The greatest villains in history: Darth Vader (English Star Wars - Darth Vader). Why Anakin Skywalker Became Darth Vader

- the central character of the Star Wars Universe, the protagonist of the Star Wars film epic, during which the viewer observes his formation as a conductor of the Force, his transition to the Dark Side of the Force and his final redemption. After turning to the dark side of the Force at 19 B.C. b. took the name of Darth Vader. It is revealed in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi that he is the father of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.

Character created by George Lucas

. There are various versions of the origin of his name. "Anakin" is believed to be copied from the name of the director Ken Annakin, a friend of Lucas, although Lucas himself categorically denied this the very next day after Ken's death. "Vader" is translated from Dutch as "father" - however, in this language the word is not pronounced "vader", but "fader".

The greatest villains in history: Darth Vader (English Star Wars - Darth Vader).

A legendary Force-sensitive male who served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi Knight, later serving and commanding the Galactic Empire as Sith Lord Darth Vader. Born Shmi Skywalker, he became the secret husband of Naboo senator Padmé Amidala Naberri in his youth. He was the father of Grand Master Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight Leia Organa Solo, and grandfather of Ben Skywalker.

History of Dart

As a gifted child, Anakin excelled in mathematics and technology, and he was also bold and adventurous. The boy often risked himself to help others, while not really counting on the reward for his actions. Even at such an early age, Skywalker could fix or build anything. Proof of this is his creation of the protocol droid C-3PO and the racing pod. Both were assembled from found parts and almost finished when Anakin was nine years old.

Obi-Wan's Apprentice

.Relationship Anakin and Obi-Wan began with difficulties. Obi-Wan wasn't the only one who saw the boy's potential and sensed his danger. The only reason he took up training was the last wish of his dying master, Qui-Gon. He took it as a duty, though he felt that he would not be able to train Anakin properly. On the other hand, Skywalker knew that he was different from the rest. Anakin retained his individuality, not wanting to change. However, he treated Obi-Wan almost like the father he never had. Gradually, a kind of attachment relationship was established between the teacher and the student.

growing up

.The day before Skywalker's twentieth birthday, Padmé Amidala, now Senator for the Chommell Sector, was assassinated by the bounty hunter Zam Wesell. Skywalker was personally assigned to protect and escort Amidala to her homeworld. To avoid unnecessary attention, they traveled under the guise of refugees. Skywalker had not seen Amidala for ten years, though he had thought of her every day since leaving Naboo. His childhood sympathy for her grew into a very strong attraction. In conversations, Skywalker spoke of his attachment to Amidala, dissatisfaction with Kenobi's training methods, distrust of the political process, and the need for one strong leader. In a short time, his attraction grew into love, and Amidala, who initially repulsed him out of a sense of duty, soon reciprocated. They violated the ancient tradition of the Order, according to which the only attachment of the Jedi should be the Force.
Passage to the Dark Side. Exhausted by thoughts of the dying Padma, Skywalker jumped out of the Temple, took the speeder and hurried to the chambers of the Chancellor. He was unsure of his next move; he just knew he had to do something. By coincidence, Skywalker arrived just in time to find Windu ready to kill Palpatine. Sith attacked Windu with Force lightning while begging Skywalker for help. Reflecting the Lightning, the Jedi shouted at Skywalker not to listen. Palpatine tried to increase the power of the dark side with his own life force and therefore underwent a physical transformation: his facial features were greatly distorted, and his eyes turned yellow. When Windu was finally able to kill Palpatine, thereby ending the Sith, he was thwarted by Skywalker. He argued that murder was not for the Jedi and that Palpatine should be tried. He probably spoke of regret for Dooku's own execution, but there was no less fear of losing the chance to save Amidala. Windu ignored Skywalker's call and prepared to kill the Sith, but a panicked Skywalker cut off Windu's lightsaber hand with a swift blow. Before he could defend himself, Palpatine used Force lightning and threw the Jedi Master through a broken window to his death.

"Now get up... Darth Vader!"
- Palpatine to Anakin
Realizing the importance of his action, Skywalker experienced a deep sense of guilt and remorse, but was too stunned and emotionally devastated to resist Palpatine, who explained everything that had happened to Skywalker's destiny. The Sith then convinced the Jedi to embrace the dark side and become his apprentice. Skywalker agreed to follow any of his orders; all he wanted was to save Amidala's life. Palpatine promised to help him uncover the secret, thereby admitting that he had no power over death. Then Anakin Skywalker joined the Sith Order, and Sidious gave him a new name - Darth Vader.

It is unlikely that among fans of cinema and pop culture there is a person who does not know He has become a symbol of the Star Wars space epic and its main antagonist. Despite the fact that he is a negative character, fans elevate him to the rank of favorite heroes. However, once one of the greatest villains in the history of the Galaxy (ours and fictional) was an ordinary boy who, for many reasons, became a servant of the dark side.

Childhood

Once the most controversial character in the Star Wars movie saga, Darth Vader was called Anakin Skywalker. For the first time, viewers meet him on the sandy planet Tatooine, where he, along with his mother, was enslaved by a parts salesman named Watto. From early childhood, the boy had a high intellect and highly developed technical abilities. Already at the age of 9, he assembled his own C-3PO droid and a real racing car. Qui-Gon Jinn immediately felt the great Force in the young slave. The Jedi's feelings did not disappoint when he learned that the number of Medichlorians in Anakin was much greater than that of Master Yoda. He tries to find out from his mother Shmi who was the father of the child, but she says that, besides her, he never had anyone else. This prompts Qui-Gon to think about a prophecy that says that a man will be born from the Force, designed to restore balance to the world. Then he decides to take the young technician as his Padawan, which becomes possible when he wins a bet with Watto, the condition of which was Anakin's victory in the races.

clone war

After ten years of training, Anakin masterfully masters Jedi techniques and has special talents. Obi-Wan Kenobi becomes his teacher, as it was Qui-Gon Jinn's dying request. In this part of Star Wars, Darth Vader begins to awaken inside a young Skywalker. Stubbornness and vanity accompany him everywhere, and the patronage of the Sith Lord, which is Chancellor Palpatine, further strengthens his sense of his own superiority. The first step taken towards the transition to becomes the mass execution of an entire Tusken tribe in the name of revenge for the capture and subsequent death of the mother. At the same time, he developed strong feelings for the former queen of Naboo. He learns that his love is not unrequited, and contrary to the strict rules of the Jedi, he marries his chosen one in secret from everyone. Due to the inseparable connection with his wife, a strong fear of losing her arises in him, which also condones the formation of the Sith.

Transition to the dark side

The next significant move in the internal war between Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker is an assassination on the orders of Chancellor Palpatine, which violates the Jedi principle of not executing unarmed captives. Almost immediately after this, he learns about Padme's pregnancy, but his joy at this news is replaced by a strong fear that overshadows everything around. The Force shows him a future in which his wife dies in childbirth. Concerned about this vision, he shares it with Palpatine, which speaks of the young Jedi's unconditional trust in his patron. He is unaware of the future Emperor's artfully crafted plan to make Eni a Sith and his devoted student. Thus, the seeds of the dark side sown by him begin to sprout rapidly. When Skywalker learns that the chancellor is Darth Sidious, he tells the Jedi Council about it, where he sits as Palpatine's representative. However, he soon begins to realize that the latter is able to save Padme from death. In the climactic battle between Mace Windu and the Sith Lord, Anakin takes the latter's side, resulting in the master's death. From that moment on, he becomes a student of Sidious and, on his orders, kills all the young Jedi and separatists. It is the new trilogy that reveals to the audience the truth about who Darth Vader is, and gives an idea of how he became a villain.

Years of Sith rule

At the end of the new trilogy, Obi-Wan cuts off both of Anakin's legs and an arm, and his body is completely burnt in a fire. However, the self-proclaimed Emperor Palpatine manages to save his student from death with the help of a special suit. Since then, the sword of Darth Vader turns red, and he himself commands the armed forces of his teacher, while on the Death Star. He captures Princess Leia Organa, who is his daughter, but does not yet know about it. In order to reveal where the rebel base is, as well as retrieve the schematics for his space station, he destroys Alderaan. At this time, the Millennium Falcon is attracted to them, along with Han Sol, Chewbacca, an aged Obi-Wan, Luke and the droids on board. They flee, but Vader manages to kill his former teacher. He later confronts Luke while he is trying to destroy the Death Star and senses that the youth is full of the Force. As a result, he has to run, and the planet destroyer explodes thanks to the young Skywalker.

Meeting with son

In the next episode, Luke will discover a terrible secret about who Darth Vader is. He ends up on Dagoba, where he studies with Master Yoda. However, at this time, the dark overlord captures his friends in order to lure Skywalker into a trap. He succeeds, and during a lightsaber battle, he cuts off the hand of a young Jedi, after which he admits that he is his father. Vader invites his son to choose his side and together overthrow the Emperor in order to rule the galaxy. Luke takes this news painfully and jumps into the garbage bay, where he is picked up by the escaped crew of the Millennium Falcon.

Repentance

In the next installment of the popular space opera Star Wars, Darth Vader is building a new Death Star that is supposed to be more powerful than the previous one. Together with the Sith Lord, he develops a plan to lure Luke to the dark side, because his skills could be very valuable to the Empire. Thus, he once again captures his son, who firmly decided not to resist, as he hopes that goodness remains in his father. Vader soon learns that he has a daughter, also endowed with the Force. Then he threatens Luke that he will lure her to his side. The young Jedi succumbs to anger and tries to strike down Vader with his lightsaber. The Emperor encourages him to kill his father and take his place, but Skywalker does not give in and discards the weapon. While Palpatine inflicts heavy lightning strikes on Luke, Darth Vader realizes that he cannot allow the death of his son and dumps his master into the mine, where he dies. However, Anakin's life support is damaged. Taking off his helmet, he speaks the last words, and his healed soul finds peace.

Armor

It is thanks to the black cape and helmet that most people know who Darth Vader is. This armor was specifically designed to keep an injured Skywalker alive, without it he would almost immediately be unable to breathe. Sith tradition dictates that heavy black suits be worn. In total, 2 different outfits were created for each of the trilogies. Their design and construction took a lot of time and effort, which in the end paid off.

actors

As many as 4 actors participated in creating the image of Darth Vader. In the first part of the new trilogy, little Anakin was played by Jake Lloyd, and in the next two, Skywalker was replaced by Hayden Christensen, who also appears in the sixth episode in the guise of a ghost. With the original trilogy, things are more complicated. In all three parts, in a suit, he was replaced by the British swordsman Bob Anderson during sword battles. The voice of Darth Vader belongs to James Earl Jones, and in parts 3 to 6. And when his hero takes off his mask, the audience opens the face of the actor Sebastian Shaw. Probably, this is one of the few characters in the history of cinema, whose image was embodied at the same time by such a large number of performers and became truly iconic.

A warning: the article contains information that reveals the main storylines.

“Ahsoka… Ahsoka, why did you leave?” Where were you when I needed you?
- I made a choice. I couldn't stay.
- You're selfish.
- Not!
- You left me. You let me down! Do you know what I've become?

His appearance on the screen precedes the "Imperial March" by John Williams. His appearance inspires horror and awe. His name resounds throughout the galaxy. One of the most famous villains in all of cinematic history, the central and highly controversial character in Star Wars. When you watch the saga in order, the finale of the third episode becomes a bit of a shock. Especially for those who once heard something about Darth Vader somewhere, but did not watch the original trilogy. The Rebirth of a Noble Jedi Anakin Skywalker into the powerful Sith Lord Darth Vader - this is perhaps the brightest emotional component of the story.

The films do not fully reveal either Anakin or Vader. To better understand the complex inner world of the hero, you should pay attention to the animated series Clone Wars (Anakin), Clone Wars (Anakin) and Rebels (Vader, appears in the second season). And of course - to the expanded Universe, consisting of a variety of books and comics.

The Inner World of Anakin and Vader

"You don't give up on feelings, Anakin. They make you special."
("The Clone Wars", season 4, episode 16.)

These words of Palpatine, addressed to the young Jedi, perfectly convey the essence of Skywalker. It was feelings that always led Anakin through life. He was a man capable of completely immersing himself in both love and hate. To curb emotional impulses, he needed a real, understanding friend. Unfortunately, in the end, there was no such thing next to him. Obi-Wan, who seemed to sincerely love Anakin, gradually fenced himself off from him by the rules of the Jedi. There was never any real trust between them. That is why the teacher not only missed Anakin’s internal torment, but also could not understand in time that he needed something more than the duty censure of the mistakes made, did not see the moment when the wayward student had to be put in his place as a father as harshly and soberingly. A past as a slave left Skywalker with a legacy of independence. Strength and talent have become the causes of excessive conceit and pride. Anakin was too young and inexperienced to handle himself on his own. And with spiritual losses that followed one after another, fear for the closest people to whom he was attached with all his heart. Close people - it was these attachments that ultimately killed Skywalker and saved Vader.

“He was bold. Rarely lost. But people were amazed by his kindness. He treasured his friends very much and protected them to the end.”
(Ahsoka on her teacher, Rebels, season 2, episode 18.)

Anakin's mom. As a little boy, he picked up and left a wounded Tusken raider, not even suspecting that in the future he would hate his entire tribe - it was the raiders who kidnapped and killed his mother. Mom died in Anakin's arms - this pain never left his heart: “Why did she die? Why didn't I save her? I know, I had to! .. I will learn how to make people not die!

Obi-Wan Kenobi. Despite frequent mutual misunderstandings with Obi-Wan, Anakin did not hesitate to rush to his aid in the most risky situations. Even though he already doubted the Jedi, he never left him in trouble. There was a moment in their lives when Kenobi hid the staging of his death from his best friend for maximum credibility, but how much mental anguish this performance cost Anakin! For him, they were more than brothers, they were one...

Ahsoka Tano Anakin's first and only Padawan. They developed a wonderful, very warm brother-sister relationship. Ahsoka's character, independent and at the same time not alien to affections, was very reminiscent of Skywalker himself. Subsequently, after being falsely accused of betrayal, she became disillusioned with the Jedi Order and left it. To meet again face to face already with Darth Vader - and in this battle, having recognized each other, they could not deliver decisive blows. "I'm close to wanting to get away from the Order," Anakin said before Ahsoka left the Order. "I know". Only later, with bitterness and a great sense of guilt, did she realize how much her departure contributed to Anakin's transition to the dark side of the Force - she was needed by someone who always believed in her and asked to stay.

Supreme Chancellor Palpatine- the wise mentor of the boy, in many ways replacing his father. He was always ready to listen, understand, explain. The only person with whom you could talk about the most intimate, who never dismissed Anakin. Neither the Jedi Order, nor Obi-Wan, nor even Padme could give Skywalker the attention he needed as Palpatine. Anakin loved and unconditionally trusted Palpatine - but very soon ceased to have these feelings for Darth Sidious.

Padme Amidala- the love of Anakin's life, so strong that for the sake of his beloved he was really ready for anything. Dreams of her death became an obsession, the horror of the inevitable loss of the dearest person pushed her to look for a way to change the future. She believed in Anakin, but she didn't have enough time to get him back.

Luke Skywalker- a son whose existence Vader did not learn about until 20 years after his birth, living all these years with the thoughts that he had killed both his wife and his child. Luke, who believed in his father's bright side, was able to bring Anakin back. In this he is fundamentally different from Obi-Wan, who, despite his worries and regrets, did not fight for his second "I", but accepted the existence of Darth Vader as a given.

From Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader

“What is the use of strength if there is no discipline? The boy is as dangerous to himself as to his enemies."
(Count Dooku in Matthew Stover's book Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.)

While still a Jedi, who did not even think about switching to the dark side of the Force, Anakin sometimes did things that were unacceptable from the point of view of the Order. Some of them can be understood and even justified (as you know, sometimes all means are good to achieve the goal), but this does not change the essence - each such act dangerously brought him closer to the fatal line. And one of the first such steps was a cruel revenge for the death of my mother. From the piercing feeling of losing a loved one, Anakin succumbed to anger and despair unacceptable for a Jedi.

General Skywalker was known for his reckless bravery and military talent. But he also differed from others in his methods of interrogating separatist henchmen. The result was important to him, and therefore he even used his famous suffocation by the Force at a distance during interrogations. Skywalker's entourage suspected methods contrary to the principles of the Jedi, but turned a blind eye to them every time: apparently, it suited that there was someone who was not afraid to do all the dirty work. Everything was comfortable for everyone, until one day it touched them personally.

Another such unworthy act was the beheading of an unarmed Count Dooku. Anakin doubted the correctness of this act, but the dark influence of Palpatine was already becoming stronger than the Jedi teachings.

In fact, there were more such episodes. If we add to all this the periodic exacerbation of the sense of superiority cultivated by Palpatine, the desire to act as independently as possible and the general emotionality of Skywalker, then it becomes clear what an explosive mixture his soul sometimes represented.

Was it possible to stop the process of going to the dark side? Haunted by nightmares about the death of his beloved, the young man came to Yoda for advice. But could advice satisfy a tormented soul by simply letting go of its attachments? Didn't the sage's standard answer look like an excuse? In fact, everyone turned away from Anakin: distrust, fear of his Force, unwillingness to understand the complex inner world of his ward and help him cope with his passions in time - this is the reaction of the Jedi Council to Skywalker. And Palpatine was there again. Gave hope. Got rid of fear. Made me feel the power. At what point did Anakin put an end to his doubts? Kneel before a new teacher? Becoming a cold-blooded killer? Or allowing selfishness, albeit for a while, to take precedence over love? After all, even taking the path of Darth Vader, Skywalker experienced several moments of bitter regret. And if Kenobi had behaved precisely as an understanding and faithful friend, if he had not intervened in Anakin's conversation with Padme, then it is likely that even then Anakin would have been able to return to the bright path. The most important external manifestation of belonging to the dark side of the Force is the color of the eyes - in the moments of complete immersion in Darkness, it changes to yellow. For Anakin, this most clearly happened only after the fight with Obi-Wan. It was the hatred for the former teacher, the sizzling physical and mental pain that became the last decisive link in the chain of internal metamorphoses. "You were my brother!" exclaims Kenobi, looking at the defeated Vader, but is he sincere in his words? Did he himself at that moment become simply a machine for carrying out the orders of the Jedi Council? How could that former Obi-Wan leave his beloved friend, with whom he spent so many years side by side, to whom he owed his life more than once, to die in wild torment in the flames of lava?

“A Jedi is obliged to discard such attachments from his life,” and Kenobi followed this teaching. Did he ever realize that he had actually betrayed, without even trying to save? ..

Life of Darth Vader

The films show little of the daily life of the dark lord, but fans can learn a lot from the stories of the same expanded universe.

It becomes clear that Darth Vader never became the most powerful Sith in history - crippled, completely dependent on his suit, he lost a significant part of the Force. The suit, on the one hand, had impressive technical functionality (magnetic feet, explosion resistance, the ability to use it as a space suit, etc.), on the other hand, it was so ill-conceived that Vader could only explain its appearance by the unwillingness of the emperor to give him complete freedom. Poor-quality metal alloys, an extremely vulnerable life support panel, constant annoying hissing of the breathing apparatus, heaviness and sluggishness, pain when moving ... In addition, Vader began to suffer from claustrophobia and therefore developed special pressure chambers where he took off his helmet and meditated. He dreamed of learning to breathe on his own, to restore his lungs destroyed by the heat of the lava by the Force, but he could only last a few minutes without the apparatus. By order of the Emperor, Vader lived in a tower on Mustafar, the place where Anakin lost everything. Hatred and heartache were, according to the Emperor's plan, to spur Vader's dark Power. To escape from constant memories, he took various psychotropic drugs, but again and again returned to the past, which made him regret his choice. After all, there, inside the suit, was still Anakin - a man of tragic fate. His life is a story that even a kind and selfless soul can make mistakes. That love can bring not only happiness, but also pain. That you can be lonely and misunderstood in a crowd of people, some of whom call you their friend. That good is not always completely light, and evil is dark. That in every person there are always both sides, and the outcome of their struggle depends only on him. A story about how easy it really is to mess things up.

Full biography

Although he was once the good and just Anakin Skywalker, the man known as Darth Vader was evil personified. Possessed with hatred and disdain for all life, Vader committed countless atrocities in the service of the Empire. He craved power, carried out the Emperor's every whim, and knew no compassion or forgiveness.

Vader first revealed himself when Senator Palpatine showed Anakin the dark side of the force. Succumbing to rage and hatred, Skywalker increasingly fell under the influence of Palpatine. His former teacher, Obi-Wan Kenobi, upon discovering Anakin's fall, tried to save his friend from the dark side. According to legend, a lightsaber duel began between them, and as a result, Anakin fell into a smelter shaft. Darth Vader got out of there already. Crippled, Vader was forced to wear black armor and a breath mask, which made his appearance even more terrible.

Shortly after confronting Kenobi, Vader was ordered to destroy the remaining Jedi. Obi-Wan and Jedi Master Yoda managed to escape and avoid extermination. Kenobi also hid Vader's newborn twin children from his father by separating them. Vader, unaware of his descendants, continued to spread terror throughout the galaxy. When the Rebellion broke out, Vader led the Imperial Expeditionary Force to destroy the Alliance.

Aboard the first Death Star, a massive battle station capable of destroying the Emperor's enemies with a single blow, Darth Vader once again faced his master, Obi-Wan. During the fight, Vader was victorious and Obi-Wan was defeated.

Although the Death Star was destroyed, Vader continued to pursue the rebels. He also discovered that Luke was his son and began plotting to seduce him to the dark side. To this end, he tortured Luke's friends in Cloud City. However, Luke managed to elude Vader during their violent skirmish at the gas-producing colony - but not before Vader revealed his origins to Luke. This knowledge plagued Luke for months.

Vader's attempts to turn Luke into a Dark Jedi culminated in a brutal showdown between father and son on the second Death Star. The emperor saw how Luke fought against his own malice and hatred - and defeated them. Then the Emperor decided to destroy Luke and beat him with blue lightning of the Force until the young man was on the verge of death. However, Luke's prayers to his father awakened the spirit of Anakin Skywalker in him. Vader grabbed the Emperor and threw him into the Death Star's main reactor, where Palpatine perished. This finally weakened the dying Vader. At his father's request, Luke removed his helmet, revealing Anakin's face. At that moment, the evil being named Darth Vader disappeared forever, and only Anakin Skywalker remained. However, he was unable to recover from his injuries and merged with the Force shortly after the destruction of the second Death Star. To honor his father's memory, Luke took his helmet and armor to the wooded moon of Endor, where he burned them on a giant pyre. Soon he saw his father along with Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi - three radiant spirits who are with the light side of the Force.

Behind the scenes

At first, Lucas imagined Darth Vader as a galactic mercenary and bounty hunter, but gradually the features of a dark knight appeared in his image. As medieval trends intensified, the idea of a bounty hunter disappeared completely. However, this initial concept of Vader was resurrected in the form of Boba Fett. According to Lucas, "Darth Vader" is a distorted "dark father", "dark father".

Darth Vader's helmet was inspired by the kabuto, a medieval Japanese helmet. Ralph McQuarrie added a breathing mask to the helmet so that the villain could move between ships in a vacuum. However, Lucas realized that the mask perfectly conveyed Vader's villainous nature, and decided to make it a permanent part of the costume. The prototype for the mask was the mempo, a steel or metal mask worn by a Japanese military leader.

When casting for A New Hope, Lucas invited English actor and bodybuilder David Prowse to play either Darth Vader or Han Solo's bosom friend Chewbacca. Prowse chose the role of a negative character and played it throughout all three films. Despite Vader's "image" in the film, Lucas' team jokingly called him "Darth Farmer" during filming, due to Prowse's distinct southwestern accent. Subsequently, the voice of Prowse was replaced by the voice of James Earl Jones (James Earl Jones). The scoring of the first film took Jones about two and a half hours, while the second film took almost eight. Due to the short duration of his work on the film, Jones requested that his name not be used in the credits. To add to Vader's mystique, the sound effects department mimicked Vader's heavy breathing with a scuba stabilizer.

During dangerous stunts and especially violent action scenes, stuntman Peter Diamond played the role of Vader, while Bob Anderson doubled for Prowse in the sword fights. In the final part of the trilogy, Vader without a mask (aka Anakin Skywalker) was played by actor Sebastian Shaw.

Darth Vader

The story of the Sith Lord Darth Vader actually begins with the birth of a man named Anakin Skywalker, the most promising young Jedi in the entire galaxy. As a force-sensitive boy, Skywalker was discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn on the remote planet Tatooine. The Jedi believed the boy was the "Chosen One" and introduced him to the Jedi Council for training, but Yoda and the others were worried that Anakin was dangerous. Qui-Gon was killed, but Jinn's own apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, vowed to take Skywalker on as a Padawan apprentice, despite Jedi Master Yoda's warning.

Anakin grew up as a normal teenager, but became irritated with Kenobi's teachings and became more and more stubborn and rebellious. Anakin joined Padmu Amidala ten years after the Battle of Naboo, when he and Kenobi were ordered by the Jedi Council to protect her after an assassination attempt. Anakin immediately felt an uncontrollable attraction to the beautiful Senator. Even though warned by the Master about the dangers of these feelings, Anakin and Padmu fell in love with each other, which was forbidden for the Jedi in those days.

It was then that Anakin took his first step towards the dark side. Together with Padmu, Anakin returned to Tatooine to find his mother Shmi, whom he had not seen for ten years. Anakin had nightmares about her, and when he arrived he found that his intuition was right. His mother was kidnapped by Tusken raiders and tortured to death. When Anakin finally sought her out, she died in his arms. Driven by anger and grief, Anakin killed an entire village of Tusken raiders, including women and children.

Anakin left Tatooine when he received a distress call from Obi-Wan, who had been captured on the planet Geonosis. Heading to the Master's aid, Anakin took part in the Battle for Geonosis (beginning of the Clone Wars), confronting Count Dooku alone after the new Sith Lord defeated Obi-Wan. But no matter how strong Anakin's Force and Jedi skills were, he was no obstacle for the strong and experienced Dooku, who defeated the young Jedi and cut off his right hand.

Immediately after the Battle of Geonosis, Anakin escorted Padma back to Naboo, where their love was confirmed by marriage. Keeping his marriage to Padmu a secret, Anakin returned to the Jedi on Coruscant and fought them in the Clone Wars. It was during this tense, war-torn time that Anakin lost his battle with his inner demons.

He succumbed to the dark side and became Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith. He stopped being Anakin Skywalker and became a monster of darkness and evil. As Lord Vader, he helped exterminate the Jedi and ensure complete dominance of the galaxy for his new Sovereign, the Emperor. In classic Sith fashion, the Emperor was served by his apprentice, and Vader became his Sovereign's right-hand man throughout the Empire.

Lord Vader, feared and hated by the entire Imperial elite, felt no remorse for the destruction of officers and soldiers he considered incompetent or disloyal. His reign of terror, however, motivated the Imperial Navy to pursue the Rebellion with renewed vigor.

The cunning tactics and merciless strategies of Darth Vader were the tools of the Imperial campaign to take control of the galaxy. The Dark Lord often took part in local operations as a general, leading ground and air battles on his own. His skill in piloting a prototype of the advanced Ty Fighter fighter was unparalleled, and his mere presence in battle often terrified the enemy. Along with the Imperial Navy, Lord Vader led a relentless hunt for traitorous Rebels.

After the plans for the Death Star were stolen by Alliance forces, Vader pursued the senator of Alderaan, Princess Leia Organa, and intercepted her ship over Tatooine. He moved her to the Death Star for further interrogation, but his plans were cut short by the arrival of a small team of heroes that included his old mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Dark Lord sensed the Jedi's presence and found him. They fought and Vader killed the old Jedi, who had apparently disappeared. Vader didn't have much time to think about it, but he soon found him fighting for the Rebels, whose starfighters were attacking the massive Death Star. One X-Wing caught his attention, being controlled by someone who had absorbed a lot of Power. Vader had no doubt that this young Rebel was Luke Skywalker, his son.

Darth Vader attempted to turn Skywalker to the dark side at the encounter in Bespin, but the young Jedi threw himself into a chimney to avoid joining his father. He survived the fall and was rescued by his friends. Luke returned later, after completing his Jedi training, and confronted Vader again. This time, however, Luke turned to Anakin, looking for the good that he sensed still existed in his father. Vader believed that the Emperor's hold on him was too strong, but when Palpatine attempted to kill Skywalker, Vader rebelled against his master. Fueled by a surge of hope and light, Vader grabbed the Emperor and threw him into the second Death Star's reactor core.

In addition to his well-publicized fight against the Rebels, Lord Vader also fought plots launched by the Black Sun criminal organization led by Prince Xizor. The stupid gangster made an attempt to gain the patronage of the Emperor, politically competing with Darth Vader. Xizor made the mistake of plotting the death of Vader's son and thus earned the fury of both Vader and the Rebel Alliance. Eventually Vader killed Xizor.

Having escaped, the man named Darth Vader ceased to exist, and Anakin Skywalker returned to the world. But his days were numbered. The mechanized body that supported Vader was damaged and began to fail. Revenge of the Sith

Anakin Skywalker went on about the chancellor, who promised to teach him the techniques of the dark side and power over death, which made it possible to save the hero's wife from death. Since in a dream Anakin saw his wife dying.

On 19 BBY, Skywalker revealed the Chancellor's identity to the Jedi Council and, disobeying orders, followed the Masters, who wanted to arrest Palpatine.

In a fight to the death, Palpatine was nearly killed by hand, but was saved by Skywalker, who disarmed the Jedi. This fatal act, in which Windu died, made Anakin feel the greatest sense of guilt. His spirit was broken and he embraced the dark side without hesitation, becoming Darth Sidious' apprentice.

Upon joining the Sith Order, Anakin ceased to exist, becoming the legendary Darth Vader.

"Now get up... Darth Vader!"

Anakin becomes Darth Sidious' apprentice

An excellent manipulator Palpatine, convinced Vader that the Jedi are traitors and traitors who must be destroyed.

Taking command of the 501st Legion, the hero attacked the Jedi Temple, killing absolutely everyone, including masters and young younglings. This attack on the Temple was the beginning of the Great Jedi Purge.

"Do what you must, Darth Vader. No hesitation, no mercy"

Having completed the task, Sidious gave Vader a new assignment - to end the Clone Wars and bring peace to the Galaxy by killing members of the Separatist Council on the planet Mustafar.

Arriving on Mustafar, Vader easily made his way into the meeting room, where he killed every single one. The most recent to be killed was Nute Gunray (Viceroy of the Trade Federation), an ally of Sidious who attacked Naboo 13 years ago. After Gunray's death, all droids were disabled.(The Empire used only clones).

Although Vader still had doubts, he convinced himself that everything he did was for the good of the Republic (naive Anakin).

Returning to his ship, Vader saw the approaching ship of Padmé, who was deeply upset by the massacre at the Temple. He tried to convince her that the one who wants to turn his wife against her husband is to blame for everything. Padme asked to fly away with her, but Vader insisted on the opposite, dreaming of overthrowing Sidious in order to take his place.

When Vader saw his former master Kenobi hiding on Amidala's ship, he thought that his wife had betrayed him and used a power grab on her. Filled with hatred, Vader engaged Kenobi in battle.

The duel of the great masters was long and ended on the banks of the lava river. Vader was so confident in his abilities that he attacked the Jedi from a bad position without hesitation. As a result of this, Dart ventured both feet and left arm. Shouting words of hatred towards Kenobi, Vader's body caught fire.

Obi-Wan left a former apprentice to die.

Vader's body was burned in half, but he supported himself with the Force and hatred. Darth Sidious came to the aid of the student. Vader was rushed to Coruscant where his damaged body parts were repaired. To increase his anger, Sidious ordered the student to remain conscious while the operation was in progress. He began to look more like a cyborg than a human. It contained the technologies that were used to create the .

When Vader asked about Padme, Sidious lied that he killed her in anger, after which the hero destroyed the droids with the help of the Force and damaged the premises. Vader's sole purpose from now on was to serve his master.

Terrible wounds and psychological trauma robbed Vader of most of his strength, potential and changed his character completely. Wearing the new heavy armor, Vader was clumsy and his mask limited his vision, forcing him to change his fighting style. Sith considered himself incomplete, stuck in tight armor that caused bouts of claustrophobia.

In the service of the Emperor

With no more purpose in life than serving his master, Vader became the second man in the Empire. He had a personal palace on Coruscant. Darth's personal soldiers were the stormtroopers of the 501st Legion, who were called "Vader's Fist".

Vader carried out the tasks of Sidious, attracting large forces to the side of the Empire. His main task was Order 66, which was to find and destroy the remnants of the Jedi.

Leaving the past forever, the Sith changed the color of his sword to red.

In one of the first missions, Vader was sent by Sidious to Mercana to deal with clone commandos who refused to kill fellow Jedi. In this mission, the Sith were attacked by the Jedi Bol Shetak, who attempted to protect the commandos. In this duel, only thanks to the power, Vader managed to win. Vader himself considered this mission a failure, as he missed two more Jedi Roan Shrine and Oli Starstone.

The master's complaints about his own weakness led Sidious to send him to the Jedi Temple, where Vader was supposed to remember the massacre he committed there. Instead, the Sith hit memories and from that time on, he could no longer be in places that reminded him of the past: Naboo and Tatooine.

Vaidr's next victim was Fang Zar, a senator who had taken refuge in Bail Organa's palace. Although Sidious wanted Zar alive, Vader accidentally killed him. This was the second failure of the lord, for which he received a reprimand.

Weakness drove the Sith crazy. He wanted revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was responsible for this. When the Lord found out about the possible location of the Jedi, he went there. On Kessel, where Kenobi was supposed to appear, Vader was trapped by eight Jedi. The first two he killed with a sword, the third was strangled with a powerful hand. The pressure of the Jedi left the Sith without an arm, with a damaged leg, but Vader continued to fight until the soldiers of the 501st Legion came to the rescue.

Returning to the Emperor, Vader learned that Sidious had spread rumors about the destruction of 50 Jedi by an apprentice, in place of 8 with the help of clones (so Vader's greatness is far-fetched).

Attack on Kashyyyk

Vader continued his training, partnering with Imperial Moff Wilhuff Tarkin. Along with him, he used the presence of the Jedi on Kashyyyk as a reason to invade the planet. The purpose of this operation was to enslave the Wookiees, which were to be used in the construction of the Death Star.

When the bombardment of Kashyyyk began, Vader landed at the city of Kachiro, where the Jedi were hiding and hacked his way through the corpses of the Wookiees, moving towards the enemy positions. Vader defeated the five Wookiee Jedi, meeting with Master Roan Shrine, who had left him on Mercan.

The power and strength of Vader increased significantly, so he easily defeated Shrine, revealing to him the secret of his identity. Having defeated the master, Vader felt that he had achieved incredible power and from now on did not consider armor to be his prison.

After the victory of the Empire, Palpatine launched into the media messages about his student, mysterious to many inhabitants of the galaxy, and Vader, feeling the power, began to think about how to overthrow the teacher.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

On Kashyyyk, Vader also fought the Jedi and found his young son Galen in one of the houses. The Sith was about to kill the boy, but felt great power in him, taking him as his student.

No one knew that Vader had an apprentice. He began to train the boy, bringing up hatred and anger in him. Darth wanted to use the apprentice to oppose the Emperor, as Galen possessed great strength, greater than himself.

After 10 years of training, in 2 BBY, Vader's apprentice was ready. Sith christened him(Star Assassin) and gave him his first assignment, which was "the meaning of his life" to find the survivors of Order 66, the Jedi. At the apprentice's disposal, Vader issued a Proxy holodroid and a Rogue Shadow starship with a charming pilot.

After killing several Jedi, Vader appeared with Starkiller before Palpatine. Unexpectedly, he betrayed the student by "killing" him. As the Sith later explained to the surviving Starkiller, the Emperor found out about the student and the imaginary death saved his life.

In order to defeat Sidious, Vader sent Starkiller on a mission to gather all the members of the Alliance in order to destroy the Emperor. Dart's plan was cunning, he again framed his student, forcing him to gather all the enemies of the Empire in one place. When the meeting took place, all the heads of the Alliance were arrested. In the fight with the apprentice, Vader emerged victorious.

Starkiller survived and soon returned to take revenge on the teacher. Infiltrating the Death Star under construction, he fought the Sith Lord and defeated him. Sidious offered Galen to take Vader's place, but Marek chose the side of the world. To save the members of the Alliance, he sacrificed his own life, becoming the first Hero of the Rebellion.

After this incident, Vader seriously thought about how to overthrow Sidious.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2

In 1 BBY, Vader cloned the body of Galen Marek on Kamino. Many clones went insane until the perfect clone number 1138 was created. However, this clone fled, tormented by the memories of the original.

To get Starkiller back, Vader hired Boba Fett to steal Juno Eclipse, whom Marek was in love with.

Nothing good came of this, as Starkiller, having teamed up with the Alliance, struck at Kamino, where they created clones for the Empire. In the battle with the clone apprentice, Vader lost. So, Kamino was under the control of the Alliance, and Dart himself was captured. The Sith Lord was on trial, but Boba Fett saved him.

Vader's apprentice disappeared and all plans to overthrow the Emperor failed.

New Hope

Back in 0 BBY, Vader desired to locate the Rebel base and retrieve the stolen plans for the Death Star. According to the 501st Legion, the plans were on a ship from Alderaan flying to the Tantive IV.

The princess's ship was intercepted, but the plans slipped through the hands of the Sith. Interrogation of the senator from Alderaan also yielded nothing. Back then, Vader had no idea that he was torturing his own daughter.

Tracking the traces of the droid in which Leia hid the plans, Vader sent a team to Tatooine, where Owen and Bera Lars were executed while trying to find out information about the droid.

Vader proceeded to torture Leia, trying to get the location of the Rebel base from her. Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin suggested using another method of torture - genocide. Threatened with the destruction of Alderaan, Organa gave away the location - Dantooine. However, Tarkin destroyed the planet anyway.

Darth Vader vs Kenobi

"Now he is more machine than man, an evil twisted machine." Kenobi

Soon, the Death Star pulled the Millennium Falcon, which was near the destroyed Alderaan. On board the ship were:, and. For the first time in years, Vader felt the presence of his old master.

The Lord quietly wandered the corridors of the station until he met Obi-Wan. Their duel was short, as Kenobi simply extinguished his sword by merging with the Force. Despite this, Vader felt that he had avenged his crippled body.

After allowing the Millennium Falcon to leave with Lelei Organa and the plans for the Death Star aboard, Vader tracked the ship using a beacon that was installed on it.

The beacon led the Death Star to the planet Yavin, near which a legendary battle took place, the result of which was the destruction of the Empire's greatest weapon by the new Rebel hero - Luke Skywalker (Anakin's son). Vader himself, who fought in a TIE fighter, almost died.

For these actions, Vader received another reprimand from the Emperor.

Soon, Dart learned the name of the pilot who had the highest score in the Battle of Yavin, it turned out to be 19-year-old Skywalker. Vader wanted to capture his son in order to incline him to the dark side.

Luke was captured by the Empire several times, but he always managed to escape.

The Empire Strikes Back

In 3 ABY, a Rebel base on Hoth was discovered. When attacking the planet, most of the rebels managed to escape.

After a battle that ended in victory for the Empire, Vader was ordered by Sidious to capture Luke Skywalker, whom he wanted to become his new apprentice, replacing father with son.

In order to capture the Millennium Falcon, the Overlord used all his connections with the bounty hunters. He figured out where the ship went and ambushed Cloud City owned by Lando Calrissian, who won it in Sabakk. Han Solo, in agreement with Boba Fett, was frozen in carbonite and handed over to a mercenary. Leia Organa and Chewbacca were supposed to be Vader's captives, but were unexpectedly rescued by Calrissian.

To save his friends, Luke Skywalker also flew to Cloud City, who met in a duel with Vader. During the battle, the young Jedi lost his arm, after which the Sith Lord revealed his essence to him:

vader: « Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father?»

Luke: « Quite enough! He said you killed him!»

vader: « No. I'm your father!»

Refusing to join his father, Luke jumped into the mine.

Vader found his son's lightsaber, once his own, and a severed arm, which he presented to the Emperor as trophies.

Sidious began to notice changes in Vader, who was very proud of his son, whom he personally wanted to lure to the side of darkness. Therefore, the Emperor decided to kill Luke by sending him to Tatooine to Jabba's palace. However, Mara failed to get inside.

Return of the Jedi

Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker

In 4 ABY, Vader was overseeing the construction of the Death Star 2 when he sensed Luke approaching, in a shuttle bound for the moon Endor. Dart did not touch the shuttle.

On the moon, Luke himself surrendered to the Imperials and was taken to Vader. In an attempt to protect his son from Palpatine, Darth tried to convince him to join him, but Skywalker refused.

“I know that there is good in you. The emperor was unable to etch it entirely." Luke

Aboard the Death Star, in the presence of Palpatine, a decisive battle took place between Luke and Vader. Dart tried to persuade his son to the dark side by threatening the safety of Leia, Luke's sister. In anger, Skywalker cut off Vader's hand, which, like his own, turned out to be mechanical, forcing him to rethink the situation and extinguish the sword.

Palpatine wanted Luke to finish off his father, but he refused, which forced Vader to return to his bright beginning. In the dark heart of Darth, Anakin Skywalker woke up again, who, seeing how Palpatine was trying to kill his son with Force lightning, picked him up and threw him into the reactor shaft.

Palpatine's power damaged Vader's life support. He asked Luke to remove his mask so that he could see his son with his own eyes for the last time. Thus died the Chosen One who brought balance to the Force.

His spirit appeared to Luke and Leia, after which he found peace.
