I can't always study badly. Undereducated? Up to a third of applicants cannot study at universities

Psychologist's answer.

Hello Nikita. The desire to put off important things as late as possible in psychology is called procrastination.“Procrastination can cause stress, guilt, loss of productivity, dissatisfaction with others due to non-fulfillment of obligations. The combination of these feelings and overexpenditure (first on secondary tasks and dealing with growing anxiety, then on work at a rush pace) can provoke further procrastination. Why procastination occurs: 1) A person is worried that he will not be able to do important work, will show incompetence, will not live up to expectations, and therefore unconsciously tries to delay the moment when he will have to present its results. 2) The procrastinator limits himself because of a subconscious fear of becoming successful, standing out from the crowd and showing himself better than others (becoming, for example, a possible object of excessive demands, criticism, envy). 3) In addition, we are annoyed by imposed roles, programs, plans, and we put things off in order to demonstrate (to others, leaders, the world) our self-reliance and ability to act in accordance with our own decision. Being subject to external pressure, we come into conflict with the masses or leadership. 4) The subjective utility of an action (Utility), which determines a person’s desire to perform it, depends on four parameters: confidence in success (Expectancy), value, that is, the expected reward ( Value), the time until completion (Delay) and the level of impatience, that is, the sensitivity to delays (G). A person considers a business more useful if he is confident in its successful completion and expects a large reward based on its results. On the contrary, things that are subjectively less useful seem to be cases that still have a lot of time left to complete.

What follows from this? Need to find your personal interest(not because teachers, parents or your girlfriend want it from you) in the work you are doing. It doesn't matter how your teachers rate it or how your classmates react. “The level of procrastination is the lower, the greater the expectations from the case and the more valuable its results are for the person personally. In other words, the best work is done when there are high expectations and self-interest in relation to it, and the time to achieve is reduced to a minimum.

Think about what gives you such a valuable and necessary, useful postponing of studies for later? In addition to the fact that you are worried and feel remorse. How else can you get these benefits?

It also helps to fight procastation. time management. Analysis and planning of the execution of the time of the necessary work. In general, what can I recommend to you, where to start. For example, you have a week of time left - do not set yourself the task of completing the term paper overnight or in one day. As they say, “an elephant needs to be eaten by the hour”, and “a bitter pill in small doses, otherwise the desire to drink it will completely disappear.” Agree with yourself that this afternoon or evening you will devote an hour of time to the course project - no more (!), And then you will do what you are interested in. (Be sure to praise yourself for the work done or here is the part that you did today, no matter how much time it takes you) And in order not to worry, not to “bite” yourself for doing nothing in the remaining time, you exactly one hour to complete the coursework. And then do whatever your heart desires, and with a clear conscience. If you count, then in a week for an hour there will be just one full night that you planned to spend on the project.

And another moment. Nikita, how do you imagine your future after graduation? Perhaps you do not want to work in the specialty that you get. Then postponing the project and, in general, studying is in your favor. Unconsciously, this is what you want. And here even time management is powerless. You know what you want (not to work in this specialty) and you don’t need to “break”, remake yourself! Think about who you would like to work and what specialty to get if you had a choice. In fact, you have it - give up what you are not interested in and switch to what suits your interests. Well, let you be on the 5th course. Studying is just flowers, ahead of you is work, where you will also have to force yourself to do unloved work. So the sooner you stop and change direction, the better. Or, right now, think, decide for yourself what related, more suitable job you can find with this education or get another specialty after graduating from this one. And then your current training is already clearly in your personal interests. Maybe this particular term paper is not so interesting - but it is a step, one more step that will lead you to your dream, the goals that you have chosen for yourself.

P.S. And now there is a lot of good literature about procrastination and time management, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with it in more detail.

“How did you leave? Why?!" - I hear this phrase every time I try to answer the question of why I am not at the university now. “Something bad must have happened to you, because of which you had to leave, right?” Of course, after all, no one just leaves the university, right? Or not?

Realizing that, in addition to such a reaction, my departure will not cause anything else, I try not to answer this question or avoid discussions, because everyone considers it their duty to tell me that I did wrong. Over time, I realized that there is no point in being ashamed of my decision, especially if I think that I did 100% right.

Therefore, I want to tell you why the university in its present state is not what I, you and your children need.

We want to be like the rest

Think about what happens in schools to children who wear glasses or try to do well in school. At best, they will not be accepted into the company of "cool", at worst, the main goal of this company will be to make their life unbearable. But, of course, as they like to say? "They're kids, they don't understand." Well, they don't understand.

So, from childhood, we want to be like the rest. What do "everyone else" do after school? Trying to get into the university. Preferably on a budget. If this succeeds, the maximum goal is achieved. If not, then parents will have to spend thousands of dollars on your education, or choose a simpler educational institution - a technical school or a fashion college, which, in fact, is the same technical school.

The time begins, which is spoken of as the best time in a person's life, meaning by this, of course, not studying. But rather, that you will drink (a lot), communicate with the opposite sex and sometimes go to classes, trying to sit out at least half. After re-reading this paragraph, I realized that it does not sound so bad.

And for most, that's enough. They forget about how much time goes into the void, how much money is spent on studies that do not bring any benefit. For example, I did not study at the most expensive university in Ukraine, and during this time 7,000 dollars were spent on my studies alone. I think this is the biggest investment my parents have made in me. Was she justified? Alas.

University studies are not the only way

How many courses could I take with that money? Courses of real professionals who have devoted decades to their work, who love what they do and are ready to share useful knowledge. How many books could you buy? I will finish with banal questions, you already know the answer.

Studying at a university no longer guarantees professional success in the future.

One reason for this is motivation. When we do what we like, we are guided by . That is, we like the process itself. Money, encouragement or praise fade into the background. After all, you see, it is much more pleasant to do business and enjoy not only the reward, but also the process itself.

Unfortunately, the university is going in a completely different direction. Study implies boredom, monotony and lack of interest, all for the sake of an ephemeral number in a paper magazine. And if these ephemeral numbers are good, then in five years you can get an ephemeral red plastic piece of paper. This is worth living for.

This is akin to when you drink cola for a long time and forget that you can quench your thirst with water. Or when you drive a car for a long time and forget that you can walk from work to a cafe. It's the same with the university.

We forget that the learning process itself, and then the work itself, can be pleasant.

I have a friend who also dropped out of university. Four years of study at the university made it possible to understand that he wanted something else. In his case, it's design. Only six months of intensive self-study, several unsuccessful attempts to get a job, and he still works as a web designer. This is not yet the company of his dreams, but definitely one of the steps on the road to it. This example is very inspiring.

It does not mean that you should close yourself in a room and not contact other people. Seminars, conferences, people with similar interests - you have a huge number of ways to communicate with interesting people, and most importantly - learn. When you train not for a reward in the future, but simply because you enjoy it, the process itself is insanely addictive.

I was finally able to articulate what I dislike the most about university:

There is no passion in studying at the university.

Moreover, if you come there with your passion, it will surely be taken away from you. Universities in their current state kill the desire to learn. This even applies to medicine, which the defenders of standard education are so fond of citing as an example. In my city, the medical university has long earned a reputation as the most bribe-taking educational institution. Keep this in mind when you come to an appointment with a young specialist.

Wouldn't it be more logical to choose interesting subjects yourself? But no, the financier needs to be taught philosophy, the physician - the history of economic thought, and the architect - chemistry. Broadening one's horizons - that's what it's called? I do not want to expand my horizons with useless knowledge multiplied by the subjectivity of the teacher.

By learning on your own, you can choose your own path.

Do you want to learn English? You can create a program that includes watching movies in the original with subtitles, reading English books, learning new words from articles on the Internet, and using Duolingo. This is much better than sitting with Golitsinsky's textbook every day, from which nausea attacks begin to appear over time.

With the advent of services such as, it becomes clear that something needs to be changed in the current education system. Self-education makes it possible to feel that your knowledge is useful and useful in real life. You will not always go forward, sometimes you will have to radically change something, but it is still a thousand times better.

Getting a university degree is no longer a safe and far from the most interesting way of life. Don't try to be like others, be special and forget that university is the only way. There are others.

I didn’t pass the exam. I prepared, but I didn’t know everything. And that's exactly what happened. And others passed, although they knew less than me. I don’t want to live like this anymore, others are lucky, but I never ... Without luck in this life it’s very difficult ... I really want to go home, but I got stuck until the end of the session in this dead foreign city where I have no one. .. I can't teach anymore... I'm dead tired.. Nobody loves me and it seems to me that I won't close this session. I feel sorry for my dad, who works and sends me money, and I waste it mediocrely.... and no good from me.... Why litter this land then, no one even considers me a person!!! And I wanted to live, I treated everyone very well .... Why are they wiping their feet on me!? I don't want to go on like this... everyone in this world is freaks who live only for themselves! The main thing for them is to humiliate you, once again put pressure on a sore spot ... Point out that you are lonely and mediocre! I want to kill myself!

Sophia, I had a similar condition at the university, you only have one debt, and in my first year I had already FOUR
DEBT due to illness, and my parents spread rot, I had nightmares, I thought everyone would be kicked out of the university, and then I passed it very well for everything
easy and fast. Sonechka, these debts are really such a trifle! You now need to rest for a few days, go to
nature, breathe fresh air, go to the cinema, in general, be distracted! And then with renewed vigor to learn what is not
finish learning, and repeat what you learned last time. Do not think. that people are all evil and everyone is trying to offend you with something,
there are a lot of good people who can help and empathize! At the moment you are studying, not your father's money
you are mediocrely eating away, one exam that has not been passed is not an indicator of mediocrity! We all have one duty at the university
rejoiced that at least one, not several! Sonechka, rest, sleep and go again! And everything will work out!!!

Sonic!
What are you talking about yourself! You study, you do business. Whatever one may say, it is very important to get an education now!
Well, you didn’t pass one exam - you retake it, it’s okay, with whom it doesn’t happen. I graduated from the university 1.5 years ago, I know firsthand how difficult it is to study. We always joked with the group: who said that students live happily from session to session! Nothing like this! How many control, term papers, and everything else was ... sleepless nights. But it must be endured, just endured. And it’s better to take it easy on the successes and failures in your studies. It happens at any exam - you learn everything, but you only need to tell one thing, and this is how they judge whether you know the subject or not. Such a system, there is nothing to be done. It always seemed to me that the main thing is to get knowledge, and not 5 in the record book, although there are such subjects where, if only they put something positive in the record book :)
In addition to these exams, there are so many beautiful things in life !!! Just a little bit left, soon you will go home for the holidays!!!
Write cheat sheets, take breaks in your studies, be sure to go out for a walk every day! Persuade yourself: now I’ll teach a little, and then I’ll read my favorite book, eat ice cream :)

Quiet, quiet, quiet, Sonechka. What are you talking about, dear!
I quote and ask just one question:
"No one loves me" - And dad?
"No one even considers me a person" - And dad?
"Why are they wiping their feet on me!?" - Dad too?
"everyone in this world is freaks who live only for themselves!" - and dad?
"The main thing for them is to humiliate you, once again put pressure on a sore spot..." - Is your dad the same?
"Indicate that you are lonely and mediocre!" - And dad points? About total loneliness. - And dad?
"I want to commit suicide!" - What about dad?

Elena, age: 56 / 01/15/2014

Sophia, that's right, take a break, and praying to God, learn everything, and retake it! You are worried about your parents, about your dad, but what, it would be better for him to take the corpse of his daughter from a foreign city? If the suicide was definitely wasted money, and if not, learn everything, retake, learn, find a job and help your parents - then the parents had wonderful "investments" in their daughter! Sophia, stop it, have a rest, for your studies, retake it and that's it !!! We all have dark streaks in our lives. And you can do it! And there are good people! And you, for sure, are cute to someone! Help of God!

Elena, age: 36 / 01/15/2014

Sophia, failing an exam is not the end of your life! I hope you understand perfectly well that the exam is a game of Russian roulette, you can get two, knowing almost everything, or get five, knowing almost nothing. I also failed exams when I studied at the university, and not even once, once I almost got a commission, I didn’t allow myself to give up, although it was so bad and it seemed to me that I knew the material for the exam and I was unfairly given a deuce although others know no more than me. I spent all the holidays preparing for the next retake and then passed! Bypassing the retakes and failures, I received a diploma and, behold, the Lord is merciful, he sent me a good job, which my classmates can only dream of. Get some rest, switch off from this negativity, go for a walk, go to the temple, pray to God. It will get easier, trust me. And then calmly, without panic, go over all the material for the exam again, carefully delving into it. The Lord sent you a test in order to overcome it, and you will overcome it and become even stronger. Necessarily! Raise your self-esteem, then it will not seem that no one loves you. There are a lot of good people, don't make any demands on anyone, you can't change the world, just change your attitude towards people and immediately the majority will become good people for you.

Artyom, age: 01/22/2014

Failing an exam is unpleasant, but it's not the end of life! Life is one big test, and you have to be persistent.

Regarding "and no good from me ...." - it is important to get an education, and you understand this (in my case, at least) only after graduation from the university.

Kirill, age: 24 / 15.01.2014

In my third year, in my opinion, I had a debt. I also failed the exam. Everyone used cheat sheets, but it was me who caught me :-) University was going on! Well, nothing, I retaken it. Well, then, a year later, I graduated from the university. Now I remember this story with a slight smile. So don’t hang your nose, Sonechka!

Aigul, age: 36 / 01/15/2014

This is a challenge. No matter what, do not harbor negativity towards obstacles and society. Work harder, rot your line.

gonabe, age: 01/27/2014

Sophia, you know, you need to understand one thing - you are created in the image and likeness of God, and when you don’t love yourself, it means you don’t love Him either. You have been given your body, your mind, your soul - and it is your duty to love it. You need to understand that you are unique, you are already perfect, and you need to accept and defend this position for yourself. People are just a reflection of what we think of ourselves, so when you love yourself, then other people will love and you will not consider them freaks. Well, it also helps to love yourself (it helped me a lot):
stop terrorizing yourself with your thoughts, stop torturing yourself and inventing horror stories. Decide for yourself that you won't do it again.
And of course, prayers, the Church - and everything will change for sure!

Hello! I am currently studying at a foreign university in German. I graduated from my university perfectly, I didn’t even have a single B, because I liked what I taught, I liked coming to the exam with knowledge, I liked to easily answer any question. I learned a lot, retelling everything aloud to myself. But it happened to me to enter the university again abroad (I married a foreigner) to my faculty of law. I was assigned to the level of a master, they took into account the grades in my diploma). The master is a level above the bachelor, which assumes a wealth of knowledge of foreign law. I didn’t have it. There are completely different requirements, in order to pass a minimum mark of 4 points (the maximum is 6 points, that a mark below 4 is considered a complete failure and complete failure), you need to know EVERYTHING. Of course, it is easier for native speakers to learn, and I often have a situation that I teach, I teach, and I don’t pass it here, because. I get a grade below 4, or I pass, but not more than 4.5 points. Of course, one gets the impression that everyone who studies with me is smarter than me, and this really hurts self-esteem, attitude towards oneself, and frustrates. For example, yesterday I taught, I took an exam, but the teacher asked questions in German in such a way that I did not understand some of them quite correctly, I thought that she meant something else. My answer wasn't perfect even though I learned a lot. But I can definitely say from personal experience that the low mark is still the result of the fact that the training material was not fully worked out. I'm not able to work it out yet because of the language. I'm also very worried, because. You have to learn a lot, but it doesn't always work out. When a person is upset, he cannot concentrate on important things, he is depressed. But this all passes sooner or later. You have to pick yourself up, slowly practice and learn. Those subjects that you did not pass, take again and try to interest yourself. It would be foolish to quit university or do something with yourself. Just pick yourself up and start learning. Also go in for sports, and do not sit in the room all the time, this is also depressing.

Hello reader! I think that every student will agree with me if I state with confidence that thoughts like: “I don’t want to study at a university: what should I do?” visited quite often, especially during the session. Of course, someone can say that this is a fundamentally wrong approach to learning and complete irresponsibility, but every student has the right to the blues, and not necessarily a higher educational institution.

Any student has the right to "weakness", but you should not dwell on such decadent thoughts for a long time, otherwise they will become an obsession.

If you, the reader, paid attention to this publication, it means that not everything is lost, and the desire to return the goal of becoming a graduate is still present, albeit remotely.

So why not look for a way out of this situation together, because, as you know: "One head is good, but two is much better."

Causes of apathy to study

Before taking any drastic action in your future student life, it is important to understand what is the cause of such depression. It is possible that by finding "root of evil", the mood will noticeably improve, and the desire to continue studying will return again and will not leave for a long time.

From my own experience, I will say that I had such a blues on every course, and each time the reason was the most unexpected. Having systematized my memories and studied the stories of the students I know, I can safely talk about the reasons for not wanting to continue my studies. As a rule, they are trivial and do not require deep philosophical knowledge.

1. Broken heart.

For the most part, student love is an integral part of the educational process, it’s not in vain that they say that the university stands for “get married successfully” (and this truth also applies to men). So that's why young people get to know each other, communicate, start touching romantic relationships and cannot imagine their future life without each other, they make joint plans for the future. When these plans break into everyday life, separation from your soulmate ends not only with the desire to leave the university, but also with the unwillingness to live.

2. Feeling of supreme injustice.

Many modern students do not perceive the leadership of the teacher, trying to prove their case at all lectures and practical classes. However, sometimes the "teachers", being tough nuts, are able to put the upstart and insolent in their place, and they do it publicly. Such a blow to self-esteem provokes depression and blues, and the desire to learn further disappears altogether.

3. Financial stability.

Today, many students skillfully combine work and study, and when the latter brings stability and financial independence, the meaning of the precious "crust" is completely lost. Another question arises: “Why do I need this study when I already know my future specialty and have a specific job”?

4. Session.

Before passing exams, the increased mental load takes all the strength, and the student, looking at the mountains of reference literature, only has a desire to sleep and never go to university again. As a rule, this is a temporary phenomenon, and after passing the exam it seems that you are ready to move mountains. Such depression occurs more often on the eve and during the winter session, because in this "cold season" of the year, the "hormone of happiness" prevails in deficit.

5. Mediocre study.

If a student does not enjoy the educational process, and goes to the university only for the sake of "crust" and the peace of mind of his parents, then the desire to quit school visits him almost every morning, when the alarm clock makes him get out of bed and interrupts his sweet dream.

So now it is quite obvious what drives a student when he suddenly loses the meaning of his future studies. If it is temporary, then there is no cause for concern; but, when such “suicidal thoughts” visit almost every day, it builds to become alarmed and reconsider its usual student life.

The power of motivation

Each student can independently get out of this feeling of apathy, or timely use the help of relatives and friends. For example, a warm conversation with friends helped me, but someone is more like a full sleep and a change of scenery. Whatever a student does and does not undertake, he should not drop out of school.

This is where we need to remember the motivation that brought him to these university walls a few years ago. It is important to refresh in memory those values that were invested in the head upon admission, as well as those goals that were set in the first year.

Is it possible that primitive melancholy can disrupt the usual routine of life and cross out all future careers and prospects?

How to get back the love of learning?

I often asked myself this question, but I realized that giving someone advice is stupid, because each student chooses for himself the way out of their depression. A person is, first of all, an individual, therefore, what affects some does not help others.

But I still decided to push the students lost in themselves onto a certain path of truth, and give them a unique opportunity to still get a diploma of higher education. So do not, reader, ignore these tips.

1. If a student feels that his head is boiling from new knowledge received in unlimited quantities, it's time to tell yourself "stop" until the allergy to study appeared. It is recommended to take a break, relax, and then plunge into the world of science and reference literature with renewed vigor and a fresh head. Such small breaks allow you to forget about your studies for a while, which means that one day they will not cause apathy and even a feeling of deep disgust for it.

2. When the feeling of "sweetness" from studying appears, it's time to change of scenery, and spend the weekend not with notes, but with friends or in nature, for example. Such changes in the usual routine allow you to escape from the walls of the university and dull objects, but the memories of a pleasant time will then inspire you for the most unexpected actions for a long time to come. Among them, the desire to get a red diploma or pass the session only with excellent grades.

3. Set yourself a new goal. This is necessary so that studying does not cause boredom, but, on the contrary, is a “stimulator” of excitement and the desire to learn something new. So why not offer the teacher to organize another scientific project in order to show himself and not die of boredom?

Such salvation from the blues helps to find a new incentive for excellent students, but mediocre students, on the contrary, can lead to a feeling of deep depression and noticeably worsen academic performance. So it is recommended to use this method only if you are confident in your mental abilities.

4. It helps many students to return the desire to study, oddly enough, love. Indeed, this bright feeling inspires and inspires to exploits, so you immediately want to live, create and gain new knowledge in your specialty. So why not combine business with pleasure, especially since there is very little time left to study - a maximum of five years.

5. You can always change your choice. If a student suddenly realized that he had chosen the wrong specialty, then you should not torment yourself with meaningless lectures and knowledge that in life will only bring blues and complete disappointment.

You need to understand yourself, and then take a fateful step in favor of future self-realization and change the wrongly chosen specialty. Do not think that this is impossible, because real miracles can happen in universities, you just need to go to the dean's office and find the main magician.

So now it is obvious that everything is not as bad as it might seem at first glance. The main thing is to find for yourself the way out that will allow you to remember why this long journey of five (maximum six) years was started.

If one fine day the desire to study at a university has disappeared, then you should not “chop off your shoulder”, but for a start it is desirable to understand yourself. To do this, go on sick leave, get enough sleep and change the situation, airing your thoughts. Decisions should be taken only consciously and on a bright head, since a momentary weakness can become a fatal mistake in fate.

In addition, it does not hurt to consult with older comrades who have experienced such a depressive situation more than once during the educational process. Perhaps not everything is so bad, but the experience of the “experienced” will definitely help you get back on track.

You can also discuss your problem with the curator, since it is this person who cares about your fate.

As a rule, competent teachers not only read their subject excellently, but are also subtle psychologists. This is exactly what you should use, the main thing is to choose a convenient time for a conversation.

And the last thing: it doesn’t hurt to visit caring parents about your blues, perhaps they will give good advice and help you find a way out of this unpleasant situation. If the thought: “I don’t want to study: what should I do?” does not leave, it is possible that it is time to change something in your life.

However, before taking drastic measures, it is worth paying attention to all the above recommendations and, for your peace of mind, test them in practice.

What if it helps?

But on the other hand: isn't it time to think about the meaning of life, maybe these are all signs of fate? Or maybe radical changes are coming in your life? And, nevertheless, my advice: "You should not become a fatalist, and do not quit your studies in any case."

Conclusion: In this article, you learned about what to do if you don't want to go to college. We wish you to stop moping, pull yourself together and forward, for new successes and victories!

P.S. How do you deal with the fact that sometimes you don't want to study? Share your secrets.

P.P.S. Happy student's day, dear reader, because today is January 25! (article published on January 25, 2014)

Lena Shabunina, dropped out of Volgograd State University twice, now studies at RATI-GITIS

For the first time, I left VolSU in the first year of the Faculty of Management and Regional Economics with a degree in advertising. At the same time, our enrollment in this specialty was the first in VolSU, so teachers from the department openly said that our program was not fully developed and no one knows what subjects await us ahead.

Of course, I wanted to work in my specialty, but when I saw my schedule, I immediately lost all interest in learning. I asked my parents to give me a second chance - and decided to enter the same university in absentia for journalism. I entered, studied for a year and a half and received a tail in the fourth session. At that time, I already lived in Moscow and worked at Winzavod, so I had very little time and desire to study at a Volgograd university. After once again I stood for half my life at the teacher’s office, handed everything over to him and left with a calm soul, and then it turned out that he forgot to put me in the record book, I realized that it was probably time to tie with this university. I have absolutely no regrets about the decisions made then. I'm sure I wouldn't have. A year earlier, a year later.

“Here, in my training manual it is written like this, so you must count like this,” the teacher said. At school, there is no opportunity to think about something and make decisions, albeit not the right ones, but your own. ”

The bright image of higher education collapsed completely after advertising. At the faculty of journalism, I already understood that I had come only for a crust. I was disappointed in the educational program - completely unthought-out and built on outdated formats. In my opinion, the educational program should be based on the knowledge that the student will really need in their future profession, and not on the foundations laid down by God knows when. Well, it’s not for nothing that GITIS supplements and modernizes the curriculum almost every year! It's great when you are taught by practitioners who know not from a textbook what and how happens in this profession. Learning from a theorist is boring, tedious and useless.

The problems of our education lie at school, and maybe even in kindergarten. At school in Russian and literature, I very often argued with the teacher and received several twos per lesson! “Here, in my training manual it is written like this, so you must count like this,” the teacher said. At school, there is no opportunity to think about something and make decisions, albeit not the right ones, but your own.

I believe that the most important thing in higher education is to choose yourself and consciously. You need to understand why you came here, then it will be interesting to listen to lectures. I will not impose anything on my child, and I do not think that he should decide on his future profession at the age of 17.

Alina Ryabinina, dropped out of her studies at three St. Petersburg universities, now works as a photographer

My story began with the fact that after school I left home, but at the insistence of my mother I entered St. Petersburg State University at the Faculty of Management with a degree in personnel management in a paid department. Studying cost some fabulous money, but I did not want to study at this particular university. Now I don’t remember if I took at least one exam, but I remember that I definitely decided not to continue my studies. At that time, I wanted to minimize parental controls, which was the main reason.

Two years later, I came to the conclusion that I want to try again to start getting a higher education and entered FINEC in the evening department. I studied there for two years while continuing to work. My main job at that time was the position of an advertising and PR manager in a St. Petersburg company, and I was actively developing in this direction.

“I am loyal to our higher education. For some, this is the only way to pass five or six years, sitting on the neck of their parents and depicting violent activity.

In September 2008, I took a new job at a company with much higher standards for its employees. It was a fundamentally different level of my professional development, so I entered the Institute of Business and Marketing Law by transfer. At that time, I already clearly understood that I needed education more for the crust, however, I spent half a year in passing exams due to the difference in academic programs and paperwork. At the end of autumn 2008, the crisis broke out, and three days before the new year 2009, I was laid off, like half of the advertising department, without compensation. In February 2009, I found out that I was pregnant. This provided another good excuse for myself to put my studies on hold. I do not regret that I did not finish my studies. I got an excellent experience from my studies at universities, and this is the most valuable thing.

I am loyal to our higher education. For some, this is the only way to pass five or six years, sitting on the neck of their parents and pretending to be active. Someone really believes that only the institute will give him the necessary knowledge and the so-called base, although such graduates are usually very disappointed by their lack of demand. Education plays a very important role, but first of all, it is the general development, the ability to learn, the ability to extract information and structure it. But knowledge can also be obtained from books, magazines, the Internet, trainings, seminars and courses that you choose depending on what you need at this particular moment, and on how exactly you absorb information better.

“In order for Russian higher education to become attractive, it is necessary to invite interesting teachers from Europe, the USA and other countries”

In order for Russian higher education to become attractive, it is necessary to invite interesting teachers from Europe, the USA and other countries - at least for short-term courses, actively develop the technical equipment of institutes, and stop teaching students from Soviet textbooks. But the most important thing is to eliminate corruption among teachers. Now there are almost no students from families with an average income and above who would be afraid of the session: all tests and exams can be bought, abstracts and term papers can be downloaded. You may or may not learn.

And we must not forget that a child, even the smallest, should have the right to choose. And any of his choices should meet with support, regardless of how we, parents, dream. At the same time, he should have as much information as possible about the possibilities of education, about what knowledge and skills he can get in each specific place, what options there are besides higher education, and what this education will give him. Again, a lot depends on the abilities and inclinations of the child, on how he wants to see his life in the future and what to do. If, for example, my son is fascinated by sports and only dreams of winning the world championship in golf, then I will not force him to get a law degree.

Vasily Semendiy, left one Samara university to enter another Samara university, now works in his specialty

I exchanged the study of applied mathematics and computer science at the Samara State Aerospace University for the specialty "Complex Protection of Informatization Objects" at the Samara Technical University. Then I came to the conclusion that I study too much mathematics and too little of what I really would like, and some of the interesting things that they teach, to put it mildly, are already divorced from reality. In one of the sessions, while working on mathematical analysis, I felt the most natural hatred of myself for wasting time on uninteresting things. The next day I went to the institute to draw up documents.

I am actively engaged in self-education. I do every single day. Firstly, this is part of my concept of an interesting life, and secondly, I am expanding the scope of possible areas of activity. If you go over the areas of my interests, then these are economics, management, information technology, codes of laws, comments on them and applied practice. For the soul, everything else: archeology and history, medicine, chemistry, physics, astronomy, genetics... A lot. But here there are more pieces, I try to choose what is more interesting and I lean more towards the natural sciences.

“I am actively engaged in self-education. I do every single day. Firstly, this is part of my concept of an interesting life, and secondly, I am expanding the scope of possible areas of activity.

In the tech world, people in most universities are learning outdated technology, which is why the companies that then hire these specialists are forced to spend time and money on training them from scratch. It is necessary to ask representatives of working enterprises to recommend what their future employees should study. And it is necessary to pay attention to summer practice. Most people go through it somewhere and somehow, but they should do it in specialized companies and enterprises, working there, and not sorting through papers, and most importantly - in their specialty.

I would put an end not to Russian higher education, but to the people who now rule it. Judging by what is happening there now, I will teach the child myself. Yes, I am seriously considering homeschooling my child.
