Having zealously labored according to Christ, / gaining courage in gray hair, martyr Ermea, / trampling lawless evil intentions with Christ’s power, / from enchanting drinks, abide unharmed, calling: // God is with me, and no one is against me.

Translation: diligently in Christ, whitened with gray hair, you gained courage, martyr Hermias, to trample on the evil intentions of the pagans with the power of Christ, having drunk a poisonous drink from the sorcerer, you remained unharmed, crying out: “God is with me and no one is against me.”

"He who endures to the end shall be saved"() . Do we have anything to endure? No one is lacking in this. The field of patience is wide for everyone; therefore, salvation is at our fingertips. Endure everything to the end, and you will be saved. It is necessary, however, to endure skillfully, otherwise you can endure and get no benefit.

First, observe the holy faith, and lead an impeccable life according to faith; every sin that occurs, cleanse it immediately by repentance.

Secondly, accept everything that you have to endure as from the hand of God, remembering firmly that nothing happens without the will of God.

Thirdly, believing that everything that comes from the Lord is sent by Him for the good of our souls, sincerely thank God for everything, give thanks both for sorrows and for comforts.

Fourthly, love sorrow for the sake of its great salvation, and arouse in yourself a thirst for it, as a drink, although bitter, but healing.

Fifthly, keep in mind that when trouble comes, you will not throw it off like tight clothes; must be transferred. Whether you endure it like a Christian or not like a Christian, it is still inevitable to endure it; so it is better to endure in a Christian way. Murmuring does not relieve trouble, but only makes it heavier; and humble obedience to the determinations of God's Providence and complacency take away the burden from troubles.

Sixthly, realize yourself standing still and not such a disaster - realize that if the Lord wanted to deal with you in all truth, then such a disaster should have been sent to you.

Seventh, pray most of all, and the merciful Lord will give you a strength of spirit, in which, while others will marvel at your troubles, it will seem to you that there is nothing to endure.

The Lord said to His disciples, "Behold, I am sending you like sheep among wolves." And we always forget about it, we show our teeth, we want to fight for some imaginary justice in relation to ourselves, as if it could be on this earth. A pointless waste of time. Therefore, the Lord said: always remember that the world is wolves, and you are sheep. If you want to be a Christian...

Question: Why should I confess in the presence of a priest, if I can do it directly to God?

Answer: one does not exclude the other. Confession of sin consists of 3 stages:

  1. as soon as he realized the sin - directly to God;
  2. summing up the results of the day - directly to God (at the evening prayer rule);
  3. in the Sacrament of Confession - directly to God with the testimony of the priest (getting permission from sin). God Himself () gave His apostles, and then, through, bishops and priests, the opportunity to resolve Christians from sins. Therefore, we can confess in any form and to anyone, but it is established from priests and bishops to receive permission from sins.

P.S. Practice shows that the one who asks such a question, in reality, does not directly confess to God.

For active religious activity and suspicion of anti-Soviet agitation, both brothers and their father were arrested late in the evening, and the next day they were cynically shot, despite numerous protests from believers.

The tradition of giving newborn children names according to the holy calendar appeared in Russia with the adoption of the Orthodox faith. According to church canons, a child is a creation of God, who, with the birth of a baby, already determines a Guardian Angel for him.
