at the factory. Lifting and installation of the structure is carried out by means of a truck crane. We fix the bridge and the railway.

Digging deep into the tunnel is carried out according to the same technology as described above.

When excavating the soil and then moving it out of the tunnel, we use several mini excavators. The first mini excavator digs, the second moves the soil to another mini excavator, so along the chain, to an open space, where it is further loaded onto dump trucks and transported to a landfill for disposal.

Since the work is carried out in narrow and limited places, it is possible to attract and use equipment only with small dimensions.

For laying a tunnel, it is possible in our company, both for 1 shift and for a long time!
