Interpretation (decoding) of test results

It is expedient to start the analysis of the results with the determination of the level of general mental abilities. For this, the number of correctly solved problems (Ip) is correlated with the level scale.

The CAT test (Short indicative, selection test, V.N. Buzin, E.F. Vanderlik) is designed to diagnose the general level of intellectual abilities. CAT is an adaptation of the Vanderlik test. The CAT technique belongs to the category of tests of mental abilities (IQ), indicating the general level of intellectual development of an individual. In tests to determine IQ, an individual is presented with a series of tasks selected in such a way that an adequate sample of all the most important intellectual functions is provided for penetration into "critical points of intelligence." CAT provides for psychodiagnostics of the following parameters of intelligence: the ability to generalize and analyze, the flexibility of thinking, the speed and accuracy of perception of the material, literacy, the choice of the optimal strategy, etc.

The COT questionnaire was developed as a selection questionnaire for people applying for further education. The CAT test also allows you to get a detailed description of the formation of the subject's cognitive adaptation in the world as a whole. The COT methodology is used in the preliminary selection and distribution of personnel in industry, the army, the education system, career guidance, psychodiagnostics of learning and business qualities of a person.

Processing of results and interpretation of the test CAT (Short indicative, selection test by V.N. Buzin, E.F. Vanderlik. Questionnaire for the diagnosis of intelligence - IQ)

The higher your score on this test, the higher your current level of intellectual development, the better your abilities for further learning and cognitive activity.

It is expedient to start the analysis of the results with the determination of the level of general mental abilities. For this, the number of correctly solved problems (Ip) is correlated with the level scale.

The value of the indicator Ip is the level of general mental abilities:

13 and under - low

14-18 - below average

19-24 - medium

25-29 - above average

30 and more - high

A low result may not be reliable enough due to possible errors in compliance with the test conditions and understanding of the instructions. Therefore, a low test result according to this method can in no way be a sign of psychological professional unsuitability for any specialty. Only testing with the help of other methods can also provide reliable information about psychological contraindications to certain professions.

General mental development is determined not only through the amount of points received for the number of correctly solved problems. Qualitative Analysis The test is carried out according to the following parameters:

  • - what tasks are solved most successfully (verbal, mathematical, spatial);
  • - what are the characteristics of thinking (generalization, flexibility, inertia, etc.).

So tasks 10.13 require the development of arbitrariness, high concentration and distribution of attention.

Tasks 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 16, 19, 24, 28, 30, 43, 47, 48 determine the general level of awareness and development of linguistic abilities, that is, they characterize the quality of humanitarian education.

The level of education in the field of exact sciences is reflected in the success of performing numerical tasks to establish patterns with geometric shapes (13, 17, 22, 27, 33, 42, 44, 46, 50).

Tasks 29, 32, 49 testify to the level of spatial orientation and abstract-logical thinking of a person.

Arithmetic mean of test performance for a number of age groups of students:

Fifth grade students - 10.5 points,

Sixth grade students - 13 points,

7th grade students - 15 points,

Eighth grade students - 17.5 points

Students of the ninth grade - 18.5 points.

Median test scores.

Standardization group (people)

median rate

Standard off

Heads of departments, laboratories (10)

Employees of ministries and departments

Students of Moscow State University, husband. (ten)

Students of Moscow State University, women. (ten)

Students (specialization - electronic equipment and programming) (60)

Telecommunication engineers (140)

To successfully complete the test, a certain level of development of verbal, logical, numerical and spatial abilities is required. Verbal abilities are responsible for mastering the meaning of various words, understanding verbal analogies, performing logical operations with individual words. This quality is associated with the understanding of the text, the ability to distinguish between the direct and figurative meaning of the statement, to correctly interpret it, abstracting from the meaning of a particular phrase. The degree of logical thinking indicates the ability to understand cause-and-effect relationships, search for patterns, and the ability to draw the right conclusions. Numerical abilities are the abilities for fast and accurate calculations, logical reasoning, possession of arithmetic skills, understanding of mathematical operations. Spatial abilities include spatial imagination, possession of geometric concepts, the ability to mentally operate with objects on a plane and in space.

It is in your power to further develop these qualities. The level of development of intellectual abilities is not a person's height and not a blood type, which are genetically set and which cannot be changed. Intellectual abilities are not only learning conditions, but also the result of previous learning. Intelligence tests do not measure the inclinations and potentials of mental development, but only the level of development of skills and abilities of cognitive activity that you have formed today.

4.8 Rating 4.80 (10 votes)

Sergei Pimanov admits that it is easier for him to sing than to speak. But on the eve of the anniversary concert, the singer, the owner of a lyrical baritone, shared with Nasha Gazeta the secrets of his life and work.

1. Sergey, tell me, what is the most important thing for a musician?
- Save voice. It is also important not to lose the warmth of the heart when performing. When a person sings at odds with his soul and heart - this is not interesting for the viewer.

2. Did you sing in the choir as a child?
- From the age of 10 I sang at the Malinovskaya school, but not in the choir, but as a soloist. My voice was too strong to sing in a choir.

3. What is your life credo?
- You need to bring your creativity to people.

4. If there was no winter ...
- ... it would be eternal summer. But my favorite time of the year is Pushkin's autumn. I will even perform a song at a concert in which there are such words: “Spring was sometimes gloomy for me, but autumn smiles sweetly at me.”

5. Do you have a reference book?
- Now on my table you can find spiritual books.

6. When does your day start?
- At half past seven. The singer, in order for his voice to sound good, needs to get enough sleep. So I like to sleep, I am an owl by nature.

7. What is your favorite dish?
- My favorite is “dumplings with souls”. In Belarus, my mother-in-law cooked them amazingly.

8. Where would you like to give a concert?
- Once upon a time I performed in Moscow, in the program “Wider Circle”. Now I would like to return to Moscow, but with a solo concert.

9. In order to do everything, you need to ...
- … to work a lot. I have little free time. And now preparations are underway for the concert, and there is absolutely no time at all. I do not understand people who say that they have nothing to do - I have never had such a thing in my life. I'm always busy.

10. In your opinion, what is laziness?
- Perhaps, this is when the body needs rest. It happens that laziness wakes up in me too, but I fight it with all my might!

11. What do you definitely do before a concert?
- First, you need to put your voice in order. Secondly, put yourself in order - analyze everything.

12. How do you feel about contemporary music?
- Calmly. I can't say that I really like her - I like to sing romances more.

13. If a black cat crosses the road, what will you do? (just the 13th question!)
- I'll skip it. If in the heart with the Lord, then nothing is scary.

14. Would you like to live in another city?
- Everyone strives for the best. Maybe living in Italy would be milder - the climate is better there. But I think - where I was born, it came in handy there.

15. How do you feel about karaoke?
- In a way, it gives people a general musical development. But, of course, this is more entertainment than creativity.

16. What do you think - if there is no voice, then it is better not to sing? Or if you really want to, then you can?
- You should always sing! Regardless of whether there is a voice or not. I would like us to be like in Italy, where everyone sings: when they walk down the street, in public transport - yes, anywhere. That would be the case with us! Another thing, if you want to do it professionally, then, of course, you need talent.

17. Are you a strict teacher?
- Yes. I worked at the institute for 15 years, and my students said this at the exams: “After we look at your face, we generally forget how to sing correctly.” I just take singing very seriously, and teaching even more so.

18. Perhaps you were a diligent student yourself?
- Just the opposite (laughs)! Although I studied well.

19. How do you assess the cultural level of our city?
“Unfortunately, our level of culture is low. I remember such a case: recently a symphony orchestra from Germany came. They performed a symphony, which consisted of four parts. They were applauded after each part - but this should be listened to as one piece! The musicians were, to put it mildly, shocked.

20. Do you like Daugavpils public?
Yes, she is very kind.

21. What is your ideal weekend?
- When there is an opportunity to spend them in nature, listen to the birds singing, preferably near a reservoir.

22. Do you believe that thoughts are material?
- Certainly! If you want something, you will get it. I can give you my own example: it is very difficult to organize a concert these days, even financially. But as soon as you start working on it - there are people who help, the situation is in your favor. And everything works out. You always have to believe and wish!

23. Are you a frugal person?
- Of course, I have never been wasteful.

24. Are you interested in politics?
- Very little. I read the press, but I do not want to take part - I am not a member of any party. I think that music should exist separately from politics.

25. When was the last time you went to the cinema?
- Literally one of these days, on November 22, I will go to “Renaissance” to watch a film by our friends Nina and Valentin Margevich “The Pskov Spiritual Mission”.

26. What do you think: should the bird of happiness be caught by the tail or wait until it flies by itself?
- So you can wait your whole life. But catching is also not an option. All you have to do is work hard.

27. Do you drive a car?
- Yes, for many years.

28. And how did you survive our “dug up” city?
- Calm down - I always take an example from German drivers. Our people are nervous: if you stop for a second at a traffic light, they are already signaling you. But in Germany, everything is different: there they will wait for you for about three minutes for sure, and no one will say anything. Therefore, I am very discreet and calm behind the wheel.

30. How do you usually celebrate the New Year?
- In recent years, I celebrate Christmas more. Before the New Year, a lot of work, vanity. Once I was even Santa Claus. An actor must be able to transform into different characters.

31. How is a creative person different from others?
I think he lives in another dimension. He has completely different values in life.

32. What is your favorite place in the city?
- Borisoglebsky Cathedral.

33. What melody is installed on your mobile phone?
- Standard.

34. Do you like talking on the phone?
- Not. Now there is some kind of boom on it, and I try so that others do not even see that I have it. For example, someone rides a tram and talks on the phone all the way. I think it's uncivilized.

35. Tell me, how do you cope with the excitement before the concert?
- Stage fever visits me every time. You need to collect all your will, pull yourself together. When performances go one after another, then there is less excitement. But one has only to take a break - and again "hands are shaking."

36. Is extremeness not about you?
- Quite the opposite! In my student years, we went to the mountains and skied. Now I will not risk it, but before - completely.

37. Does love move the planet?
- Certainly!

38. Do you have a talisman?

- We need to find an approach to everyone. You can’t speak directly on the forehead - so as not to injure and discourage the desire to do this further.

42. Can every musician write music?
- Hard to say. Every musician can write music - provided that it is very good. Because bad is better not to write at all. But, of course, you need a composer's gift.

43. Is talent a gift from God?
- Yes. Certainly.

44. And when a person “buries” his talent…
“Then he’ll develop some other abilities, since these didn’t work out.

- Spiritual. The concert program will begin with the work "May my prayer be corrected."

47. Would you like to sing a duet with someone?
- I sing a duet with my daughter. When Lyubov Kazarnovskaya came to us, we joked with her that maybe someday we would sing a duet with her.

48. Are you a romantic person?
- Certainly! Even too much.

49. Tell me what needs to be done to make the world a better place?
- Love each other. Now it's every man for himself, trying to survive on his own. We need to unite and help each other.

50. What does the anniversary mean to you?
- I take it very simply. For me, this is more a report on the work done: after all, 40 years on stage is a lot.

Short Orientation Test (COT) belongs to the category of intelligence tests (IQ). IQ tests testify to the general level of intellectual development of an individual. In tests for determining IQ, an individual is presented with a series of tasks selected in such a way that an adequate selection of all the most important intellectual functions is provided for penetration into "critical points of intelligence" (Anastazi A. Psychological testing. Book 1. - M., 1982. - C .205).

There is a group of general intelligence tests specifically designed for quick preliminary assessment of personnel. The first test in this direction was the "Self-Applied Otis Test" (Ibid., Book 2, p. 75). The test had in most cases a good coefficient of validity in the selection for the positions of clerk, operator of calculating machines, workers, foremen, etc. For high-skilled employees, the correlation between test scores and job performance was small.
The most famous adaptation of the Otis test is the Vanderlik test. Unlike the Otis test, the Vanderlik test performs well on a sample of highly skilled employees and managers. A. Anastasi notes that the reliability of the test, despite its brevity, is quite satisfactory.
CAT is an adaptation of the Vanderlik test. The structure of the adapted test corresponds to the structure of general abilities. As a result of adaptation, about half of the texts of tasks were changed and the structure of the test was brought into line with the structure of general abilities.
The test is based on P. Vernon's hierarchical model of learning ability, which consists in the fact that the factors that determine abilities can be divided into factors of several levels, with lower-level factors being derivatives of higher-level factors. This model is illustrated in Fig.

The integral indicator of the test is thus related to learning. Learning reflects the general abilities of a person, which "express the cognitive activity of the subject and his ability to assimilate new knowledge, actions, complex forms of activity" (Zeigarnik B.V. Pathopsychology. - M., 1976. P. 224). Learning is an important trait necessary for mastering any specialty. Currently, there is an acute problem of selecting persons who it makes sense to train in a particular specialty. Skills and abilities are quickly formed in persons with high learning ability, internal restructuring is quickly carried out when the conditions of activity change.
The structure of the adapted CAT test corresponds to the structure of general abilities.
The basis for the computer version of the test was the text of the questionnaire, the adaptation of which was made by V. N. Buzin (Workshop on psychodiagnostics. Concrete psychodiagnostic materials. - M .: MGU, 1989). As a result of adaptation, about half of the texts of tasks were changed and the structure of the test was brought into line with the structure of general abilities. Several geometric tasks were changed by the test interpreters, while the structure of the test was preserved.
Thus, CAT is designed to determine the integral indicator "general abilities" and provides for the diagnosis of the following "critical points" (A. Anastasi) of intelligence:
1) The ability to generalize and analyze the material.
2) Flexibility of thinking.
3) Inertia of thinking, switchability.
4) Emotional components of thinking, distractibility.
5) Speed and accuracy of perception, distribution and concentration of attention.
6) The use of language, literacy.
7) Choosing the optimal strategy, orientation.
8) Spatial imagination.
The integral indicator of the test (TI) is a complex multi-parameter indicator of the general abilities of a person.
When adapting this test, the main efforts were aimed at obtaining obvious content validity (expert validity). The reliability of the test was determined by the Kuder-Richardson method. Alpha ¾ reliability of CAT, calculated by the Kuder-Richardson formula, was 0.86 (data from V. N. Buzin). Reliability was calculated on two samples: students of the 6th grade of secondary schools (60 people) and people with higher education, mainly communications engineers (140 people). He also established a correlation of PT with IQ according to the Eysenck numerical test - 0.68, and with verbal IQ - 0.61 (significance level p< 0.001).

User Notes
The first four tasks are trial. The experimenter reports that their results do not need to be recorded in the protocol. Then, together with all the subjects, he solves trial tasks. After making sure that the instruction was accepted correctly, the experimenter instructs to begin work.
The most effective is the use of computer processing of the results of the CAT test. In the absence of such, the psychologist has the right to subject the results of the test to primitive statistical processing. This is achieved by summing up the number of correctly completed tasks. The diagnostic results are processed according to the formula

where a is the number of points scored, b is the maximum score on the test (50). The result obtained is analyzed in relation to the socio-psychological standard, conditionally considered as 100% completion of test tasks and correlated with the differentiation scale.
