New urengoy location. "My city

One of the young cities in Russia - Novy Urengoy - today shows stable growth and economic well-being. The gas capital of the country is distinguished by the specific characteristics of its population, this is due to the history, climate and characteristics of activities in the region.

Geography and climate

Located in the Yamal-Nenets district of the city is 221 square meters. km. The gas capital is located 2350 km from Moscow and 450 km from Salekhard. The city is located just 60 km from the Arctic Circle and lies on the left bank at its confluence with the Evo-Yakha River. The settlement is spread out on a flat shore. The rivers Tamchara-Yakha and Sede-Yakha flow through its territory, which divide the city into northern and southern parts. The lands around Urengoy are heavily swamped, and the expansion of the city's borders is difficult, but it still continues to gradually win back pieces of land from nature.

The population of Novy Urengoy lives in places with a harsh climate. Two climatic zones converge here: temperate and subarctic. The average annual temperature in the city is minus 4.7 degrees. The long, 9-month-old winter is very severe. The thermometer can drop to minus 45. In winter, there are often storms and snowstorms. The average winter temperature is around minus 20 degrees. Summer lasts only 35 days, while the air warms up to an average of +15 degrees. The city is located in the permafrost zone, in summer the soil thaws only to a depth of 1.5-2 meters. The shortest daylight hours in Novy Urengoy last just over an hour.

Story

Novy Urengoy, whose population lives in such difficult climatic conditions, appeared on the map in 1973. But before that, there was the village of Urengoy, not far from which a gas field was discovered in 1966. The settlement existed since 1949, the builders of the railway from Salekhard to Igarka lived in it. However, with the death of Stalin, this project stalled, and for some time the houses stood uninhabited. Then geologists settled in dilapidated barracks. And only with the beginning of the development of the field, the population begins to increase.

The first inhabitants of the new city were its builders, who set up a camp 100 km from the village of Urengoy and called it "New Urengoy". First of all, the workers carried out gas heating, and then began to build the first multi-storey buildings. Then a power plant, a bakery appeared, an airport was built in a year, and a railway line reached from Surgut two years later. In 1978, commercial gas production began. Large volumes of extraction of "blue fuel" ensured the rapid development of Novy Urengoy.

Already in 1980, the settlement received the official status of the city. In 1981, the city was awarded the title of the All-Union Komsomol construction site, many young people from all over the country came here. In 1983, the Urengoy - Pomary - Uzhgorod gas pipeline was launched, which opened the way for Russian gas to Western Europe. In the 90s, private capital began to invest in the region, and this had a positive effect on the development of the city. In 2004, the city "swallowed" the villages of Korotchaevo and Limbyakha. Since that time, Novy Urengoy has become the longest city in the world - its length is more than 80 km.

Administrative-territorial division

The official division of the city was carried out according to a simple geographical principle, the city includes such areas as the Northern Residential, Northern Industrial Zone, Southern Residential, Western Industrial Zone and Eastern Industrial Zone. The population of Novy Urengoy conditionally divides the city into two parts: "south" and "north". In the districts, such constituent components as Student, Optimist, Creators, Star, Olympic, Rainbow, Nadezhda, Druzhba, Yagelny microdistricts are distinguished. In total, today there are 32 microdistricts in the city, as well as 5 settlements.

City infrastructure

The city of Novy Urengoy was built according to modern standards, there are wide avenues, good roads. The population of Novy Urengoy is fully provided with service enterprises and cultural institutions necessary for life. There are 7 branches of higher educational institutions, 23 secondary educational institutions. The cultural needs of the population are satisfied by an art museum and several cinemas. Transport links are well developed here, this is a city in which there are almost no traffic jams. The airport, railway and river transport provide a good connection of the region with other parts of the country. The population of Novy Urengoy is fully provided with medical care; there are 11 medical institutions in the city with a good level of qualification of doctors. Sports and physical education are highly respected by the residents of the city, 17 sports facilities allow 25 thousand people to regularly engage in various types of physical activity.

Population dynamics

Systematic observations of the number of inhabitants in the city have been conducted since 1979. In general, Novy Urengoy, whose population is almost always growing, shows good development. For the entire observation period, three points of decline in numbers were noted. This is the time from 1996 to 2000, when the negative dynamics of the population was recorded throughout the country. The second noticeable decline occurred in 2010, when the number of city residents decreased by 14 thousand people. The third period with negative dynamics is observed today, it began in 2014, and so far the authorities have not been able to change the situation. At the beginning of 2016, the number of inhabitants of Novy Urengoy was 111,163 people. Due to the large extent of the urban area, the population density indicator here is quite low - 470 people per 1 sq. km. km.

Ethnic composition and language

Novy Urengoy is a multinational city. Due to the fact that the settlement was formed at the expense of visitors from different parts of the country, a somewhat different ethnic situation has developed here than in many regions of Russia. Thus, the population of Novy Urengoy, who consider themselves Russians, is 64%. Almost 11% identified themselves as Ukrainians during the census. 5% of the total number of inhabitants are Tatars, 2.6% - Nogais, 2% - Kumyks and Azerbaijanis, 1.7% - Bashkirs. The remaining ethnic groups account for less than 1% each. Despite such ethnic diversity, the main, if not the only, language of communication in the region is Russian.

Sex and age characteristics of the population

In Russia, on average, everywhere the number of men is inferior to the number of women. Novy Urengoy, whose population has specific characteristics, fits into this trend, but the average preponderance is about 1.02 (49.3% of men and 50.7% of women), while in the country the proportion of women and men is 1.2 -1.4.

In terms of age characteristics, the region also differs from the general Russian situation. This is a city with a large number of minors, 23% of the population are children under 15 years old. 19% of the population are residents older than working age. Thus, the dependency ratio for each able-bodied resident of the city is 1.4, which is lower than in many regions of the country.

Demographics of Novy Urengoy

Birth and death rates are the most important demographic indicators of the socio-economic development of the region. In Novy Urengoy, the birth rate is 15.4 per thousand people. And the mortality rate today rests on the indicator of 3.8 for every thousand people. The average age of a city dweller is 36 years. Thus, the population of the city of Novy Urengoy demonstrates a natural increase, and this allows us to classify it as a growing, rejuvenating type of settlements, while in the country, for the most part, mortality overtakes the birth rate. However, in terms of life expectancy, the region is not prosperous; on average, residents of Novy Urengoy live less than other Russians by 2-3 years.

Socio-economic development of Novy Urengoy

The region is characterized by a high level of development, which is facilitated by stable work on extracting gas from the bowels of the Earth. The main occupations of the population of Novy Urengoy are work in the gas production and gas transportation industries. The region accounts for about 75% of all gas produced in the country. About a thousand different enterprises operate in the fuel and energy industry of Novy Urengoy.

Also, the city's economy is developing steadily due to the service sector. Novy Urengoy has its own enterprises for the production of dairy, confectionery and meat products. Service companies also make up a well-growing segment of the local market. Retail trade provides the highest profit and high employment. Novy Urengoy is well endowed with socially significant enterprises and has fairly high rates of average wages. All this makes the city an attractive place to live and have children.

Employment

The unemployment situation is monitored by the Employment Center of Novy Urengoy. The organization has recorded an extremely low unemployment rate for many years in a row, it is 0.5-0.6%, while the national average is 4.5%. The Employment Center (Novy Urengoy) notes that the need for workers in the city is never fully satisfied, there are always at least 15,000 vacancies. It is difficult to find a job for people with rare specialties, such as winemakers, and women over 35 with one or two higher educations experience some difficulty in finding work in their specialty.

Story

In 1949, by order of Stalin, the construction of the transpolar railway Salekhard - Igarka began in the subpolar tundra. The road was built by tens of thousands of people, who, for the most part, were prisoners of the Gulag. At the former trading post Urengoy, the builders planned to stay for a long time. However, after the death of Stalin, the work was curtailed, the road to the beginning of the 60s turned out to be useless and was called "dead". The image of this branch, until recently, could be seen on the map of the railway tracks, located on one of the walls of the railway station in Tyumen

The 501st and 503rd construction sites were not mentioned anywhere for a long time, but the work of the builders still turned out to be not in vain, it helped seismic prospectors and drillers to discover the Urengoy fields, helped to equip them at a faster pace. In January 1966, the seismic station V. Tsybenko, which was the pioneer of the Urengoy structure, occupied the barracks of the abandoned prison camp of the 503rd construction site.

A little about the city of Novy Urengoy

Novy Urengoy is one of the few cities in the Russian Federation that surpasses in industrial terms and in population the administrative center of the subject of the federation, the city of Salekhard.

The city-forming industry is the extraction and transportation of natural gas. There are three city-forming enterprises in the city: Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy, Gazprom Dobycha Yamburg, Burgaz (Tyumenburgaz) and others: Nortgaz, Gazprom transgaz Yugorsk, which are part of OAO Gazprom.

New Urengoy, only 30 years old, during this time a large city was built, with constantly expanding "import" quarters, for example: Turkish, and therefore it seems that it is much older.

Like in other cities, Urengoy has infrastructure, namely: a hospital (very large and good), urban transport (municipal, private minibuses and taxis), boiler houses in each microdistrict or part of the city (there are only 2 of them: southern and northern, separates their small river), etc.

There are a lot of schools, gymnasiums (the schools are simply magnificent, with swimming pools, with equipment for chemistry and biology classrooms), shops (from ordinary shops to representatives of Eldorado, Expert, etc.), an airport, a railway station (a large good one is being built now railway station), cinema, markets (covered), etc.

Housing in Novy Urengoy

In new Urengoy, housing is divided into 3 types:

  • capital housing

These are ordinary 5 - 9-storey houses, brick and panel. I won’t talk about buying a home, so as not to immediately scare away yours, while we talk about renting.

1 room apartments- from 18 to 22 thousand rubles / month. The rental price depends on the completeness of the apartment. Naturally, the better the equipment: washing and dishwasher, linen, dishes, etc., the higher the rent. But such prices are designed more for seconded employees. The enterprise pays for them, because it's only for a while.

2 room apartments- from 25 to 27 thousand rubles / month. Everything is the same as with one-room apartments, the better the equipment, the more expensive the rent.

3 room apartments- from 30 to 32 thousand rubles / month. Such apartments are needed, but not for everyone, especially if the equipment is at the European level. In this case, the rental price reaches 50 thousand rubles per month. Most likely, such housing is rented by the "Big Bosses" when they arrive with checks.

Utility bills are already included in the apartment rental price, except for: electricity, telephone, intercom, garbage.

Room in an apartment- from 10 to 14 thousand rubles / month. Those. you live with the hostess/owners and regularly pay for inexpensive housing.

  • pieces of wood

These are old 2-storey houses, they do not look very good, but you can live. True, the audibility is high, but you live separately.

2 rooms- from 18 to 22 thousand rubles / month. A friend of mine lives in one of these apartments. He recently arrived at north to work, later moved his wife. Now they work together, she is in the hospital (masseur), he is in the municipal ATP. Conditions in the apartment are good, warm, comfortable, hot water, bath, etc.

  • Dormitories

There are many hostels in Novy Urengoy, some of them family. The conditions are the same as in an ordinary hostel, I just want to add that the surroundings are clean, tidy, there is no "debauchery", as well as hot water. The only thing is the kitchen and the shower are shared, but for a young family it is quite an acceptable option. The price in the city varies a little, from 270 to 340 rubles per day.

Upon arrival, temporary registration is not difficult. If you have already found a job, then you can ask the HR department to help with registration, as they already know this process like “their 5 fingers”.

If you check into a hostel, the commandant will register you herself and everything will be in order.

Nutrition

I will not post a price list here, I will simply say - almost all products are needed more expensive from 20% to 120%. For example, bread - from 25 rubles. (now I have 12 rubles).

Now back to the question: "is there any point in moving to live in Novy Urengoy." To this question I will answer: "YES".

To come to Novy Urengoy and immediately get a job in a good organization with a high level of salaries, 99 percent is impossible. As in any other city, we find out through acquaintances, friends, relatives that such and such a specialist is required in such and such an organization, and we go and try to get a job.

This is what happens here too, when you start working in Novy Urengoy in any organization, a circle of acquaintances will appear through whom you will be able to get a job in an organization with a higher salary and better conditions in your opinion.

Because Novy Urengoy is an industrial city; qualified specialists of working and technical specialties are in demand there. For example, if you are a turner or a gas welder, then in addition to your main job, you will definitely have private orders, the fulfillment of which will be an increase of + 30-50% to your basic salary.

Let's take the example that I described above - my friends. The wife got a job as a massage therapist in the city hospital, after working for 2 months, she began to take patients at home for individual programs. Her husband had to buy some kind of specialized massage chair-bed that she needed in her work, but these costs will pay off quickly, because. three hourly sessions cost 1500 rubles. For the future, they plan to buy a small truck (like a Gazelle) and engage in private transportation, because. There, this service is in demand and brings good earnings.

Here is another example, a year and a half ago, we sent a specialist to work in the north. In the Krasnodar Territory, he worked as a computer science teacher at a secondary school in a small village, a Civil Engineer by education, and had experience in welding. They arranged him as a gas welder, in a small organization, with a salary of about 30 thousand rubles per month. After working for 1 year on the basis of an enterprise in Novy Urengoy, without complaints and with positive reviews, he was appointed Foreman with a good salary. But, even when he worked as a welder, he was satisfied with the salary, because. he was often approached with orders by private traders, which brought additional income.

Other examples could be given, but why? If your goal is to improve your own life, then you will make every effort to achieve prosperity. We all know that “All at once” will not work, and the stairs to your success are gradual steps.

As a result, I will give the expression known to everyone: “If you want to live, know how to spin”, but the main thing is that there is a financial return, and in Novy Urengoy there are all opportunities for this.

Historical outline

It arose in connection with the development of the Urengoy gas condensate field.

September 22, 1973 is considered the day of the founding of Novy Urengoy. On this day, geologists hammered a peg with a sign "New Urengoy" at the work site. In 1975, when the gas workers completed the drilling of the first production well, Novy Urengoy was registered as a settlement. In 1975, the airport was built and the first technical flight was made. In 1977, the Surgut - Novy Urengoy railway was laid.

City since 06/16/1980. The new definition in the name is associated with the existence of the working settlement of Urengoy, which arose somewhat earlier, on the right bank of the river. Pur, east of Novy Urengoy, almost 100 km. Toponym Urengoy is explained as Nenets "deaf, dense".

Since 1984, Novy Urengoy gas began to flow to Europe through the Urengoy - Pomary - Uzhgorod gas pipeline.

You may have heard of such a Russian city as Novy Urengoy: someone has been there passing through, and some live on a permanent basis today. However, if you ask a person to talk about this locality and even show its location on the map, most will fall into a stupor. To prevent this from happening, in this article we will tell you everything about Novy Urengoy: what region it belongs to, where it is located, what its history is and what both visiting tourists and indigenous people can pay attention to here.

One of the cities of Western Siberia: general information

The city of Novy Urengoy - what region does it belong to? To the Tyumen, which, in turn, is an integral unit of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The city of Novy Urengoy is the largest settlement in the district and one of the few that overtake the administrative center of its subject both in terms of industrial potential and population (we are talking about comparison with Salekhard). The city considered in this article is 450 kilometers to the east from the latter; with Moscow it, located in relation to the capital in the northeast, is separated by 2,350 kilometers. In addition, the inhabitants of the city of Novy Urengoy, unlike Muscovites, live in a different time zone: for example, the first traditionally celebrate the New Year and other holidays 2 hours earlier. Today, about 116 thousand people live in the city. Being a key link in the largest gas-bearing region, Novy Urengoy, whose location map will be presented below, is unofficially called the gas producing capital of the country.

Surrounding area

On the map, Novy Urengoy is located on the banks of the Evo-Yakha River, which is a tributary of the Pura. Two other rapids also flow in the city: these are Sede-Yakha and Tamchara-Yakha, which conditionally divide the settlement into the Northern and Southern parts. The territory of urban areas is surrounded on all sides by the Purovsky district and heavily swampy areas. In total, Novy Urengoy (which region the city belongs to and what its general current position is has already been described above) covers an area of 113 square kilometers. The Arctic Circle already begins 60 kilometers north of it.

Climatic conditions

So, if it has now been clarified to which region Novy Urengoy belongs, it is time to move on to an analysis of provisions that are more practical for a person - for example, what is the situation with the weather and average temperatures? The climate of the city can be characterized as sharply continental. What does this mean? Since this settlement is located at the intersection of 2 climatic zones of the forest-tundra zone, subarctic and temperate, there is a severe winter here, the duration of which reaches 9 months, and a cool summer, lingering on average only for a period of just over 1 month. Important factors influencing weather conditions and shaping the climatic situation include the presence of permafrost, the proximity of the city to the sea, as well as the continuous circulation of Atlantic air masses. The average January temperature is -21.7 degrees, June - +9.1; at the same time, the relative humidity of the air is 78%, and the average wind speed reaches only 3.4 m/s. Frequent temperature fluctuations in Novy Urengoy (a map of Russia helps to analyze all the conditions and factors that shape the climate) are accompanied by blizzards, snowstorms, snowstorms. Most of the flat terrain of the settlement is bound by permafrost ice, which in the summer thaws only to a depth of 1 to 2 meters!

The beginning of the story

It is a pity that the facts about the development of cities and, in particular, Novy Urengoy, are not indicated on the map of Russia - and there is not enough space, and the purpose of these reference books is different. Few people would take it into their heads to study the historical formation of this particular settlement, and in vain! The history of the city reveals many interesting things: from the very beginning it was closely intertwined with the development of the Urengoy gas field, discovered in June 1966. However, in fact, the roots of the formation of the city must be sought even earlier, namely in 1949, when, by order of Stalin, the construction of a transpolar railway line began in the subpolar tundra zone for trains to run along the Salekhard - Igarka route. To linger at the former trading post of Urengoy was not part of the plans of the builders, who for the most part belonged to the rest of the thousands of camp prisoners sent to lay the road. However, Stalin died, the construction work was curtailed and forgotten, the constructed tracks were called “dead”, but for Urengoy it was a turning point: it was the once unfinished railway forks that helped drillers and seismic explorers discover deposits in these lands and quickly equip them. In January 1966, a new Urengoy structure was already opened here. The pioneer team was the company of employees of the seismic station V. Tsybenko, who occupied the barracks of the once abandoned camp, where GULAG prisoners used to live.

Way forward

Subsequently, active mining continued here: in June 1966, foreman V. Polupanov and his team drilled the first exploration well. It was after this that a footnote appeared on the map of the country, pointing to the unique natural gas. September 1973 was marked by the fact that on the site of the city that did not yet exist at that time, a peg was driven in with a sign and a symbolic inscription on it: “New Urengoy” (we, the descendants, now know where the city is located). In December, the construction of a settlement familiar to Russians today began. The settlement developed rapidly, which was associated with an increase in the activity of the gas produced in it. In 1980, Novy Urengoy, previously not considered a city (which region this place belongs to and what its historical formation is, now everyone can answer) finally received the long-awaited status and was now called a city of district significance! Since 1984, gas from here began to be exported to Western Europe using the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline built in 1983.

In November 1984, the village of Korotchaevo passed into submission to Novy Urengoy and the city council representing it at the administrative level, and in May 1988, the village of Limbyakha. As a municipal entity, Novy Urengoy was formed only in January 1996 with reference to one of the relevant laws of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and in 2004 the above-mentioned settlements ceased to exist as independent administrative-territorial elements and became part of the city of Novy Urengoy. As a result, the city with a length of 80 km has become one of the longest in the world!

Serious measures

An interesting fact is that in 2012 the city actually turned into a closed city, given that there was no actual legal basis for this. Entry into the city could only be carried out with a special pass. Such drastic measures were needed because the crime rate in this territory approached a critically high value. Various terrorist organizations were active here, in connection with which the situation had to be resolved on an emergency basis. There is also an unconfirmed hypothesis that such a practice of a pass system was introduced to regulate the migration of the population, limiting the internal and external "turnover" of residents. Be that as it may, such a system in Urengoy, whose name in translation from one of the local Nenets dialects means “dead place”, lasted about six months and then was abolished.

Industry

Novy Urengoy, being a fairly young city, manages to show extraordinary industrial potential. So, within the settlement there are 3 whales of the gas production industry, each of which is a subsidiary of Gazprom: Tyumenburgaz, Yamburggazodobycha and Urengoygazprom. They account for about 74% of all gas produced in the country! Construction work on the resumption of railway lines is being carried out by the Yamal Railway Company. 80% of river traffic falls on the Urengoy river port, which has dozens of ferries and tractors.

Attractions

Of the key places in Novy Urengoy, a map with the streets of which will be offered below, one can single out the Museum of Fine Arts, a multifunctional, modern and technological station commissioned in 2015, the largest fountain in the Far North, visually resembling a sail. On the roof of the Helicopter shopping center, which is designed in eye-catching colors, visitors can see a model of a real aircraft rotorcraft. The city also has monuments and temples - real examples of architectural art and architecture (for example, the Cathedral of the Epiphany built in 2015, which is the tallest building in the city).

Education

There are many universities operating on the territory of Novy Urengoy, including:
