Test in English about pollution. Topic in English "Environmental Pollution"

Published: 29.02.2016

Environmental pollution is the deterioration of the natural environment by external substances introduced directly or indirectly. Human health, ecosystem quality and aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity can be affected and changed forever by pollution.

Environmental pollution occurs when an ecosystem cannot get rid of substances introduced into the environment. The critical threshold of its ability to remove substances naturally is undermined, and the balance of the ecosystem is disturbed.

The sources of pollution are numerous. Identifying these various pollutants and their impact on the ecosystem is difficult. They can be caused by natural disasters or human activities such as oil spills, chemical spills, accidents at nuclear power plants… They can have dire consequences for people and the planet on which people live: the destruction of biodiversity, increased mortality among people and animal species, destruction of natural habitats, damage to soil, water and air…

Pollution prevention and environmental protection make it necessary to apply the principles of sustainable development. We must think about meeting today's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This means that we must correct existing pollution, but also anticipate and prevent future sources of pollution in order to protect the environment and public health. Any damage to the environment should be punishable by law, and those responsible for pollution should pay compensation for the damage caused to the environment.

Pollution and its Negative Effects

Pollution is the degradation of natural environment by external substances introduced directly or indirectly. Human health, ecosystem quality and aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity may be affected and altered permanently by pollution.

Pollution occurs when ecosystems cannot get rid of substances introduced into the environment. The critical threshold of its ability to naturally eliminate substances is compromised and the balance of the ecosystem is broken.

The sources of pollution are numerous. The identification of these different pollutants and their effects on ecosystems is complex. They can come from natural disasters or the result of human activity, such as oil spills, chemical spills, nuclear accidents … These can have terrible consequences on people and the planet where they live: destruction of the biodiversity, increased mortality of the human and animal species, destruction of natural habitat, damage caused to the quality of soil, water and air…

Preventing pollution and protecting the environment necessitate the application of the principles of sustainable development. We have to consider satisfying the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This means that we should remedy existing pollution, but also anticipate and prevent future pollution sources in order to protect the environment and public health. Any environmental damage must be punishable by law, and polluters should pay compensation for the damage caused to the environment.

In recent years the number of environmental problems has increased greatly. One of the most dangerous problems for our planet is global warming which means that most climates all over the world are changing and getting warmer. It happens because we burn too much petrol resources, such as oil and coal, and the Earth heats up. This process can cause melting of the polar ice and the sea level rising in the future. If the climate changes there will be floods, heavy storms or severe droughts in different areas of the world. Cutting down on exhaust fumes from vehicles could help solve this serious problem.

Our planet is overpopulated, that's why we are using up our natural resources - they are not endless. So the scientists have started looking for some alternate forms of energy such as water, wind, sunlight and even tides. These resources are clean, natural and unlimited. I'm glad that modern automobile industries make hybrids which use electric or solar energy instead of petrol. It would definitely help protect our environment from pollution.

There are different kinds of environmental pollution: air pollution, water pollution, land pollution. Sadly, not all human beings realize or admit that we are the ones who cause these problems and we should be the first to stop them and protect our environment. Because of the industrial revolution the air is polluted with awful chemicals; seas and oceans are poisoned with oil spills. Many rare species of flora and fauna are threatened with extinction.

We should be proud to live on our wonderful planet and understand that the consequences of pollution might be terrible and affect us and our children later. We should start recycling things made of glass, paper, plastic and aluminum. We should stop smoking and plant as many trees as we can because they can give us more oxygen. We need to drive less and use public transport in order to reduce fuel burning. We are responsible for the situation.

In recent years, the number of environmental problems has increased greatly. One of the most dangerous problems for our planet is global warming, which means climate change around the world and its warming. This is because we are burning too many fuel resources such as oil and coal and the Earth is warming up. This process could lead to the melting of polar ice and future sea level rise. If the climate changes, there will be floods, severe storms or severe droughts in different parts of the world. Reducing vehicle exhaust emissions could help alleviate this serious problem.

Our planet is overpopulated, so we use our natural resources to the limit - they are not endless. So scientists began to look for alternative forms of energy, such as water, wind, sunlight, and even tides. These springs are pure, natural and infinite. I'm glad the modern auto industry is turning out hybrids that use electricity or solar energy instead of gasoline. This will definitely help protect our environment from pollution.

The topic "Environmental protection" in English will introduce you to good phrases and expressions that will later allow you to speak out on this topic.

Our planet is in danger. It becomes more and more polluted every year. In addition, the ozone layer becomes thinner and this may lead to many phenomena, like acid rains, that may destroy our planet and our lives.

And we all know that the main reason why the Earth suffers is us. We pollute the air, the water; cause the extinction of animals and plants. However, we are still capable of saving our planet and species we share it with.

There are several measures we may implement. First of all, we should not throw any garbage and all countries must work the system of garbage recycling out. If we all get used to sorting it, we will simplify the process of recycling.

In addition, we may use modern technologies to invent a new kind of petrol to substitute oil with it. We can also try to use cars less and walk or ride a bicycle to move around the city.

In order to save animals, we must protect them better from poachers: build national parks, organize special groups and funds which will take care of animals and find investors to supply our wild neighbors with food. We should also breed animals not to let any species disappear.

Moreover, more trees, bushes, flowers must be planted. They clean the air and serve as a home for many animals, birds, and insects.

Summing up, we have the power to make the Earth a better place to live and we must use this power to prevent the damage we inflict by our modern activities.

In summary, we have the power to transform the Earth into a better place to live, and we must use that power to prevent the harm we are causing through modern activities.

People have always polluted their surroundings. But until now pollution was not such a serious problem. People lived in uncrowned rural areas and did not have pollution - causing machines. With the development of crowded industrial cities which put huge amounts of pollutants into small areas, the problem has become more important.
Automobiles and other new inventions make pollution steadily worse. Since the late 1960's people have become alarmed with the danger of pollution.
Air, water, and soil are necessary for the existence of all living things. But polluted air can cause illness, and even death. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. On polluted soil, food can not be grown. In addition, environmental pollution spoils the natural beauty of our planet.
Pollution is as complicated as a serious problem. Automobiles are polluting the air but they provide transportation for the people. Factories pollute the air and the water but they provide jobs for people and produce necessary goods. Fertilizers and pesticides are important for growing crops but they can ruin soil.
Thus, people would have to stop using many useful things if they wanted to end pollution immediately. Most people don't want that of course. But pollution can be reduced gradually.
Scientists and engineers can find the ways to reduce pollution from automobiles and factories. Government can pass the laws that would make enterprises take measures to reduce pollution. Individuals and groups of people can work together to persuade enterprises to stop polluting activities.

Environmental pollution

People have always polluted the environment. Until recently, however, pollution has not been such a serious problem. People lived in sparsely populated agricultural areas, they did not have polluting cars. With the development of overcrowded industrial cities, in which huge amounts of waste were thrown away in a small area, this problem became much more serious.
Cars and other new inventions are making pollution worse. In the late 1960s, people began to feel anxiety about the danger of environmental pollution.
Air, water and soil are essential for the existence of all living beings. However, polluted air can cause illness and even death. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. Food crops cannot be grown on contaminated soil. In addition, environmental pollution spoils the natural beauty of our planet.
The problem of environmental pollution is as complex as it is serious. Cars pollute the air, but provide people with the opportunity to move. Factories pollute the air and water, but they provide jobs for people and produce needed goods. Fertilizers and pesticides are important for agriculture, but they can destroy the soil.
Thus, people would have to stop using many useful things if they wanted to stop polluting the environment right away. Most people don't want that, of course. However, pollution can be reduced gradually.
Scientists and engineers can find ways to reduce harmful emissions from cars and factories. The government can pass laws that would force businesses to take steps to reduce pollution. Individuals and groups can work together to persuade businesses to stop polluting activities.

3. What can environmental pollution cause?
4. Why is pollution a complicated problem?
5. Can pollution be stopped immediately?
6. What can government and individuals do to reduce pollution?

People have always polluted their surroundings. But until now pollution was not such a serious problem. With the development of civilization human's influence in nature began to increase. With the advent of big industrial cities which put huge amounts of pollutants into small areas the problem has become much more serious. Today, our planet is in great danger.

Air, water and soil are necessary for the existence of all living things. But polluted air can cause disease, polluted water is not drinkable and kills fish and other river and marine animals, on polluted soil food crops can not be grown.

There are many different kinds of pollution such as air pollution, water pollution, noise and nuclear pollution. Unfortunately, enterprises and corporations don’t care about the planet, they spew out a great amount of smoke into the air and waste into the rivers. Some people's activities do significant harm to the environment. Automobiles and other new inventions make pollution more intensive.

Environmental pollution causes the destruction of the ozone layer, extinction of some rare species, climate changing on our planet, the appearance of acid rain, increasing levels of ultraviolet radiation, the emergence of new diseases.

The most horrible ecological disaster befell Ukraine after the Chernobyl tragedy in April 1986 . A great damage has been done to people's health, the agriculture and forests. The consequences of this explosion at the atomic power-station are tragic for both the Ukrainians and other nations.

The problem of environmental pollution is rather complicated and serious. Automobiles pollute the air but they provide transportation for people. Enterprises pollute the air and the water but they provide jobs for people and produce necessary goods. Therefore, the protection of the environment should be approached comprehensively.

The protection of the environment requires the cooperation of all nations. Nowadays the government of many countries and the international organizations, like Greenpeace, Green Cross International and Friends of Earth, use direct actions to stop the destruction of the natural environment.
