Long ago, in a small Indian village, there lived a poor but very pious woman who worshiped the god Vishnu, the god of all living things. Every morning this holy woman performed puja, a sacred ceremony, in front of the statue of the god that stood in her house. She brought flowers and fruits, burned incense, and then wiped and dressed the statue, while reciting prayers and hymns in honor of Vishnu. She loved her god and expressed this love in such a symbolic way. And her heart was filled with love and joy.
Once Vishnu, touched by the selfless love of this woman, decided to appear to her. The woman was shocked by a miracle - after all, her god was in front of her. Tears of joy streamed down her cheeks.
“You touched me with your worship,” the god said. - I decided to reward you. Ask me what you want, and I will fulfill your most cherished desire.
“Please, lord,” she finally said in a trembling voice, “give me some more time to think. I can't collect my thoughts."
“Think as much as you like,” Vishnu replied with compassion, smiled and disappeared.
The woman was confused. What should she do? How can she make this important choice? She decided to ask her friends for advice, thinking that they would be more reasonable.
The next day, she called all her friends and asked them: “What would I wish for?”
“Ask for money,” advised the first friend. “If you have money, you can buy whatever you want.”
“No, don’t ask for money,” objected the second. What does wealth mean if you don't have health? Without health, you will not be able to enjoy what money will bring you. I advise you: ask for good health.
“Health is not the most important thing,” a third intervened. “Ask for longevity and tell God a specific number.”
The husband of the holy woman, who himself did not really believe in the gods and was not fond of lofty matters, listened to all these advices.
"All your friends are fools," he finally said. “If God has promised to fulfill your every desire, then why don’t you ask him to fulfill your most cherished desire?”
The woman listened attentively to her friends and her husband, but she did not like any of their advice.
Weeks passed, then months, and she was still thinking about what she would ask Vishnu. This task tormented her so much that, without realizing it, she stopped worshiping Vishnu, stopped performing her traditional morning ritual. She stopped thinking about how she loves her god. She stopped singing hymns and reciting prayers in his honor. Her mind was completely engrossed in what she would ask the god. Very soon, the woman ceased to enjoy life. Her love for Vishnu began to dry up.
And finally the day came when the woman felt that peace and tranquility had left her soul. Terrified, she fell to her knees and begged: “O great Vishnu! Help me! You promised that you would fulfill my every wish, and you asked me what I want. But I can't answer your question and can't think of anything else. Please, I beg you, tell me what to ask for!”

My cherished desire and the solution of the Universe
This incident happened to me when I was a student. I was poor and ugly, so women did not indulge me with their attention. But, remembering the “heavenly office”, where our every action is taken into account, I tried not to get angry, and carried bags for my grandmothers.

My cherished desire was to meet a girl ... But I came across beautiful and capricious girls. Here, apparently, I still got angry at life and made such an order: I want such a girl to give me a coat!!!
And she appeared ... At that time, I chose to do ballroom dancing - one of the capricious beauties recommended. And the calculation was simple: there are always not enough boys there. Very soon, a partner appeared: pretty, chubby, she doesn’t take her eyes off me. I decided - here it is, the same one. The cherished wish came true. But…

The girl did her best to please me, even to the point that she helped me put on a coat in the wardrobe when we already went home. It would seem, not a girl - but a dream of a poet, if not for one thing ... We had absolutely nothing to talk about ...

“Only if you really, really want to,” he picked up her serious tone, but immediately smiled again: “Very, very much, you understand? If this becomes your most cherished desire. Yes, this is the same limitation. I cannot go against your will. For the living, I can only fulfill the main desires.
“I already have the most cherished desire,” she returned his smile. - A cherished desire is for that and cherished, to be the only one. For life. Well, or before execution, then something else may appear. It is so?
- Will you share? He answered the question with a request. His eyes took on a pleading expression. A hand touched the girl's cheek. It wasn't a caress, just her promise.

"I don't care," she said decisively. - I need only you. I am afraid of one thing: that you will quickly miss your power. And hate me for it. I won't be able to survive this.
They stood very close to each other. He cupped her face in his hands, peering into the amazing blue of her eyes:
“I can never hate you,” he said confidently. What is power to me without you? Dust. Believe me. The matter is quite different.
– In what? she asked softly. - Tell me.
“I don’t know if I’ll remember anything if I decide to take such a step,” he quietly explained his doubts. – I don’t know if I will remember you… But I don’t want to forget you. Never.
"Decide," she smiled a little. I will find you, I know. Most importantly, I will be sure of your existence. And then nothing will stop me. And when we meet there ... we will never part. And power ... our love will give it to us. One for two.
He leaned over and touched her lips. She closed her eyes, enjoying the kiss, but the bliss lasted only a few moments. He disappeared and she opened her eyes in her bedroom. The wonderful dream ended, they were again separated by an infinite number of alien worlds, the path through which would require a period much longer than a human life.
Outside the window was morning. An ordinary morning, but now it seemed amazing, because it was the morning of a completely new life. After all, she finally had a purpose. Not in a dream. Wake up.
She believed that they would meet. After all, he promised! And for many years of common dreams, he never broke promises ...
She knew that her beloved would not hesitate to give up power in order to overcome the distance separating them. She will take this step for her.
There will be little left for her: to find. And she will.
