A stylized two-headed bird is a sacred figure inherent in the ancient cult traditions of the Finno-Ugric tribes of the Ural region. It is a pair of mythical birds, combined with tails. With their wings, birds support the rising sun - the source of life, the patron of the ancient peoples of the Urals and Trans-Urals. The Ugric tribes, who came to these areas in the 1st millennium BC from the steppes of Northern Kazakhstan and Western Siberia, became one of the ancestors of the Khanty and Mansi. The Russians at the end of the 11th century called them "Ugrs" (from Ugry). Hence the name of the region "Ugra", "Ugra land" was born.
The motto "Yugra" emphasizes the ancient name of the Autonomous Okrug. The white element is a stylized image of reindeer horns, an indispensable attribute of the Khanty-Mansiysk national ornament. Khanty and Mansi borrowed reindeer husbandry from the Nenets as early as the 13th-14th centuries. And now the indigenous peoples are engaged in reindeer herding.
A wreath of green cedar branches indicates that more than half of the territory of the district is covered with forests, mostly coniferous. The figured shield graphically perfectly corresponds to the style of the image of a two-headed bird.

REGULATIONS ON THE PROCEDURE FOR REPRODUCING THE COAT OF KHANTY-MANSIYSK
1. The multi-colour version of the coat of arms of the city is reproduced as the title image on:
