The “St. George Ribbon” campaign was conceived and implemented by RIA Novosti and the Student Community with the support of the Moscow Government. The purpose of this event, according to the initiators of this project, is to create an atmosphere of universal celebration, to express respect and pride for our veterans. This is not only a tribute to the memory of those who fell on the battlefield, but also gratitude to the people who went through the WAR.

St. George ribbons have semantic symbolism. Their colors - black and orange - mean “smoke and flame”, characteristic of wartime. The St. George ribbons personify the feat of the Russian warrior on the battlefields, in the rear and on the front line.

This, still relatively young, fairly new symbolism awakens in people, first of all, patriotic feelings, filling them with a sense of pride in their victorious country. In addition to all of the above, bright ribbons evoke cheerful, festive emotions and give a feeling of inviolability and unity.

On the eve of the celebration of Victory Day and the days of the action, each participant puts a St. George ribbon on his lapel, hand, bag or car antenna as a sign of memory of the heroic past, expressing respect for veterans, paying tribute to the memory of those who died on the battlefield, gratitude to people who gave everything for the front during the Great Patriotic War.

On the eve of the Victory Day, the St. George's Ribbon campaign is taking place in Russian cities. Thousands of volunteers distribute them to everyone on busy streets and in parks.

As a symbol of victory over fascism.

Hello!

Today we will talk about a significant event.

You all know that every year, on May 9, the whole world celebrates Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.

Slide 1.

This holiday became a symbol of national pride, glory, valor, when all the people united to defeat Nazi Germany. Our people passed the test of war with honor.

For courage and bravery, military valor, 13 million soldiers were awarded orders and medals, 11 thousand were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Slide 2.

Our people accomplished a feat that has no equal in history. Fascist troops were defeated near Moscow, Stalingrad and Leningrad, in the Caucasus, on the Kursk Bulge, in Belarus...

But at what cost was the victory won?!

Slide 3.

Each of these people was our compatriot, someone’s relatives and friends. These were people who dreamed of a happy life for their people.

Over time, this immeasurable feat of people who have become a legend, telling the world about the greatness of the human spirit, about burning hatred for enslavers, about boundless love for their native land and for freedom, is seen more and more grandiosely.

Guys, I think you know, for several years now the St. George’s Ribbon event has been taking place in Russia, dedicated to the anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

What do you think this ribbon means?

Why now has it become a symbol of victory?

What is the meaning of this high-profile action, in which millions of people participate?

Slide 4.

For the first time in the spring 2005 year, the “St. George’s Ribbon” appeared on the streets of Russian cities. The action, conceived and carried out by RIA Novosti and the “Student Community” in the year of the 60th anniversary of the Victory, united people of different ages and social groups during the days of celebration.

Slide 5-6.

The St. George's Ribbon gets its name from the Order of St. George. Saint George is a great martyr. He was tortured and killed by the enemies of Christianity - the pagans. For his courage and spiritual victory over his tormentors, who could not force him to renounce Christianity, as well as for his miraculous help to people in danger, Saint George is also called the Victorious.

Slide 7.

The Holy Great Martyr George is considered the patron and protector of warriors.

Since the time of Grand Duke John III, the image of St. George the Victorious - a horseman slaying a serpent with a spear - has become the coat of arms of Moscow and the emblem of the Russian state.

Slide 8.

Slide 9.

The Order of St. George was divided into four degrees, and the first time the lowest, 4th degree was awarded, the next time the higher 3rd, then the 2nd and, finally, the one who accomplished the fourth outstanding feat could be nominated for the Order of St. George 1- th degree.

About how honorable it was to receive the Order of St. George, 1st degree, is evidenced, for example, by the following fact. More than a thousand people received the highest award of the Russian Empire - the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called.

And the Order of St. George, 1st degree, is only 25 people, among them the great Russian commander Suvorov Alexander Vasilyevich. He was awarded this order for his outstanding victory over the Turks in September 1789 on the Rymnik River.

Slide 10.

Slide 11.

Today we heard about the exploits of our distant ancestors. But these are events of long ago. What does the Order of St. George have to do with the most terrible war of the 20th century? Here's what it is.

Slide 12.

In the midst of the battle with the Nazis, the Order of the Patriotic War was established. It also has a St. George ribbon on it - as a symbol of connection with the Russian military tradition. The Order of the Patriotic War was awarded to privates and commanding officers of the Red Army, Navy, NKVD troops and partisan detachments who showed themselves in battles for the Soviet Motherland, as well as military personnel for bravery, perseverance and courage, who through their actions contributed to the success of the military operations of our troops.

Slide 13.

Slide 14.

The black and orange colors of the St. George Ribbon have become a symbol of military valor and glory in Russia. What do these colors mean?

Slide 15.

Now we know that black and orange ribbons are a symbol of memory of Russia’s victory in the Great Patriotic War; they have become a sign of eternal gratitude to the veterans who liberated the world from fascism. The current action "St. George's Ribbon" is a relay race from past generations to the present. A relay of national memory, respect for the exploits of fathers and grandfathers, a relay of readiness to defend one’s land, one’s people, one’s language, one’s name. This action is becoming a good tradition, a general tribute to memory and respect for veterans. Our people have always been strong in their unity; it is this unity that has always saved Russia in the most difficult times. But we are united as long as we remember.

Slide 16.

For several years now, on the eve of Victory Day in Russia, the patriotic event “St. George’s Ribbon” has been held.

The St. George's Ribbon campaign, conceived by RIA Novosti and the Student Community in 2005, the year of the 60th anniversary of the Victory, is becoming larger every year.

The purpose of this event, according to the initiators of this project, is to create an atmosphere of universal celebration, to express respect and pride for our veterans. This is not only a tribute to the memory of those who fell on the battlefield, but also gratitude to the people who went through the WAR.

St. George Ribbon bicolor (two-color) orange and black) - a two-color ribbon for the Order of St. George, “For Victory over Germany” or as it is also called “Guards Ribbon”.

The St. George's Ribbon gets its name from the Order of St. George. This order was established in Russia in 1769. It is named after St. George, the patron saint of the Russian army.

Saint George - Great Martyr

He was tortured and killed by the enemies of Christianity - the pagans. For his courage and spiritual victory over his tormentors, who could not force him to renounce Christianity, as well as for his miraculous help to people in danger, Saint George is also called the Victorious.

On the icons, Saint George is depicted sitting on a white horse and slaying a serpent with a spear. This image is based on legend and refers to the posthumous miracles of the Holy Great Martyr George.

Coat of arms of the city of Moscow

The Holy Great Martyr George is considered the patron and protector of warriors. Since the time of Grand Duke John III, the image of St. George the Victorious - a horseman slaying a serpent with a spear - has become the coat of arms of Moscow and the emblem of the Russian state.

Order of St. George

In Russia, the Holy Great Martyr George was very loved and revered. Therefore, they gave his name to the most honorable military order. This order was awarded only to officers and generals for personal military merits.

The order was awarded to:

Those who “personally leading an army, will win a complete victory over an enemy consisting of significant forces, the consequence of which will be its complete destruction.”

“Personally leading the army, he will take the fortress.”

For the capture of the enemy banner, the capture of the commander-in-chief of the enemy army and other outstanding feats.

Order of awarding the order

The first time the lowest, 4th degree was awarded, the next time the higher 3rd, then the 2nd and, finally, the one who accomplished the fourth outstanding feat could be nominated for the Order of St. George, 1st degree.

More than a thousand people received the outstanding award of the Russian Empire - the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. And the Order of St. George, 1st degree, is only for 25 people. Among them are the great commanders Suvorov and Kutuzov.

Golden weapons

Another award is associated with the name of St. George in Russia - “Golden Weapon”

Since 1807, persons awarded the "Golden Arms" were considered holders of the Order of St. George. In 1913, this award received the official name "St. George's Arms". The Order of St. George and the award weapon “For Bravery” could only be received by officers and generals.

St. George's Cross

To award soldiers and non-commissioned officers at the beginning of the 19th century, a special silver St. George Cross was established, which had one degree and was worn on an orange and black St. George ribbon.

In the middle of the 19th century, the soldier's St. George's Order was divided into four degrees (1st and 2nd - gold, 3rd and 4th silver) and began to be issued in the same way as the Order of St. George, i.e. first 4- I, then 3rd, 2nd and finally 1st degree - the highest.

Some heroes wore St. George's crosses of all 4 degrees on their chests, the so-called “full bow”.

Order of the Patriotic War

At the height of the battle with the Nazis in 1942, the Order of the Patriotic War was established. It also has a St. George ribbon on it - as a symbol of connection with the Russian military tradition.

The black and orange colors of the St. George Ribbon have become a symbol of military valor and glory in Russia.

Some historians believe that these are “the color of gunpowder and the color of fire...”, these are the colors of the Russian coat of arms: a black eagle and a golden crown, others believe.

These are the colors of victory, the colors of courage and heroism, a symbol of memory and respect for veterans.

A symbol of memory of Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War, St. George's ribbons have become a sign of eternal gratitude to the veterans who liberated the world from fascism.

Our people have always been strong in their unity; it is this unity that has always saved Russia in the most difficult times. But we are united as long as we remember.

We remember!

We are proud!

The presentation tells about the history of the Order of the Holy Great Martyr and Victorious George and the St. George Ribbon - a symbol of military valor and glory, as well as the goals of the People's Action "St. George Ribbon" on the eve of the celebration of Victory Day.
