In the next 2017 In 1999, RSPPU became an experimental platform for the Institute for the Development of Education of the Russian Academy of Education "Innovative Models of Educational Systems in the Continuity of Lifelong Education", and the Institute for Lifelong Education (INO) was created on the basis of the Faculty of Advanced Studies and the Department for the Development of Information Networks and Technical Support. According to the results of a large-scale study of the scientific productivity of universities, conducted by the analytical center "Expert", RSPPU is among the 15 best universities in Russia in the field of social sciences. RSPPU becomes the conductor of the mission of expanding the social engagement of universities: a representative of the university became a participant in the seminar of experts on the reform of higher education "Universities and Social Inclusion", held at the University of Nicosia (Republic of Cyprus).

Both humanitarian and technical areas are developing harmoniously. In order to develop cooperation with organizations of higher education in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and other countries, RSPPU held an international online conference "Language education as the basis for the formation of university graduates' readiness for intercultural communication."

With such results, the university approached the next election of the rector, announced at an extraordinary meeting of the RSPPU Academic Council.

The popularity of RSPPU among applicants has grown: the university entered the top 5 pedagogical universities in Russia based on the results of monitoring the quality of admission to universities in 2018 and 2017. This was also facilitated by the fact that the university ranked second in the city in terms of the number of gubernatorial scholarships, second only to UrFU. And the fact that the victory in the competition and the availability of federal grant support allowed students to large-scale implement the WorldSkills of RSVPU, “Names of Heroes” projects, hold an all-Russian seminar for the organizers of student activist schools and the RSVPU Media School. The reputation of the university was strengthened by the fact that the level of training provided students with participation in international events in Yekaterinburg as translators, in particular, in the World Cup.

RSPPU continued to work on deepening the integration of the university into the economic and social structure of the Russian Federation, starting the implementation of a program of targeted training of teaching staff for enterprises in the region. Master's diplomas were awarded to teachers of the educational center of the group of enterprises of the Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant (ChTPZ), participating in the corporate educational program "The Future of White Metallurgy".

The success of the team of university scientists involved in the international project "RU Ecvet" led to the opening of the National Training Center "ECVET RSPPU" at the Institute of Continuing Education of the RSPPU. The University has joined in the experiment to implement the concept of Russian education export in terms of vocational education and training.
