The starting period was marked by intensive “training of teachers”: R. Entov taught the entire team of teachers, mostly former employees of academic institutions and Moscow State University, a course on the key problems of economic theory, and G. The principle of the School from the first day of its existence is a combination of rigorous, even cruel training with a discussion and solution of the burning problems of the Russian economy. Leading economists who worked in the Government, E. Yasin, A. Shokhin, S. Vasiliev, Y. Urinson, V. Kossov, E. Gavrilenkov, M. Kopeikin, V. Baranov, became professors at the HSE.

Story
Creation
The idea of creating the Higher School of Economics - a European-style economic school - was born at the turn of 1980-1990, when it became clear that the existing system of planned economic education in the country did not meet the requirements of the new political and economic situation. Then a group of teachers from the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University - Evgeny Yasin, Yaroslav Kuzminov, Revold Entov, Oleg Ananyin, Rustem Nureyev - after several attempts to introduce the basics of market economic theory into the curricula of existing universities, realized the need to build a new economic school, which from the very beginning would be based on the principles world economic science. This meant providing students with tools for analyzing and forecasting real processes, teaching them how to work with statistics and economic models, and giving them a common language with the world community of professional economists.
The first real attempt to create a HSE can be considered alternative departments of economic theory, organized at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1989-1990) and at the physics and history departments of Moscow State University (1990-1991). Students could choose between courses taught by young teachers and recent graduates of the economics faculty, and Marxist-Leninist political economy. Many of those who later formed the backbone of the SU-HSE went through the school of these departments. The methodology for teaching economic theory in a country with a transitional economy was also worked out there. Starting a new business was facilitated by the support of the Soros Foundation, which provided a one-year grant in 1989.

The starting period was marked by intensive "training of teachers": Revold Entov taught the entire team of teachers - mostly former employees of academic institutions and Moscow State University - a course on the key problems of economic theory, and Grigory Kantorovich updated their knowledge of mathematics. Since 1993, HSE lecturers have been regularly trained at leading European universities, primarily at the University of Rotterdam, whose Faculty of Economics - the largest in Europe - was a partner in the creation of the HSE within the framework of a grant from the European Union.
The SU-HSE principle from the very first day of its existence has been a combination of rigorous, even brutal preparation with discussion and solution of the burning problems of the Russian economy. The Higher School of Economics cannot boast of a turbulent history. The first brick of this European-oriented university was not laid by Peter I himself, and its corridors were not trampled by Lomonosov or Nietzsche.

This faculty should definitely be discussed separately. This is a diamond among pearls. A unique educational institution in the CIS. To create it back in 1997, the Higher School of Economics and the London School of Economics (one of the three leaders in economic education in the world) joined forces. And it turned out such a grandiose brainchild. Dormitories of the Higher School of Economics
The HSE buildings are scattered around the city, as are the dormitories. Today, the Higher School of Economics has 9 dormitories. Reviews about HSE dormitories are mostly positive, but utterly ironic. The whole humor lies in the fact that they are located in the Moscow region, and the road from the place of residence to the educational building is an inexhaustible ground for student jokes.
