In the 18th century, the lands came under the control of the Russian Empire. From the middle of the 19th century, the development of coal deposits began. Metallurgical production was founded, a railway was laid. Near them, the village of Dmitrievsk arose.

The formation of Soviet power was accompanied by a confrontation between the Bolsheviks and the Whites. In 1920, the settlement received the status of a city. Since 1931, it has acquired its modern name. During the Second World War, it was captured by the Wehrmacht and destroyed during the fighting. After liberation, industry revived in it, new areas appeared.

Makeevka is the pearl of Donbass!

Soared up the hills of heaps!
Lost in history forever!
And announced to everyone with a cathedral ring,
What a symbol of heroism and labor you are!

Chorus:
Makeevka! Makeevka! Our city is forever young!
You are the city of labor glory! You are our favorite city!
We are rightfully proud of your military glory!
Glory to you, our home! Glory to the people of Makeyevka!

She gave us a cool character,
Letting into life, caring Mother,
It has a free spirit! It has goodness and strength,
Perseverance and the ability to win!

Chorus.

You are the steelworkers, you are the miners' brotherhood,
Lightnings of swimming trunks in the blue sky!
And people are your main wealth!
Makeevka - you are our dear home!

Chorus.

The economic crisis of the 1990s practically destroyed many enterprises or severely undermined their work. Under the coal industry restructuring program, most of the mines were closed. The coal industry of Makiivka is going through a difficult time: coal mining enterprises declared unpromising have been liquidated. Now there are 9 mines in the city. All enterprises have coal reserves. The residents of the villages near the mines have nowhere else to work, people are leaving. The program to create additional jobs on mine liquidation projects is not being implemented due to insufficient funding. For the same reason, it is not easy to solve the issue of providing housing for former workers of closed mines, who are registered with apartments. Completion of work on the construction, completion of residential buildings, provided for by liquidation projects, is being delayed. The peculiarity of the closure of the Makeevka mines is that they are all knocked down (connected) by old mining operations and have a hydraulic connection with each other, therefore it is impossible to liquidate a single mine without building an additional drainage complex on the nearby ones. This leads to an increase in the cost of maintaining mines while waiting for physical liquidation.

The total volume of industrial products sold in selling prices of enterprises in 2010 amounted to UAH 16.0 billion. (about 8.5% of the total regional volume of sales).

Streets of Makeevka

The address system of the city is the most complex not only in the Donbass, but, perhaps, in the whole of Ukraine. Duplicate street names are not only a problem in Makiivka, but here the number of duplicate names is simply incredible. According to some estimates, there are 157 streets with the same name in the city, 65 streets repeating three times, 12 - four times, as well as 8 streets - 5 times, and even streets with six times - st. Oktyabrskaya, and an eightfold repetition - st. Stepnaya, and 5 times this street is found in different parts of one Soviet district. Created in 2008, a detailed atlas of Makiivka (author: Vyacheslav Chuprin) in the street index specifies the district and even the microdistrict of each duplicated street. This atlas is the first serious attempt to streamline the Makiivka address system. It has been adopted by all state structures of the city from urban architecture to law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Therefore, it is logical to consider the observations presented in it to be sufficiently reliable.

Square of Glory st. Lenin sq. Guards

The confusion in the address system is brought about by the ubiquitous repetition of not only streets, but also house numbers on the same street. For example, house number 2 on Uspensky Street is found 3 times in its various parts, st. The deputy's line from the center increases to number 158, then starts again from the first numbers, and after a few blocks the odd side, interrupting at number 173, continues from the 157th).

Fractional numbering of houses also introduces confusion. That is, not only all streets are named, but also all lanes. The houses at the crossroads have two numbers referring to both geonames. The address is written as a fraction. If at the intersection of the main and secondary streets the number along the main street falls into the numerator, then at the intersection of equivalent streets there is no clear dependence. Such an address system is found in many cities, but here it is simply casuistic. The fact is that some perpendicular lanes bear the name of a subsidiary street with the prefix "lane 1", "lane 2" or "passage 1", "passage 2". Moreover, often such a numbered lane in its different parts is attributed to different "daughter" streets. As an example - Olkhovskaya street with 17 numbered lanes. Three large streets run parallel to Olkhovskaya - Parkovaya, Lunacharskogo and Yaroshenko. Accordingly, Lane 13 is closer to the street. Parkovaya is referred to as "st. Parkovaya, lane 13", closer to the street. Lunacharsky - "st. Lunacharsky, lane 13 ", etc.)

The geonim of Makeevka is not only streets, avenues, boulevards, alleys, neighborhoods. There are also quite specific geonyms:

  • The passage is the same as the aforementioned numbered lane, which is written along with the name of the daughter street: “st. Trubitsyna, passage 3.
  • The village is the same as the microdistrict, only with one-story buildings. For example: "pos. Trubny, house 10.
  • A quarter is the same as a neighborhood. For example, "Quarter 761, building 1".
  • The plot is the same as the microdistrict, quarter. For example: "4th Plot, building 10".
  • A colony is the same as a village. For example: "Colony Maria, house 10".
  • Departmental quarters: "3rd VGSO, house 10", "MakNII, house 10" - this is the quarter of the 3rd militarized mine rescue squad and the town of the Makeevsky Research Institute for Safety in the Mining Industry.

The specific attitude to the new microdistricts led to a separate numbering of the 9-storey buildings and the "old" 4- and 5-storey buildings. So, in the middle of the Central microdistrict, among the nine-story buildings, there are several old low-rise buildings belonging to the old forgotten streets and actually representing a unique address: st. Ryabtseva-1, st. Bluchera-6, st. Babarina-42, st. Karmelyuka-10, st. Petrovsky-3 and st. Petrovsky-5. In the list of streets of the mentioned atlas of Makiivka, references to these streets are indicated with the house number: "Bluchera-6 (address)".

In the early 1990s, streets in Makiivka were massively renamed, especially in the village of Khanzhenkov. In most cases, these renamings were only episodic, and a few months later the streets were returned to their former names, which is confirmed by entries in the passports and other documents of residents. It is not known exactly where these names were found by the creators of electronic maps, but in various online maps (Google maps, Yandex maps) many streets have erroneous names. So, Kuibyshev Street on Google maps is called Samarin Street, and Frunze Street, parallel to it and three times longer, is called Mametov Lane. In the center of the city, historically established "lines" live firmly in the hearts and minds of residents. Few people will tell you where Mendeleev Street is, but everyone knows the 22nd line. Although it's the same.

And the last important feature. the city has many randomly built-up villages, popularly referred to as "Nakhalovka". Here the numbering of houses is absolutely chaotic with “popping up” 300 or even 500 numbers among the 14th and 30th.

Makeevka(Ukrainian Makіїvka, in 1920-1931 - Dmitrievsk listen)) is a city in Vostochnaya, de jure part of the Donetsk Oblast, de facto since 2014 in the Donetsk People's Republic. It borders with Donetsk.

Administrative division

The city practically merged territorially with, in fact, it is its satellite city, although it has its own pronounced character. Included in the Donetsk agglomeration. Like most Donbass mining towns, it is a conglomeration of individual villages, merged with each other in places.

There are five administrative regions:

  1. Miner
  2. Kirovsky
  3. Soviet
  4. Central City
  5. Krasnogvardeisky

For subordinate settlements, see the article Makeevka City Council.

Since 2014, local self-government in the city has been carried out by the Administration of the city of Makeevka.

Physical and geographical characteristics

In the northwestern suburbs Makeevka there is the source of the Kalmius River (the city of Yasinovataya, within the city limits) and the Upper Kalmius reservoir ( located to the east of the reservoir, the city of Yasinovataya - to the north, the village of Mineralnoe - to the west).

The Kalmius channel serves as a border Makeevka with the city on its western section to the Nizhnekalmiussky reservoir.

Along the northern edge Makeevka the section (village Krinichnaya in the east - the city of Yasinovataya in the west) of the Seversky Donets - DONBASS canal passes, replenishing the Verkhnekalmiusskoye reservoir in the upper reaches of the Kalmius with water from the Seversky Donets.

Climate

Moderate continental, arid, with relatively short cold winters and moderately hot summers. The average annual rainfall is about 400 mm. The average annual number of hours of sunshine reaches 2500, in July there are about 380 hours, in December - 80 hours.

  • Winter relatively cold, windy, with frequent thaws and fogs. Snow rarely stays longer than 14 days after falling. The total number of days with snow cover during the winter usually does not exceed 40. The temperature is unstable and most often ranges from −5 to +5 °C.
  • Spring early, in some years comes as early as February. In March, it is still cool, the temperature can either rise to +15 ° C and above, or drop to mild frosts. In early April, frosts can still occur at night, but only a few times. Often the temperature during the day already exceeds +15 +20 °C. From the 2-3rd week of the month, the flowering of fruit trees begins.
  • Summer comes already in late April - early May and lasts until the end of September - early October, that is, 5 months. The peak of the summer temperature maximum is shifted to the first half of August. On average, summer has 35 days with temperatures of 30°C or more. In some years, temperatures can reach 40 °C or more. The heat is tolerated quite easily, taking into account the air humidity of about 30%.
  • Autumn occurs in late September - early October. During the day, the temperature in October ranges from + 10 to +18 ° C, warming up to +20 ° C and above is possible. Frosts are possible at night. In November, both light frosts and warming up to +15 ° C and above are possible.

It should be noted that the Donetsk agglomeration generates the effect of a heat island, when, due to the heating of vast urban spaces, the temperature in the city is about 2 °C higher than the average for the area. It is most noticeable at night during the warm season.

Population

In terms of population, Makiivka ranks third in the region.

Quantity at the beginning of the year.

Rapid growth in the early 1930s was associated with the expansion of the official boundaries of the city and the inclusion of neighboring working mining settlements, such as Khanzhenkovo, into Makeevka. During the period from the 1979 census to 2015, the population of the city decreased by 8.8 thousand people (more than 20%), as in other large cities, it is aging.

The address system of the city is the most complex not only in Ukraine, but throughout Central Europe.

Square of Glory

st. Lenin

sq.

In the city center, the historical "lines" live firmly in the hearts and minds of the residents. Few people will tell you where Mendeleev Street is, but everyone knows the 22nd line. Although it's the same.
