Is a real zombie apocalypse possible? Is a zombie apocalypse possible in real life: the likelihood of an uprising of the "living dead"

From television films, you already know everything to the smallest detail. Human existence turns into a daily struggle for survival. We'll have to stock up on water, food, medicines and weapons. And in this case, revolvers and rifles will never be superfluous. If people want to survive, they must run away from densely populated areas. Ideally, you need to find a secret bunker that protects against the invasion of a wandering and always hungry horde. Legions of zombies are expanding their ranks at a cosmic pace. They hunt for any person they meet on the path of a destroyed civilization. This is how television projects describe the zombie apocalypse.

Fortunately for us, from a biological point of view, the invasion of infected evil spirits on the planet is impossible, and here's why.

1. Weather conditions: hell

In the conditions of tropical latitudes in the month of August, unbearable stuffiness sets in. On the other hand, January in northern latitudes can pass for a freezer. Staying outdoors without protection in extreme conditions is simply not realistic. The unforgiving weather of the Earth worsens the conditions for the existence of rotting flesh. High heat and humidity promote the reproduction of insects and bacteria. The hot desert air will turn zombies into husks in a few hours. In winter, even the slightest blow will cause the skeletal system of the walking dead to completely collapse under its own weight. And we haven't even mentioned ultraviolet radiation, hurricanes, heavy rains with hail and snowstorms!

2. Central nervous system: failure

Our organisms are complex mechanisms, where each system is interconnected with each other. Muscles, tendons, skeleton and internal organs are controlled by the brain. When one element of a well-functioning system fails, everything goes wrong. In real life, a person runs the risk of being practically immobilized. This fact makes puzzling numerous stories about modern zombies that can move at the speed of a meteor, even if they lose half their flesh. They move in spite of everything, they are not embarrassed by the lack of brains, broken bones, atrophied muscles, rotting internal organs. Well, since many on-screen zombies suffer from extensive craniocerebral wounds, their central nervous system must be completely paralyzed.

3. Immunity: none

Viruses, fungi and bacteria have plagued mankind since the beginning of the world. They shorten our lifespan and make us miserable. Recently, the world has become aware of its most dangerous biological enemies: smallpox and HIV. Only the immune system makes us stay afloat and resist the onslaught of microscopic invaders. People with weakened immune systems inevitably face problems. Zombies are completely immune, so any bacteria that get inside them will be instantly eaten from the inside.

4. Metabolism: Crisis

Humans consume food, so they convert chemical energy into activity. This is how we live and breathe. Metabolism supports these processes. This term is all-encompassing, it covers all the chemical reactions that take place in the body. In theory, zombies feed on human brains, because they also need to function somehow. Only there is one problem: these creatures are not alive, which is why they do not have any metabolic capabilities. Therefore, if zombies do not have metabolic processes, they will not be able to transform tasty brains into energy.

5. Predatory flocks of vultures: a real threat

In nature, there are too many vultures and animals that eat carrion - hyenas, wolves, bears, coyotes, foxes and packs of vicious feral dogs. If the zombie apocalypse came, the surviving people would be afraid not only of walking monsters, but also of hungry wild predators. Even small animals rats, raccoons and opossums will be happy to go hunting. They only fear healthy people. But as soon as they smell the carrion, they immediately rush to the attack. So what awaits the walking dead when meeting with vultures? The answer suggests itself.

6. Sensory Organs Failed

Sight, taste, touch, hearing, smell - all the senses are the key to our survival. Without these five possibilities, a person will roam the world, consume poisonous plants, beat their heads against doorways, spill boiling water on their bodies. But as the zombies go through a constant process of decay, it is not clear how they manage to remain sighted and perform any of the vital actions in order to feast on human brains. When the process of decay starts, the eyes immediately suffer. The collapsed soft tissue would have left the zombies blind. Then the eardrums are deformed. How can a deaf and blind monster prey on its victims?

7. Spread of the virus: in doubt

Nature has developed some terrifying ways for germs to spread. Take, for example, bird flu or measles, which is spread through coughs and sneezes. 90 percent of people who come into contact with an infected person become ill. But how do the walking dead spread the infection? Everything that we are shown in horror films is completely ineffective. Somehow, the corpse must grab the person and then deliver a stinging bite. Well, if the creature is missing some limbs, this is too cruel a proposal. In order to overtake and bite the victim, it is necessary to expend enormous energy. And, as we already know, zombies have no internal resources. And finally: do you really think that a healthy vigilant person will not be able to cope with a decaying corpse with close physical contact? Cold-blooded and slow zombies will always lose in a fight with warm-blooded "brothers".

8 Wounds Never Heal

Before the invention of antibiotics, simple abrasions and cuts could be fatal for a person. If dirt and microbes penetrated the cut, they instantly spread into the internal tissues. But now we know well what personal hygiene and first aid are. We are familiar with soap, iodine and brilliant green. In addition, our tissues have a unique ability to regenerate and restore. Fortunately, these possibilities are completely closed to zombies. Their wounds, no matter how deep they are, never heal. Imagine what will happen to a sheet of paper from which a piece is cut off every day. Sooner or later it won't.

9 Digestive System: Gaping Holes

The human stomach is a muscular bag that can be filled with approximately 850 grams of food and drink at one meal. Of course, if you eat more on a regular basis, you can stretch this internal organ. Now imagine what will happen to the stomach of a monster that is ready to stuff itself with human brains without a break. In addition, if some systems do not function in zombies, then food can simply fall into nowhere. The gaping holes along the route of the esophagus - intestines will take care of this. Well, what will happen if undigested lunch begins to accumulate in the intestines? Imagine yourself.

10. Teeth: worn out

Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in our bodies. This tough shell helps us chew our food. But without proper dental care, teeth quickly deteriorate. Zombies never brush their teeth, their gums rot, and enamel cracks quickly turn into holes. No one will put dentures on them. In the end, the effort to bite seems completely pointless. Only in films, the teeth of the dead look like a formidable weapon.

Conclusion

So, we found out that to date, no virus, no fungal infection or radiation leak will lead to a zombie apocalypse from a biological point of view. And this means that we will be spared from escaping from the tenacious paws of hundreds of crazed monsters. They pose no real threat to humanity.

Because - life is ahead of the dream!

Maria Pimenova

The difference between a human and a rat is not so great, it is not for nothing that new drugs are being tested on rats. Now imagine that a little less than half of humanity (that's how many are infected with toxoplasmosis today) will lose their sense of self-preservation and lose their minds? (We mean even more than now.) This can happen if Toxoplasma decides to evolve.

You can say that she had enough time for this and it is unlikely that it will come to her mind, especially since she doesn’t even have a head! But don't forget the biological weapons programs. Perhaps scientists are developing the newest species of bacteria Toxoplasma gondii right now, and the horrific results of their own work do not bother them at all (because they are most likely already infected with Toxoplasma).

It should be noted here that, technically speaking, people infected with Toxoplasma cannot be considered zombies in the narrow sense, because they were never dead. But it will hardly comfort you if they start knocking on your windows.

neurotoxins

Some poisons can slow down your vital functions so much that doctors declare death. Such neurotoxins include, for example, fugu fish poison (in small quantities it causes paralysis and lethargic coma). Very often, after coming out of a coma, a person loses his memory and is able to perform only the simplest tasks: eat, sleep and wander with his arms outstretched forward.

How could this lead to a zombie apocalypse?

Actually, this has already happened in Haiti, the birthplace of the very word "zombie". If you don't believe me, ask a man named Clavius Narcissus. In 1980, he unexpectedly appeared in his native village and stated that all this time, that he was considered dead since 1962, he was a zombie. Clavius was recognized by his sister, despite the fact that she had attended his funeral 18 years earlier. The man claimed that he was forced to drink some kind of drink, after which the doctors declared him dead (a medical certificate was even found). But Clavius did not die, but served as a zombie to a certain bokor sorcerer.

However, sorcerers in Haiti used zombies (in which they killed people with the help of the poison of the toad bufo marinus and the plant with the speaking name "zombie cucumber") to work on sugar plantations.

The next time you put sugar in your tea, remember that it can be picked up by the industrious hands of zombies.

Fortunately, even if some very malicious sorcerer finds a way to poison most of the planet's population and turn them into weak-willed zombies, he will still not be able to turn them into bloodthirsty cannibals.

Virus

In the textbook movie for all zombie fans, 28 Days Later, the cause of the pandemic was a virus that turned people into mindless killers in a matter of seconds (15, to be boring). In reality, some mental disorders can lead to the same result. They are, of course, harmless. This was before mad cow disease appeared. The disease attacks the animal's brain, causing symptoms similar to rabies. The first cases of the disease were detected in 1968 in England, and then in other European countries.

How can this turn into a zombie apocalypse?

In a person infected with mad cow disease, behavior changes, movements become uncoordinated, sometimes convulsions, hallucinations and delirium occur. To date, there are not so many human cases of mad cow disease that we can seriously talk about an epidemic, but nevertheless this proves that the possibility of a contagious disease that affects the human brain theoretically exists. Such a virus will be transmitted through bites. You can call it "supercow madness".

neurogenesis

What do you know about stem cells? In principle, all you need to know about them is that they are used to regenerate dead cells. Thus, the interest of zombieologists (if such suddenly exist) may be directed to the restoration of the brain in a dead body with the help of stem cells.

How could this lead to a zombie apocalypse?

Brain death is perhaps the most unpleasant event that can happen to a person. Scientists have learned to grow organs, but if the brain has been without oxygen for a short time, then the nerve connections cannot be restored, which means the end of the human personality in the form in which it existed before. But with the achievements of modern science, scientists can reanimate the brain and, as a result, get a living being devoid of higher nervous activity. Just what we can call a real zombie - the walking dead.

The popularity of zombies has long gone beyond the horror genre. The "living dead" became the favorites of kids, fighting with plants in children's games. They are one of the typical enemies in fantasy shooters and TV series. Become an element of youth design in clothing. Are chilling horrors really a thing of the past, and today no one cares if a zombie apocalypse is possible? Let's try to figure out how relevant this topic is and what is the probability of the appearance of the "living dead" on the streets of modern cities.

Do zombies exist in real life?

Creatures with rotten flesh, snarling and pulling their hands and teeth to the brain, overgrown with many stories, legends and superstitions. They appear in mystical thrillers and melodramas, teen comedies much more often than their "colleagues" of vampires, adding a bit of humor or symbolizing the oppressed layers of society. In the world of cinema, the living dead are constant extras, which are divided into two main categories:

  1. Classic zombies are corpses that have risen from the graves, often not distinguished by intelligence and quick wit.
  2. The living dead are the result of some kind of pandemic that has turned most of humanity into aggressive carnivorous creatures.

What about reality? It is authentically known that zombies in the original sense are not a fiction of Hollywood directors. The word comes from one of the African languages and means "Dead Man's Soul". To the question "Who are zombies and do they exist?" the voodoo priest will answer in the affirmative, adding that he would not mind getting a couple of specimens for gardening.

  1. The rite of turning a person into a submissive slave, indeed, exists in this religion, but does not imply his real death. In Haiti, such practices are illegal.
  2. For the ritual of a potential zombie, the sorcerer needed a puffer fish containing a strong nerve poison - tetrodotoxin. A person who tasted the drug of a voodoo priest fell into a coma.
  3. Relatives mourned and buried, and then the "dead man" came to life - the poison was excreted from the body. However, the "zombie" was too confused and scared to return home. The sorcerer constantly drugged him with drugs and forced him to work.

Fictional "living dead" are distinguished by incredible vitality and strength. They are able to find victims by sound or smell. Neuroscientists have even published a book on the zombie brain to humorously understand the functioning of these strange creatures. In Andrey Cruz's book The Age of the Dead, the infected have a frightening effect, demoralizing not only ordinary survivalists, but also professional military personnel. Consider whether a zombie apocalypse is possible in real life.

  • Even an army of obedient slaves of a voodoo priest, who do not pay attention to pain and bullets, are not capable of causing a global catastrophe of civilization. A horde of this kind can be easily stopped by ordinary police or a special forces detachment. Enough sleeping pills to stop them from being dangerous.
  • In the event of an epidemic, the virus will be quickly localized and investigated. So far, there is not a single strain that turns a person into a superzombie. Sick people are weakened due to pathological disorders in the body and are not often able to bite even a doctor. The plague epidemic caused significant damage to the Medieval civilization, but the problem lay in the reduction of the population.
  • For the functioning of a living person, the coordinated work of many systems is required. After death, an irreversible process of decomposition occurs. The resurrected zombies will not be able not only to growl, but even to walk. Although their behavior can be explained by disturbances in certain areas of the brain, but stories with voodoo or an epidemic still remain more plausible.

Should you prepare for the zombie apocalypse?

Behind the crowds of aggressive "living dead" lies the fear of war, devastation, the collapse of civilization. All this has already happened before, is happening now and will happen in the future without any participation of revived or infected beings. There are also zombies in the natural world.

Over the past years, the theme of zombies has developed and taken a strong position in our culture.. Especially in recent years, the idea of a zombie apocalypse has been popular, in which the remnants of humanity are fighting for their place on the planet along with the walking dead, as in the TV series The Walking Dead.

Most often, the appearance of the first revived corpse is not mentioned anywhere and the secret of how it all began is not revealed. In some scenarios of disaster films, the beginning of the apocalypse is an infectious disease.

The organism's mutation is due to a pathogen being transmitted from one person to another by a virus (as in "Resident Evil") via a bite.

Often, the scenario for the beginning of the “end of the world” is an accident at a secret facility or in a secret scientific laboratory, from which a deadly virus breaks out, turning people into eternally hungry cannibal dead (“28 days Later”).

The appearance of aggressive zombies is also associated with magic, especially voodoo magic, because of which the zombie obeys someone's orders (as in the 1932 film "White Zombie") or a demon or an evil spirit is instilled into a dead body. Also, one of the options for the appearance of zombies is recognized as "punishment of the Lord", a kind of variant of burning out the brain, where there is only one goal - to eat.

Long proven cannot exist in the real world, even though the idea of a zombie apocalypse is fascinating; extreme survival in terrible conditions of the fight against a supernaturally strong enemy, almost indestructible.

Despite the romanticism of such a combination of circumstances - one on one with your own "I" and with a small group of people (if you're lucky), where you can find a connection with another person. After all, now it’s more difficult for people to find a common language, get out of the Internet space and establish contact with someone live, it’s another matter when everyone has no choice - romance!

There are several good reasons why zombies cannot exist and be part of the real world in principle. And only the power of magic can explain the existence of zombies.

1) First, often in movies, literature and games, the zombie brain is completely dead, driven solely by the endless hunger reflex. But the body cannot function without the brain! A dead body retains only some functions after death:

- hair and nails continue to grow;
- the growth rate of skin cells gradually decreases and stops with the loss of blood circulation within a few days;

- urination may occur due to muscle weakness;
- after the cessation of the heartbeat, the blood collects in the lowest place, depending on the position in which the person died, this can cause an erection, and during post-mortem relaxation and muscle contraction, ejaculation can also occur;

- defecation occurs due to weakening of the muscles and due to the gases released in the body;
- reflex movement of muscles associated with areas of the nervous system, which for some time after death can still remain active and send electrical signals to the muscles; at the same time, strong movement is impossible, slight muscle spasms are noted;

- during decay and activity of bacteria destroying the body, the amount of mucus and gases inside increases, and in combination with rigor mortis can sometimes lead to unpleasant and eerie sounds coming from a dead body, as if the dead man "speaks";

- gases accumulating inside the body can also serve as an unpleasant and extremely rare phenomenon of childbirth in a female corpse. This happens if the woman was pregnant during her lifetime, but after death the child’s corpse was not removed from the mother’s womb and was buried with her (they might not know about the pregnancy, an autopsy was not performed, or they were buried together due to religious beliefs). The gases accumulated in the decaying corpse lead to the posthumous expulsion of the fetus;

- brain activity persists after cardiac arrest, the time of brain activity can vary from several minutes to several days with certain drugs and under certain circumstances, although if the heart starts beating again, most often irreparable damage will be done to the brain due to oxygen starvation.

As you can see, the human body is not capable of continuing to function for too long after the fact of death, and the extent of its performance is limited to a few reflexes and minimal bodily functions.

2) Secondly, a decaying corpse, albeit infected with a supervirus, cannot move, walk, and even more so run, even if some part of the brain is alive and continues to send impulses to the limbs, because muscle cells are dead and impulses do not reach neurons to muscle fibers, which in turn cannot contract.

In rotting meat, the cells are dead, and any movement needs impulses. Even if the dead man is new and fresh, the impulses to his cells will come more slowly and less, because without blood supply, the vital activity of the cells is impossible, therefore, they will die, and decomposition will begin.

3) The heart does not work - tissues are not supplied with oxygen, important biochemical processes responsible for the production of energy with which the limbs move do not occur. In a body in which the heart and, accordingly, the lungs do not work, long-term aerobic processes, that is, movement, cannot occur, because there is no blood circulation, and there is no oxygen supply.

Hand twitching is a muscle spasm, standing on two legs and moving is a complex and energy-consuming process that, firstly, requires impulses from the brain, and, secondly, energy for movement.

At least in connection with these 3 important aspects, humanity will never experience a zombie apocalypse in all its glory. Do not loot in the ruins of your city, fighting off aggressive walking dead with a machete or shotgun in your hands. Raising a corpse from the grave and making it walk and attack others can only be done by magic, capable of moving even dead cells and a non-functioning brain.

The closest zombie apocalypse film to reality is 28 Weeks Later. In the film, the virus that turns people into "zombies" was called the rage virus and did not kill its carriers, depriving them of control over their actions and giving them superpowers, which is very similar to the rabies virus.

Also transmitted by saliva or bite, the virus attacked the brain and spread along nerve pathways. Emotions are controlled by the frontal lobes of the brain, which have deep-seated regions responsible for primitive emotions such as aggression and hunger.

The part of the brain responsible for actions receives signals from them and controls these emotions by triggering a stop function. It is obvious that when the brain is damaged, the stop functions cease to work, which causes fits of rage, and during aggression, hormones (testosterone, adrenaline, etc.) and enzymes are released that contribute to the emergence of superpower, which is already in the potential of the human body.

Yes, we should not forget that a person does not use the full potential inherent in us by nature. Yes, in extreme situations with powerful adrenaline rushes, people are able to run faster or lift heavy things that they could not normally lift. In these cases, the body works for wear and tear, but this is the functioning of the body controlled by the brain.

Given all of the above, based on scientific data on the topic of zombies and the zombie apocalypse, this problem can be dismissed as utter nonsense. True, if the physical world does not allow the possibility of the existence of zombies in reality, then there is still a world of magic formulas.

In the world of magical magic and spells, with work on the body and objects, everything is much simpler. Here, it is enough to whisper a spell, sprinkle with cunning powder on the fire, and any body changes its characteristics in the required direction. In this case, yes, not only gnarled sticks charged with megatons of atomic energy are possible here, but zombie creatures are also acceptable.

If the child is in the cemetery late at night, he will feel very strong fear. He will be afraid even if you leave him a gun so that he can protect himself. Why do you think? Maybe because on some instinctive level, all people understand that the Zombie Apocalypse is just a matter of time.

Our culture is full of stories about zombies, ranging from various religions to modern comics. Let us question, for example, what is said in the oldest literary work - "The Epic of Gilgamesh" - about the possibility of a zombie invasion:

“I will pave the way to the depths of the underworld,
I will raise the dead to eat the living,
There will be fewer then the living than the dead!”, the goddess Ishtar promises.

But you will say that these are all myths and fairy tales. After all, this can't really be?

In fact, this is quite possible. Here are five scientific reasons why the Zombie Apocalypse could actually happen.

But these are just mice, you say. How could this lead to the Zombie Apocalypse? By the way, yes, we forgot to mention that from 30 to 50% of people in different countries are infected with Toxoplasma. Maybe even you are one of them. Flip a coin!

As recent studies have shown, those infected show personality changes and are more likely to develop certain mental disorders.

So, imagine that suddenly half of the population completely loses the instinct of self-preservation and rational thinking ... Well, we mean that they lose much more than they do now.

What do you think, maybe these specialists do their work under the influence of Toxoplasma? If you do not want to sleep peacefully at night anymore, then we will inform you that this is how it really is.

No. 4. neurotoxins

This scenario is described in the movie The Serpent and the Rainbow and in the game Resident Evil 5.

There are poisons that can slow down the physiological functions of the human body so much that the person will appear dead. And no one, not even a doctor, will be able to determine that he is actually alive (well, except perhaps a very good doctor). By the way, the poison of the Japanese puffer fish belongs to this category.

The victim can then be brought back to life with the help of some alkaloids (eg Datura preparation). The victim will remain in a trance-like state, but will be able to perform simple tasks: eat, sleep, moan, and stagger around with outstretched arms.

And how can this lead to the appearance of zombies?

Lead? Already led!

The concept of "zombie" came to us from Haiti. There is a story about the poor guy Clairvus Narcissus. He was considered dead, and as many as two doctors, and buried in 1962. And 18 years later he was found aimlessly wandering around the village. As it turned out, such things can be done by local voodoo priests, using various substances extracted from raw materials of natural origin. And then they exploit such zombie people on sugar cane plantations. Do not believe?! This is the purest truth! :)

So if you drink your tea or coffee with cane sugar, who knows, maybe zombies got it?

So, on the one hand, it has already happened. But, on the other hand, even if someone could spread the neurotoxin through the population to turn it into a brainless and shuffling mob, there is no way to make that mob aggressive cannibals. So far there is no way...

Number 3. Rage virus

Watch in the movie 28 Days Later.

In the movie, this virus turns people into mindless killing machines, but in real life there are many brain diseases that lead to the same result. But these diseases are not contagious. But then came mad cow disease, also known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, when a person is infected, not a cow. The disease affects the brain and spinal cord of the cow and turns it into a stumbling, brainless and aggressive animal. This disease is caused by the so-called "prion infection". The disease is contagious, although prions are not microbes or even viruses. They belong to a special kind of proteins that can interact with normal proteins and cause a change in their structure to a pathological one.

A person after infection has the following symptoms:

Changes in gait;

hallucinations;

coordination problems (such as trips and falls);

muscle twitches;

convulsions;

Rapidly developing disorders of consciousness and / or dementia.

It's actually quite a rare disease (although it may actually not be as rare as we're told). And no cases are described that the infected pursued other people in a bloodthirsty crowd. So far there have been no such...

What should be the conclusion from this? That brain infections are a widespread phenomenon, and the appearance of such a disease, but also accompanied by rage, is only a matter of time.

Don't forget that only one substance in the brain (serotonin) keeps us from turning into a killing machine. It is enough for a hypothetical virus to learn how to block the production of this substance or turn off the brain's ability to perceive it. So imagine a disease that can spread either through food, or through blood and saliva (with a bite, for example). Such is the super madness.
With just one bite, you are guaranteed to turn into the worst kind of zombie imaginable.

No. 2. neurogenesis

You must be aware of research related to stem cells. In short, stem cells can be used to regenerate dead cells. We are now interested in such an application of this technology as "neurogenesis". Neurogenesis is a technique by which dead brain tissue can be grown.

So where is this all going? Did you guess?

Science, theoretically, can save you from almost anything, but not from brain death. You can transplant organs and tissues, but when the brain dies, you are dead. But scientists have almost learned how to re-grow brain tissue in patients in a coma and with serious brain injuries. And very soon this technology will be finally debugged. True, these resuscitation processes have one nuance. The fact is that the brain dies in the direction from its outer layers - to the inner ones. And outside is the cerebral cortex - what makes you a person. In the depths is that part of the brain that controls the motor and basic primitive functions.

If we take a brain-dead patient and restore only the functions of the brain stem, then we get a mindless body, dragging its feet, without thoughts and personality. Just instincts. And this can be called a zombie.

In any legal system in the world, all rights and obligations end with death. And all it takes is someone with sufficient resources and the need for a brainless and completely submissive workforce. So the implementation of this option is not far off.

And finally...

No. 1. Nanobots

Featured in Michael Crichton's fantasy novel "Prey" and in the PS2 game Nano Breaker.

What are nanobots or nanorobots? We assume that you have a general understanding of what technologies we are talking about. It's worth adding, however, that nanorobots were apparently only designed to make you fearful of the future...

Nanobots are microscopic, self-replicating robots that can either build or destroy something imperceptibly. Every year more and more financial resources are invested in these technologies. It is clear that these technologies will destroy humanity sooner or later, but people cannot resist the temptation to see for themselves exactly how this will happen.

But how, after all, these technologies can lead to the Zombie Apocalypse?
A so-called nano-cyborg has already been created - a synthetic miniature electronic circuit associated with a microorganism. Such a nanocyborg can work up to one month after the death of the owner. Notice how scientists directly approached the appearance of "zombies" and even at such an early stage.

So, one day nanorobots will appear in the brains of people, they will be programmed to form new neural connections to replace the damaged ones and to maintain the activity of the bodies at some minimum level even after the death of the human host. Perhaps they will be able to keep the bodies functioning until they begin to decompose on the go ...

Nanobots will be programmed to reproduce themselves, but after the destruction of the hosts' bodies, the nanobots must also die. Acting in accordance with a given program, they will have to be transported to a new host, for example, through a bite.

Once in the body of a new host and getting to the brain, they can turn off the cortex and leave the trunk functioning. Thus, the army of the undead will be replenished with one more member.

We believe that this particular scenario is most likely to materialize. This is our point of view, but we will be very interested to find out what you think about all this. Write comments.

As we mentioned at the very beginning of the article, our culture is very rich in zombie-themed fairy tales and myths, and we can't help but mention the iZombie TV series, perhaps standing alone. There, zombies are presented not as howling, stupid, aggressive and always hungry creatures, but in the form of a pretty and not at all stupid blonde Olivia "Liv" Moore. The creators of the series are trying to convey some kind of hidden meaning? You can find out more about the series here
