After the hot and smoky summer of 2010, every Petersburger knows that in the heat you need to drink a lot, sleep well and, if possible, not work. Is it worth believing the generally accepted advice, said Alexander Meltser, MD, Dean of the Medical and Preventive Faculty of the North-Western State Medical University. Mechnikov.

Ice cream

“Doctor Peter” asked the doctor if ice cream, which, as you know, is high in sugar, can thicken the blood and thereby disrupt the functioning of the cardiovascular system, which already works with redoubled force in the heat. Alexander Vitalyevich reassured all lovers of sweets that nothing would happen from ice cream and even from two. But what you really should be afraid of is frozen foods.

The main danger of summer is microbiological contamination of products. Ice cream that has been defrosted and then refrozen can cause. Therefore, I would warn against buying ice cream from street sellers who store it in the sun and do not observe the temperature regime,” explained Alexander Meltzer.

Dr. Peter

The main scientific provisions formulated by the author on the basis of the research:

  1. Occupational risk assessment should be an integral part of social and hygienic monitoring and is not opposed to the system of state regulation. Moreover, the risk methodology is an adequate complement to the hygienic classification of labor and can be successfully used in the sanitary and hygienic characterization of workplaces.
  2. The occupational risk assessment methodology makes it possible to predetermine adequate management decisions to limit the risk and optimize the working conditions of employees, develop organizational, technical, medical and preventive measures, and prioritize the financing of recreational activities.
  3. The indicators of the health status of workers obtained using the presented methodology, and, above all, the prognostic levels of occupational risk, diverge from the data of official statistics of occupational pathology. The reasons for this, along with social factors, are the lack of focus on periodic medical examinations and, as a result, the untimely detection of occupational pathology.
  4. A quantitative assessment of the degree of risk of damage to the health of workers from the action of harmful and dangerous factors of the working environment and workload, according to the likelihood of health disorders, taking into account their severity, can be the basis for determining the economic damage from the impact of these factors, as well as the basis for developing a system of insurance for production risks.
  5. The occupational risk assessment methodology is an important additional mechanism and basis for planning and implementing control and supervision measures and an effective tool for social and hygienic monitoring, coordination of the activities of the service with the executive authorities in the field of labor protection and medical institutions in terms of improving the effectiveness of preliminary and periodic medical inspections.
