An excerpt characterizing the 119th Guards Airborne Regiment

Despite the fact that Kutuzov expelled everyone superfluous from the headquarters, after the changes made by Kutuzov, Boris managed to stay at the main apartment. Boris joined Count Benigsen. Count Benigsen, like all the people with whom Boris was, considered the young Prince Drubetskoy an invaluable person.
There were two sharp, definite parties in command of the army: the party of Kutuzov and the party of Benigsen, the chief of staff. Boris was with this last game, and no one, like him, was able, paying obsequious respect to Kutuzov, to make it feel that the old man was bad and that the whole thing was being conducted by Benigsen. Now came the decisive moment of the battle, which was to either destroy Kutuzov and transfer power to Bennigsen, or, even if Kutuzov won the battle, make it feel that everything was done by Bennigsen. In any case, big awards were to be distributed for tomorrow and new people were to be put forward. And as a result, Boris was in an irritated animation all that day.
After Kaisarov, other of his acquaintances approached Pierre, and he did not have time to answer the questions about Moscow with which they bombarded him, and did not have time to listen to the stories that they told him. Every face showed excitement and anxiety. But it seemed to Pierre that the reason for the excitement expressed on some of these faces lay more in matters of personal success, and he could not get out of his head that other expression of excitement that he saw on other faces and which spoke of not personal, but general questions. , matters of life and death. Kutuzov noticed the figure of Pierre and the group gathered around him.
“Call him to me,” said Kutuzov. The adjutant conveyed the wish of his Serene Highness, and Pierre went to the bench. But even before him, an ordinary militiaman approached Kutuzov. It was Dolokhov.
- How is this one? Pierre asked.
- This is such a beast, it will crawl everywhere! answered Pierre. “Because he is disgraced. Now he needs to get out. He submitted some projects and climbed into the enemy’s chain at night ... but well done! ..
Pierre, taking off his hat, bowed respectfully to Kutuzov.
“I decided that if I report to your grace, you can drive me away or say that you know what I am reporting, and then I will not be lost ...” Dolokhov said.
- So-so.
“And if I am right, then I will benefit the fatherland, for which I am ready to die.”
- So-so…
“And if your lordship needs a man who would not spare his own skin, then if you please remember me ... Maybe I will be useful to your lordship.
“So ... so ...” repeated Kutuzov, looking at Pierre with a laughing, narrowing eye.
At this time, Boris, with his courtly dexterity, advanced next to Pierre in the vicinity of the authorities, and with the most natural look and not loudly, as if continuing the conversation that had begun, said to Pierre:
- The militia - they directly put on clean, white shirts to prepare for death. What heroism, Count!
Boris said this to Pierre, obviously in order to be heard by the brightest. He knew that Kutuzov would pay attention to these words, and indeed the brightest turned to him:
What are you talking about the militia? he said to Boris.
- They, Your Grace, in preparation for tomorrow, for death, put on white shirts.
- Ah! .. Wonderful, incomparable people! - said Kutuzov and, closing his eyes, shook his head. - Incredible people! he repeated with a sigh.
- Do you want to smell gunpowder? he said to Pierre. Yes, nice smell. I have the honor to be an admirer of your wife, is she healthy? My retreat is at your service. - And, as is often the case with old people, Kutuzov began to absently look around, as if forgetting everything he needed to say or do.
Obviously, remembering what he was looking for, he lured Andrei Sergeyich Kaisarov, the brother of his adjutant, to him.
- How, how, how are Marina's poems, how are poems, how? That he wrote on Gerakov: “You will be a teacher in the building ... Tell me, tell me,” Kutuzov spoke, obviously intending to laugh. Kaisarov read ... Kutuzov, smiling, nodded his head in time with the verses.
When Pierre moved away from Kutuzov, Dolokhov, moving towards him, took his hand.
“I am very glad to meet you here, Count,” he said to him loudly and not embarrassed by the presence of strangers, with special determination and solemnity. “On the eve of the day on which God knows which of us is destined to remain alive, I am glad to have the opportunity to tell you that I regret the misunderstandings that have been between us, and would like you to have nothing against me. Please forgive me.
Pierre, smiling, looked at Dolokhov, not knowing what to say to him. Dolokhov, with tears in his eyes, hugged and kissed Pierre.
Boris said something to his general, and Count Benigsen turned to Pierre and offered to go with him along the line.
“You will be interested,” he said.
“Yes, very interesting,” said Pierre.
Half an hour later, Kutuzov left for Tatarinov, and Bennigsen, with his retinue, including Pierre, rode along the line.

Benigsen from Gorki went down the high road to the bridge, to which the officer from the mound pointed out to Pierre as the center of the position, and near which rows of mowed grass, smelling of hay, lay on the bank. They drove across the bridge to the village of Borodino, from there they turned left and past a huge number of troops and guns drove to a high mound on which the militias were digging the ground. It was a redoubt, which did not yet have a name, then it was called the Raevsky redoubt, or barrow battery.
Pierre did not pay much attention to this redoubt. He did not know that this place would be more memorable for him than all the places in the Borodino field. Then they drove across the ravine to Semyonovsky, where the soldiers were pulling away the last logs of huts and barns. Then, downhill and uphill, they drove forward through the broken rye, knocked out like hail, along the road to the flushes [a kind of fortification. (Note by L.N. Tolstoy.) ], also then still dug.
Bennigsen stopped at the fleches and began to look ahead at the Shevardinsky redoubt (which had been ours yesterday), on which several horsemen could be seen. The officers said that Napoleon or Murat was there. And everyone looked eagerly at this bunch of riders. Pierre also looked there, trying to guess which of these barely visible people was Napoleon. Finally, the horsemen drove off the mound and disappeared.
Benigsen turned to the general who approached him and began to explain the whole position of our troops. Pierre listened to Benigsen's words, straining all his mental powers to understand the essence of the upcoming battle, but felt with chagrin that his mental abilities were insufficient for this. He didn't understand anything. Bennigsen stopped talking, and noticing the figure of Pierre listening, he suddenly said, turning to him:
- You, I think, are not interested?
“Oh, on the contrary, it’s very interesting,” Pierre repeated, not quite truthfully.
From the flush, they drove even more to the left along the road, winding through a dense, low birch forest. In the middle of it
forest, a brown hare with white legs jumped out in front of them on the road and, frightened by the clatter of a large number of horses, was so confused that it jumped for a long time along the road in front of them, arousing general attention and laughter, and only when several voices shouted at him, rushed to the side and hid in the thicket. Having traveled two versts through the forest, they drove out to a clearing on which stood the troops of Tuchkov's corps, which was supposed to protect the left flank.
Here, on the extreme left flank, Bennigsen spoke a lot and ardently and made, as it seemed to Pierre, an important order from a military point of view. Ahead of the disposition of Tuchkov's troops was an elevation. This elevation was not occupied by troops. Bennigsen loudly criticized this mistake, saying that it was foolish to leave the high ground unoccupied and place troops under it. Some generals expressed the same opinion. One in particular spoke with military vehemence that they were put here to be slaughtered. Bennigsen ordered in his name to move the troops to the heights.

Perhaps, among all the formations of the Airborne Forces, it will be difficult to find another regiment with such a rich history. 119 PDP stood at the very origins of the most famous and respected branch of the military - the Airborne Forces.

119 pdp on guard of the interests of the Motherland

The roots of the 119th Guards Airborne Regiment go back to a difficult time for the country, when the Nazi troops still consoled themselves with the hope of world domination. The formations that became the foundation for 119 infantry regiments were formed in 1942 and distinguished themselves in the battles for Staraya Russa, in the Battle of Kursk and in the crossing of the Neman River.

The very name of the 119th Guards Regiment of the Airborne Forces was given to the unit in November 1948. The first place of deployment is the area of the city of Polotsk in Belarus.

By March 25, 1949, 119 Guards. The PDP is relocated to the city of Marijampole, Lithuanian SSR, where it takes an active part in the liquidation of bandit formations of local nationalists, the so-called. "forest brothers".

The help of paratroopers from Marijampole was required during the Hungarian events of 1956, as well as in Prague in 1968. The personnel of the 119th Airborne Regiment successfully proved itself in Eastern Europe, having completed the tasks set by the government and the command of the Airborne Forces.

From November 22, 1988 to May 24, 1989, the 119th Airborne Regiment was stationed in Baku, where massacres of Armenian quarters and massacres of ethnic minorities began. From August 1999 to July 2003, the 119th Airborne Regiment conducted dozens of complex combat operations in Chechnya and Dagestan. The capture of height 323.1 near the village of Gamiakh on September 8, 1999, in which 4 pdr 119 pd scored, is one of the most brilliant operations of the entire campaign.

Farewell to 119 pdp

The next wave of reforming the Airborne Forces put an end to the history of the 119th Guards Parachute Regiment. On July 16, 2005, a farewell ceremony was held for the Battle Banner of the regiment and its transfer to the 45th separate reconnaissance regiment (45 ORP).

Let the 119th Guards Order of Alexander Nevsky Airborne Regiment finish its combat career, but such formations will never go out of memory.

He especially distinguished himself in battles during the crossing of the Sunzha River and the expansion of the occupied bridgehead. In 1995, Vitaly Talabaev was deputy commander of a parachute company, and in the same year he was appointed its commander. In 1997 he graduated with honors from the Higher Officer Courses "Shot". Upon completion of the course, he was appointed deputy commander of the 119th Guards Airborne Regiment in the 106th Guards Airborne Division. He was one of the best officers of the regiment, ahead of schedule he received the military ranks of "senior lieutenant" and "captain", a candidate for master of sports in three disciplines at once (officer triathlon, kettlebell lifting, swimming). In September 1999, parts of the division fought against Chechen gangs that invaded to Dagestan. On September 13, one of the battalions of the division was transferred to the Novolaksky district of the republic, where the situation was rapidly deteriorating. Captain Talabaev carried out reconnaissance of the area. During its implementation, a significant number of militants were discovered, hastily constructing fortified positions. He directed air and artillery fire at the enemy, causing significant damage. After the artillery raid, he moved forward on the airborne combat vehicle and destroyed the surviving enemy mortar with the calculation with cannon-machine-gun fire. Unable to withstand the onslaught of the paratroopers, the militants began to retreat. Vitaly Talabaev organized the pursuit of the enemy. At the same time, he personally destroyed the car with 8 militants in it. However, during further pursuit, the BMD was blown up by an anti-tank mine. The entire crew, including Captain Talabaev, died. A few days later, news came to the unit that the brave officer had been awarded the military rank of Major. He was buried in Samara at the Rubizhnoye cemetery
For courage and heroism shown during the liquidation of illegal armed formations in the North Caucasus region, by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of December 30, 1999, Major Talabaev Vitaly Viktorovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously). He was awarded the Order of Courage (1995), medals. In September In 2011, a monument-memorial dedicated to the graduates of the school who died in the line of duty and in the performance of international duty was opened at the Yekaterinburg Suvorov Military School, on which the name Talabaeva V.V.

One of the conscripts says:
I had a chance to do military service in the 119th Guards Airborne Regiment, after graduating from the KMB I ended up in the 2nd Battalion. Fate brought me to many people, but among them were those who stuck in my memory in the good sense of the word and whom I will never forget One of them is Vitaly Talabaev. When I came to the battalion, he commanded 4 PDRs. The company was the most athletic in the battalion, and this, of course, is his merit. was the best in the regiment. Despite the fact that he was 24 years old, he was a young guy, in principle, and already the commander of a parachute company. Always athletic, active, smart, handsome, a real Landing Force with a capital letter. at kettlebell lifting competitions, the female part of the regiment shouted: “Vee-ta-lik! Vi-ta-lik!”). The best runner of the regiment, weight lifting, skiing, swimming. bodybuilding appearance ... A real role model. Before the army, my friends and I, I remember, bre they played action movies with Van Damme, Stallone. And here such people serve, live, real, this Hollywood, taken together with their rangers, is just relaxing.
Talabaev was called a Fan. I have never met such zeal for service and love for the Airborne Forces. Let us continue to be accused of airborne chauvinism, they will not understand this. , and mechanics-everyone. I remember we drove off to jump to Tula, and he was on vacation, so what was our surprise when he arrived on his own two days later !!! And not in order to flatten there, but examined - he helped to pack parachutes, made jumps several times a day and was generally everywhere with the unit. walking just like a wall, he came in a cape with a sentry commander to check. “It’s about such people that films should be made and shown on TV,” I thought. After some time, he left, and when he returned, he already had captain stars. He became the chief of staff of the battalion, became his company commander, as he said and, friend, Sergey Orlov .. As it may seem, such work is staff, sedentary. But this is not about Talabaev. otherwise, nothing has changed, and the exercises were his, and he went to the field exits-jumps with everyone in one column, just like everyone sweating in the heat or blown by all the winds in the cold.
It also stuck in my memory - he somehow brought his little daughter, walked with her by the hand - such a contrast - a mighty landing and a little girl are walking along the corridor.
Even when it was very difficult, the thought that fate brought together such people gave strength. And even if it was not for long, I am proud of it.
Vitaly Talabaev was still shown on TV - exactly a year later, when I retired, I turned on the TV on autopilot after work - on the first channel they showed a story about his funeral. I was shocked. They died with Sergey Orlov on the same day -13 September 1999, their BMD was blown up by a land mine.
He was buried at the Rubezhnoye cemetery in the city of Samara. He received the rank of major posthumously, and a few months later they were awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
A few years later, the 119th regiment was disbanded, that's how we treat heroes. It's a pity.
And recently, a street in Samara was named after V. Talabaev.
G. Shpak once said: "He was one of the best airborne officers."
Everlasting memory...
