Internet Explorer 9 is Microsoft's attempt to catch up with already far-flung competitors. In this version, IE has become similar to such popular browsers as , and . A number of features have been copied from different browsers. Tabbed interface, visual bookmarks, speed dialing of site addresses - all this has finally appeared in IE.

An interesting feature of Internet Explorer 9 is the search for site addresses as the user types them. That is, the search is performed not in the history of visited sites, but on the Internet. As a result, it turns out that the browser often gives you the address even before you write it, and this is convenient. This feature was borrowed from Google Chrome.

There is, however, one feature not found in any of the major popular browsers. This is pinning a bookmark to the Windows taskbar. If you need constant access to a page, you can launch it directly from the taskbar and it will open in Internet Explorer. In IE, there is no way to fix tabs on the tab bar (as in Firefox and Chrome), but there is such an original feature. Which is more convenient is up to you.

Internet Explorer 9 includes protection from malicious sites, graphics hardware acceleration, and support for all the latest standards.

Editor's personal opinion

Despite the fact that Internet Explorer can now be called a modern browser, many users remain distrustful of it. Microsoft has never been a leader in this area, and IE was popular only because it is included with the operating system. And now the situation has not changed. The latest attempt to save the day in version 9 is unlikely to greatly increase the number of IE users. This is already so obvious that even the company itself has talked about the possibility of including not IE, but Firefox in Windows! I don't think there is more to say...

Our new approach started with a regular cadence of meaningful platform previews. IE9 will be available to Windows customers via Windows Update. Machines running the IE9 beta or release candidates will be upgraded to the final release automatically. Now let's move on to the disadvantages of Internet Explorer and the browser in general. The thing is that Internet Explorer itself does not have a built-in downloader, that is, when downloading a file, you cannot pause and continue downloading later (as, for example, Mozilla or Opera suggest). In most cases, Internet Explorer refers to external download managers such as Download Master. It is also impossible to say that this program works faster than previous versions or competing offers. Of course, Internet Explorer blocks pop-ups, unwanted ads and has an anti-phishing system, but there are some pitfalls here. There are only minimal settings in the default settings. If you want to configure the browser so that it works in the way described above, you will have to go into the browser's properties and manually set or disable the necessary and unnecessary controls (executing and managing ActivX elements, executing scripts, etc.)

The only thing worth noting is that in this version there is a compatibility view button right on the browser bar. This means that if the site was created for a browser or system version lower than the one you are using, you can always present this page for previously released versions. This is similar to the same Microsoft Office Word, when a document created in the latest version can be opened using the previous one and vice versa.
