2. Some technologies are more important to us than others.

1) What technologies would people below not be able to live without? Why are they important to these people? (reading/listening to specific information)

Translation option No. 1

I could not live without a computer at home. I use it all the time. It's like a typewriter and address book for me, and it's also used for spell checking. Besides, I can go online and find out everything about everything, it's a wonderful source of information. I have developed my own website and I upload information for the school there. In addition, some websites are full of quizzes, games and contests, which is all you need to have fun on your computer. You can play and learn from it. This is extremely important. I don't know how I ever managed to live without it. But my older sister thinks that people are getting too dependent on computers. She thinks we rely on them too much. My sister says, “You can't rely on all the information, you don't know who wrote it or where it came from. Being addicted to something, especially a lifeless machine that can easily break down, is not good. Besides, computers cannot replace meeting with friends.”

I probably couldn't live without my car. Convenience seems like the most common and most logical answer: cars get you where you want, when you want. I can drive freely and comfortably wherever I want. In addition, it allows me to live where I want, since I can easily get to the place I need by car. In addition, the car is a way of self-expression. I really hate being without her. I think a car is more of a necessity than a luxury. But my wife thinks there are so many cars in the cities. Some people use them when they can walk, such as when they are going to buy a newspaper from a newsstand. It is necessary to understand the problems caused by the machine. Pollution, accidents, etc. She says cars are useful but not important, and it's great when cars are banned from city shopping areas. I do not agree with this situation, but I have to accept it. My wife prefers to go to work using the city's transportation system. She says that during rush hour, driving from our house to her work takes longer than walking. But I prefer to use my car. She suits me.

I couldn't imagine my life without my phone or should I say phones, because I also have a cell phone. I need a phone to contact friends or call the police or an ambulance. It's almost impossible for me to live without my phones. I have a cordless phone at home, which I find saves time when you have a handset right at your fingertips. But my mother was against buying a cordless phone, because if there is a problem with the electricity, it doesn't work and you are completely lost. She also thinks that it's more of a luxury to have a mobile phone and it's too expensive, more of a problem than a value. In addition, she says that mobile phones are dangerous to health. Radiation can cause headaches and even more dangerous diseases. I don't believe her. For me, my phone is really something priceless.

I can't imagine my life without my phone, or better to say without phones, because I still have a mobile phone. I need a phone to call friends, the police or an ambulance. Living without a phone is almost impossible. At home I have a telephone without a wire (radio telephone). I find that a lot of time is saved when the tube is at hand. But my mother was against the cordless telephone, because if the electricity goes out, you are left without communication. She also believes that a mobile phone is a luxury. It's too expensive and more trouble than it's worth. In addition, she says that mobile phones are dangerous to health. Waves can lead to headaches and more dangerous illnesses. I don't believe her. In today's tech-driven world, it's all about being fast – faster than the competitors, fast enough to get it all done, fast enough to leave you some free time. Comcast recently announced it will begin offering Gigabit Pro , a new residential Internet service that offers speeds at 2-Gigabits-per-second. In tech speak, it sounds cool…but what does this mean for US?

This massive new multi-gig speed will be something that I know I will not be able to live without. It reminded me of my favorite tech device that I could NEVER live without. Remember the original cell phones they were more annoyance than help. Now, I cannot imagine a world without my cell. These new internet speeds are building infrastructure for the future, where these fiber-run networks will be the norm.

10 Reasons I Can't Live Without My Cell Phone

1. Email App

Since I own my own business, I could not run my business effectively without having email on my phone. I never miss an opportunity when I have my email coming to my phone. I cannot imagine waiting to get home to check my email. This is by far my most used app on my phone. I used to have on the front page but had to hide in a folder so that I would not check it every time I looked at my phone. It has made more efficient looking at it a little less than normal.

2.Instagram

I am seriously addicted to Instagram! It is my go to social media application partly for the blog and partly because I adore photos!

3. Facebook

I keep up with blogging, family, and friend new through Facebook. I would not be able to have so many friends if it weren't for my phone's Facebook app.

4. Streaming TV

I watch a ton of TV on my phone while doing all kinds of activities in the house. I watch while I wash dishes, do laundry, put on makeup and tons more activities. All these TV apps make it so easy to watch.

5.Great Camera

The phone cameras have come a long way since my first camera phone in the early 2000s. I remember thinking, why would I need a camera on a phone when I can take better pics with my real camera. My phone has enabled me to leave my camera and computer at home on trips. It enables me to walk around with a small clutch rather than a huge camera bag.

6.Great Video Camera

As a new mom, I am constantly capturing cute unforgettable moments. The great video on my phone allows me to capture these moments on the spot, so they don't fade with my horrible memory.

7. Texting

The world before texting was filled with awkward phone calls. Life is so much easier now that I can communicate via text.

8.Fitness Monitoring

My 10,000 walking goal is so much easier to obtain with my phone monitoring my steps.

9 Audible App

Audible is an addiction that I've had for the last eight years. Instead of sitting down and reading books, I listen to them through my Audible app. It started when I had a long commute to work, and now I listen to 30 books per year on top of the books that I read in paperback. I cannot imagine living without my phone so I can get my book fix.

10. Podcast App

My podcast obsession stemmed from my love of audiobooks. Now they seem to be getting more popular, there are more varieties of podcast options. I could not live without them either!

My favorite gadget is my tablet. With it for me it is never boring. On it very conveniently and to play and be engaged in business. Thanks to it I shouldn't carry in school a heavy bag with a lot of books, it is enough to take a tablet only. In it can so many games will go in, how many in the childhood would go in a box. On a tablet I can listen to music and chatting with friends without special problems. Without it sometimes to me happens boringly, but it doesn't mean that it is necessary to be dependent on technologies. I at any time can take the book and with pleasure to read. Anything after all won't replace a smell of fresh wood with the printed text. However modern technologies allow to collect all hobbies in one device, these to me like my tablet

Read through my material must-haves and then answer the true or false questions below. Make sure you tell us five of your material must-haves too!

material things are objects that we can touch e.g. books, money.
emotional things are things we cannot touch e.g. love.

1. My Blackberry

I "ve only had my Blackberry for about a year, but I am already worryingly addicted to it. I use it for everything, phone calls, texts and emails of course, but much more too. I read the newspaper on it, find new recipes, check train times, listen to music and take photos! I always carry it with me, though I try not to check it when I "m spending quality time with people. It "s not nice when you"re talking with someone and they are constantly checking their phone. But I love my blackberry and won't be getting a new phone for a while! I don't think the Iphone is as good!

2. The internet

I "ve had access to the internet since I was about twelve, although it has come a long way since then. I remember waiting an hour for one song to download; now it takes ten seconds. The internet is a great tool for staying in touch with my friends who live all over the world. It's also great for my studies. I can "t imagine writing an essay without the help of the internet. It also of course, enables me to write these lessons for you!

3. A hot shower

There are a few times I "ve had to go without one of these for a couple of days and it makes me extremely miserable! Not having a hot shower is one of the reasons why I hate camping...well that and the spiders and the rain...I always have one to wake myself up in the morning and without that and coffee, I don't think I would make it out of bed! Sometimes the hot water in my flat working and it puts me stops in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

4. A comfortable bed

Likewise to a hot shower, without this I am not a nice person! My favorite bed in the world is the one at my parent's house. It is made from a special type of foam that molds to the shape of your body. I always feel like I've had a great night's sleep when I wake up in that bed. The place I hate trying to sleep in airplanes. I might get two hours rest if I"m lucky and I wake up with terrible neck pain every time. When I have my own flat I "m going to buy a kings sized bed with a memory foam mattress. I might put a kettle and a fridge right next to it so I can have coffee and breakfast without getting up!

5.Chocolate

Ahh delicious chocolate. I am not as addicted as I once was, but I still love to eat it more than the doctor recommends. I have tried going without it before, the longest I "ve lasted was a month and it was extremely challenging. I will never understand people who say they don" t like chocolate. They must be lying. When I was teaching in Cape Town I celebrated my 23rd birthday. The students and teachers bought me so much chocolate I nearly exploded! I hope they didn't think I was going to share it...

Now decide if the following statements are true or false:

  • 1. Caroline even checks her blackberry when she's with friends.

  • 2. Even though she has a Blackberry, she would prefer an Iphone.

  • 3. Caroline uses the internet to help with her studies.

  • 4. Caroline will probably go camping this summer.

  • 5. She never sleeps well on airplanes.

  • 6. In 2010, Caroline went over a week without chocolate.

  • 7. No one knows about Caroline's love of chocolate.

Ring ring ring text message. That's the sound of my cell phone getting a text. Imagine not being to ever talk to your friends or boyfriend all day! I could never live without my cell phone because, you wouldn't have any contact with people without being home, if there was an emergency you wouldn't be able to contact anyone, and you would have no social life.

First, I could not have my cell phone taken away from me for a whole week because, you wouldn't have contact with people without being home. For example what if your out with your mom and it’s a Saturday afternoon, someone could be trying to tell you there’s a party tonight or you would have no idea and most likely be sitting at home bored now. Not having a phone could make you me go insane! I always have to talk to my friends and know what's going on. I text a lot of people all day, I stay in contact with them with my cell phone. This is a technology I will always live with.

Next, I feel a cell phone is a technology I cannot live without because, what would you do if there was a emergency and you had no way to contact anyone. Imagine you driving down the road and someone just hits you, what are you going to do if you can't call anyone and you are hurt. If anything bad ever happens to someone a cell phone always comes in handy. Emergencies happen every day that's why a cell phone is an important technology to me.

Last, if cell phones were a technology I lived without then I, myself would have no social life. If a young kids have no phones what would they do all the time? How would they talk to different people and get to know them. If high school kids did not have cell phones most would be not friendly nor nice to others because they really wouldn’t know how to express there selves with out it being through a text message. Myself tells people everything through a text im not the type to say things I really have to tell them to there face, therefore if I didn’t have a phone how would I talk to kids? I need this technology in my life.

In conclusion, technology is important in my life all together I just chose a cell phone because I strongly need one in my life out of all the technologies there is. A cell phone will always help me know whats going on, if I am every in a bad situation it could help me, and also it keeps me social and full of friends and close to my boyfriend. If I lived without my phone for a week I wouldn't know what to do with myself I always need these things to get me through my life. Nobody should live without technology specially a cell phone.
