Russian is considered the most difficult language in the world after Chinese in terms of learning. For us, Russians, this is wild, but for foreigners it is quite close and understandable. And pronunciation, and dialects, and an abundance of diminutive words, synonyms, homonyms, and, finally, grammar - everything is given to most of the foreigners who study the “great and mighty”, with great difficulty. However, if illiteracy is excusable for them, then this fact shames us. However, this phenomenon takes place regardless of the language a person speaks. It is designed to eliminate the pernicious ailment that occurs as a consequence of the unwillingness to learn and master one's native or necessary speech.

history of the holiday

The International Literacy Day, dedicated to the eradication of a person's unwillingness to write and speak without errors, is celebrated annually on September 8th. This holiday was established by UNESCO a little less than half a century ago - in 1966. The reason for this event was the recommendation of the "World Conference of Ministers of Education on the Eradication of Illiteracy". The event was held in Tehran a year earlier, in autumn.

It is known that there are still many illiterate people in the world who cannot properly write or read, despite the obvious progress in all spheres of life, especially in the field of information. Indeed, in addition to advanced Europe and America, there is also Africa, Asia, where there are many peoples who have no idea how important it is to master writing skills, moreover, to be able to correctly apply them in practice.

The statistics confirm the above. Indeed, more than 15% of the world's population is currently illiterate. It is unlikely that you will be surprised to learn that 2/3 of this indicator falls on the share of the female. Almost 40% of illiterate adults live in India, 1/5 of them live in African countries. However, even in highly developed countries there are still people who do not fully master the skills of writing and reading. This is every fifth person or 160 million inhabitants. In the EU member states, 75 million people are illiterate. As far as the children's generation is concerned, more than a hundred million children on the planet do not attend school.

Of course, the situation in the middle of the 20th century was much worse. Thus, UNESCO pursued the most important goal by establishing the International Literacy Day: to unite and intensify the efforts of the world community in the process of the widespread dissemination of literacy and the implementation of educational program.

2002 was a very important year for those who created International Literacy Day and made every effort to prosper. The United Nations General Assembly declared the United Nations Literacy Decade. A year later, she also approved the "UN Action Plan for the Literacy Decade", entrusting UNESCO with the "position" of the coordinator responsible for carrying out specific activities within the framework of this event.

Every year International Literacy Day is celebrated under a specific motto.. So, in 2006 the theme of the holiday sounded like “Literacy ensures sustainable development”, in 2007 - “Literacy and health”, and 4 years ago the slogan of the date was the thesis “The importance of literacy for women”. Last year, 2013, the events of the International Literacy Day were organized under the auspices of the theme "Literacy in the 21st century".

Many symposiums are held on the holiday of September 8, award ceremonies, colloquia and seminars. Prizes are awarded for certain achievements in the field of activity related to the elimination of illiteracy. For example, there is the King Sejong Prize, which is awarded to individuals who have achieved concrete results in the process of spreading literacy around the globe. Another award, the Confucius Prize, finds its heroes in the field of promoting literacy in rural areas, as well as among the female population.

What are UNESCO's plans for further actions in the field of educational program? The main task facing the staff of the peacekeeping organization is the following: by 2015, to achieve a halving of the number of illiterate adults, with particular emphasis on the female half. In other words, it is planned to implement the Education for All strategy.

The concept of literacy

From the school bench we are taught that it is necessary to be able to read and write fluently and correctly without errors. In other words, they teach literacy. After all, many doors in life are open to a literate person. But literacy is not only certain skills of writing, reading, correct speech and skillfully constructed sentences. Literacy is also the engine of progress (meaning personal and spiritual development). A literate person feels himself at his best, smart, competent and feels that he can do a lot. Thanks to literacy, the subject is able to reveal his inherent potential, develop natural inclinations, abilities and talents, and at the same time demonstrate them to the public.

The level of literacy of a person at a certain stage of life serves as a criterion by which one can determine whether further education and development of an individual is likely or not. You might object that "money is everything" these days. Indeed, many incompetent employees are now flooding firms of various labor orientations. And this is very bad - the quality of goods and services produced, the process of contacting the manufacturer and the distributor suffer. provider and consumer. Based on all of the above, we can conclude: literacy is a right and at the same time a duty of each of us, as well as a tool for the cultural and civilized development of society.

Reasons for illiteracy

Why does a child grow up illiterate, despite the fact that his parents regularly study with him, and he goes to school, and a smart head is given by nature? If we turn to specialists, namely psychologists and sociologists, with such a question, we will get the following answers:

  • Lack of love for reading. As a result, there is no habit of picking up an interesting book every day and immersing yourself in a fictional, such an attractive world. Today, few people read, and those who do not ignore this process choose the wrong thing to read.
  • Internet communication is quite an influential factor. Netizens have long developed their own virtual slang. In addition, frequent word abbreviations and spelling errors are unwittingly duplicated in standard written speech.
  • Educational preparation. Unfortunately, in schools and universities today she is lame. This is because the competence of teachers often leaves much to be desired. And many teachers are too lazy to fulfill their duties to the fullest extent.
  • The laziness of the student himself. It is also an important factor in the development of illiteracy in a person. Why read a book when you can play an exciting computer game or kick a ball in the yard with your friends?

Each of us must stand up for literacy - at least for our own and those close to us. Otherwise, the reverse development of the personality will occur, and Darwin's theory will be realized in practice, only in the opposite direction ...

September 8 is traditionally celebrated as Literacy Day around the world. This holiday, which came to us for the first time in 1966 at the initiative of UNESCO, is designed to draw the attention of mankind to the state of literacy in the modern world. There are a number of reasons why literacy is the basis for the education of all people. The priority remains that only a literate society will be able to more effectively solve the pressing problems of its development.

On the eve of this day, the staff of the Central Library. P.I. Fedorov held an annual campaign "Being literate is important!". Students of gymnasium No. 1 answered quiz questions, participated in the Biblio Battle "Russian Language Against", tested their knowledge of Russian spelling and punctuation, recalled sayings and proverbs about reading and literacy.
The ongoing Literacy Day makes us think about what we say and how we say it, because before using this or that word or phrase in our speech, we must know exactly its meaning, and explanatory dictionaries are the best assistants in this. This is especially true for young people who “live” on text messages and social networks.
At the end of the event, the participants were presented with bookmarks for books with the rules of the Russian language.

On September 8, librarians of the City branch No. 1 held an action “Native word, native speech”, dedicated to the International Literacy Day. The event was held on the square in front of the Kriolit Palace of Culture.

Everyone who wished to take part in the quiz "Connoisseurs of the Russian language". Participants answered questions, tested their knowledge of Russian spelling and punctuation. They also answered the tests “Speak and write Russian correctly”, “Verbal coding”, “Say it differently” and “Correct mistakes”, appropriate for their age. Leaflets “Be literate” were handed out.
The book exhibition “My Language is Bright and Great” was arranged for the event, which presented textbooks on the Russian language and culture of speech, word-building dictionaries of the Russian language, explanatory and spelling dictionaries of the Russian language, reference books on the Russian language and practical stylistics, and on it a review was carried out.

Also, an exhibition-bookcrossing was presented to the attention of those present. Books were offered in various genres, including detective stories, historical and women's novels, children's and military literature, etc. Those who wished to actively sort out the books. Some took piles of books, wanting to please their relatives and friends.

For the International Literacy Day, the Novosamarskaya Library arranged a book exhibition "Smart Books", which presented explanatory, spelling and other dictionaries, reference books.
For visitors to the library, a test campaign "Check your literacy" was held. Participants of the test action answered questions, checked their knowledge of spelling and punctuation. An informative library lesson was also held for the students of the Novosamarskaya school.

The guys made a trip to the Land of Words and learned why it is necessary not only to write correctly, but also to speak correctly. Together we learned tongue twisters, participated in a fairy tale quiz and even wrote a short dictation.

Children with pleasure and even delight learned that on this day not only they, schoolchildren, but also their parents and even grandparents can write dictations. The trip ended with a review of the books that were presented at the "Smart Books" exhibition. The most literate received prizes.

On September 10, in the Novosibirsk branch No. 23, an educational library lesson "Russian Language Bureau" was held for young readers on the occasion of the International Literacy Day. The librarian told the children about the history of the Russian language. The children guessed riddles, learned “What secrets dictionaries keep”, tested their knowledge of the Russian language with the help of tests using spelling dictionaries.

An employee of the Chebotarevsky branch No. 31 held an action - the call "Be literate!". It was proposed to pass interactive tests to employees of the Russian Post, the department for working with the rural population, FAP. Visitors to the village shop and sellers were offered a Test Your Knowledge test. All visitors to the rural library that day also took part in the action with interest. The action showed that one should never forget about one's own literacy, it always needs to be improved. You need to read more books, train your memory. In society, literate people are valued. And to be literate is always fashionable and prestigious. All participants of the action agreed with this statement.

International Literacy Day is an international holiday celebrated in the UN system on 8 September. This date was adopted in 1966 by UNESCO following the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers of Education for the Eradication of Illiteracy.

The number of literate people in the world today averages four billion. Despite these advances, more than 860 million adults still remain illiterate. Also, approximately 100 million children and young people are not in school. Many children, adolescents and adults enrolled in various educational programs do not meet the literacy requirements of modern society. There is a need to scale up literacy programs targeting groups of learners in need of special attention.

Literacy is always important
This is not new to us:
Changed one letter
And another word.

Happy literacy, friends,
I want to congratulate you
Wish you commas
Put in the right place.

For there to be no doubt
How to write correctly
And in a good mood
Stay constantly.

It is now fashionable to be literate -
Know your native language clearly
Pick the right words
And I thought that the head is right.

Happy Literacy Day, I congratulate you,
I wish you not to make mistakes in words,
Study and work and read books
Develop your speech systematically!

Today is an important and special day - International Literacy Day. I would like, of course, to express recognition to those who have enriched our knowledge, who educate people, spreading literacy among the population. You transform and enrich our lives. Thank you and Happy Holidays! Everyone else would like to wish to know and respect their native language, write correctly, then there will be no misunderstanding.

Know where to write "o", where "a",
Point where to put
You should always know this
Force everyone!
And there is no need to play around here:
"We write as best we can!"
In life everyone should be
We're just literate.

As they say: grammar is not lecherous, but it does not mind that everyone on Earth uses it. And this is the truest of all possible wishes today. Happy International Literacy Day, may the biggest problem in society be those who confuse "ss" and "ss".

Let's remember today how great and powerful our language is! The sound of literate speech is beautiful, it is pleasant to human hearing. Easy to read beautifully folded text. Happy Literacy Day, Happy Speech Day! For knowledge, craving for science, for the work of a simple school teacher.

Not many are literate,
It's bad, it's a fact.
Very often a person is beautiful,
And he opens his mouth - just a fool!

On International Literacy Day
Learn, please, friends!
Read books, dictionaries,
It's a shame to be illiterate, it's impossible!

Literacy Day celebrates
Today the whole planet.
Worthy of this area
Great reverence.

I want to be smart
And strive for the best.
Before the educated, after all, the door
Any will open.

Exercise .There are words in Russian that are spelled the same, but depending on where we put the stress, they have a different meaning. Put the stress and tell what this word means.

So I write on the board:castle-castle, road-road, spark-spark, devil-devil, village-village, flour-flour, cotton-cotton, stands-stands, vein-vein, abyss-abyss, cowards-cowards, spirits-spirits, etc. e.(phonenyms).

And there are words in which the same word has different meanings:glasses, braid, key, butterfly, pen, bow, etc.( homonyms).

In the language of good words
Very much.
To spoil them is a great evil.
" ROAD ROAD ".
Same words
They write occasionally.
And you can barely change the sound -
Hear something else.

lock is, but islock .
There is
spark and spark .
If the kettle cooks -
You'll figure it out quickly.
Commas put at once
It's hard to learn.
But without them the meaning of phrases
It is possible to lose!
They say: "
You can't execute
pardon
"... Make up your mind.
With punctuation in friends -
Useful in life.

Exercise. Continue the proverbs about literacy.

Choose a book as you choose ... (friend.)
Learning to read and write is always ... (useful.)
Gold is mined from the earth, and knowledge ... (from books.)

The world is illuminated by the sun, and the world ... (knowledge.)
An illiterate person is like a blind man, but a book has his eyes ... (opens.)

And without what it is impossible to become literate? What will help us in overcoming illiteracy? Children's answers.

Exercise. Guess the riddles.

Jackdaws flew into the field
And sat down in the snow...
I will study at school -
I can understand them.
(Letters.)

What kind of water is suitable for the literate?
(Ink.)

On the page of the primer -
Thirty-three heroes.
Wise men-bogatyrs

A big problem is facing the world. This is the fight against illiteracy. In many countries, 860 million adults and more than 100 million children remain illiterate.
So what is literacy?

Literacy - the degree of a person's proficiency in writing and reading in their native language.

Traditionally, the word "literate" means a person who can read and write or only read in any language. People who can only read are also called "semi-literate".

Why is it important to be literate? Children's answers.
And many children and adults attend school, but they cannot be called literate. Since in the modern world, computer literacy has become no less important than writing and reading.
Literacy Day has become one of the main ones in schools and higher institutions of Russia. Quizzes, olympiads, KVN in various subjects are arranged for students, because literacy is not only the ability to write, count and read correctly. This is a whole set of knowledge and skills in various scientific fields that help a person to be successful. . People will be drawn to such a person. And now you have a choice: make every effort to reach this height or remain the one whose words will be laughed at.

I offer youshow your level of literacy.

Let the diploma correct mistakes
And don't stop teaching her
Who learns, he learns a lot,
And it will be easier for us to live in Russia.
Work with punctuation more often
Sit down for a book in the evening, read,

- I carry different things.
- Absurd? Why are they awkward?
- You yourself are absurd, as I see it. I carry different things. Various! Understood? Here I bring chalk ...

- What failed?
- Leave me alone.
- Why, you say: "I failed!" What failed something?

- I'm bringing the chalk!!! Need to listen. I carry chalk. Mishka. He will need to.
