On March 10, at the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society, Dmitry Peskov spoke not as a press secretary of the President of Russia, but as chairman of the Media Council of the Russian Geographical Society. And he wasn't talking about politics. Although the topic was no less important - the knowledge of the Russians of their homeland. Together with the First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society Nikolai Kasimov and the President of the Interregional Association of Teachers of Geography Alexander Lobzhanidze, Dmitry Peskov spoke about the results of the first All-Russian geographical dictation. On November 1, 2015, at the initiative of Vladimir Putin, this action took place in all 85 subjects of the Federation. 71,929 people took part in it.

191 people wrote the dictation excellently. - said Dmitry Peskov. - Most of the people who received 100 points are in Moscow - 34 people. The rest of the excellent students from the Republic of Sakha-Yakutia and the Tyumen region.

Speaking in general, participants from the Urals and Northwestern federal districts coped best with the tasks.

Approximately every second person completed the tasks. Moreover, most of the mistakes were in questions that required the practical application of geographical knowledge.

Experts have noticed that the younger generation knows geography worse than those who studied it before 2000. To remedy the situation, three steps are needed: increasing the number of hours for geography in school, popularizing this science through books and school trips, and attracting young geographers to teach.

There is a fourth step, which is already being implemented. In order to raise the level of knowledge, the Russian Geographical Society decided to conduct a geographical dictation every year, and experts even put forward the idea of creating a single textbook.

It is more difficult to create a unified view of history, but it is possible to create a unified view of geography, - Nikolai Kasimov noted.

The next All-Russian geographical dictation will be held in autumn 2016 and Dmitry Peskov wished success to its future participants:

Everyone who decides to test their knowledge is already a winner, - says the Chairman of the Media Council of the Russian Geographical Society. - This means that a person is interested in the geography of his country and wants to learn something new.

BY THE WAY

Dmitry Peskov on the results of the All-Russian geographical dictation.

Dmitry Peskov also spoke about the launch of 16 regional grant projects of the Russian Geographical Society. Among them is the Komsomolskaya Pravda expedition to the Great Kureysky waterfall. Our group will have to measure this miracle of nature and confirm its status as the largest waterfall in Russia. And as part of this campaign, it is planned to install a memorial sign for Russian researchers in the polar regions of the Yenisei.

Previous KP expeditions in the framework of cooperation with the Russian Geographical Society ended with the creation of several films and books. By the way, the most recent of them is “Vitim. A Geographical Book about the Legendary Ugryum River” and “Charskaya Hollow - a Unique Geographical Region of Russia” have already arrived in specialized stores of Komsomolskaya Pravda.

About dictation

On November 1, 2015, for the first time in the Russian Federation, a large-scale educational campaign was held aimed at assessing the level of geographical literacy of the population - the first All-Russian geographical dictation. The initiator of its holding was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Society Vladimir Putin, and the organizer was the Russian Geographical Society.

The dictation was held in all regions of our country, at 210 specially prepared venues. The leaders in the number of organized venues were the Central, Ural and Volga federal districts, and among the regions- Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (32), Tver Region (18) and Moscow (15). In terms of the number of participants in the dictation, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (7026 people), Moscow (3343 people), Tverskaya (1432 people) and Voronezh (1427 people) regions were in the lead. In a number of regions, attendance exceeded a thousand people.

How many people have written?

Everyone could take part in the dictation, regardless of age, education and field of activity. To write a dictation"offline" came to regional venues 44,365 people. Of these, 43,567 submitted their work for review. Another 27,564 people took the test online on the website of the Russian Geographical Society. Thus, the total number of participants in the dictation is about 72 thousand people.

Among them are people with a wide variety of education - from general primary to postgraduate with a degree. According to preliminary data, the largest group of participants were those with higher education, and the smallest were those with primary general education. Thus, the average level of education of the dictation participants turned out to be higher than the average for Russia.

Tasks

The dictation included 25 test tasks, which were divided into three blocks. The first consisted of assignments for knowledge of geographical concepts and terms; the second was aimed at testing knowledge about the location of geographical objects on the map; the third - on the knowledge of geographical descriptions.

One of the main principles of the action was anonymity. On the forms of tasks and answers it was possible not to indicate your name. Participants were asked to write only their age, occupation, attitude to geography (for example, student or teacher of a specialized university), and some other information. This information is necessary in order to assess and analyze the level of geographical knowledge of the inhabitants of our country.

Excellent students, good students, losers?

According to the organizers, it is too early to draw final conclusions based on the results of checking numerous works - experts are still engaged in analytics and summarize the results.

According to preliminary statistics, there are three main categories among the participants in the dictation: schoolchildren, students and working citizens - about 30% of them each. Other categories of the population accounted for less than 10%. It is very pleasant that the majority of participants in the dictation are young people who seek to test their knowledge, and in the future to improve their level.

It is interesting that students in grades 5–9 answered the questions in a completely different way than students in grades 10–11, while the answers of high school students differed little from the answers of adults. With regard to gender indicators of statistics, on average, the response score of men is two points higher than that of women.

The highest score that could be obtained for the dictation was 100 points, the lowest - 0. Unfortunately, 100-point results were not recorded in all regions, and the total number of works that deserved the highest score does not exceed 1%.

According to preliminary data, the average score for dictation in Russia is only 55 points, in school terminology.– it's a trio. It is even sadder that 48% of the participants of the action wrote a dictation below the average level, that is, they received a three with a minus or a two. And this is against the background of the fact that a significant part of the participants designated geography as their professional field of activity or classified themselves as active tourists.

The results of the dictation will be taken into account by the Russian Geographical Society when preparing a new concept of geographical education, which is being developed by the Russian Geographical Society together with the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

How to know your result?

To find out their personal result, the participants of the dictation who performed it "offline", can by a unique identification number obtained on the sites.

Olga, student of a technical university, Moscow

“Many tasks seemed difficult to me. Because of the questions, as they say, “for knowledge”, I was not very upset - well, I don’t know the name of the city located in the Pacific Ocean basin, in which the Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger aircraft is produced! But the stupor on the question about the scale of the map unsettled me ( Ed.: We are talking about this question: "On a map with a scale of 1:10,000, the distance between points is 10 cm. What distance (in kilometers) on the ground does this correspond to?". Correct answer: 1 kilometer. Answers received: 100, 1000, 100,000 km). Really ashamed to stumble on this! Valery Viktorovich, builder, pensioner

– I draw your attention to an important social aspect related to the distribution of printed questions to the participants of the dictation. It was this circumstance that allowed me, and possibly many other visually or hearing impaired people, to become participants in a face-to-face dictation.

I am 76 years old. Disabled person of the 2nd group. In 2004, he suffered an ischemic stroke. Even with a hearing aid, it is sometimes very difficult to make out the words of a lecturer in the audience, which is why I do not participate in mass events. Before I got acquainted with the Regulations on face-to-face dictation, I considered only testing via the Internet a possible form of participation for myself. I received the news of the printed questions with delight. THANKS! This allowed me to take part in the dictation in person.

Andrey, schoolboy (11th grade), Moscow region

- I came to the dictation simply for the company of friends, but I didn’t regret it. I was hooked by a question about a climber with a watch, I couldn’t answer it. Came home, figured it out, and it was interesting ( Ed.: We are talking about this question: "What is the date and time on the clock of a tourist climbing to the top of Elbrus, when on the clock of his friend, resting on the shores of Peter the Great Bay, 5 o'clock in the morning on May 1?" " Live" dictationt

On November 1, the inhabitants of Russia took part in the All-Russian geographical dictation. To conduct a unique educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society, 220 sites were organized and three options for tasks were prepared, each of which consisted of 25 questions.

The main purpose of the action is to check how well the inhabitants of our country know their homeland. Not their region in which they live, but Russia as a whole. Therefore, the specialists compiled three different versions of questions for three groups of districts: residents of the Siberian and Ural federal districts answered the questions of the 1st option; Option 2 was prepared for the Far Eastern Federal District; and option 3 - for the rest of Russia's districts.

Each version of the task included questions that were not related to the place of residence of the participants in the dictation.

Another reason for preparing different versions of tasks was to exclude the possibility of cheating during the dictation. Since the dictation started across the country at 12:00 local time, residents of those regions that answered the questions first (due to the time difference) could post the correct answers on the Internet. Having prepared three variants of questions, the organizers of the dictation were able to keep the intrigue for all the inhabitants of Russia.

Today we bring to your attention not only the questions of the All-Russian geographical dictation, but also the correct answers to them!

We remind you that you can find out your result on December 10, 2015 on the website using the unique identification number that you received during the assignments. The works of Russians will be checked only by professional geographers.

Online testing

For those who for some reason could not take part in the dictation at the RGS venues, online testing was conducted on the portal. Those who decided to try their hand online were less fortunate than those who took part in the “live” dictation: the big educational campaign that we had been preparing for so long, so enthusiastically and seriously, acquired a different scenario. We, who are well aware that in recent years geography has been given in schools, delicately speaking, not the closest attention, and could not think that it is so in demand, and the number of people who want to evaluate their geographical literacy will many times exceed our expectations!

Unfortunately, the RGS server could not withstand such a load (which, in fairness, we note, happens with much larger, technically equipped organizations). On the one hand, it is, of course, very sad. But on the other...

Yes, all of us - both the organizers and, most importantly, the participants - are offended that the first geographical dictation in the history of the country did not go as planned. However, the fact that so many people responded to the "geographic call" that there is a genuine interest in geography in society did not let us give up. And he clearly showed that everything we do is not in vain.

In the end, the problem was solved, and those who were not indifferent to geography were able to write a dictation. In total, more than 27 thousand people took part in it.

Thanks to everyone who treated the current situation with understanding and patience and did not shy away from temporary difficulties!

Questions for the online test were combined from those tasks that were distributed to visitors to offline sites. We bring to your attention questions and answers online testing on.
