Khayyam's creativity

Everything we see is only one appearance.
Far from the surface of the world to the bottom.
Consider the obvious in the world to be unimportant,
For the secret essence of things is not visible.
Translation by German Plisetsky

I have made knowledge my craft,
I am familiar with the highest truth and the basest evil.
I unraveled all the tight knots in the world,
Except for death, tied in a dead knot.
Translation by German Plisetsky

One work that is always shameful is to exalt oneself,
Are you so great and wise? - dare to ask yourself.
Let the eyes serve as an example - huge seeing the world,
They do not complain because they cannot see themselves.
Translation by B. Golubev

Although the wise man is not a miser and does not hoard wealth,
The world is bad for the wise without silver.
Under the fence the violet will fade from begging,
And the rich rose is red and generous!
Translation by German Plisetsky

Someone wise inspired me as I dozed off:
“Wake up! You can't become happy in a dream.
Give up this activity, which is like death,
After death, Khayyam, you will get a good night’s sleep!”
Translation by German Plisetsky

Nobility is born from suffering, friend,
Is it possible for every drop to become a pearl?
You can lose everything, just save your soul, -
The cup would be filled again if there was wine.
Translation by Gleb Semenov

He who from youth believes in his own mind,
In pursuit of the truth, he became dry and gloomy.
Claiming from childhood to know life,
Instead of becoming a grape, it turned into a raisin.
Translation by German Plisetsky

How long will you please all sorts of beasts?
Only a fly can give his soul for food!
Feed on the blood of your heart, but be independent.
It is better to swallow tears than to gnaw on scraps.
Translation by Gleb Semenov

You will say this life is one moment.
Appreciate it, draw inspiration from it.
As you spend it, so it will pass,
Don't forget: she is your creation.
Translation by K. Arseneva and Ts. Banu

There is no satisfaction from feigned love,
No matter how much the rotten light shines, there is no combustion.
Day and night there is no peace for a lover,
For months there is no moment of oblivion!
Translation by Gleb Semenov

Why suffer needlessly for the sake of common happiness -
It’s better to give happiness to someone close.
It’s better to tie a friend to yourself with kindness,
How to free humanity from its shackles.
Translation by German Plisetsky

To live your life wisely, you need to know a lot,
Remember two important rules to get started:
You'd rather starve than eat anything
And it’s better to be alone than with just anyone.
Translation by Osip Rumer

Don't let a scoundrel into your secrets - hide them,
And keep secrets from a fool - hide them,
Look at yourself among the people passing by,
Keep silent about your hopes until the end - hide them!
Translation by N. Tenigina

I know this kind of pompous asses:
Empty as a drum, and so many loud words!
They are slaves of names. Just make up a name for yourself
And any of them is ready to crawl in front of you.
Translation by Osip Rumer

Just the essence, how worthy of men, speak,
Only when answering - the words sir - speak.
There are two ears, but one tongue is not given by chance -
Listen twice and speak only once!
Translation by N. Tenigina

Wine is prohibited, but there are four “buts”:
It depends on who drinks wine, with whom, when and in moderation.
If these four conditions are met
Wine is allowed to all sane people.
Translation by Osip Rumer

It's not right to offend good people
It’s not appropriate to growl like a predator in the desert.
It is not smart to boast about the wealth you have acquired,
It is not proper to honor oneself for titles!
Translation by N. Tenigina

We change rivers, countries, cities...
Other doors... New Years...
And we can’t escape ourselves anywhere,
And if you go, you’ll only go nowhere.
Translation by I. Nalbandyan

You recognize the superiority of others, that means you are a husband,
If he is the master of his actions, then he is the husband.
There is no honor in humiliating someone who is defeated,
Being kind to those who have fallen in misfortune means a husband!
Translation by N. Tenigina

If a mill, a bathhouse, a luxurious palace
A fool and a scoundrel receives a gift,
And the worthy goes into bondage for bread -
I don't care about your justice, creator!
Translation by German Plisetsky

You, the Almighty, in my opinion, are greedy and old.
You deal blow after blow to the slave.
Paradise is the reward of the sinless for their obedience.
Would you give me something not as a reward, but as a gift!
Translation by German Plisetsky

It’s better to drink and caress cheerful beauties,
Why seek salvation in fasting and prayers?
If there's a place in hell for lovers and drunkards,
Then who do you order to be allowed into heaven?
Translation by German Plisetsky

Love is a fatal misfortune, but the misfortune is by the will of Allah.
Why do you blame what is always by the will of Allah?
A series of both evil and good arose - by the will of Allah.
Why do we need thunder and flames of Judgment - according to the will of Allah?
Translation by Vladimir Derzhavin

At heart you are an atheist with Scripture in your hand,
At least I memorized the letters in each line.
You hit the ground with your head to no avail,
Better hit the ground with everything that's in your head!
Translation by Alexander Shcherbakov

If only I had power over this evil sky,
I would crush it and replace it with another,
So that there are no obstacles to noble aspirations
And a person could live without being tormented by melancholy.
Translation by German Plisetsky

No one saw either heaven or hell;
Has anyone returned from there to our corruptible world?
But these ghosts are fruitless for us
Both fears and hopes are an unchanging source.
Translation by Osip Rumer

The one who gives the world as a gift to the lucky ones,
The rest gets hit after blow
Don’t worry that you had less fun than others,
Be glad that you suffered less than others.
Translation by German Plisetsky

Because the truth always gets out of hand
Don't try to understand something you don't understand, friend!
Take the cup in your hands, remain ignorant
There is no point, believe me, in studying science!
Translation by German Plisetsky

“Hell and heaven are in heaven,” say the bigots.
I looked inside myself and became convinced of the lie:
Hell and heaven are not circles in the palace of the universe,
Hell and heaven are two halves of the soul.

Be careful - villainous fate is nearby!
The sword of time is sharp, don’t be a superlative!
When fate puts halva in your mouth,
Be careful - don't eat... It contains sugar mixed with poison.
Translation by German Plisetsky

Over the years, the number of quatrains attributed to Khayyam grew and by the 20th century exceeded 5,000. He reflects on God, but rejects church dogmas; his poems contain irony and free-thinking, joy of life and enjoyment of every minute of it. Perhaps all those who feared persecution for freethinking and blasphemy attributed their writings to Khayyam.

Although it is almost impossible to establish exactly which of the poems really belong to Khayyam (if he composed poetry at all), in the modern world Omar Khayyam is known precisely as a poet, the creator of original philosophical and lyrical quatrains - wise, full of humor and slyness.

Omara Khayyam - about life, happiness and love:

Having seen the frailty of the world, wait a minute to grieve!
Believe me: it’s not for nothing that your heart is pounding in your chest.
Don’t grieve about the past: what happened has passed away.
Don't worry about the future: there is fog ahead...

Don't envy someone who is stronger and richer.
3and sunset always comes with dawn.
With this short life, equal to a sigh,
Treat it as if it was rented to you.

Everything is bought and sold,
And life openly laughs at us.
We are indignant, we are indignant,
But we buy and sell...

They say that drunkards will go to hell.
It's all nonsense! If only drinkers were sent to hell,
Yes, all the woman lovers follow them there,
Your Garden of Eden would become as empty as the palm of your hand.

Yes, in a woman, as in a book, there is wisdom.
Can understand its great meaning
Only literate. And don't be angry with the book,
Kohl, an ignoramus, could not read it.

We are a source of fun - and a mine of sorrow.
We are a receptacle of filth - and a pure spring.
Man, as if in a mirror, the world has many faces.
He is insignificant - and he is immeasurably great!

Those who have been beaten by life will achieve more.
He who has eaten a pound of salt values honey more highly.
He who shed tears laughs sincerely.
He who has died knows that he lives...

“Hell and heaven are in heaven,” say the bigots.
I looked inside myself and became convinced of the lie:
Hell and heaven are not circles in the palace of the universe,
Hell and heaven are two halves of the soul.

Isn’t it funny to save a penny all your life,
What if you still can’t buy eternal life?
This life was given to you, my dear, for a while, -
Try not to waste time.

To live your life wisely, you need to know a lot,
Remember two important rules to get started:
You'd rather starve than eat anything
And it’s better to be alone than with just anyone.

Don't do evil - it will come back like a boomerang,
Don't spit in the well - you will drink the water,
Don't insult someone of lower rank
What if you have to ask for something?

Don't betray your friends, you can't replace them,
And don’t lose your loved ones - you won’t get them back,
Don't lie to yourself - you'll find out over time
That you are betraying yourself with this lie.

The wind of life is sometimes fierce...
In general, however, life is good...
And it’s not scary when black bread
It's scary when a black soul...

No one can tell what roses smell like.
Another of the bitter herbs will produce honey.
If you give someone some change, they will remember it forever.
You give your life to someone, but he won’t understand.

On the one hand, I always say that you should only build relationships with a person with whom you feel comfortable. If in a relationship you have to endure, educate, bend, manipulate - all this indicates that the relationship is toxic, and its participants are deeply neurotic people. But on the other hand, there is also the other side of the coin, when all the guys are not good enough for a girl and she breaks off the relationship over and over again at the very beginning, because she is sure that she will find someone better. Let's figure out what's going on here.

Of course, everyone wants someone who doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, and always gives flowers, who is decent, wealthy, promising, charming, with a sense of humor, caring, courageous... And who would argue, it’s better to be healthy and rich than poor and sick. But this is all from the head. This is a calculation.

The problem is that no one has ever loved anyone for a specific merit. No one will tell you: “I love my husband because he doesn’t drink or smoke.” Or: “I fell in love with Vasya when I found out what his salary was.” You can respect, admire, but not love for your virtues.

Nevertheless, many girls prefer to build relationships on calculation, because they are disappointed in love. Well, they didn’t meet their love. And they decided that there is no love. Because it’s already been a long time, and Herman is still missing. And they say: “I’ll meet a good guy, and we’ll be happy.” But if you have a heart-to-heart talk with such a girl, it turns out that there was love in her life. Well, it doesn’t happen that in 25-30 years a person has never been in love. Something just went wrong: he left her, he didn’t want to get married, he treated her badly, and something else. It is especially traumatic if there were several such stories. Such a painful attitude is formed: love is suffering, I don’t want to suffer, which means I don’t need love.

Popular

Normal, healthy love, so to speak, will become possible as soon as the girl realizes her problem: for some reason she chooses the wrong guys over and over again. She is not confident in herself, she grew up in a toxic family, she has complexes - there could be a million reasons. But you need to understand yourself. A confident girl who is aware of her needs and respects her own and other people’s boundaries will definitely attract a person with a similar picture of the world, and they will certainly fall in love with each other. This is how life works: like attracts like. And if aggressors come to you over and over again, it means that you need them for some reason, you attract them. Maybe you had an aggressive father, maybe he beat your mother, and this painful family model took root in the subconscious. If you come across indifferent louts who are incapable of empathy, perhaps in your childhood love was replaced by provision: well-fed, healthy, toys - goodbye, what else do you need. Having dealt with this (perhaps on her own, perhaps with the help of a psychologist), the girl will change her life and discover that there are a lot of cool guys around with whom she can build healthy relationships. And you don’t have to go through it endlessly or worry about being left alone.

That is, the very problem of “getting ahead” or “marrying the first person you meet” will disappear as soon as “marriage of convenience is better than love” and “I must get married at any cost and as soon as possible” are removed from my mind.

I will say more: marriages of convenience are overwhelmingly doomed to collapse, unless it is a fictitious marriage by agreement of both parties. In another case, it will be physically unpleasant for one of the partners to share a bed with an unloved person, his voice and smell will irritate him, quarrels will inevitably break out, and he doesn’t want to make peace either... Therefore, first of all, you need to “repair” your ability to love and be loved, and secondly, stop considering all men as potential husbands, and start simply living.

Now about the “picky ones”. This one is good to everyone, but he doesn’t earn enough. And that one over there is rich, but he changes women like gloves. And this one seems to be faithful and devoted, but lives with his mother. We are looking further. What's behind this? Fear. Fear of relationships as such. Because there is no ideal. This is a collective image with which you isolate yourself from real life. It arises because people are not confident that they themselves are capable of building a normal relationship with a living person.

How to draw the line between pathology and normality? It's simple. Your feelings must match your thoughts. Once that happens, bingo, you're in the top ten. That is, in a relationship you should be comfortable on all levels, from emotional to physical and mental. When you are drawn to a person, but you are aware that he is objectively suitable for you. That it’s not just “I can’t live without him,” but “I want to live with this serious, reliable, decent and responsible man to whom I am very attracted.”

Will you meet him? If you read the fifth paragraph carefully, be sure to.

In love, we all get what we deserve. And our partner is always our reflection. How Little Raccoon was afraid of the one sitting in the pond. So don't take the stick. And smile.

To live your life wisely, you need to know a lot,
Remember two important rules to get started:
It’s better to starve than to eat anything;
It's better to be alone than with just anyone!

We read the poems of Omar Khayyam, not suspecting that this amazing man stood at the origins of algebra, developed astronomy and its sister, astrology. His great discovery was nutritional astrology: he was the first to compile a cookbook for the signs of the zodiac and invented many amazing recipes.

The only child in the family of a wealthy artisan, Omar, whose name translates as “life,” was the raison d’être for his parents. His life until the age of twenty was free and pleasant. In the madrasah he was taught by the best teachers - mathematicians, philosophers, doctors, astronomers and astrologers; he studied science with pleasure, wrote his first, still inept, poems and, like all poets, neglected the prose of life. If at home he sometimes had a chance to look into the kitchen, it was only to receive a tasty treat from his mother. But, as they say, all good things come to an end sooner or later. After the death of his parents, Khayyam had to flee from Nishapur, leaving his father’s rather significant fortune to be plundered...

The fugitive's canvas shoulder bag contained only a few of the most valuable books and a small supply of food. He set off, relying only on his strength and endurance. When my bruised legs were begging for a rest, and my head was spinning from the heat, a lonely house by the road appeared in the distance. On his threshold sat an old man who strongly reminded Omar of his father. “Come in, wanderer,” said the old man, expecting neither participation nor refusal.
- Do you have water, father? - Omar sat down next to him on the threshold.
- I have everything. “But I don’t have the strength to support my poor life,” the elder said slowly.
Omar carefully examined his interlocutor and realized that he was dying of exhaustion. The young man picked up the old man under the arms, carried him into the house and laid him on the bed. I ran to the ditch, brought water, gave the old man something to drink, and then went to the kitchen... And then for the first time I regretted that I had no idea how to cook food!

But there was nothing to do - the fear that the old man might die from exhaustion before his eyes forced him to act without delay. Omar found a hefty piece of beef in the pantry and cut it, glad that the strips turned out thin. He lit a fire and set a heavy copper cauldron to heat. Remembering that in my parents’ house meat was always served with vegetables, I went to the garden.
Omar suddenly felt strangely inspired - as if he had always known what he should do, but had just forgotten a little. Returning to the kitchen, he confidently set to work... He remembered the teachings of Ibn Sina, who claimed that a mixture of garlic, wine and soy sauce quickly returns lost strength to a person, and realized that meat, a most nutritious product, kept in this healing mixture will produce even tastier and healthier and will become a real medicine for the emaciated old man. Soon the beef was ready...
After salting and tasting a piece of meat with a pinch of vegetable side dish, Omar himself was amazed at how delicious it turned out! With a proud smile, he put the meat and vegetables in a small bowl and took it to the old man. He tasted:
- Oooh, son! You have a real gift! - and, shaking his gray head, looked significantly at the young man.
“I’m cooking for the first time,” Omar lowered his eyes. - Well, I saw my mother and the maids a couple of times fiddling with meat... But I liked this activity!

The old man greedily ate the treat without dropping a single piece. Omar, too, emptied his bowl in no time, folded his palms, thanked Allah for shelter and daily bread with a short prayer, and turned to the owner:
- I studied a lot of medical treatises at the madrasah. And the thought often came to me that food is the best cure for all diseases. The great Ibn Sina did not have time to give this science a worthy development, but it seems to me that I can continue and complete the work he started...
- May Allah grant you luck, son!
A few months later, Khayyam left the hospitable house by the road, leaving a surprisingly strong and rejuvenated old man in good health, and continued on his way. Having settled in Isfahan, he continued his studies in mathematics, wrote his first rubai, and at the same time enthusiastically learned to cook, collected and improved ancient recipes!

Rumors about Omar Khayyam, a man who knows how to cook amazing dishes, spread throughout Isfahan. One day, the great Sultan Malikshah himself sent his vizier to the poet with a proposal to become a court nadim.
For the next ten years, he organized lavish receptions and various entertainments for the ruler, invented more and more amazing recipes and developed astrological nutrition tables, in which he described in detail what food representatives of various zodiac signs should eat. (This work brought him truly worldwide fame - even today astrologers in many Eastern countries use his tables!)
After the death of the ruler, Omar Khayyam left the palace and went to Bukhara, where until his last day he was engaged in the construction of an observatory, observing the luminaries, and clarifying his calculations in the new science he created - nutritional astrology. He died at a ripe old age with a happy smile on his lips, writing comments on therapeutic diets...
