And since 1946, the name has undergone a slight transformation and turned into the Day of the Soviet Army and the Navy. At first, only the military was honored on this day, and after a while they began to congratulate all the men of the country on the holiday.
This name remained until the 1990s. XX century. In 1995, the State Duma adopted the Law on the Days of Military Glory in Russia, after which it changed its name on February 23. But it did not last long. Since 2002, the holiday was given the usual name for us - Defender of the Fatherland Day - and declared a non-working day.
Now all men and women in the military and veterans of the Great Patriotic War are congratulated on the holiday. One of the traditions of the holiday is a solemn ceremony near the walls of the Kremlin in Moscow and the laying of wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
