Oge in English. Preparation for the oge

A year ago, I already touched on the topic of what is the best manual to choose for preparing for the OGE. As time goes by, the textbooks have also changed, as well as the requirements for the exam. Today I want to focus on those books by Russian authors that are most suitable for training for the main exam in English.

My experience of preparing for the OGE

I started preparing for this type of exam while still on maternity leave. Then my first experience was my husband's niece. It was a truly valuable experience and useful both for her and for me in particular. A whole series of articles is devoted to this. If you click on the rubric "OGE" in the blog menu on the left, you can read all the posts in detail.

VIDEO REVIEWS

I also often filmed video reviews of book novelties. You can find them by clicking on the links below...

Unfortunately, this year I don’t have any students preparing for the exam, and I’ll be honest, it’s sad. When you prepare a student for an exam, you are constantly in self-development of your professional skills and language. When it doesn't, it gets a little boring. Also, due to the heavy school load, now I do not have the opportunity to prepare any student.

I think enough preface and move on to the main thing.

Reference manuals

Quite recently, an explanatory manual from the series appeared on the Internet last year. "I will pass the OGE." This series also has an English language edited by Babushis E.E., N.N. Trubaneva. The surname Trubaneva is more familiar to me. The benefit looks like this:

I will pass the exam

What got me into it?

Firstly, the series itself “I will pass the OGE”, as well as the series “I will pass the exam”, wonderfully describes the step-by-step preparation for each part of the exam, for each task. I consider this a plus!

Secondly, the manual presents an analysis of typical mistakes of participants in the OGE of past years, and methodological recommendations are given.

I will give screenshots of some pages to the section "Listening".

section "Listening"

Here we see the same algorithm for completing the task.

Learning to do the task

When the material is explained in such a methodical way, it is easier for the teacher himself to explain it to the student. My rating is 5! I recommend this manual!

The next novelty, which attracted my attention and did not leave me indifferent, is a manual, ed. O.V. Terentyeva, L.M. Gudkova "English. A new complete reference book for preparing for the OGE."

"English. A new complete reference book for preparing for the OGE"

To be honest, I did not think that the manual would be so sensible.

pros

  • The handbook contains all sections of the written part of the exam, as well as its oral part.
  • each section contains the necessary language material, sample tasks and recommendations for their implementation.
  • the rules for filling out examination forms are presented (often time is not always given for this).
  • Each section describes typical mistakes when performing tasks.
  • There is a practical grammar guide. The key word here is "practical". After explaining the topic, exercises for training one or another grammatical phenomenon are presented.

The coolest feature in this book is that, without deviating far from the rule, exercises are given from the exam format. For example, in the "Grammar" section, the plural of nouns is given. After a couple of training exercises, we perform the exercises directly, those that are presented in the OGE format.

examples of tasks with only plurals.

And so is every grammatical phenomenon. This is great.

Wonderfully viewed the topic of word formation and provides the most comprehensive reference material.

example of prefixes with a negative value

exercise only for prefixes with a negative value

The tasks for writing and speaking are also well presented, but in a nutshell. My rating is also 5. I recommend!

Manuals for the oral part of the OGE

If the previous manuals have a number of advantages, then most of them still do not focus so much on the oral part. And the oral part, as we know, is not such a simple and unimportant thing.

So, I present to your attention the next novelty in the book market of manuals for the OGE in English.

OGE. English language. Oral part

What attracted me to it?

The manual contains 25 demonstration options, and most importantly, EXAMPLES OF PERFORMING ALL TASKS.

I am attaching photo screens.

As you can see, examples of sample answers are provided. This will be an excellent support for a poorly prepared student. In the third task, we are also presented with a sample of a monologue statement with speech turns and clichés.

I consider this book worthy for preparation for the oral part.

A good collection of Muzlanova E.S.

Muzlanova

The next brochure about which I wrote more than once already. This is A.V. Mishin's "Oral part. OGE" manual.

oral part

This book is worthy of praise and without any comments. Well, if you haven't read my review, you can look at the links above.

And one more to prepare for the oral part from the same series from the “Enlightenment” is the creation of O.N. Sukhanova.

preparing for the oral part of the OGE

I also wrote about it in previous posts.

By the way, if I'm not mistaken, you noticed change in oral ? Namely, the picture for task 3 disappeared. It distracted attention and caused some to stimulate to describe it, and not as a support for a monologue statement.

Well, and of course, where without benefits of training options.

Training Options

I think that the best option for training tests is the FIPI website.

Now there is a huge amount of literature with demo options, but not all of them are good, as it seems at first glance.

N.N. Trubaneva

Today I am finishing my post. I hope I didn’t tire you, my readers! I look forward to your comment. For convenience, there is now a Facebook comment form on the blog page. Who is also comfortable with the VKontakte comment form.

See you next time!

Preparation for the OGE (GIA) in English

For a long time I lived and worked in New York (USA), where I received my basic education. I speak English at native level. My Skills Expand teaching is accredited by the University of Cambridge, which confirms the CELTA certificate (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) - a certificate that gives the right to teach English as a foreign language to adults, which has international recognition, enjoys high authority and is an indicator of the high quality of teaching. In the lessons I do not use the Russian language (with rare exceptions) to enable students to fully immerse themselves in the language environment and use the following methods: through constant repetition. The method involves oral presentation of the material and repeated repetition of various lexical and grammatical structures under the guidance of a teacher.2) Direct Method (Direct method), which is also called Natural Method (Natural method). It is somewhat similar to the audiolingual approach, as it involves multiple repetition and practice of various structures. However, the main difference is that the language is presented inductively, that is, the teacher does not explain the rule to the students, but rather helps them to understand and derive it on the basis of the language material. It is also worth noting that both in the audiolingual and in the direct method, the teacher uses only English. in a certain order. For example, before studying Present Continuous time, you need to study the verb to be, with which this time is formed. 4) The Silent Way (Silent method), where much attention is paid to student independence: the teacher, as the name implies, does not speak (for example, does not give detailed and lengthy explanations of grammar). Instead, he acts as an assistant who guides students. Pronunciation is of great importance - a lot of time is devoted to it in each lesson. Vocabulary and grammar are also regularly reviewed. Often students do not even write formal tests on the studied material; instead, the teacher evaluates their progress from lesson to lesson.5) Total Physical Response (Total physical response), which is based on the principle of "do by learning". It works well with younger students – preschoolers and elementary graders. In the lessons, the execution of commands and instructions is practiced, for example: “Stand up!” - “Get up!”, “Close the door!” - "Close the door!" In this way, the student memorizes the simplest phrases, which become more and more complex over time.6) Task Based Learning, where language learning is based on the performance of a communicative task. For example, the teacher gives students the task to act out a dialogue on the topic “In a restaurant”. Students in pairs or groups perform it using only those lexical and grammatical means that they have. Then an analysis is made of which language is needed to successfully complete the task, the teacher gives the students the necessary vocabulary and grammar, after which a similar task is performed using new language tools. 7) Community Language Learning (Community Method), where the basis is the work of students in a group; they help each other and share their existing language knowledge. The teacher again acts only as an assistant, and not as a teacher in the classical sense of the word. The main task of education is to teach students how to communicate, and not to learn all the grammar thoroughly or to be able to translate texts. Communication between the teacher and students is conducted entirely or almost entirely in English. Communication of students is also encouraged in any form; even if there are errors or inaccuracies in speech, they are not as important as the process of communication itself. I teach children and adults of any level from spoken English to preparing for exams such as the OGE (GIA), Unified State Examination, CAE, CPE, FCE, IELTS, KET, PET, SAT, TOEFL, YLE , TOLES and BEC. I work on contractual terms with prepayment.

We studied with a tutor Maya Viktorovna Chernysheva, unfortunately not for long, there was little time left before the exam. My daughter praised Maya Viktorovna and was happy to Expand went to study. All reviews (48)

Preparation for the OGE (GIA) in English

Current level of language proficiency: advanced (C1). I am preparing for the TOEFL exams. Completed an internship in England in 2012 (Churchill House School Expand of English Language). I know very well the structure, criteria for evaluating the work of the OGE and the Unified State Examination (I have certificates of participation in webinars from 2015 to the present - see diplomas). In the learning process, I use only communicative teaching methods, including methods used by native speakers ( I am registered and regularly improve on such educational portals as English Club TV, We play a lot, and not only with children (online games, board games, cards, tables, flash cards). My students actively expand their vocabulary with the help of individually selected audio resources with native speakers (Canada, UK), which I send after each lesson as homework. In this way I try to immerse the student in the everyday language environment. This is the key to success!I am constantly learning the principles of working with restless children, with reduced attention and memory .But all this is not as important as my sincere love for the English language.I like the structure, sounding nie. I like to pass on my love to my students. I like to see how what seemed complicated and incomprehensible turns out to be clear. I love a non-standard approach to the learning process. My task is to captivate the student with English, give them a taste for the language, and only then learn grammar (although it is, of course, necessary). LOVE your mistakes and don't be afraid to make them. EVERYONE ALWAYS makes mistakes, even top notch professionals! I will help you overcome the barrier, fear, teach you how to learn and correct your grammar. free Contact

It is in my power to help you in any situation at any level of language complexity, including fundamental preparation for any exams. It is not difficult with the right organization of classes. A few words about my teaching methods. It is a symbiosis of creativity and mathematics. We remember what is interesting to us and forget what is difficult and boring. The more interesting the lessons, the better the memory works and the more creativity and flexibility on the part of the teacher is required. On the other hand, knowledge needs structure, orderliness and stability, and mathematics comes to the rescue here. For example, for people who do not know what to say on a topic, I have prepared formulas that work wonders, and even the most silent person can talk on any topic, and a student taking a state or international exam can be sure that that the formula given to him is suitable for all cases and will help you correctly and simply express your thoughts in an essay, letter, article, etc. Exam results for 2018: - USE - 85 points; 92 points; 93 points; 95 points.- IELTS (academic) - 7.5.- First (FCE) - grade A.- KET - Pass with distinction (grade 5).- OGE - grade 5.

Very soon, the 9th grade is waiting for the first exam in their life - the OGE - the main state exam. This year, the honor of being the first was given to foreign languages. On May 26, ninth-graders will pass the written part, which will include tasks in listening, word formation and writing, and on May 27 they will have an oral part: reading aloud, answering questions from an electronic assistant and, finally, an oral monologue, which this article is devoted to.

Topics for preparing for the oral part of the OGE in English can be downloaded, - ed.)

How to score the maximum number of points for a monologue?

JUDGING CRITERIA

In order to competently compose an oral monologue statement, you need to know and understand the criteria by which it is evaluated well. There are only three criteria: the solution of a communicative task (K5), the organization of the utterance (K6), the language design of the utterance (K7). What is behind each of these points, read below.

It must be remembered that only 1.5 minutes are given for preparation, and 2 minutes for the answer, which means that there will be little time to think, and therefore certain response strategies should be developed, so-called “blanks” should be developed.

(The official document with the evaluation criteria is called "Codifier of content elements and requirements for the level of training of students for the main state exam in English", it is posted in the public domain, - ed.)

K5 - SOLUTION OF THE COMMUNICATION PROBLEM

So, the solution of the communicative task involves a complete, accurate and detailed coverage of the three aspects of the main topic indicated in the task. In addition, you need to comply with the required volume - 11-12 sentences.

In order to get the maximum number of points for the criterion (3 in total), you need to say three, and even four sentences for each aspect. Simple arithmetic is used: 3 sentences for 3 aspects (three times three equals 9) plus introductory and final sentences (2 in total), we get 11 in total - what the doctor ordered. But in order to protect yourself from lowering the score on this criterion due to insufficient volume, it is really better to say more somewhere.

Why do scores decrease according to the K6 criterion? For insufficient volume: 8-9 offers are worth 2 points, and for 6-7 you will get only 1.

In addition, the score is reduced if the topic is not fully disclosed: for one aspect that is not fully disclosed, you will receive 2 points, if you incompletely cover all aspects of the topic or do not disclose two of them, while the third is fully disclosed, you will receive 1 point.

If you have not disclosed two aspects of the content, while the third aspect is also not disclosed, unfortunately, you will receive 0. Zero points are also given if the volume of the statement is insufficient: less than 5 sentences.

If the graduate receives 0 points for this criterion, the entire assignment is scored 0 points.

K6 - ORGANIZATION OF THE STATEMENT

To get a maximum (2 points) for the organization of the statement, you need to remember the introductory and final phrases, correctly use the means of logical connection (that is, linking words).

The introductory phrase is already ready: we are building it based on the task. For example, the assignment says: “You are going to give a talk about films.” The opening line is the same: "I'm going to give a talk about films." Just don't rely on reading it from the screen: the first phrase will disappear as soon as the recording starts.

The final phrase is also very simple and will not change. You can say: “I’ve come to the end of my talk. Thank you for listening" or "This is the end of my talk. Thank you for listening". If you see that the seconds allotted to you for the story are rapidly disappearing, and you do not have time to say the above phrases, at least say: “That’s all for now”, and may you be happy (the score will remain).

Linking words in speech are no longer as easy to automate as introductory and final phrases, but not to say that it is difficult.

Your monologue on the exam consists of 5 parts:
1) introductory phrase;
2) 1 aspect;
3) 2 aspect;
4) 3 aspect;
5) closing phrase.

Just make it a rule to start each part with a linking word. For this they are needed. Without them, your speech will become similar to the notorious proverb: "In the garden of elderberry, in Kyiv - uncle."

For example, when covering the first aspect of the topic “Films”, which can be formulated as “what kinds of films modern teenagers enjoy”, one can insert a non-binding “actually”, or say, “in fact”, “to tell the truth” . For example: “To tell the truth, modern teenagers enjoy different kinds of films. Thrillers, comedies, adventures, science fiction films and even horrors are among teenagers’ favorite films. Besides, some of teens prefer watching action films and, unfortunately, crime films.”

Greetings, my dear readers.

I know that Russian-speaking students are insanely afraid of passing oral exams. And the oral part of the OGE in English seems completely impossible (not to mention). But believe me, proper and timely preparation is all you need to make sure you get the highest score on the test. Therefore, today we are waiting for a complete analysis of the oral part, as well as examples of tasks with answers.

What is it and what has changed in recent years

The oral part of the test takes only 6 minutes! But in 6 minutes you have to show everything you are capable of. You will be tested for everything: pronunciation and speech speed, ability to understand questions and give a quick and clear answer to them, your ability to conduct an unprepared speech for 2 minutes.

Since 2016, the structure of the oral part has changed radically. You will have to cope with not two, but three tasks: you will need to read the text aloud, answer questions from the dialogue, and also make a monologue based on a picture (and maybe without it this year!). Everything seems to be completely different from what it was only 3-4 years ago.

What it consists of and how it goes

The oral part consists, as I said, of 3 parts, which in total take 15 minutes, of which 6 minutes go directly to the answer, and the rest - to preparation.

Did you know that with regular classes 2 times a week with an intelligent tutor, the level of your readiness for the exam after 8 months increases by about 20-30%??? If a high score is important to you, then I highly recommend a good tutor who will help you choose EnglishDom.

Attention! Use promo code when paying for lessons lizasenglish2 to take advantage of a nice gift +2 bonus lessons!

Read more about the EnglishDom school in or go to her website and find out for yourself!

  • Part 1 - reading a passage of text.

The task seems easy, right? Especially when you consider that you are given 1.5 minutes to read beforehand. And after that - another 2 minutes to read aloud. You must read clearly, understandably, with the correct pronunciation of sounds and the correct intonation. And you only have 5 chances to make a mistake. After that - points are reduced (that is, you will receive 1 or 0 points from 2 possible!).

Let's take an example(click on image to enlarge).

First of all, pay attention to reading long and short sounds. In red, I underlined the words with long and short [i].

d i fferent,l i ved,h i dden, - here percussive sounds are read as short

p eo ple, bel ie ved,n ee ded, - and here they are read as long

In blue, I underlined the words that have a short and a long [u]

r oo m, t oo ls - here the sound is long

c oul d, p u t - here it is short

In green, I highlighted the words where you can notice the sound [a], but again, they will differ in longitude:

d ar k - long sound

h u nters - short sound

A very important point here is the correct pronunciation of interdental sounds ( words in the text are underlined in yellow), which children so often like to replace with Russian [v, f] or.

sympa th etic, th ey - tongue clamped with teeth and go!

In the yellow boxes, I placed the phrases on which I want to show the differences in intonation. In the first case, we see a special question - and in these types of questions, the intonation should be descending, in other words, it should fall. Listen

The second phrase is an introductory construction, which, firstly, must be separated from the rest of the sentence by a pause, and secondly, read with rising intonation. Listen.

Hope you hear the difference! Observe, my dears, and those who evaluate your answer will give you the highest score with great pleasure!

  • Part 2 - answers to questions.

The task of this part is a dialogue where you will have to answer 6 questions. This part of the test was created in order to check how quickly, correctly and competently a student can use foreign speech.

For each answer to a question, you can get 1 point. If you answer too short where open answers are required, or make a lot of mistakes, you do not get your point for the answer.

What I can advise you is to learn a couple of cliches for those answers where you need to express your opinion or give advice. For example:

In my opinion … - In my opinion…

From my point of view…-Cmypointsvision

I reckon … - I think …

I advise … - I advise…

Youd better do ... you better do ...

You should do.... You should do...

In addition, it is important to answer clearly, without going into the wilds and follow the grammatical rules!

So, an example of a task in the format of a question and answer:

How old are you?

I"m 15 years old.

What's your hobby and why are you interested in it?

- My hobby is swimming. I "m interested in it because I adore swimming - it makes me cheerful and confident.

How much time a week do you spend on your hobby?

- As a rule, I spend on it about 4 hours a week.

What hobbies are the most popular with teenagers nowadays?

- From my point of view the most popular hobbies with teenagers now are computer games and some extreme sports like snowboarding.

Why do you think people take up hobbies?

- In my opinion people take up hobbies in order to find new friends, to get some new skills and just to feel happier.

What would you advise a person who wants to start a hobby?

You should find a hobby which will give you pleasure. If I were you I would go to the nearest sports club and find out what they offer...

  • Part 3 - a monologue based on a picture.

You will be given 1.5 minutes to prepare this task, and 2 minutes to complete it. Before your eyes you will have a picture ( but it is needed only for support, and not for description! ) and questions to be answered. This task is difficult, to be honest, but it is estimated in whole 7 points.

Note: in 2018, the picture is planned to be removed and only questions remain.

Let's see an example:

-Why do people like traveling.

-What way of traveling do you prefer and why.

-Whether you prefer to be a package tourist or to be a backpacking traveler. why.

My answer would be:

“And now I am going to talk about travelling.

People may travel for different reasons. For one group of people it may be the chance to spend their vacation at a completely different place from the one they are used to. For others it may be the way of living - their lifestyle.

Personally I prefer sight-seeing type of travelling. As I am keen on history I cannot stand the idea of not visiting all the historical places in Europe or Asia. What is more, I prefer traveling by bus as it allows me to spend a lot of time on the road and think about everything I need. Besides, it is much cheaper than traveling by plane.

According to this I may conclude that I am an absolutely backpacking traveler. The idea that you can spend one day in one city and move to another part of the country the following day appeals to me very much.

In the end I would like to say that traveling broadens our minds and gives us an amazing experience we will never forget. Besides, you will be left with unforgettable memories. What can be better?

How to prepare

Preparing for an oral exam is hard work. But finding a simulator for it will not be so difficult. I can recommend the following guides:

  • "English language. OGE. oral part. Author - Radislav Milrud.
  • "OGE-2016. English language". Author - Yu.A. Veselov.
  • Publisher's books macmillan, about this exam .

Recently, I have been purchasing most of the manuals and textbooks for myself and my students online. There you can always buy cheap and get it quickly. My favorite stores:

The training tasks in these textbooks are selected specifically for the level, and their number is enough for you to practice. What is even more important is that you can buy them in any bookstore (including online stores).

Even easier and, in my opinion, more interesting is to use online OGE simulator (GIA) by LinguaLeo. You can also find other high-quality and really effective English courses there, which I recommend to everyone!

Do not forget, my dears, that I am constantly sharing new tips on how to improve your English and how to better prepare for the exam. Subscribe to my blog newsletter and be the first to know how to succeed on the test. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments!

Until then, I say goodbye.
