The resort city of Alanya is a place with a rich history, where numerous nationalities lived at different times, which brought some features to the culture of the region, their reflection can be seen on numerous architectural monuments that are interesting local attractions. Tourists vacationing in the Antalya region definitely come to Alanya to get acquainted with its natural and historical beauties, the rich cultural heritage of the ancient city on their own or with an excursion. So, what can you see in Turkish Alanya on your own?

Or "Alanya Kalesi" - this is the most advertised and beautiful sight of Alanya. The citadel has been standing in the city since the thirteenth century. It is located on the small peninsula of Chilarda-Burnu, which goes into the sea for one and a half kilometers. The fortress was built by order of the Seljuk Sultan Ala ad-Din Kay-Kubad the First, which took twelve years. During this time, six and a half kilometers of powerful fortress walls were erected, fortified with one hundred and forty towers, the main castle on the top of the mountain, the Red Tower, the Akshebe Sultan Mosque, the Mosque of Suleiman the Magnificent, the ship dock.

Castle "Ich Kale"- a place where most of the fortifications are concentrated, including the mint, the Sultan's winter residence, the arsenal room, and water tanks. The castle is completely impregnable in appearance, it was difficult to get close to it unnoticed from the sea, as rocky cliffs went into the water, and Seljuk guards were on duty day and night at numerous loopholes. In the last few decades, during excavations carried out on the territory of the castle, archaeologists have found fragments of the ruins of baths, shopping arcades, and a medieval mosque. And the oldest building found here was the ancient Byzantine temple "Agia Konstantinos", it is already more than one and a half thousand years old. To get to the Ich Kale castle on the territory of the Alanya fortress, you need to buy a separate entrance ticket.

Tower "Kyzyl Kule" or the "Red Tower" - a reference example of the military architecture of the Middle Ages, in excellent condition, where tourists have the opportunity to view the original masonry of the thirteenth century. The tower was built by order of the same Seljuk sultan who built the fortress of Alanya, and the project was made by a Syrian architect. The tower was built of red brick, its height is thirty-three meters, its diameter is twenty-nine meters, in order to climb to the top of the tower, tourists will have to climb ninety steps. "Kyzyl Kule" took on the task of defending the port and docks of Alanya. Inside the tower was a huge well-reservoir with water. If you climb to the very top, you can walk along the jagged edge of the tower walls, admiring the all-round view of the city, the sea, and the mountains. Inside the Red Tower, on the first floor, there is now the "Ethnographic Museum", presenting historical exhibits related to the city of Alanya and its heraldry. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from eight in the morning to five in the evening, with a lunch break from twelve to half past one. The ticket price is five lire.

- This is a "dry" dock, built by order of Sultan Ala ad-Din in 1228, fifty-six meters long and forty-four meters wide. The shipyard looks like five lancet arches-chambers, going deep into the depths of forty-two meters. Near the shipyard there is an old mosque and a guardhouse. This seaside structure was erected during a turbulent time of Turkey's feud with other Mediterranean neighbors. The place for the shipyard was chosen inconspicuous, at the foot of the hill, not visible to the fleet of enemies from the sea. Here there was a repair of old ships and the construction of new ones. To visit this attraction of Alanya, you must purchase a separate ticket.

The most interesting buildings of the Seljuks for tourists are paid, but if you pay for the entrance to each of them, it turns out to be quite expensive, so it would be more economical to purchase a complex ticket, for example, to Kyzyl Kul and to the Shipyard - for two dollars, or " Kyzyl Kule" with "Shipyard" and "Damlatash Cave" for three dollars.

The Alanya fortress can be reached from the city center by bus number 4, the fare is two Turkish lira. The fortress is open from April to October from eight in the morning to seven in the evening; from November to March - from eight in the morning to half past five in the evening.

All local exhibits were brought from the excavations of ancient Turkish cities. Of course, the most interesting find of the museum is the statue of Hercules made of bronze, which was dug up near the settlement of Asartepe, as well as many urns for burial, carpets, clothes, household items, and a weapons collection. The price of a ticket to the museum is four lira. The museum is open from April to October from nine in the morning until half past seven in the evening, on all days except Monday - a day off; from November to March - from eight in the morning to five in the evening.

- one of the natural attractions of the city of Alanya, popular among tourists. This place of extreme beauty, is famous for its healing properties and unique microclimate, which helps to alleviate the condition of people suffering from respiratory diseases. "Damlatash" in translation means - "Stone drop". The cave itself is not very large, but the stalactites and stalagmites decorating it make an unforgettable impression, and they formed fifteen thousand years ago. Its length is forty-five meters, the width of the main hall is fourteen meters and its height is fifteen meters. Throughout the year, the cave maintains the same temperature - plus twenty-two degrees Celsius and air humidity of ninety-eight percent, it is thanks to these indicators that ideal conditions are created for curing respiratory diseases. A scientific medical experiment was carried out inside the Damlatash cave: several people diagnosed with asthma spent some time here, as a result, most of the participants were completely cured, others experienced a significant reduction in symptoms. In order for tourists to move comfortably inside the cave, there are stairs. If you want to visit the cave not only for aesthetic purposes, but also for the purpose of recovery, then you need to come here by six in the morning. The course of treatment for asthma in the Damlatash cave lasts almost three weeks, and it is necessary to spend four hours here every day. In order to get inside you need to purchase a ticket for six lira. Opening hours of Damlatash cave - from ten in the morning to six in the evening. Those who suffer from heart disease should not visit this cave.

- you can get into it only by boat from the water. The sight when tourists get inside is amazing to the core: you are met by the milky-blue glow of the walls of the cave, cast by light passing through the water column. It is phosphorus, which makes up the lion's share of the composition of the rock that formed the cave, that gives such a flicker. This is really very impressive!

- occupies the southeastern tip of the Chilarda-Burnu peninsula. You can get inside the cave on a small boat, or swim on your own. You will find yourself in an eight-meter grotto, which in ancient times was found by pirates, of whom there were plenty in these waters, they kept the stolen wealth there, as well as kidnapped slaves, because of this the cave is often called the "Maid's Cave". According to local legend, the cave used to have a secret passage to the territory of the fortress, and through it the riches robbed by pirates fell into the ancient city, but then the tunnel collapsed and it is not possible to find its traces. Now the cave is almost completely submerged, but divers love to visit it.

- one of the most visited tourist attractions in the resort town of Alanya. This natural formation is already a million years old, but the cave was found only at the end of the last century. It has a great depth - more than three hundred and sixty meters. Locals come to these beautiful places for a picnic, and tourists come to see the cave on their own or with a group tour. You can get to the territory near the Dim Chay River, where the cave is located, only by buying a ticket, its price is thirteen and a half Turkish liras. The Dim Cave ticket office is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. It was here that the remains of ancient people were discovered, which made it famous, and besides, the cave is incredibly beautiful inside, thanks to the numerous absolutely fantastic stalactites and stalagmites.

- the most beautiful corner of this Turkish resort and the main place of accumulation of all tourists. There are many cafes, shops, restaurants, everything is beautiful and well-groomed: neat sidewalks, paved with tiles, trimmed trees, numerous date palms, graceful flower lawns, colorful shrubs, interesting sculptures, a small waterfall. It is unusual that in tribute to the fact that the city of Alanya was once a haven for pirates of the Mediterranean, now a huge pirate fleet is moored here, whose colorful ships tourists tirelessly examine and photograph while walking along the embankment. Next to the port, where modern pleasure ferries, boats, snow-white yachts stop, where you can take an unforgettable walk along the sea.

- located in the "mountainous" quarter of Alanya "Tepe Mahalechi", where the village of Hydir Ilyas used to be. They say that in ancient times a small settlement was often attacked by robbers who lived in a neighboring valley, and then the locals prayed to George the Victorious to become their heavenly protector. He heard their requests and began to protect the settlement from enemy attacks, causing stones to fall on their heads. Here the miraculous appearance of St. George on a white horse took place, and here, according to local legends, he defeated the dragon by killing him with a spear, since then a healing water source has been hammered out of the ground. That is why an Orthodox church was built here, despite the fact that it is rather modest and inconspicuous from the outside, there are many ancient icons inside.

Or the Ala-ad-Din Mosque, or the Fortress Mosque - it was erected by decree of the Seljuk Sultan Alu-ad-Din Kay-Kubad the First in 1231. The original building of the mosque collapsed over time and instead, under Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the sixteenth century, the new Suleymaniye Mosque was erected - an ideal example of Turkish national architecture. A stone mosque of a square shape, with a high minaret and a green dome. Inside it is no less beautiful: with a large prayer hall, floors covered with carpets, walls painted with quotations from the Koran, and windows, doors and gates are decorated with filigree wood carvings. The Suleymaniye Mosque is active, it is a whole complex, which includes: several schools, a minaret, buildings for the military, a palace.

- is located in a small middle-class house on Azaklar Street in the Shchekerkhane district. The museum was formed after the most famous leader of Turkey, Ataturk, spent several days here. Cat Park in Alanya- Cats in Turkey are very fond of and they try to take care of even homeless animals. The local municipality has created a special program aimed at helping homeless animals - cats and dogs. Now in Alanya there are two “Cat Parks”, where for these fluffy animals that have no owners all the conditions for a comfortable stay have been created: twenty-five wooden houses, many feeders, trays, scratching posts, toys. Cats live here, as well as several dogs that were found in Alanya and its environs, they are looked after by the working staff - they feed them, clean up after them. In addition to Cat Parks, Alanya has twenty food outlets for stray cats and thirty for stray dogs. Anyone can visit the "Cat Park" to admire and play with the animals, and, perhaps, help the shelter by buying dry food for their food. The territory of the park is green, blooming, well-groomed, it is pleasant to walk here, observing the beauty of Turkish nature. It is especially great to come here with children, who, seeing how people take care of our younger brothers, grow up more sensitive, kind and sympathetic.

Access points are equipped with many cafes and restaurants, as well as several municipal beaches, including Cleopatra.

Alanya beaches

Alanya beaches considered one of the best in Turkey. The water is clean and transparent, the infrastructure is well developed, the order is carefully monitored. The coast is covered with white sand with a yellowish tint, in some places there are smooth pebbles and tiny pebbles. Almost on the entire coast there are changing rooms, rental of umbrellas and sun loungers, beach bars and cafes, but the prices for food and drinks are 1.5-2 times higher than in stores. Toilets are paid - 2-4 TRY.

For ecological cleanliness and a high level of service, local beaches are periodically awarded the Blue Flag.

The entire coast of the resort is divided into two parts by a rocky cape. Separate sections of coastal zones belong to hotels, but there are also municipal beaches - two in the eastern part of the city and two in the western. Entrance is free, but you will have to pay for using beach equipment - 5-7.50 TRY for one umbrella or deck chair. It is not necessary to rent sunbeds - you can sit on a towel.

The most beautiful and popular beach - "Cleopatra" - stretches for 2 km from the western outskirts of the city. The coverage here is sandy and pebbly, the water remains transparent even with strong waves that rise quite often. The entrance to the sea is sharp, the depth is gaining quickly, so parents with small children are better off choosing another beach to relax. There is a suitable one to the east of the rocky cape - "Keykubat". It is quite shallow, the sea is calm and calm. On the western side, the Damlatash beach adjoins the rock, the main attraction of which is the cave of the same name. Otherwise, it practically does not differ from Cleopatra - wide, with all amenities, sports equipment rentals and playgrounds. On the eastern outskirts there is another free municipal beach - Portakal. The surface is sand and pebble, there are bars, cafes, sun loungers for rent and water attractions.

Alanya Hotels

Alanya is one of the most budget resorts in Turkey. The cost of living depends on the proximity to the sea, a set of options and "stardom". The latter does not always correspond to the state of affairs in hotel, it is worth looking for real reviews. In addition, you need to take into account the format of the rest. Young people will like club hotels, families with children - 4-5 * hotels with animation and necessary amenities.

On the first line, it’s hard to find accommodation cheaper than 100-120 TRY per day. However, there are inexpensive apartments within a 7-10 minute walk - 60-80 TRY per room for 2-4 people. Most of the room stock is represented by apartments and hotels. The former will interest economical tourists, prices start from 40 TRY per day. A room in a 3 * hotel will cost 100-330 TRY per night, in the "four" - 250-675 TRY. There are few "fives" in the city, the cost of a double room ranges from 420 to 785 TRY per day. The price includes transfer from the airport and back.

shopping

The resort is full of shops, boutiques and malls. The main shopping street is Ataturk Boulevard. Another place that attracts shopaholics is the Eastern Bazaar. The assortment includes clothes, shoes, children's things, accessories and souvenirs. In small shops and in the market it is customary to bargain, it is quite possible to drop the price by 2-3 times. Although things here are already cheaper than in Russia. In large boutiques and shopping centers, prices are fixed, but the risk of running into a low-quality Chinese fake is lower. The resort has a lot of inexpensive and solid Turkish goods from jeans, leather and knitwear. Jewelry is also in demand, but you should not rush and buy gold cheaply - the quality leaves much to be desired. There are practically no original items of European brands on the shelves, but there are pretty good replicas.

As a keepsake, magnets and T-shirts with national symbols, ceramics, silk scarves, carpets and hookahs - souvenir and real - are usually taken away from Alanya. You should also pay attention to local coffees, teas, spices and sweets. Experienced tourists recommend going for the national flavor away from the resort regions - in the outback you can find authentic and inexpensive handmade gizmos.

Cuisine and restaurants

The restaurant map of Alanya is diverse - European, Japanese, Italian and even Latin American cuisine. But Mediterranean and national dishes are in special demand among tourists. The cafes on the embankment perfectly cook fish and seafood. In Turkish restaurants, you should try cream soups made from mushrooms, vegetables, shrimp and other ingredients, as well as various kebabs, meze snacks based on tender yogurt, stuffed mussels and sweets - Turkish delight, baklava and helva. Fans of an invigorating drink will love Turkish coffee.

Thrifty tourists should pay attention to apartments with a kitchen and buy groceries at the market. Another option is to move away from the streets popular among vacationers and find canteens and cafes for locals - the average check will be an order of magnitude lower.

The resort has the usual McDonald's and Burger King, but in Turkey it is better to give preference to local fast food - pide, shawarma and other "buns" stuffed with beef, chicken and vegetables. The cost of such a snack is 8-10 TRY per person. Breakfast in an inexpensive cafe will cost 40-50 TRY for two, lunch in a middle-class establishment - from 70 TRY. The average bill for a dinner with drinks for two people in an expensive restaurant can reach up to 200 TRY.
