Holidays and non-working days in 2016 in the Russian Federation
According to Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, non-working holidays in 2016 are:
January 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 - New Year holidays,
January 7 - Christmas,
February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day,
March 8 - International Women's Day,
May 1 - Spring and Labor Day,
May 9 - Victory Day,
June 12 - Day of Russia,
November 4 - National Unity Day.
Transfers in the calendar in 2016 in the Russian Federation
In January 2016 we will rest until the 10th. Note that January 2, Saturday, is postponed to Tuesday, May 3. And January 3, Sunday, - on Monday, March 7.
On the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day in February, we rest on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd. February 20 is declared a pre-holiday day.
In May, the Russians will have a rest: 1,2,3 and 9 numbers.

With the approach of New Year's holidays, and in particular the holiday, many people are beginning to be interested in questions related to the coming year, for example: what animal will it be, what to expect from this year, is it a leap year or not, and of course how many days will be in 2016: 366 or 365 and how many of them are working, and how many holidays and weekends. Well, let's try to deal with these interesting questions.
So, we immediately note that the next 2016 will be a leap year, which means that the number of calendar days in it is 366, which is one day more than in previous non-leap years (due to February 29).
What about working days, weekends and holidays in 2016, then their total number will help us determine for Russia, in which there is all the information we need, including the norms of working hours. The production calendar for 2016 provides the norm of working hours for months, quarters and the year as a whole with a 40-hour, 36-hour and 24-hour working week. The number of working days and days off is also indicated for a five-day working week with two days off.
Holidays
According to Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the following non-working holidays are established in the Russian Federation:
- January 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 - New Year holidays;
- January 7 - Christmas;
- February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day;
- March 8 - International Women's Day;
- May 1 - Spring and Labor Day;
- May 9 - Victory Day;
- June 12 - Day of Russia;

Article 6 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, laws and other regulatory legal acts of state authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, may establish additional non-working holidays. This norm is also contained in the Resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of December 21, 2011 No. 20-PV11 and in paragraph 8 of the letter of the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation of July 10, 2003 No. 1139-21.
Religious holidays may be declared as additional non-working holidays in the manner prescribed by Part 7 of Art. 4 of the Federal Law of September 26, 1997 No. 125-FZ.
Transfers of non-working days
According to part five of article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, for the rational use of weekends and non-working holidays by employees, days off can be transferred to other days by federal law or a regulatory legal act of the Government of the Russian Federation
By Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of September 24, 2015 No. 1017 "", the following days off were postponed:
- from Saturday 2 January to Tuesday 3 May;
- from Sunday 3 January to Monday 7 March;
- from Saturday 20 February to Monday 22 February.
Thus, taking into account the postponement of days off in 2016, the “New Year holidays” for employees will last 10 days - from January 1 to January 10, 2016.
In May 2016, non-working days will be the days from May 1 to 3 - the Spring and Labor Day, as well as from May 7 to 9 - the Victory Day holiday. In June, the rest period in connection with the celebration of the Day of Russia will last from June 11 to 13, and in November the National Unity Day holiday will last from November 4 to 6, 2016.
Working hours
In accordance with the procedure approved by the Order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia dated August 13, 2009 No. 588n, it is calculated depending on the established working hours per week according to the calculated schedule of a five-day working week with two days off on Saturday and Sunday, based on the duration of daily work (shift). Thus, with a 40-hour working week, the norm of working time will be 8 hours, with a working week of 36 hours, it is equal to 7.2 hours; with a 24-hour work week will be 4.8 hours.
In accordance with Part 1 of Article 95 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the duration of the working day or shift immediately preceding a non-working holiday is reduced by one hour. In 2016, workers will work one hour less on February 20, November 3.
The norm of working time calculated in the specified order applies to all modes of work and rest.
