In Russia, there are many museums that differ in themes and scope of the expositions presented. One of them, perhaps, is difficult to call a museum in the literal sense. This is not just an exhibition model, but a real one. What is interesting about the submarine museum in Moscow?

A safe harbor for a submarine

A unique diesel vessel B-396 is moored near the embankment. A real military submarine, it was previously used in the armament of the domestic fleet. Acting as a standing person, she offers to feel like a part of the team and see how the service of seafarers works.

The Submarine Museum in Moscow is not the only exhibition presenting military equipment plowing the sea. A similar exhibition is located in the Northern capital. As for the one located in the boats, it belongs to the type of modern technical generations. For more than a dozen years, the B-396 served in the Submarine Museum and will tell visitors that before it had the patriotic name “Novosibirsk Komsomolets”, and later it was decommissioned to become part of the incredible uniqueness of the exhibition.

Modern achievements

If we consider the exhibition as a whole, then the B-396 is a separate exhibit. Future plans include the opening of a whole complex that will lift the veil over the Russian fleet. How many of us, ordinary citizens of our country, have the opportunity to see such equipment with our own eyes?

Now, the submarine museum allows you to do this at any convenient time. The military sphere is largely hidden from prying eyes and, of course, both adults and children want to personally see the place where our sailors serve. Despite the fact that a huge fleet spectrum is currently represented by the B-396 model, many express the hope that other military vessels will be presented to viewers as part of the museum's improvement program. By the way, information has repeatedly appeared in the press that the museum will be replenished with a unique amphibious aircraft.

Preservation of originality

Today, the submarine museum in Moscow attracts residents of the capital and visiting tourists. Few know the backstory itself. When anchoring the B-396 near the embankment, the main task was to maintain maximum reliability. In other words, the boat is presented as it actually looks. The only thing that had to be modernized was the internal premises: to expand the passages (including corridors through which people with disabilities could move), to abandon the sleeping places for sailors. It was a forced measure, otherwise visitors would simply not have enough free space.

Components

Who among us imagines what a submarine consists of? And if you still manage to draw a picture in your head, then it is unlikely to guess how the compartments are actually arranged. Museum-submarine B-396 consists of real hulls. This model includes seven compartments, each of which can be viewed. What are they?

  1. Torpedo part. Accommodates combat stock (mines, torpedoes), radio room, navigation devices. Visitors will appreciate the rescue diving suit, get acquainted with the ship's bell.
  2. The living compartment consists of decks where the commander's cabin is located, a demonstration room in which lectures are held.
  3. At the central post are location, acoustic and navigational cabins. Almost every detail is in working order. On a special ladder you can go to the bridge and the upper deck.
  4. Rechargeable. Previously, it partially housed the residential part. Now expositions and materials telling the history of the development of various types of submarines have been moved here.
  5. The diesel body is equipped with a control panel and several related systems.
  6. An electric motor is located in the engine compartment. To appreciate it with your own eyes, a special cutout is provided.
  7. The final part, the aft compartment includes separate devices, an emergency rescue hatch, the mechanisms of the entire ship system. And of course, some of the remaining crew berths.

In addition, the Submarine Museum in Moscow (photo attached) contains residential cabins, an isolation ward where sick sailors were treated, and a bathroom-shower room.

Technical device

Many visitors will notice a large number of different appliances. Navigational equipment is an essential part of the entire vessel. The explanation for this is quite simple - the boat does not contain portholes (at least in sufficient quantities), since the main underwater orientation is carried out according to instrument readings.

A feature of the exhibition will be the raised state of the B-396. The boat, exceeding 90 meters in length, was installed on a platform, which allows you to look at the complex of propellers located on the “belly”. The submarine partially retained the defensive guns that it always has in its stock.

Nice addition

B-396 will not be the only exhibition model. The Submarine Museum in Moscow will attract you to other exhibits that are simply impossible to pass by. So, next door is an assault boat. "Scat" is characterized by high speed. Proportional doors are designed for landing troops. The equipment can be inspected visually, passage inside is prohibited.

The embankment of the museum complex will lead you to the ekranoplan, which combines the features of a ship and an airplane. "Eaglet" is able to rise above any surface. Its purpose is to land troops in hard-to-reach places. Given the impossibility of looking inside, visitors will be presented with a visual simulator, behind which they will feel like the commander of this unusual vessel.

Another interesting exposition, which cannot be called a museum exhibit. The educational center offers modeling of the most important historical events. With the help of 3D graphics and computer special effects, you will feel like a spectator. “Farvater” will recreate the picture of underwater battles, leaving the impression as if you were a participant in them.

Pleasant impressions!

Undoubtedly, those wishing to take a look at the achievements of the Navy and see firsthand how the life of sailors works will not be able to bypass the Submarine Museum in Moscow. Reviews about him contain mostly warm responses. Equal in scope to the Aurora cruiser, the B-396 is an excellent opportunity to visit a vessel of this type. The submarine, as a unique open-air museum, never ceases to amaze the audience with its power and grandeur.

“It’s good that they don’t play pranks ... But just in case, I still took three revolvers with me,” the surveyor lied. - And with a revolver, you know, jokes are bad. You can deal with ten robbers ... "A.P. Chekhov," Oversalted ".

In my Soviet childhood, the phraseological unit “just in case a fireman” was popular ... I involuntarily remembered it when writing this article. Today we’ll talk about an object whose construction goals characterize the meaning and meaning of the above-mentioned phraseological unit with amazing accuracy.

Built for every (special) occasion, in the strictest secrecy. Designed by the best Soviet engineers, by order of Stalin. Once a strategically important object, 42 years later it became just a museum. Luckily…

Object 825 GTS

The former military-secret object of the Cold War era is one of the main attractions of Balaklava. It has several names - Object 825 GTS, K-825, sometimes simply called - "Museum of the Cold War".

The project was an underwater harbor for shelter and repair of submarines and closed on all sides from wind and waves, Balaklava Bay, invisible from the sea, hidden by mountains, was an ideal place for construction.

Huge warehouses for storing food products, fuel storage, hiding places for military equipment and ammunition - all this was built here in case of an atomic war. During construction, the ability to withstand a direct hit by a 100 kt atomic bomb was taken into account.

For comparison - "Little Boy" ("Kid"), dropped on Hiroshima in August 1945, had a capacity equivalent to 13 to 18 kilotons of TNT. And dropped three days later - August 9, 1945 on the city of Nagasaki atomic bomb "Fat Man" ("Fat Man") region. with a capacity equivalent to 21 kilotons of TNT.

A bit of history

The idea of building a military-strategic facility of this magnitude first appeared in the post-war period, when both superpowers - the USSR and the USA began to actively build up their nuclear potential, threatening each other with preventive strikes and retaliation strikes. It was then that Stalin gave Beria (who was in charge of the “nuclear project” at that time) a secret directive: to find a place where submarines could be based to deliver a retaliatory nuclear strike. After several years of searching, the choice fell on the quiet Balaclava:

the city was immediately classified and its status was changed - the city of Balaklava turned into a closed area of the city of Sevastopol.

"Balaklava", bay.

The underground complex was under construction for 8 years. Construction began in 1953, the year of Stalin's death, and finished in 1961. About 120,000 tons of rock were removed during construction. To ensure secrecy, so as not to light up in front of flying enemy satellites, the rock was exported at night on barges to the open sea. First, the military built the facility, and then they connected metro construction specialists, which was due to the complexity of drilling the rock.

Location and characteristics

The museum is located in Mount Tavros, on both sides of which there are two exits. Entrance to the canal (adit) from the side of Balaklava bay. And access to the open sea was drilled in the northern side of the mountain. Both the exit and the entrance on both sides, if necessary, could be blocked by special floating batoports, the weight of each of them reached 150 tons. Both holes in the rock were skillfully covered with camouflage devices and nets.

The object was designed for the simultaneous placement of 7 submarines at once. The length of the channel is impressive - 602 meters. The depth reaches 8 m, and the width ranges from 12 to 22 m. The total area of the facility was 15 thousand square meters, and the people who were there could spend up to 30 days autonomously.

Naval Museum Complex "Balaklava"

Nearly 1,000 people worked in adits hidden from the outside world. For its intended purpose, the building was used for almost 30 years. After the collapse of the USSR, the object was mothballed, and in a short time this place was chosen by the ubiquitous marauders, taking away everything more or less valuable. In 2000, the object was transferred to the balance of Ukraine. And already in 2003, Kyiv decided to declassify the object, turning it into a museum.

The capital of our country is simply a paradise for tourists and citizens living an active cultural life. Probably, there is no such day on which it is impossible to make your day off or vacation fruitful and eventful here. But if today you are thinking about where to go, then our advice to you is to visit the Submarine Museum in Moscow!

About the Navy Museum

The Submarine Museum is the Moscow Museum of the History of the Navy, located in the park zone "Northern Tushino". Its history began in 1999, when Navy veterans suggested that the mayor of the city open a similar military memorial complex. The Moscow government gave the go-ahead, and already in 2003, the main character of the museum, the submarine Novosibirsk Komsomolets, found its eternal rest in the waters of the Khimki reservoir. In 2006, she was ready to take on board the first visitors.

In 2007, the exposition was supplemented by the Skat landing assault boat and the Orlyonok ekranoplan. Let's take a closer look at all the exhibits.

Main exhibit

Submarine B 396 "Novosibirsk Komsomolets" is the central element of the museum. It was built in 1972-1979. at the Nizhny Novgorod enterprise "Krasnoye Sormovo". Like 18 of her brothers, this is a 90.2-meter ocean-class electric-diesel submarine. The B396 can autonomously navigate the sea for up to 80 days.

Some characteristics of the machine:

  • The main weapon is homing electric torpedoes with a caliber of 533 mm. For them, 6 torpedo launchers were built in the bow of the ship.
  • The boat is equipped with a sonar system capable of detecting a target within a radius of 15 km around it.
  • Ammunition limit: 44 mines / 22 torpedoes.
  • The speed for water navigation is 13 knots, for underwater navigation - 16 (about 32 km / h).
  • The maximum diving depth is 246-300 m.

The submarine carried combat duty in the period 1979-1998. "Novosibirsk Komsomolets" patrolled the waters:

  • Northern Fleet.
  • Mediterranean Sea.
  • West African coast.
  • Barents, Norwegian Sea.

The decommissioned boat made the final water trip in 2003 along the Severodvinsk-Moscow route. Then B396 found an eternal parking lot at the Khimki reservoir, installed on a concrete base 10 m from the shore. Of course, the combat submarine was of little use for museum visitors, therefore, for the sake of convenience, it was reconstructed as follows:

  • In the right side of the forward first compartment, a full-fledged entrance for the growth of an adult was made.
  • For the comfortable movement of visitors, all the premises and mechanisms on the starboard side of the Novosibirsk Komsomolets were removed.
  • Sealed hatches, living quarters, mechanisms on the left side are completely preserved.
  • For safety reasons, the upper deck is fenced.
  • The submarine is completely disarmed.

After all the work carried out, "Novosibirsky Komsomolets" became comfortable for visiting by all categories of citizens, including those with disabilities.

Inside the submarine

Let's see what awaits us inside the most important exhibit of the Submarine Museum in Moscow:

  • torpedo room: boat control devices, torpedo mockups, emergency buoy, diving suit, in which evacuation from a combat ship is possible in case of an emergency.
  • habitation compartment: the cabin of the ship's commander has been preserved, where you can also get acquainted with the stands telling about the combat service of the ship. Next - a conference room with a capacity of 30 people.
  • Central compartment: the "heart" of the vessel, from where it is controlled. All mechanisms and devices have been restored, some of them are in working order. Visitors are attracted here by navigational and hydroacoustic cabins, the opportunity to look at the surroundings through the periscope.
  • Fourth living compartment: exposition dedicated to the history of the Navy.
  • Diesel compartment: here you can see with your own eyes a real diesel engine that sets in motion such a colossus as the Novosibirsk Komsomolets.
  • Electrical compartment: an electric motor, also responsible for the movement of the machine.
  • Seventh living compartment: the life of submariners, devices that ensure the life of the crew.

... and other interesting exhibits

At the Submarine Museum in Moscow, you can also visit and see the following:

  • Assault boat "Skat", which has been in service with the Navy since 1970. Unfortunately, you can't go inside.
  • Ekranoplan (combination of aircraft and ship) "Eaglet". It can move over any surface, move on land and on water. Top speed - 400 km / h, route distance - 1500 km. Although you can only look at the "Eaglet" from the outside, in the museum you can easily control it in a virtual piloting simulator.
  • Educational center "Farvater" for schoolchildren - during the 45-minute program, children can learn to choose from: about various countries and cities, space and the Earth as its particle, the world of atomic energy, St. Petersburg - the sea capital of the country.

The Submarine Museum in Moscow will be of interest to both children and adults. Only here you can go inside a real combat submarine and get close to the history of the Navy!

Any boy, whether he is a hardened preschooler or a young pensioner, will gladly accept an offer to walk through the compartments of a real combat submarine. The only pity is that not everyone can get on the operating submarine, and the monument ships in Russia can be counted on the fingers.

One of these stands at the embankment of the Khimki reservoir in Moscow. This is a real diesel-electric submarine of project 641 "B" or "Bukaha", as submariners lovingly and a little familiarly call it. It became the first exhibit of a whole museum complex dedicated to the history of the navy and concurrently acting as a cultural and entertainment center.

The history of the Museum of the Navy in Moscow began with an appeal in April 1999 by veterans of the Russian Navy to the mayor of the city Yu.M. Luzhkov that it would be nice to have your own naval museum in the capital, which would popularize naval service and work for the patriotic education of young people. It was supported by the Moscow government, and already in 2003, work began on organizing a memorial complex for the history of the Navy in the water area of the Khimki reservoir.

The matter was facilitated by the fact that since 1998, the balance of the Moscow government included the Project 641 B submarine purchased from the Northern Fleet with the tactical number B-396 and the name Novosibirsk Komsomolets, which was previously planned to be used as the main exhibit of the museum of military shipbuilding.

The Submarine Museum as an administrative unit was established in August 2003 and officially opened on July 26 (Navy Day) 2006. It took three years to arrange the territory and bring the submarine into a look befitting a warship. Numerous officials attended the opening ceremony, including Moscow Mayor Yu.M. Luzhkov and Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy V.V. Masorin.

At this holiday there were also officers of the Russian Navy, students of the Nakhimov and cadet naval schools, many Muscovites who are interested in the history of the Russian Navy.

About the main exhibit

The main exhibit is the project 641 "B" submarine, the construction of which began in 1972 at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant in Nizhny Novgorod (at that time the city of Gorky). A total of 18 submarines of this type were built.

These are large, 90.2 meters long, ocean-class diesel-electric submarines capable of autonomous navigation for 80 days. They spoiled a lot of blood for the adversary during the Cold War, following the American Air Strike Groups. The boats of this project served in the Northern, Baltic and Black Sea fleets.

The museum's exhibit was the Novosibirsk Komsomolets submarine, tactical number B-396, which served in the Northern Fleet. The naval ensign was raised on it in 1979. The first commander was the captain of the second rank M. Ya. Manachinsky. The main armament of the submarine is electric homing torpedoes of 533 mm caliber. To launch them, six torpedo tubes are installed in the bow compartment. On board the boat housed 22 torpedoes or 44 mines.

The speed of the boat in the surface position is 13 knots, in the underwater position - 16 (about 32 km / h). She was able to dive to a depth of 246–300 meters (maximum). 78 sailors served on it, 17 of them officers. A hydroacoustic system was installed on board the boat, capable of detecting targets at a distance of up to fifteen kilometers.

During the service, "Novosibirsk Komsomolets" repeatedly went on military campaigns, served in the North and South Atlantic, the Barents and Norwegian Seas. The submarine was withdrawn from the Navy in 1998.

"Novosibirsk Komsomolets" - museum

Therefore, the submarine B-369 "Novosibirsky Komsomolets" was slightly reconstructed and brought into a form suitable for visiting, including by people with disabilities.

The boat was placed 10 meters from the shore of the Khimki reservoir on a concrete base. Its hull is partially submerged in water; screws and a rudder blade are left for inspection. In the right side of the first bow (torpedo) compartment, an inlet is cut, sufficient for the passage of a person in full growth. To make it convenient to view the museum's exposition, almost all the mechanisms and rooms on the starboard side of the boat have been removed, a wide passage has been organized there, and full-size doorways have been cut into the watertight bulkheads of the compartments.

Hermetically sealed hatches in the bulkheads of the compartments, mechanisms and living quarters on the port side of the submarine are completely preserved. The upper deck of the B-369 is fenced with lifelines for the safety of visitors, which, of course, is not on a warship. For clarity, all retractable devices are raised above the wheelhouse: periscopes, antennas of radio devices. The flag and guis of the Navy are raised on the boat, it is decorated with flags of coloring. Service on the submarine is not carried out, it is completely disarmed and is a museum.

What can be seen on board

All seven compartments of the submarine are available for inspection.

It starts from the first (torpedo) compartment, where you can see models of torpedoes - the main armament of the boat, control devices. A diving suit is presented, in which an exit from the submarine is carried out in case of emergency, an emergency buoy, also released through a torpedo tube.

The second compartment is residential. The commander's cabin is preserved in it, on the bulkhead of which a stand is fixed, which tells about the combat path of the ship. The lower deck of the compartment is equipped with a conference room that can accommodate 30 people.

The third is the central compartment from where all control of the submarine is carried out. All devices and mechanisms have been completely restored in it, some of them are connected and working. You can see hydroacoustic and navigational cabins, inspect the surroundings through a raised periscope. In the summer, people with good physical fitness can climb the vertical ladder to the navigation bridge of the submarine, go to the upper deck.

In the fourth (residential) The compartment has an exhibition hall, which tells about the history of the development of the submarine forces of the Russian Navy.

In the fifth (diesel) the compartment is one of the diesel engines that set the boat in motion on the surface, as well as service mechanisms. All mechanisms and devices in the compartment are real, which worked during the service of the boat.

Sixth compartment - electrical. An electric motor is available for inspection, with the help of which the submarine moves under water (because the boat is diesel-electric, depending on the position it moves under electric motors or diesel engines). In this compartment, all stored instruments, control posts and mechanisms also correspond to reality.

Seventh compartment - residential. There are hanging berths of sailors left for inspection, there are devices and mechanisms that ensure the life of the crew and the operation of the submarine's devices. In the ceiling of the same compartment, the tube of the emergency exit hatch is available for inspection, and in its aft part - stern tube seals and shafting lines. The exit from the submarine is located on the starboard side of the seventh compartment.

All preserved submarine rooms have transparent doors so they can be viewed, the lighting of the compartments has been changed for better perception. Each compartment has interactive media systems that tell about the history of the Russian submarine forces and the ship itself. Not only men, but also girls show great interest in visiting the boat. On a submarine, you can touch everything with your hands, there are no restrictions (within reason).

What else can you see

On the territory of the museum complex of the history of the Navy, in addition to the submarine, you can visit several more interesting exhibits.

In 2007, an ekranoplan "Eaglet" was installed on the territory of the complex - a special type of aircraft, which, using the effect of the so-called aerodynamic screen, moves above the water surface at a height of half a meter. It is capable of flying at a speed of 400 km per hour not only over water, but also over tundra, ice - any relatively flat surface. Inside the ekranoplan, all instruments and mechanisms, pilot seats and steering wheels are preserved. In principle, he is able to fly even now. For those who want to try themselves as its pilot or passenger, there is a special computer simulator stand.

Also in 2007, the museum's exposition was replenished with the Skat hovercraft landing craft. It is available for external inspection.
