  • Developer, or Escape to Paradise, Leonid Ostretsov. A new adventurous novel by Leonid Ostretsov returns readers to the mysterious Zurbagan. The heroes already familiar from the book All the Gold in the World, or Vacation in Zurbagan, fall to the share of ...

A few decades ago, no one believed in the future of electronic translation systems. It was believed that, using the labor of a machine, people were wasting their time, since a machine would still not be able to translate the text stylistically correctly and become a worthy competitor to a human translator.

Times change, people's needs change. Today, information flows between organizations are so great, and the number of new industries described by specific terms has increased so much that without translation programs it is difficult, and sometimes impossible, to imagine the work of a large company.

Of course, even today there are many who express dissatisfaction with the quality of machine translation, but we should give credit to the developers of machine translation systems: in an effort to improve the capabilities of their programs and, of course, to overtake competitors, they constantly offer new versions of electronic translators.

Let's test the capabilities of current machine translation systems by arranging a competition for them. The programs will have to translate two texts: an employment contract for hiring a security guard and instructions for driving a car in the event of a skid. Many companies are often faced with the need to translate legal documents and texts related to various industries. In addition, employees often do not have time to undergo special training before they start using the translator program. Given these factors, the success of automatic translators will be evaluated, among other things, by the criterion of accessibility and ease of work with them for beginners.

The competition is attended by the translation program of the Russian company PROMT, the product of the French company Systran, Pragma from the Ukrainian Trident, as well as the translation program SKIIN. For testing, the English-Russian direction of translation was chosen as the most popular and in demand among Russian-speaking users.

Competitors

One of the main advantages of this program, which immediately catches the eye, is its rich interface. When working with the translator, the user can connect a large number of additional settings, and then save them as templates for later use. In addition, PROMT is integrated into the main office applications and can recognize graphic files using an integrated OCR system.

In the texts on which this translator was tested, there were practically no unrecognized words left, and all untranslated words turned out to be names and addresses. By the way, the program allows you to add all such words to the list of "Reserved words" and then they will remain unchanged during translation. Words that do not require translation can either be transliterated or the original language can be retained. If the program offers several options for translating a word at once, its main meaning is underlined, and the options are given in brackets.

One of the important advantages of this program is the function of connecting thematic dictionaries. This, of course, is not an innovation, however, in practice, connecting dictionaries does not affect the quality of translation for all tested programs. It turned out to be more convenient to use PROMT dictionaries than the thematic dictionary bases of other programs, and the quality of the translated text after connecting the dictionaries changed significantly for the better. For example, only PROMT translated the phrase “court costs” as “legal costs” (in legal terminology, there is just such a definition of court costs). Systran came up with "legal costs" (also an acceptable option, but not accurate), and Pragma came up with a "royal" translation - "court costs". After connecting the Legal Dictionary, PROMT 7.0 correctly translated the phrase "This Agreement may be terminated" as "The Agreement may be terminated" (before applying the dictionary, the phrase sounded rather ridiculous: "The Agreement may be terminated").

When working with texts of the same thematic orientation, the user can save all the settings he specified during translation in the form of subject templates. This is convenient if, for example, an employee of a company has to translate documents on the same topic or on several periodically recurring topics.

It should also be noted that the so-called multidimensional dictionary architecture functions in the seventh generation of the PROMT system. This means that there are two translation options in the program - active and inactive. The active one participates in the translation process, while the inactive ones work in the viewing mode to select the most appropriate option in terms of meaning. If necessary, inactive variants can be made active. Thus, there is no limit on the number of translation options for each word - it is enough to choose which translation options will be active for this text.

Despite the variety of functions that the program provides to the user, PROMT is not without some drawbacks. The first difficulty lies in the fact that the whole range of possibilities and numerous options is hidden behind the system interface, which cannot be mastered without referring to the user manual. Otherwise, many program options will remain unknown to the user.

There were also some inaccuracies in the translated text. For example, the system failed to correctly translate one of the clauses of the employment contract: “No modification or amendments shall be made to this contract unless in writing and signed by all parties”, despite the absence of complex grammatical structures in it. PROMT's translation of this sentence is: "No modification or amendment shall be made to this contract unless in writing and signed by all parties (parties)".

Trident, a Ukrainian competitor of PROMT, positions its product as an auxiliary application that is not a stand-alone program, but is integrated into almost any computer application. Indeed, immediately after installing the program, an additional Pragma menu appeared on the right side of the Word information panel, as well as in Outlook, Internet Explorer, Wordpad, and even Notepad.

In addition, the latest version of Pragma contains almost a hundred thematic dictionaries. You can select the topic you need for translation in the drop-down dialog box immediately after clicking the “Translate” option. The user can also create their own dictionaries. To work with dictionaries, a special utility has been developed - "Corrector". The Pragma package also includes a special application for quick translation - Pragma Fast Translation, but while working with it, you cannot enter text or change it.

Although the algorithm for working with the program is quite simple, sometimes there were some difficulties. For example, in the Pragma user manual it is written that the program highlights words with several translation options in green, and unfamiliar words in red. However, when translating the employment contract, only words with alternative translations were highlighted.

In terms of translation quality, several inaccuracies were identified. Firstly, the concept of “car skidding” was translated as “brake pad”. Of course, this term also refers to automotive topics, but its use in this text is completely inappropriate, and the program did not offer other translation options.

Surprisingly, when translating an employment contract after connecting the thematic dictionary "Law", not a single word has changed in the text! Pragma translated the word "parties" as "parties" (in jurisprudence, this term means "parties"), while the rest of the programs coped with the translation of this word.

At the same time, Pragma, the only one of the tested programs, after connecting the thematic dictionary, was able to correctly translate the phrase "rear-wheel" - "rear wheels". In the first case, Pragma offered the "rear wheels" option.

For unknown reasons, Pragma offers various additional translation features in different office applications. For example, using Pragma in Microsoft Outlook, you can transliterate words. But in the Word program, you can set other additional translation settings, but there is no transliteration function here.

Pragma contains fewer language translation directions than PROMT and Systran. She has English, Russian, German, Ukrainian and Latvian languages to her credit.

Systran French Translator works both from Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, PowerPoint, and as a standalone program.

It should be noted that the Systran interface provides the user with many options for improving the quality of the translation. However, some difficulties arose when working with him. It turned out that some buttons located on the toolbar are not duplicated by the commands of the main menu of the program. The complexity of the work lies also in the fact that the program saves the settings of the translated text for all newly opened documents. As a result, the text of a regular e-mail may contain, for example, aviation or automotive terms. To prevent this from happening, you need to disable the thematic settings of the previous document in the new document.

The disadvantage of Systran, which immediately catches your eye, is the creation of your own words by the program, consisting of letters of the Russian alphabet. Instead of leaving the word untranslated, the system “invents” a non-existent word or adds extra letters. So, the simple expression "so that" was translated as "SO, STO", written with a comma and in capital letters. And for some reason Systran writes the word “first” with the letter “a” at the end - “first”. Especially "successfully" the program invents adjectives - "icy", "calm". And the translated word "if" for some reason was written in capital Latin letters.

In the translation of Systran, untranslated words are much more common than in other translation programs (for example, in task texts, the words “paid”, “following”, “front-wheel”, etc.) remained untranslated. Words written in capital letters are not recognized by the program and remain in the original language. In some sentences, the peculiarities of the grammatical constructions of the Russian language were not taken into account and the wrong word order was used (for example, the sentence ended with the words “the direction the wheels are looking at”), and the tenses of the verbs were not observed (“you will not drive”).

The program is equipped with five large dictionaries, each of which, in turn, contains several thematic dictionaries. However, the inclusion of these dictionaries did not affect the quality of the translated text.

At the same time, it is impossible not to note the obvious advantages of this program. The Systran Premium software package contains additional tabbed settings that allow you to improve the quality of your translation. In addition, when translating, Systran performs automatic spell checking of the source text, which allows you to translate documents containing spelling errors. The system contains a special utility Systran Multi Translate Utility, which performs batch translation of files, as well as a translator embedded in Word. The Systran 5.0 package also includes a special dictionary management program (Systran Dictionary Manager). The undoubted advantage of the program is the presence of a large number of language pairs - Systran also translates from the languages of East Asian countries (Korean, Chinese, Japanese).

English-Russian translator SKIIN 2.0 (developer - SKIIN, Russia)

PROMT, Trident and Systran are the undisputed leaders in the development of machine translation systems from foreign languages into Russian, but we managed to find another program on the Internet, the capabilities of which we also wanted to test. We are talking about the Russian translator SKIIN, which has the only direction of translation - from English into Russian. In terms of its capabilities, this program is still far from the recognized leaders. SKIIN performs interlinear translation of the text without taking into account the syntactic and morphological features of the language. The programs were compared according to the criteria given in the table (the highest score is 5).

The Russian translation system PROMT turned out to be the leader of the competition, which easily coped with the translation of texts of different subjects, and the quality of its translation was improved by connecting additional settings. In general, PROMT translation can be called quite professional.

Second place in terms of translation quality was taken by the Ukrainian program Pragma. Unfortunately, the function of connecting thematic dictionaries does not always give the desired result; in some cases, the translation of text without a dictionary is more correct than after connecting it. A small set of language areas can also be attributed to the disadvantages of this program.

Despite its popularity and a large stock of language areas, the French system Systran coped with the English-Russian translation of the text worse than its competitors. Systran developers need to work first on harmonization in the process of translating grammatical structures in English and Russian. In addition, the program leaves a large number of words untranslated and often offers translations that do not exist in Russian, which indicates the need to replenish its vocabulary and add specific terms from different thematic areas to the translation databases.

As for the SKIIN interpreter, his possibilities are not yet as wide as those of other participants in these competitions. This program is not able to cope with the translation of large volumes of text, since after translation it requires manual correction of all sentences in order to build correct grammatical structures. In addition, a lot of time will have to be spent looking for alternative translations of words in case the translation proposed by the program turned out to be incorrect.

However, in general, electronic translators today delight with their new features and additional functions that allow the user, firstly, to easily understand the meaning of the text, and secondly, to significantly improve the quality of translation, for example, of specialized information. Today, with the help of automated translation systems, you can translate completely different texts - from various documents and emails to the content of web pages and recognition of graphic files.

Examples of translations made by various programs can be found on the accompanying CD-ROM.

Not knowing a foreign language can be a serious barrier. I mean, first of all, English: it is universal, and this is especially remarkable in the computer world. Even if the program is written by Japanese developers, the English-language interface is more likely to be found in it than the Russian one. Users who deal with a number of such programs need to know some terms, commands in English, and, if possible, translate text or inscriptions. With the help of translation programs, you can significantly replenish your vocabulary.

Translation tools are divided into translators (hereinafter we will call them “translator programs”, to avoid confusion) and dictionaries. Dictionaries also serve to translate the text, but, based on the concept of “dictionary”, they translate only one word at a time.

It may seem that translators of this kind are very inconvenient in their work: each word must be painstakingly searched for in a dictionary. But, in fact, this is not the case. Dictionaries have many advantages over translators. Thus, the quality of self-translated text will often be higher than the result issued by a software translator. Knowing a non-native language superficially, you can find unfamiliar words and “recognize” them. Moreover, as the special vocabulary is studied, unfamiliar terms become less and less.

Text translation software participating in the review:

TransLite - universal text translator for Windows

Developer: TransLite
License: shareware
This text translator supports the following translation directions: English-Russian, German-Russian, French-Russian, Spanish-Russian, English-Spanish. What is the main advantage of "Translate" over full-fledged translator packages for Windows OS? Speed and efficiency of translation. There is no need to install electronic dictionaries like Lingvo or Promt along with offline databases when a simple translator of general words will solve your questions.

TransLite is 6 MB and includes general dictionaries. We do not think that 200 thousand words is a small reserve of a program for translation (regarding the English language). However, if you think so, you can expand the TransLite lexicon by downloading an additional dictionary database from the website. One detail: only registered users are allowed to download add-ons.

After launch, TransLite "hides" in the notification area and is activated by clicking on the icon. Translation is convenient thanks to the context system. You can even not highlight the word, but simply hover over it. A window will appear with the translation of the word (from English into Russian or vice versa), and the orientation is determined automatically. Almost any application text can be translated, even the names of folders, files and menu commands.

You can translate text from Russian into English when you hover over a window or an inscription

TransLite is also convenient because it allows you to adjust the transparency of windows. You can enter text using the virtual keyboard.

What is also noteworthy is the display of transcription and voicing of the translated word. Of course, this technology does not work in the best way (it uses the Microsoft Speech API built into Windows), but what can you expect from a 6 MB program? The only thing we didn't like was the constant reminder of the translator's registration in the pop-up window.

TransLite also works in simple dictionary mode: you write a word in the query string, and the program offers all the options available in the database. If the contextual translation of the text seems too inconvenient for you, use the good old way.

Google Translate Client

Developer: Alexey ILJIN
License: freeware

There are very few good programs for translating from Russian into English (however, as well as into any other language). They do not exist at all and will not exist until the computer has learned to think "independently". While Google is developing artificial intelligence, an online translation service for texts, websites and pdf documents from the same company has appeared. It's called Google Language Tools. The extensive possibilities of the tools are amazing, and you can choose from dozens of languages and translate the text into the desired language from the same list. As already mentioned, Google Translate Client is convenient to use as a site translator in each of the available language directions.

Google Translate uses the API of a well-known service for its work.

Everything seems to be fine - only this service is available only through a browser. Many of us are more accustomed and more comfortable using a separate application, which only requires a small program window and a few buttons. And such an application exists. We found it quite by accident, because. The program is very recent. Google Translate Client works only when connected to the Internet, since the Translate Client does not have its own local database (which can be judged by the size of one and a half megabytes). For translation, the database of the Google service is used. This is both plus and minus GTC. On the one hand, there are good opportunities, on the other hand, the program is absolutely helpless without the Internet. You need to remember this and not ask later: why doesn’t it work?

Google Translate Client has two modes of operation. The first one is a classic translator window with two text fields. It's simple: enter a word or a sentence, choose the translation direction and press the Translate button! The second is a tooltip. It automatically appears if you have selected a piece of text on the site or in another application. The appearance of the pop-up window can be customized.

Of other virtues. The program remembers the translation option, there is no need to choose every time, as is the case with a well-known web service. There is a corresponding option in the Translate settings.

The translator, due to his brevity, is extremely unpretentious. You can disable it in the tray with one click. Moreover, enabling / disabling Google Translate Client is configured individually. Google Translate Client consumes traffic only during online text translation.

ABBYY Lingvo translator and dictionary

Developer: ABBYY
Program website: www.lingvo.ru

Lingvo is a universal dictionary and professional translation client. As correctly stated in the description of the official website, it is suitable for business, work and study, language learning, travel, professional translation. For such a full-featured package, the system requirements are low and the Lingvo translator distribution kit will not “puzzle” a home computer much.

ABBYY system requirementsLingvo (multilingual version)

Operating system: Microsoft Windows Vista/Microsoft Windows Server 2003/Microsoft Windows XP, 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 350 to 1200 MB hard disk space (depending on the number of dictionaries installed), sound card, headphones or speakers.

The development of the Lingvo translator began in 1989 at the initiative of David Yan and Alexander Moskalev. Now it is the most popular electronic dictionary. The Lingvo translator is distributed in several editions, including the jewel version, with significant limitations. One of them is support for a small number of dictionaries. For translation, you can choose one of 11 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian, Latin or Russian.

The package includes more than 150 (!) vocabulary databases and 8.7 million entries. These dictionaries are developed on the professional resource LingvoDA.ru by independent lexicographers. Therefore, the difference between the Lingvo translator and conventional dictionary programs is huge. Each word in the text Lingvo translates in great detail, the translation is illustrated with examples from books, newspapers, etc. From version to version, new dictionaries (including spelling, explanatory), bases of sounded words appear in Lingvo. But, since ABBYY Lingvo is a paid product, each update makes you think before you pay for upgrading to a new version.

Lingvo developers met the needs of customers who want to learn languages on their own and expand their vocabulary with the help of a dictionary. For this purpose, the add-on to the Lingvo Tutor dictionary is intended. Tutor is a phrase book in 6 languages. The most used colloquial phrases are voiced by professional translators. What is important for understanding and correct pronunciation of memorized words (in context or separately).

What should be especially noted is that ABBYY Lingvo has good technical support. Help will be provided by the Lingvo forums and the community of translators. There is even a fan club, but the latest news is dated 01.08.06. This will help you find answers to your questions, and developers - to improve the product.

PROMT Dictionaries

Developer: PROMT
Program website: www.promt.ru

PROMT offers four editions of the dictionary to choose from. The Expert edition is intended for translation professionals, the Professional edition is for corporate customers, the Standard edition is for a small office, PROMT 4U is a product for a home user. “Home” PROMT has the lowest price and, logically, the least functionality.

It should be said that the full version of the translator requires sufficient resources, although the official requirements are very low.

System requirements for installing the PROMT Professional dictionary:

Operating system Windows 2000 SP 3 (or higher), Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or higher); Windows Vista; .NET Framework 3.0 component (installed with the product), Pentium 500 MHz processor or higher; 64 MB of RAM.

The PROMT shell is made in the Vista style, or more precisely, it is a Microsoft Office 2007 interface. And it is clear that a computer with a frequency of 500 MHz is not optimal for running PROMT. Otherwise, the program package contains a lightweight shell - “Lightweight PROMT Editor”. In full-featured versions (Professional) it is installed separately.

The PROMT dictionary is integrated with office applications (Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint 2000–2007), Microsoft Outlook 2000–2007, ICQ, Adobe Acrobat, OpenOffice Writer and Mozilla Firefox. In the context and main menu of the application, a menu appears with commands for quick translation of text, document. In other cases, for translation, you need to refer to the "Linguistic Editor" window.

The quality of translation of Promt dictionaries depends on the selected thematic dictionary. On the site www.promt.ru for a fee, you can purchase additional dictionaries and collections of dictionaries of various fields (Aviation, Automotive, Banking, Biology, etc.). In addition, in the Professional version, it is possible to connect online dictionaries from the .

For mobile users, of course, the Lingvo dictionary edition for Android will be interesting. ABBYY Lingvo Dictionaries offers two dozen languages for translation and a library of two hundred carefully compiled dictionaries. The installer for the mobile version of Lingvo can be downloaded.

TranslateIt!

Developer: TranslateIt! group
Website: www.translateit.ru

There are a lot of good translators and electronic dictionaries available for downloading to a computer. It is important to choose the most convenient program so that, on the one hand, it does not interfere with working at a computer, on the other hand, it does its good deed. In our opinion, the first of the reviewed programs - TranslateIt!, corresponds to these qualities.

When installing, we advise you to familiarize yourself with the tips, of which there are not so many, but which are ignored (out of habit). In general, these are not so much tips as a short guide to TranslateIt. So you can take a few minutes to save time in the future. In the quick settings, we advise you to disable the extra German language in most cases (it was absent in earlier versions of TranslateIt!).

Returning to the introduction. How can a program translate text from another language (for example, from English into Russian) without interfering with work? Here it should be understood that the program TranslateIt! is located in the notification area and is available at any time in the form of a dictionary. You can call it either with the help of hot keys or by right-clicking on the icon and selecting the “Open Dictionary” command.

But the main convenience of translation is tooltips. Hovering over a word displays the translation and transcription (in the case of the “Russian -> English” direction). In addition to transcription, the translator voices every word she knows.

The direction of the translation can be selected in the TranslateIt! or in a pop-up window when translating.

Thus, this method of translation gives a good effect in learning. If you don’t like or really interfere with the translation of a word that pops up with or without a reason, you can turn off this feature. As an option - assign a key that you need to hold down for a hint to appear.

There is a version of TranslateIt! for Mac OS and PDA. On the website of the program, various dictionaries and add-ons are presented for download. Any dictionary for TranslateIt can be downloaded by the user for free. One of the downloadable add-ons is an archive with voiced words (how they are correctly pronounced, and not synthesized by a computer, which often makes mistakes in “pronunciation”). By the way, the TranslateIt program is paid to use.

QDictonary - a good English-Russian dictionary

Developer: Anplex Software
Free electronic dictionary. Unfortunately, the development of the program has been suspended, and the search for the program site was unsuccessful. Officially it doesn't work anymore, at the same time, you can download an English-Russian translator and dictionary on a major software portal, for example, here: www.zipsoft.ru/developer/1185957408_anplex_software.html. The latest version of QDictonary is 1.6.

The principle of operation of the electronic dictionary QDictonary is the same as in TranslateIT: in two words, contextual translation of the word into English. The program is minimized in the notification area, when you hover over a word, a hint appears. Contextual translation QDictonary only works with editable text. You will have to enter any program inscriptions manually through the dictionary window.

Using the English Dictionary in the QDictonary Translator

Thus, we get a free and less functional replacement for the English-Russian translator TranslateIT. We hope that soon the developers will “remember” their dictionary and improve it.

Babylon

Developer: Babylon Ltd.
Program website: www.babylon.com

Electronic dictionary for 18 languages. Apparently, for the compactness of the distribution, the developers did not include dictionaries in the program, in fact. Initially, the program persistently sends for the result of the translation to the Internet. Thus, it works as a dictionary and online translator from English. For standalone operation of Babylon at www.babylon.com, you need to download add-ons ranging in size from 7 to 13 MB. And only after installing a certain dictionary will the translation of the word into English or another language be available offline. The translation capabilities are not impressive: when translating into English, no transcription is indicated. Spell check works, Babylon provides a list of replacement options. When translating, the drop-down menu displays different forms of the word.

The program interface is quite convenient: a small window for entering a word and all sorts of function keys. Using the sliders, you can control the window color, transparency, font size. By default, contextual translation is triggered by pressing the Ctrl key and right-clicking on the translated word. The result is displayed in the same dictionary window.

Alas, this translator has a number of disadvantages. Babylon "sin" adware-advertising. If you select the default installation option, the browser start page will be replaced and an ad bar will appear. By the way, the main page of the site describes the advantages of Babylon over other dictionaries. Meanwhile, the program itself needs significant improvement to be compared with the same TranslateIT!. You can talk about the shortcomings for a long time, but what was the reason for mentioning the program in today's review? It found its users thanks to its simplicity. Let's not forget about the possibility of both offline and online translation from English, which is also a plus.

Help is attached to Babylon, however, in English. And why not translate it by means of the program?

Multitran

Developer: Andrey Pominov
Program website: www.multitran.ru

Several distributions of Multitran are available for download, depending on the number of terms. There is a version for 2000 terms (2 MB in size), and there is also a version for 400,000 (31 MB), and even a million words (65 MB). First of all, the program is designed for professional translators. She easily translates not only words into English, but also professional terms and jargon.

Translation of words into English and vice versa in the Multitran program

Dictionary databases are constantly expanding - almost daily. You can absolutely freely update the program's dictionaries through online updates (in manual or automatic modes).

The translator is easy to learn thanks to its intuitive interface. True, it is not clear why the interface is in English by default. You can change it to “ours” with the “View - Russian messages” command in the program menu. In the settings, you can also exclude terms of a certain subject from the list, leaving only those that are of particular interest to you.

Of the minuses: the program shell is outdated, some program files are dated 1999. And in the yard 2008. From the pros: good support, in particular, a list of questions and answers on the site multitran.ru. By the way, the online version of the Multitran dictionary allows you to translate expressions from 10 foreign languages.

Belazar

Developer: Oleg Ozarovsky
Program website: www.belazar.belinter.net

As an exception, we decided to mention a program from a domestic developer. Belazar is a good electronic translator in Belarusian-Russian-Belarusian directions. He does not translate from foreign languages. In student circles, Belazar is popular, and not always because of the illiteracy of this very environment.

The quality of the translation is good, much better than the translation from English into Russian of any translation program. This is probably due to the proximity of the two official languages. In combinations of words, you have to correct errors, change incorrectly translated words. The program has “intelligent translation correction” and spell check, which only improves the quality of the translation. Even if Belazar does not “know” a certain word, she corrects it according to Belarusian rules.

The good news is that Belazar is improving, and dictionaries are replenished with new words, word forms and short expressions. Important: you will need a dictionary to work with the program. You can download it on the program's website, in "Downloads".

Hello! Dear friends, can you imagine your life without modern technology? I suppose not, and it is especially difficult to imagine the absence of a computer. The computer has taken a very important position in all areas of activity. That is, over the past decades, the computer has become a way to spend interesting leisure time, as well as an integral part in many areas of work: engineering, medicine, etc.

Many programs, computer "innovations" are developed abroad and distributed around the world. It happens that the program does not have the Russian language, but for sure, when you install it, you will find English in the list of languages. So there is a need to know the basic dictionary of computer terms in English. In addition, many of the programs have a certain number of identical terms, which greatly simplifies the task of studying them, since they are found in almost all programs. Thus, it will not be difficult to remember their translation and meaning over time.

For example, in any program you will encounter

  • open- open
  • file- file
  • error- error, etc.

In addition to the fact that knowledge of computer terms is useful to many in their work, it will be useful for others in non-professional work, for example, to install a program on a computer. Almost always during installation, you will encounter words such as:

  • next- Further
  • cancel- cancel
  • to close all other applications- close all applications
  • accept- to accept

English computer terms Mastery of a dictionary of computer terminology will increase your computer "literacy". Those who use a computer for an impressive period of time mistakenly consider themselves "advanced" users. In fact, encountering an English term often becomes an insurmountable obstacle.

Another argument for you to still learn a dictionary of English computer terms is the fact that many of them are borrowed in Russian. It is well known that the computer has become one of the reasons for the intensive use of anglicisms in the Russian language for the last half century. For example, the word " feast"comes from the English words" peer”, which means “accomplice” in translation and has acquired a new word meaning: a client participating in the distribution in programs such as torrent.

Computer and global system Internet

As mentioned a little above, the computer and the Internet have become the causes of the emergence of anglicisms in the Russian language, they change the Russian vocabulary with amazing speed. You are right in thinking that there is nothing wrong with that. However, imagine that you hear the following dialogue on the street:

I changed mine yesterday avik, poured Jolie to himself. And set myself aku Best

  • avik (from the English "avatar") - means a picture that serves as a "face" on forums and blogs
  • aka (from the expression "also known as", translated "also known as") - means nickname, that is, the name by which the network user is known

Okay, I'll be aware. What is it you?

What is your opinion? Does it sound Russian? Of course not. All this is reminiscent of some strange, ridiculous slang. Why did it happen? Yes, because many, due to ignorance of the translation into Russian, began to distort English words, adding only Russian endings.

That is why today's topic is relevant, since the study of the following will help you not speak a fictional half-Russian-half-English language. You will be able to keep a purely Russian language, and if necessary, you will not be embarrassed by the program in English.
