Highway 5. Highway M5 - beautiful landscapes and terrible roads

"Ural" route Moscow-Chelyabinsk starts from the intersection of the Moscow Ring Road and Volgogradsky Prospekt. Then it follows the Ryazan highway to Ryazan and through Penza, Samara and Ufa reaches Chelyabinsk. The M5 highway is the shortest road linking the center European Russia with the Urals and Siberia. For the sake of interest, take a look at any road atlas: all distances from Moscow to Siberian and Far Eastern cities are given with the passage through Chelyabinsk.

Weak population of the Siberian open spaces predetermined the nature of the auto traffic of this route. It is the busiest highway trucking. If the roads leading from the center to Europe or the Caucasus are occupied mainly by cars, then on the M5 the concentration of multi-ton trucks significantly exceeds the average Russian figure.

Nursing track

The M5 highway has a length of just over two thousand kilometers. It also has its own "chips". This, for example, is the Mordovian village of Umet. With a population of less than three thousand people, it has about five hundred cafes that supply travelers with quality and inexpensive food. It can be said without exaggeration that the M5 track is a breadwinner for Umet.

Harsh climatic conditions

The nature of road transport leaves a peculiar imprint on the route.

Heavy trucks the asphalt concrete pavement of the canvas is broken rather quickly, which is why the road needs regular and frequent repairs. An important circumstance affecting the rate of destruction of the route is the difference in seasonal temperatures. If in the European part of the country it is less noticeable, then in the Ural mountains the average January temperature reaches sixteen degrees below zero with periodic frosts up to thirty-five to forty degrees. And in summer, the thermometer often shows a thirty-degree (and even more) heat. Together with the nature of the auto-flow, this cannot but affect the highway in the most destructive way. Roads in regions where seasonal temperature differences are smaller do not deteriorate as quickly. So in this regard, the M5 highway was not lucky.

mountain scenery

Most scenic spots start in the vicinity of the city of Sim, Chelyabinsk region. At this point, the M5 highway rises into the mountains. And for more than two hundred kilometers, travelers can admire the mountain landscapes. It is just right to take artists to the open air.

A “fly in the ointment” can be added to the “honey barrel” by the low speed of cars, which are quite difficult to overtake in this section due to the small width of the road, frequent turns and high density movement.

Accidents on the track

The congestion of the highway leaves its mark on the nature of traffic accidents. If the number of cars moving from the center to the south decreases with the end of the holiday season, then there is always "tension". Accidents on the M5 highway happen regularly. This is especially true for the mountainous part, where, in order not to fly into a ditch on the slopes and turns in winter time you have to be very careful and vigilant. Despite the small height of the Ural Mountains, the abyss of one hundred meters is not uncommon here. And sometimes drivers, lulled by the generally calm nature of the road, are not ready to face unexpected danger.

Each of us wants to travel by car on a long journey. But they scare weather and roads. But there are also desperate people who are not afraid of mountains, potholes, traffic jams. There are no barriers for them. And for them it seems simple. Let's take a closer look at this road.

general information

The route passes through several regions (Chelyabinsk, Orenburg, Samara, Penza, Ryazan, Moscow). Its length is 1879 kilometers. Exist like detours major cities(Penza, Kuznetsk, Ryazan), and entrances (Samara, Ufa).

The temperature regime is different in winter and summer. On the way there are Tsna, Sura, Belaya, Miass, as well as the Kuibyshev reservoir. All bridges over 50 meters long have a carrying capacity of sixty to eighty tons.

road surface

The M5 highway is an asphalt concrete road. The width of its carriageway is about 8 meters. Drivers complain about uneven, sometimes narrow road surfaces, rare medical and repair points, unsuitable roadsides, poor infrastructure in some places.

Separate sections are now being reconstructed according to the latest standards. For example, the Ufa-Pokrovka section has three even lanes with a dividing strip, convenient interchanges, ramps, fences and bright markings. is in line for modernization, so it will soon turn into an autobahn.

The main problem is the road surface. It breaks under the influence natural conditions and heavy load. Now only 35% of the track length complies with the regulations. The remaining 65% correspond partially or are generally in an unsatisfactory condition.

Dangerous areas

The scenery along the way is wonderful. But beautiful nature don't really enjoy it since a lot dangerous places. For example, M 5 Ural. This is Chelyabinsk region. AT mountainous areas every year about fifty people die and two hundred are injured.

The width of the road in each direction here is from 1 to 3 lanes. The streams of cars are sometimes separated by a lane or a fence. In this area, 84% of the roads do not meet the standards due to the difficult terrain. The intensity of traffic has long exceeded the planned 5-7 times! You need to drive especially carefully in winter - ice, drifts, traffic jams provoke

On the flat part of the highway, you should not relax either. In places, there are deep ruts in the sections, which were formed by heavy vehicles.

Road congestion

The highway is rich and long-range. The tense situation near Ufa and in Ryazan region. Part of the problem is solved by bypass highways. After the opening of the Ulyanovsk bridge, drivers go around the Samara and Penza regions through Saransk-Ulyanovsk-Koshki-Sukhodol. Here the traffic is less busy, but there are few gas stations and motels.

Service

It features many gas stations with shops, cafes, toilets, showers. At some gas stations, you can even check or clean the interior of the car. Also along the way there are many cafes and restaurants, which, by the way, cook well. And the prices are more reasonable than in the city. There are hotels and inns. So on the road, brave ones! Dare!

"Ural" ( Novoryazanskoe highway) — highway federal significance in Russia. It starts in Moscow, passes through the cities: Ryazan, Penza, Samara, Ufa and ends in Chelyabinsk. Has entrances to Ryazan, Saransk, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Samara, Orenburg, Ufa and Yekaterinburg. The route is part of the E 30 European route network and the Asian route A102.

The length is 2068 kilometers.

Stationary traffic police posts are located in the city of Lukhovitsy at 140 km and in the city of Spassk at 477 km.

There is very dense traffic on the highway, a lot of heavy vehicles, including those from the countries of the former CIS. The infrastructure is well developed all over. Traffic jams often form at the exit from Moscow, it is recommended to drive through the capital on weekdays or at night. There is no lighting on the Kolomna-Lukhovitsy section of the road, and wild animals often come out onto the roadway. It is recommended to keep a speed at which it is possible to brake quickly. Shatsk is desirable to drive along the bypass, in the city itself there are many traffic police posts, speed limits and signs prohibiting overtaking, travel will take a lot of time. In Penza, on the contrary, it is recommended to go through the center, due to the fact that there are often traffic jams on the district. Problems can also arise at the site in the Togliatti region, where traffic jams also occur very often. There is no way to go around them without making a significant detour. You are less likely to get stuck in a traffic jam if you drive through the city at night or early in the morning.

The section of the road from Ufa to Chelyabinsk is very difficult. It is sometimes referred to in the press as the "road of death". It is connected with a large number serious accidents as a result of frontal collisions. The road is narrow, congestion is high, overtaking is prohibited on long sections. Many drivers ignore the prohibition signs and drive into the oncoming lane, which is the cause of numerous accidents.

The road passes through mountainous and flat terrain and is distinguished by a large number of very picturesque views.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the place Umet, known for its large selection (more than 300) of good cafes and eateries. Located on 430 km of the highway.

Number of lanes

There are 4 lanes on the Moscow-Bronnitsy section, 2 lanes for 25 km from Bronnitsy, then the route again expands to 4 lanes for a 40-km section, and then 2 lanes go to Ryazan itself. Ryazan - Penza - 2 lanes for traffic, on the segment Penza - Samara 2 lanes are provided, Samara - Ufa mostly 4 lanes, sometimes 2, from Ufa to Chelyabinsk - 2 lanes and from Chelyabinsk to Yekaterinburg - 4 lanes for traffic, 2 in each side.

State

Section Moscow - Penza. In the Moscow region, the road is very good condition, smooth road surface without any irregularities. It deteriorates a little in the Ryazan region: a slight rut appears. Further to Penza, the track is also in good condition.

Penza - Syzran. The road as a whole is in good condition, the quality of the roadway deteriorates noticeably in the Gorodishche area. Repairs were carried out at the Kuznetsovo-Syzran section in the summer of 2014. There are pits and problem areas on the Syzran bypass.

The segment of the route Syzran - Samara received only very positive reviews and is estimated at 4-5 points.

On the Samara-Ufa section, the road surface is of average quality, some sections are badly broken, and heavy vehicles also make it difficult to move. In the Samara region, repairs are being carried out on certain sections of the road.

The route from Ufa to Chelyabinsk is in good condition, there are short sections where the roadway may deteriorate slightly.

I will tell about the May trip to Penza and Tambov in stages, although I originally planned to make one general report. I realized - there is no need to rush, because we will talk about new places for us. And it is not easy to write about something new - impressions have not subsided, feelings and attitudes have not formed. Even the initial assessment - liked / disliked - may turn out to be, if not erroneous, then not accurate, until all superficial things fly off. Did you have it like that?
Yes, I'm coming to the report for a long time. If with a review about the hotel where we lived in Penza, everything was unambiguous - an excellent hotel, then everything else ... How the choice of the direction of our small May expedition was protracted and dreary (initially we planned to go to Voronezh, then we reoriented to Penza and Tambov) , so the report is born slowly.
I'll start the report on the trip to Penza and Tambov from the road - impressions of the M5 highway, travel photos. I tried to photograph the most characteristic moments. I'll start with a story, then there will be a small photo essay.
So, we drove along the M5 "Ural". The very name of the track is so powerful! - talks about where you can get on it. The heart begins to beat faster when you read the names of the cities - Samara, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg... God willing, someday it will be so... But now Penza.

Advertising - club support

Many of you asked me about the road to Penza - what is it like. Broken in places, new in others. Somewhere repairs, somewhere traffic jams. You can’t call it well-maintained - there are many two-lane sections that are not equipped with fenders, completely unlit, without toilets and chain cafes (after Ryazan). Brand gas stations, again, only to Ryazan, one - in Mordovia, and then closer to Penza. As usual, halfway through they recalled the M4 with nostalgia ...
On the way to Penza, we passed through the Moscow and Ryazan regions, a small piece of the Republic of Mordovia (about 40 km.) And the Penza region.
in emotional and cognitive plan there are interesting scenic spots and attractions on the M5. Kolomna, Lukhovitsy, Ryazan, Konstantinovo are just on the way to Penza, but all the interesting things still remain aside. If you wish, you can build an amazing travel route and even rush off to visit the Mistress of the Copper Mountain. Take note.
But if you move in one jerk, as we do, then for the most part the road is long, tedious, and there is nothing to catch the eye.
It took exactly 12 hours to Penza. This time includes refueling, a sanitary stop and two stops for a snack. The first - in the Ryazan region in the network cafe "Taste of Childhood" that we checked. The second - in the Republic of Mordovia in the famous village of Umet - in the most ordinary home cafe near the highway (I've never seen anything like this!). It took about an hour and a half to stop. But without it, nothing. Prose of life. Rest is needed.
And now the photo story.

Let's take off. :) More precisely, we start. Here is a plane standing at the Chkalovsky airfield. We live a few kilometers from here. and on the way to Moscow we always pass this place on the Shchelkovo highway.

I must say, we passed the MKAD, like the Shchelkovo highway, successfully, without any traffic jams. M5 appears on the signs, we are leaving the Moscow Ring Road.

In a little over an hour since the start from home, we "stand at the finish line" - M5. This is a very good start.

Where to eat on the M5 near Moscow is not a problem. Network "Pompom" we met a couple of times. But we immediately decided that we would stop at another chain establishment - the Taste of Childhood cafe near Ryazan.

The condition of the route to Ryazan is generally good. Although, in my opinion, in two places it is too jagged, given that it is federal highway. In places there are traffic jams due to stupid traffic lights and, again, excessive bending.

There is a funny inscription on the door: "To avoid misunderstandings. We are not a pom-pom. We are the Taste of Childhood."

The food was amazing again. Delicious pancakes, lots of sour cream. Awesome dried fruit compote! Recommend! We always buy a bottle right away.

Very tasty pasties.

The asking price is quite normal.

We ate, rested (it took all of 30 minutes) and drove on.

Stela "Ryazan region". Closer to Ryazan, the movement began to thicken.

And here is Ryazan itself and its wonderful original stele.

Well, for Ryazan it was like this,

so. Frankly speaking, the roads in the Ryazan region are bad.

And about great amount we all know the once magnificent temples abandoned in the Ryazan region ...

Mordovia has begun.

Apart from a 40-minute stop at a cafe in the village of Umet. A few words about the village. I have never seen anything like this - a village along the highway and in every house there is a cafe! Now I read on Wikipedia that Umet is a very famous locality on the M5 highway. Along the road for 2 km. there are more than 500 cafes! Of course, at that time we knew nothing about the uniqueness of the place. But honestly, I was stunned by what I saw. The soul could not stand it, and already somewhere in the second half of the village we stopped at a cafe with speaking name"Stop" (to the right of the road). It is not in our rules to eat on the road in unknown establishments. In this regard, Kostya is categorical - no, no and no. This is a huge risk. But the way is not close, we were terribly hungry. In addition, it was clear that we would arrive in Penza after 22.00. Where will we go at this time (how could we know that you can eat at the Heliopark Residence until 5 am?!). Basically, never say never.
How did you choose the cafe? According to the numbers of Moscow cars. :) Then Muscovites also stopped by our numbers. You see, it's scary for everyone. But if they stand their own, then the institution is normal. In addition, the house looked nice, there was a convenient parking lot in front of it, and there was a delicious smell of barbecue ...

The cafe itself can be called "cafe" conditionally. House; in the house in the usual kitchen, the hostess, who quickly takes orders, warms up food, serves it to visitors, and pays off with her. There are no checks, of course. Everything is simple. The food is ordinary, homemade. We took borscht, noodle soup, Olivier salad, coleslaw, dumplings, cutlets. The food was normal (not so very tasty, but you can eat). Portions are huge. They gained a lot from hunger, they could not eat everything. We are not accustomed to such portions. We were very afraid of the consequences of the food. There were no consequences. So everything was fresh and of high quality.

So, we slipped through Mordovia in half an hour (40 minutes in a cafe do not count). The roads immediately became different. Not like in Ryazan, but not like in Mordovia either. It rapidly began to get dark, and after the stele " Penza region"I put my camera away.

As I said, we arrived in Penza at 10 pm. We drove 662 km. Travel time - 12 hours (including stops). We drove at a pace that was comfortable for us. Yes, we left a little later than the desired time. But we did not plan to start very early. It was clear that this, the first day of the trip, was a road one.
The only thing I regret is that we didn’t stop by Narovchat, didn’t see the local sights (the only Kuprin museum in Russia, the museum " prison castle", Travel Palace, etc.), which did not get to the Trinity-Scan Convent (coordinates: 53.865201, 43.752304) and Scanov Cave Monastery (coordinates: 53.858615, 43.779094). If you leave the M5 highway towards Narovchat, drive 75 km. Not very far, but this program didn't fit in with our itinerary. Even if we had left a couple of hours earlier, it would have been impossible. Now, if you single out a separate day ... But think for yourself. We ticked ourselves off.

To be continued...
