World
According to the plot of the manga, 100 years before the start of its events, humanity was almost completely destroyed by an unknown humanoid race of huge creatures called "titans". People were forced to take shelter behind three high walls, which were given the names of Sina. (jap. シーナ B:on, inner wall), Rose (jap. ローゼ Ro:ze, middle wall) and Maria (jap. マリア Maria, outer wall). So people lived for many years, thinking that they were completely safe. Behind each wall, "districts" were built from the outside - towns that served as the outer line of defense and were also surrounded by walls.
"Titans" are carnivorous giants resembling people, but differing in huge growth - from three to fifteen meters, and creatures of even more monstrous sizes appear in the manga. Titans don't wear any clothes and have various features, such as lack of skin, a huge torso, or sawtooth teeth. They devour people, although they do not need food; move in a manner that is both comical and frightening. Manga author Hajime Isayama, answering the question why he chose giants to play the role of monsters opposing people, answered: "Giants are disgusting, that's why." The image of the destructive titans could be influenced not so much by the theme of huge kaiju monsters, beloved by Japanese cinema, like Godzilla or Ghidorah, but by the paintings of the Spanish artist Francisco Goya.
In the manga, several military units appear, designed to protect human settlements from the titans. Soldiers are trained to fight and kill titans with a "space maneuvering device" (jap. 立体機動装置 rittai kido:so:ti, lit. "device for mobile maneuvering in three-dimensional space"), abbreviated UPM. It allows you to move around in 3D space by clinging to objects and ledges, and gives you the ability to reach the only weak point of the Titans - the base of the neck. The soldiers of the garrison guard the walls, but the only people who go beyond them are the fighters of the reconnaissance detachment. There is also the Royal Guard, which acts as a police force and guards the King.
Plot
At the center of the events of Attack on Titan are three heroes: the son of a doctor Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and their childhood friend Armin Arlert. At the beginning of the manga, the Titans, led by the never-before-seen sentiences "Colossal Titan" and "Armored Titan", invade their home district of Shinganshina, breaking through a gate in the outer wall. Eren and Mikasa's mother dies, and they, along with Armin, are forced to seek shelter behind the inner walls. At the same time, Eren's father, Grisha Yeager, before leaving, leaves his son a mysterious key to the basement in the city captured by the titans. Eren vows revenge on the Titans, and the three join the army.
The action resumes five years later, when the grown-up heroes graduate from a military school. The guys, along with their classroom, are in the Trost district - a fortified southern settlement near the second wall. Trost, like Shinganshina, is attacked by the Titans; the army armed with the UPM tries to resist them, but is defeated, and some of the soldiers, including Eren, are eaten by the titans. After some time, a new intelligent titan comes to the aid of people, hostile to his relatives - later the heroes recognize him as Eren, who discovered in himself the ability to temporarily turn into a titan. The command uses an unexpected titan ally to recapture Trost and repair the hole in the gate. Eren is judged as a potential danger to humanity, but he is taken under the wing of a reconnaissance squad led by Erwin Smith and Captain Levi, and Eren's friends also join this squad.
The reconnaissance detachment in a new composition goes beyond the walls, on an expedition to the destroyed Shinganshina, but on the way it is attacked by another, previously unseen intelligent "female titan" - this creature not only surpasses other titans in speed and strength, but is able to control them with the help of scream. The heroes discover that the sentient titan is a werewolf, like Eren, and make an unsuccessful attempt to capture the enemy; the female demonstrates military training and - in human form - the ability to use the UPM. Although the expedition fails, upon returning beyond the walls, the heroes are able to figure out the true identity of the female titan - it is Annie Leonhart, a cadet from the same training class as themselves. The reconnaissance team sets up a trap for Annie in Stohess County near the inner wall - in the unfolding battle of the titans, Eren defeats Annie. The heroes discover that there are also sleeping titans inside the walls protecting the cities.
Soon the reconnaissance squad is forced to act to repel a new threat - the appearance of titans between the inner walls of Rose and Sin, which may indicate a breakthrough of the second wall somewhere outside Trost. The heroes encounter a new sentient titan - the "ape titan", or "beast-like" - and discover three more hidden werewolves in their own ranks. If Bertolt and Reiner - the "colossal" and "armored" titans already familiar from the story - are inside the walls with some kind of secret mission, the third werewolf titan Ymir is out of their plans and reluctantly helps them kidnap Eren. The reconnaissance squad and the military police, through huge losses, manage to recapture Eren from the titans, while the guy discovers the ability to control the titans using the scream coordinate - just like Annie did earlier.
Soon there is a new kidnapping - this time, Eren and another fighter, the girl Krista Lenz, are captured by people from the so-called Central Military Police Department, orders to which are given only by members of the royal family. By this time, the reconnaissance team realizes that the royal government knows a lot about the titans and werewolves, and enters into a confrontation with it, even planning and carrying out a coup d'état along with other military personnel. As it turns out, Christa is Historia Reiss, the heiress of the real Reiss royal dynasty, while the reigning king is only a puppet. Reiss were also werewolves, passing from one to another the power of the "first king" - the ability to supernaturally control not only titans, but also people. Eren's father, Grisha Yeager, already being a werewolf, managed to seize the gift of the "first king" (he ate Frieda Reiss in the guise of a titan, Historia's half-sister), and then pass it on to his son - as a result, Eren has the power of two titans - the power of the "Attacking Titan" and Titan King. Historia refuses to obey her own father Rod and inherit the gift, which would mean for her to turn into a titan and eat Eren alive - Rod turns into a huge, 120-meter titan himself, but the reconnaissance team manages to cope with him. Historia is crowned as the new rightful queen.
Having settled the problems inside the walls, the reconnaissance team sets out on a new expedition to the outer wall - to find and destroy the werewolf titans, and also to get to the basement in Shinganshin, where the heroes believe the clues to the mysteries are located. The detachment gets to the city, but falls into a trap - a whole army of titans and a "monkey", "colossal" and "armored" titans, they are werewolves Zeke, Bertolt and Reiner, lie in wait for them. In a long battle, almost the entire reconnaissance unit dies, although it leaves the battlefield behind. With the option to turn one of their comrades into a werewolf, the heroes are forced to choose between the severely wounded Erwin and Armin, and prefer the latter, allowing Commander Erwin to die and Armin to inherit the power of Bertolt's "colossal titan". They open the basement door and find Grisha Yeager's diaries and a photograph inside - a piece of technology that does not exist in the world known to the heroes inside the walls.
Although the heroes previously believed that humanity beyond the walls was destroyed by the titans, in fact, there are other cities and countries in the outside world from where Eren's father came from. The walls are located on the isolated island of Paradise, while the continent on the other side of the strait is ruled by the state of Marley. Once the Marley people - "ordinary" people - were enslaved by the Eldians, the descendants of Queen Ymir: only the Eldians can turn into titans, and unique gifts of werewolves are transmitted among them. A hundred years before the events of the manga, the Marleys overthrew the Eldians and drove their enemies into the ghetto; the Eldian kings retained their power only on the island within the three rings of walls. Grisha Yeager was a member of the Eldian underground movement, and Zeke was his son from his first marriage. When the movement was discovered, Grisha and his comrades were exiled to the island and turned into mindless titans, but another member of the underground, Eren Krueger, the bearer of the "attacking titan" power, helped Grisha escape and transferred this power to him, later inherited by Eren. The heroes regain control of the outer wall of Marius and prepare for the inevitable war with the Marleys.
The action moves forward four years and shows Marley itself: the Marley army, in whose ranks Zeke, Reiner and the young Eldian soldiers Gaby and Falco fight, continues to use the titans in the war with other powers, but the emergence of new technologies - airships, ironclads and armored trains - makes Marley's advantage less and less significant. Willy Tibur, the backstage ruler of Marley and an ethnic Eldian, convenes a peace conference to turn the world against Paradise Island, but the conference turns into chaos with the appearance of Eren and the fighters of the reconnaissance squad. Having seized the power of another werewolf - the "titan hammer", the reconnaissance team leaves Marley on an airship, along with Zeke, who has spread to their side. Together with them, Gabi and Falco, who remained faithful to Marley, also get to the island. In previous years, Paradise was able to bridge the gap caused by a hundred years of isolation thanks to the help of Marley defectors and cooperation with Hizuru, another island nation reminiscent of Japan. Zeke, in the hands of his recent enemies, weaves a complex plot in which many nationalist military men and even Eren take his side; while the announcement of Queen Historia's pregnancy thwarts the military government's earlier plans, Zeke manages to escape captivity.

Criticism
Anime
In 2013, the first volumes of the manga were filmed as a 25-episode anime series produced by Wit Studio and Production I.G. The release of the second season took place on April 1, 2017, and consisted of 12 episodes describing events from volumes 9-12 of the manga. The release of the third season took place on July 23, 2018. Currently airing one episode per week for the third season of the anime, it will consist of 24 episodes and is expected to cover events from volumes 13-22 of the manga.
The continuation of season 3 (2nd arc) will be released in April 2019.
Feature Film
Based on the manga and anime series, a feature film of the same name was made. In December 2012, it was reported that Tetsuya Nakashima had left his position as director of the film. According to the film 's distributor Toho Company , this was due to significant creative differences on script and other issues . However, in 2015, the first part of the film - "Attack on Titan: Cruel World" - nevertheless came out on world screens. The second part was released on October 1, 2015, immediately after the release of the first part. Also in 2015, the prequel films were released. "Attack on Titan: Signal to counterattack" ("Shingeki no kyojin Attack on Titan: Hangeki no noroshi"). Mini-drama of three 35-minute episodes. They tell about the everyday life and training of the soldiers of the reconnaissance corps. Directed by Shinji Higuchi and written by Yuusuke Watanabe.
Games
Four "visual novel" games were developed by Nitroplus staff along with Production I.G. . Nitroplus emphasized that the company itself did not take part in the development of games, individual employees worked. The games were bundled with anime Blu-ray discs. The plot was based on the side stories of Attack on Titan.
Mobage is developing a social game for iOS and Android smartphones called Shingeki no Kyojin ~Jiyū e no Hōkō~. The player controls a character expelled from the protection of the Rose Wall. The player must build and fortify the city outside the wall and expand it by creating various items, including those obtained from the titans and other players.
The game Attack on Titan for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita video game consoles, published by Koei Tecmo and developed by Omega Force, was announced at Gamescom in 2015 and released in February 2016 in Japan. The release of the game version in other countries was later announced, as well as the release of versions for personal computers and the Xbox One console.
There is also an unofficial game called "Attack on Titan: Tribute game", in which the player is given the opportunity to fight the titans by controlling characters from anime and manga or created in the editor. It has the ability to play online or alone, in various modes, whether it's clearing the map or killing the boss titan for a while.

"was a rock musician, she would collect stadiums and make girls go crazy and tear their clothes off - this anime is so cool. Naturally, Attack" would not have had any popularity and the title of "modern classics" if its characters had not were 50% interesting and 50% cool.
There is still plenty of time left (the creators of the premiere in the spring of 2017, but who knows), so it remains only to endlessly review the series and compile collections like these. Jean receives an honorable 1st place in the nomination " Mister-say-what-think-and-don't-worry-about-it". In the past inveterate egoist, who only cared about his own safety, as the series progresses, cool evolved into a respected member of society, ready to stand up in defense of his friends. The story of Marco, who died in the battle for Trost, taught Jean a lot: at that fateful moment, he realized that he had no right to allow anyone else to die.
Yes, Armin is not the fastest, not the strongest, not the most daring, and he doesn’t look much like a bullet, but his mental skills deserve honors in TOP. Possessing an excellent analytical mindset, Armin knows how to develop strategies and tactics that save dozens of human and, especially, friendly lives. In fact, he is so smart that the commander himself completely trusts his intuition. Motsk The mind of Armin does not lose in strength and lethality even to sophisticated weapons. In Season 2, we will be shown clearly how much harm can be done by talking alone.
Crazy, passionate and hot as can be Eren is not afraid of almost anything. As soon as he said his word, to convince him - mission impossible. He fully confident in your decisions, believes in intuition (for good reason) and, as a bonus, transforms into a 15-meter Titan hippopotamus. Annoying at first with his weakness and whining, the boy passed through the sea of \u200b\u200bgame and became an ideal hero for such a dark and powerful anime as "Attack on Titan".
This outwardly innocent creature with the look of a cat from Shrek is not at all what it seems. Her combat skills are beyond our understanding.. Mikasa confidently almost- leads the race in terms of the number of Titans killed. Cold, prudent, with all hands and other parts of the body seeks to protect those who are dear to her. The image of Mikasa is so strong that everyone - from average anime fans to staunch feminists - will be delighted with her. "And you're from Maybelline," of course.
It would be strange to give the first place to NOT the strongest soldier of the "Attack". He seems to absorb Armin's analytical abilities and Mikasa's combat bloodthirstiness and gives out an excellent mix from them, which allows destroy titans like seeds. Levi will never doubt whether to take out the blade, and his status in society is described at least by the fact that the impenetrable Eren listens to Ackerman's advice. Levy is incredibly cool and clearly bypasses you in this, humble yourself. Only if you're not Chuck Norris.
Let me tell you a little about the main characters.
ErenYeager
Eren Yeager (エレン・イェーガ) is the protagonist of the story. Eren seeks to destroy the Titans and explore the world around him. His philosophy is "Fighting is life, losing is death." At the age of 9, he saved Mikasa, a girl whose family was killed by slave traders. He only ranked fifth among the graduate cadets of his group, as he does not have any special talents in the field of martial skills, but he compensates for this with great diligence and determination.
Later, he discovers the ability to turn into a 15-meter titan. Eren believes that this ability may be the result of injections that his father injected him with. At first, the main character could not fully control the summoned titan, but after lengthy training he received a wide range of abilities and absolute control. ...
MikasaAckerman
Mikasa Ackerman (ミカサ・アッカーマン) is a child adopted by the Yeager family after the death of their parents, unofficially Eren's half-sister, and the main female character in the anime. Mikasa is half Asian and the last of her race. Before she was accepted into the Yeager family, the girl's mother and father died at the hands of slavers. That evening, with the help of Eren, Mikasa regained her freedom by killing one of the kidnappers who decided to sell the girl after the death of her parents. The murder of Mikasa's parents left an indelible mark on her soul. She treasures her scarf, which Eren gave her.
ArminArlert
Armin Arlert Arumin
Arureruto?) is Eren's best friend, physically and emotionally weak, although his strategic intuition has repeatedly saved his friends and team. He considers himself completely incompetent and hates himself for relying on others. By soldier's standards, Armin does not have high physical abilities, but is strong in combat tactics. He is afraid of losing his best friends Eren and Mikasa.
Secondary heroes.
ErwinSmith(Japanese: エルワイン・スミス) Also known as Commander Erwin. Former reconnaissance squad leader. Erwin is a thoughtful and respected person. Despite caring for his own soldiers, he is able to sacrifice them without hesitation for the sake of the future of mankind. Recruits Eren to the reconnaissance squad.
Hannes- garrison guard officer. Does not have courage - when the titans attacked Wall Maria, he could not find the courage to fight the titan in order to save Eren's mother, but he saved Eren and Mikasa by dragging them away from the titan. Eren meets with him several times before joining the reconnaissance squad, and each time Hannes thinks about how Eren changes over time. Eaten by the same titan as Eren's mother.
RivayAckerman(Japanese: リヴァイ・アッカーマン) The captain of the reconnaissance squad, as well as the commander of the special forces squad. Known as a “clean-spitting man”, he is quite sharp and rude, respects discipline, which makes him an impregnable person, however, he values human life, because without disgust he shakes the bloodied hand of a dying comrade in order to calm him down in the last minutes of his life.
SashaBlaus(Jap. サシャ・ブラウス translation - Braus) Cadet of the 104th Corps, ranked ninth among graduates. Is a comic character. Often behaves too eccentrically, is inappropriately polite, extremely generous and sympathetic. It consumes a lot of food, because it grew up in conditions of scarcity of game. Often steals food from the canteen. Received the nickname "potato" after a small incident: on the first day, upon admission, she was seen eating potatoes in the ranks, after which she was sent to run for five hours and was deprived of lunch.
jeanKirstein(Japanese: ジャン・キルシュタイン) Cadet of the 104th Corps, ranked sixth among graduates. He says what he thinks, despite being aware of the negative consequences, which is the reason for clashes with Eren, in addition to their strong difference in outlook on life, however, he is an honest person.
AnnieLeonhart(Japanese: アニ・レオンハート) Cadet of the 104th Corps, ranked fourth among graduates. Joins the military police. It is considered closed, apathetic, does not invest any effort, is neutral about training and disciplines. Instead, he focuses only on securing himself a military police service for an easy life. Comes from the same village as Rainer Braun and Bertolt Hoover. During the defense of Trosta, she was sent to the rear along with Mikasa to protect the evacuating residents. It is a female titan.
Otitans.
Titans-
(Japanese 巨人) little is known: they attack instinctively and, although they devour humans, they don't need food in principle and can survive by absorbing sunlight. Having filled their belly with people, the titans spit them out in the form of a huge ball. Titans don't react to animals at all. They have tough skin and the ability to regenerate, so they can only be killed by making a deep cut at the base of the neck. The smallest are 3 meters tall, and the largest known titan, the Colossus, is over 50 meters. Some titans are very similar to humans, some have a disproportionately huge head or torso. It is known that a titan does not need food or water to survive. Their main source of energy is the sun, otherwise they hibernate.
Eren seeks to destroy the giants and explore the world around him. His philosophy is "Fighting is life, losing is death." At the age of 9, he saved Mikasa, a girl whose family was killed by slavers. He only ranked fifth among the graduate cadets of his group, as he does not have any special talents in the field of martial skills, but he compensates for this with great diligence and determination. During the battle in Trost, he discovers the ability to turn into a 15-meter giant. At first, the main character could not fully control the summoned titan, but after long training, he received a wide range of abilities and absolute control. When the giant can no longer function, Eren emerges from the back of the titan's neck (the weak point of every titan), where his body merges with the spine. Later, he discovers the ability to control giants, which is called the coordinate. His father Grisha disappeared after the fall of Shiganshina, leaving Eren the key to a room in the basement of their house, which he kept locked and kept some kind of secret.
For four years, secretly from the Eldian government, he met with Elena, from whom he learned about Zeke's plans and then began to cooperate. Soon he arbitrarily leaves the island and infiltrates the Eldian troops on the mainland. He also rethinks his goals, becomes a cold-blooded, prudent person. Now, in order to achieve his goals, Eren no longer shrinks from means, using any available methods. He staged a massacre in Liberio, while killing many members of the Marley command, as well as ordinary residents. He greatly impressed his comrades with the cruelty and indifference shown in the massacre, making them doubt their confidence in themselves. Indirectly, it is the cause of Sasha's death. Upon returning to Paradise, he was imprisoned, but got out of there. He made an agreement with Zeke, as a result of which he betrayed Paradise and led the Eldia revival group, which includes Flock, young soldiers of the reconnaissance squad, as well as some Marleys.

Her last words, spoken to Grisha before the transformation, were: “Whatever form it takes ... I will always look for you ...”
- Rod Reiss(jap. ロッド・レイス Roddo Raisu) The only survivor of the royal family, who led behind the backs of others. He had 5 legitimate children, and after treason with servants, Historia was born. It is there that he is mortally wounded and dies, giving Levi the serum of the titans.
- Flock Forster(Japanese: フロック・フォルスター Flock Forster) A young soldier in the reconnaissance squad. The only survivor of the Beast Giant's stone barrage. He thought that the right decision would be to inject Erwin with the serum, and not Armin. Four years later, he became a supporter of the revival of Eldia, which is why he went over to the side of Eren and Zeke, while betraying the reconnaissance squad and his comrades from Paradise.
Titans
O titans (jap. 巨人 kyojin) little is known: they attack instinctively and, although they devour humans, in principle do not need food and can survive by absorbing sunlight. Having filled their belly with people, the titans spit them out in the form of a huge ball. Titans don't react to animals at all. They have tough skin and the ability to regenerate, so they can only be killed by making a deep cut at the base of the neck. This fact forced humanity to come up with a "spatial maneuvering device" (jap. 立体機動装置 rittai kido:so:ti, lit. "device for mobile maneuvering in three-dimensional space"), or UPM for short. With it, it is possible to move quickly in three-dimensional space, clinging to objects and ledges, which makes it possible to reach the weak point of the titans and cut their neck with the help of special blades. The use of the device requires special physical training, excellent knowledge of information on its use and, most importantly, balance.
It is not known how the titans appeared on Earth. The smallest are 3 meters tall, and the largest known titan - Colossus - is about 60 meters. Some titans are very similar to humans, some have a disproportionately huge head or torso. It is known that a titan does not need food or water to survive. Their main source of energy is the sun, otherwise they hibernate. The amount of time a titan is active after it has stopped receiving sunlight depends on the size of the titan, the larger it is the longer it stays active. Titanium's temperature is so high that contact with the body can cause burns, and when the Titans are injured, steam escapes from the body. Despite their huge size, the weight of the Titans is incredibly small. If you cut off a part of the body from a titan, then it will quickly recover, but if you cut the part between the back of the head and the base of the neck of the titan, then it dies. It is known that in fact some titans can take on a human form (Eren, Ani, Berthold, Reiner, Ymir, Frida, Grisha, Zeke). In human form, their bodies quickly regenerate by releasing steam. However, simple titans do not distinguish between such "people" and try to eat them, like the rest. In order to take the form of a titan, they need to injure themselves and concentrate on a specific target. The very same body is in the neck of the titan - just in the vulnerable part. It is unknown if regular titans can have humans in their necks, or if they were human in the past. Connie, seeing the titan on the ruined home, noted that the creature was strikingly similar to his mother. In the manga, there is a special type of titan, similar to a monkey, with intelligence and the ability to speak, however, his motives did not differ from ordinary titans. He is 17 meters tall, incredibly strong and accurate, and can control ordinary titans with the help of intimidation. This is a "beast-like titan" who is Zeke Yeager, Grisha Yeager's son and Eren's half-brother. In the process of studying the titans, a theory appeared that they were all people and that if a person stays in the neck of a titan for a long time, then he “assimilates”, that is, finally merges with the spine. It has been noticed that titans are both ordinary and anomalous (dissimilar in activity), they are also able to jump after the victim or run on all 4 legs like a dog, they are extremely dangerous because of their activity.
Humanity has fallen. The earth no longer belongs to the people. For a hundred years, the survivors have been forced to drag out their existence behind three rows of giant stone walls that protect them from the threat. The enemy of people is simply monstrous: once huge titans appeared on earth and began to devour everyone who came to hand. And progress gave way to decline - technology remained at the level of the nineteenth century, the most powerful weapons of mankind are guns, which will do little to help in the battle with such an enemy. Would you like to live in such a world? I wouldn't. And anime characters Shingeki no Kyojin("Attack on Titan", "Invasion of the Giants", "Attack on Titan") You don't have to choose: you either fight or go to the titans for a snack... By the way, season 2 of the attack of the titans can be viewed online at http://animaunt.ru, in the best quality.
Brief information
Shingeki no Kyojin was released in 2013 by the studio Production I. G, and consists of 25 episodes and several side storylines. Attack on Titan is not an ordinary anime. The main purpose of its release was to boost the sales of a not very well-selling manga. The result exceeded all expectations. No one expected such a resounding success from the anime. In terms of fame, no one could compete with Attack on Titan in 2013. Thanks to anime, the manga company was finally able to increase its profits for the first time in years.
Apparently, not everyone liked this success. I saw with my own eyes that on one popular foreign resource, Attack on Titan, according to the results of the popular vote, was recognized as the most overrated anime in history. And to be honest, I don't quite understand it. Yes, Shingeki No Kyojin has a number of flaws, but there are plenty of good features in this anime. Criticizing Attack on Titan is almost as fashionable as criticizing. I'm right in my sleep and I see how some hater is sitting on the forums and scribbling messages like this: “After all, this is mainstream, anime for cattle” . Although what to take from such, let them assert themselves. Honestly, Attack on Titan is one of the few anime that I would recommend without hesitation to a person who is not familiar with the anime industry and is looking for something to watch.
Characters
Okay, enough of the lyrics, it's time to move on to the facts. Let's start with the characters. Their number is huge. First of all, this is due to the fact that people in that world are constantly dying, and new ones are coming to replace them. However, it is worth noting that all the secondary characters are well written. There is no feeling that these are soulless mannequins, uttering learned formulaic phrases, and needed only as food for the titans. In anime, where psychology plays an important role, the variety of characters and their characters is very important. In my opinion, "Attack on Titan" copes with this with a bang.
The secondary characters are good. What about the main ones? There are only three of them, let's look at them in more detail:
Eren Yeager. He finds himself in the middle of the action when a huge colossus makes a hole in the outer wall of "Maria". The titan devours Eren's mother right before his eyes. Enraged by his impotence, Eren vowed to destroy all the titans in this world. To do this, he entered the academy, which teaches to fight the titans one on one with the help of a system of winches and swords. Even without a developed mind, due to his perseverance and courage (sometimes on the verge of recklessness), he manages to get into the ranks of the best.
What can I say: I did not notice original and interesting ideas in the main character. trait used an idealist who tries with all his might to become stronger. Perhaps the only unusual thing that I want to note is Eren's gradual realization that in order to defeat the monsters, one must become a monster himself. Not only physically, but also mentally. This is very well displayed in the last episodes of the season. So over time, Eren turns from a person with high moral standards into something bestial, and I liked that. But if we discard this fact, then it is easy to see that Eren is an ordinary "Aaaaaa kill all the villains" a character who tends to utter all sorts of pathos phrases during battles, which begin to get bored towards the end. Oh yeah, he also sometimes starts to become unbearably stupid.
Armin Arlert. Eren's childhood friend. Together they dreamed of getting beyond the walls to travel through fields, seas and deserts. He has a developed mind, but is physically inferior to his peers. Because of this, he often turned out to be the object of bullying, from which Eren and Mikasa defended him in every possible way. Together with Eren, he decides to enter the academy to fight the titans, and he does it more for the company than out of a desire for revenge.
Personally, Armin seemed to me a little more non-standard than Eren. A sort of self-underestimating nerd who constantly needs to be supported and reminded of his genius. I think each of you in school had an acquaintance with an excellent student, who is most worried about the results of exams, but always gets the highest score. Here is Armin - one of them. But what I liked the most is how well shown contrast between Armin and Eren: sanity versus vehemence, fear versus battle frenzy, intelligence versus strength. If Eren starts to seem like a killing machine, then Armin remains much more human all the time.
Mikasa Ackerman. Eren's half sister. After bandits kill her family and Eren saves her from death, Eren's parents decide to take Mikasa into their care. For this, she is filled with love and gratitude for Eren, and seeks to protect him everywhere. Together with him, he enters the academy, where he very quickly becomes the best due to his incredibly fast technique of owning a flight device.
Mikasa fits very well into the atmosphere of that cruel world. Of course, sometimes her behavior towards Eren seems somewhat fanatical, but this can be attributed to the fear of losing the last loved one. She speaks the least, but does the most. I have always respected these people. In general, of the whole trio, Mikasa is the least annoying.
As you can see, you will not find any super-revelations among the main characters. However, I really liked that as the story progressed there is no looping on one of them. The emphasis gradually shifts from one character to another. Hell, at a certain point, I actually started to think that the main character in the anime is not Eren, but Armin. There is such a moment in the plot that turned out to be a complete surprise for me, and forced me to draw erroneous conclusions. I’m sure that I couldn’t watch Eren’s moral torment for 25 episodes, so shifting the focus from one main character to another was a completely justified move, which is complemented by well-written secondary characters. You won't be bored!
Plot
The plot can be easily divided into two parts - successful and incoherent. When I watched it, I got the feeling that the scriptwriters were so freaked out by success that they got scared and decided to drastically slow down the development of the plot. If until about the middle it is simply replete with bright and unexpected events, then from watching the remaining episodes I got the impression that I was watching Naruto. I watched the first part of the series with my mouth open, swallowing episode after episode. I watched the second part with increasing bewilderment, because I did not understand how such a dynamic anime could be so slow down. Events that used to fit in one episode began to be spread out into three or four. The only decent justification that comes to mind is that the studio smelled the money and decided to make some extra money. And what is the easiest way to do this? That's right, by increasing the number of series and reducing the number of events. Quality suffers, but you can milk a successful title longer. It's unfortunate that this is happening more and more often.
Panache
Drawing in anime excellent. From any screenshot, we can conclude that this frame is from Attack on Titan. When an anime has its own unique style of drawing, thanks to which you will not confuse it with anything, it speaks of the great work done by the artists. There are many characters, but their appearance is very different, and each has its own feature. Take the same Mikasa with her scarf or Anya Lionheart with her hooked nose. All the characters are clearly drawn, the backgrounds are filled with small details. I especially want to note the animation during the battles - it's just incomparable. There is a feeling that you are literally flying next to the hero.
Music
The music is nothing like the art. The OST is roughly two and a half hours long, which is pretty good for a 25-episode anime. The opening still gives me goosebumps. The Attack on Titan soundtrack is one of my favorites, I listen to it from time to time at work.
atmospheric
Just in the anime elegantly seasoned atmosphere. Everything, literally everything, is aimed at maintaining this atmosphere: starting from specific drawing and animation, and ending with unexpected plot moves. It’s not often that you come across a situation where art, music and action complement each other so harmoniously. I had a feeling of tension, it seemed that something unexpected was about to happen. Here and there blood is shed, people die by the hundreds, titans fall with their necks cut. When viewing, you literally immerse yourself in the atmosphere of that world, it seems that you, along with the heroes, fly between buildings and chop the titans, and that you, along with them, risk your life every minute. Toward the end, the sensations become dull, but in the moments of urban battles, adrenaline is rushing. Very rarely have I experienced this kind of anime experience, the effect is comparable to watching a movie in a movie theater in 3D on a huge screen.
Psychology
I also liked psychological component anime. In the cruel world of Attack on Titan, you will see all possible mortal sins. People are different: some seek to fight, not sparing their own skins, while others hide in a corner of fear, begging for mercy. There are those who voluntarily take on the most difficult and dangerous tasks, and there are freeloaders who are ready to hide behind the very last row of walls. It is especially sad when cowards find themselves in the ranks of the authorities. Oh, how I wanted Eren to decapitate the head of the defense of the second wall, who began to shoot at the survivors with a cannon, while hiding behind the walls at the first opportunity. And if anime is capable of causing hatred for its characters, then it copes with its task. Making a good villain is much more difficult than making a good hero. Not many people realize this.
Flaws
Obviously, all of the above is more than enough to call "Attack on Titan" a worthy candidate for viewing. But there are a number of significant shortcomings in this anime, because of which it is subjected to harsh criticism. Firstly, as I have already noted, there is a sharp plot slowdown in the second part of the anime. The way the heroes on horseback during the whole series run away from the titan, while exchanging arrogant phrases, cannot but infuriate. Here's the truth, just like in Naruto: one character says a phrase, then the camera runs over the rest of the participants in the conversation for a minute. Then there is some minor action, and again the camera pans over each character, showing the changed expression on their faces.
The second disadvantage I'll call pathos. Again, the second half of the anime sins with this. Since there are fewer events, the freed time must be filled with something. The writers solved this problem in the simplest way: they added a bunch of unnecessary chatter on the topic of high matters. All these show-offs and mental anguish caused me nothing but irritation.
And finally, sometimes in anime there is humor that is completely out of place. You have people torn apart here, and you are joking. I first noticed this in the series about the camp, where the heroes are trained in the skill of fighting the titans. Yes, it is clear that in this way the creators of the anime are trying to make the characters closer to the viewer. But jokes about, sorry, farting look absolutely ridiculous. Thank God that in the future it is reduced to a minimum.
